We came here on Sunday afternoon before a wine festival and they were pretty busy but we were able to be sat for the 4 of us without a problem. This was in a shopping center so we didn't have any issues with parking. Everyone was so friendly when we walked in and even with it being busy, service was fairly quick. Cute decor inside. We started off with a couple of sangrias, the red one was really good. We ordered the Spread Sampler, the Double Cooked Octopus, and thr Grilled Sucuk. The spread was delicious and came with warm pita breads, we were also able to order more when we ran out. I definitely recommend getting the Sampler to try the different spreads as all of them were amazing. The octopus was incredibly tender and flavor as was the Sucuk. Lots to like at Smyrna! I highly recommend the 3-course express lunch menu, which includes a starter and dessert. At $24 as of this writing, this is a great value! Decorated in clean blue and white colors, Smyrna has an appealing feel. Smyrna also has a rear patio open during good weather. We were started out with very decent complimentary warm pita bread. For my first (starter) course, I ordered the chicken avgolemono soup. While the soup was packed with tender chicken, I was disappointed that the soup didn't really have much of a tart, lemony flavor. It actually was bland. But what more than made up for the avgolemono soup was the beef Keftdedes I chose for my second course. This dish came with absolutely the best tomato-based sauce I've ever had anywhere anytime! Delicious and fabulous!! The beef keftdedes were plump ground beef patties served over little squares of pita bread and topped with the tomato sauce and also a yogurt sauce. JP ordered the Imam Bayildi, which was good. It came with roasted eggplant, diced tomatoes and diced onions. For our third course (dessert), I ordered the Revani, which was a moist dense semolina cake topped with ice cream and chocolate shavings. Outstanding flavor and texture. Perfect! Smyrna is a very unassuming Mediterranean restaurant located at a shopping center. If you blink you miss it, but you do not want to miss it. I visited on a Sunday evening with some friends who hosted me in Alexandria when my flight out of DCA was postponed. I would recommend bringing a couple of friends here to dine, ordering a lot of items and sharing. We started with a couple of spreads, and the Baba Ghannush was my favorite. I also had a Greek salad, and we had some chicken souvlaki. The entrees are shareable and a large portion, and my friend also got an order of soup for the next day, since we knew we'd be snowed in. The service was wonderful, and the inside of the restaurant itself is gorgeous. One word of advice- do NOT sit near the door on a cold day because that wind kept coming into the building. What a great little spot. The service, ambiance and food were all top notch. It felt like we were in Greece with the experience we had. Our server was kind and patient with us as it's been awhile since we've had Aegean and we had two Littles with us. We sat on their back patio and tried several appetizers. You can't drink outside but their mocktails were yummy. The tzatziki and pita were fresh and flavorful. The falafel was fresh and crusty (in a good way). For entrees we had the cop sis and souvalaki. The food and service were absolutely amazing!! We got the Lamb chops(OMG), a beet spread that I can't remember the name of, the Turkish lentil soup and the Lamb Shank. I almost don't want to post this review because I want to keep this gem to myself! This is my first time writing a review, but my second time going. My first time was last month and we had an amazing time having the all-you-can-eat brunch! The $1 mimosa was delicious and I drank so many Turkish teas with the limitless spreads and dishes. This time we went during dinner time so there wasn't unlimited food, but they had the lamb shank, which is not on the all you can eat. Every bite from the spread sampler to the lamb dishes were fantastic! The lamb shank fell off the bone so easily and was super juicy. The mixed grill is such a worthwhile dish to try too - I really loved the keftedes and the kebab was not even remotely dry! My favorite spreads from the sampler were the atom, which had a great heat to it, and the tzatziki was super refreshing. I can't forget the Aegean coffee martini - one of the top I've had to date! The server was very patient with our party and helped us pick amazing dishes. I can't wait to come back and go through more of the menu!! read more

Read an article about the owner and was super psyched to try this place. We walked in around 7pm on a weekday and the restaurant was half-full. We were greeted with big smiles and offered a couple of tables to choose from. Our waitress was pretty much all business but the server / bus boy was absolutely charming and very attentive. Their one veggie main was eggplant. I'm not into eggplant so ordered two smaller plates, the falafel and spanakopita. My dining partner got the moussaka. After we ordered we decided to add a Tzatziki to try and waved the waitress down to add to the order. We then waited a bit. No tzatziki. The falafel and spanakopita came out so we were eating those when the moussaka was delivered. The waitress checked on us then remembered the tzatziki. She asked if we still wanted it. We passed on it as we had been eating and we were already getting full. She apologized sharing that the kitchen was backed up. Unless the Tzatziki is made to order we can't figure how a busy kitchen would be the reason but ok. We also had the rice pudding. One of us got a Greek coffee and the other Turkish. We weren't really fans of any of it, which shocked us, as rice pudding is usually a winner and I love strong coffee. It was all good. Nothing was amazing, or even delicious. There was something that looked amazing delivered to the next table. The waitress deboned it for the gentleman who ordered it. We looked at other reviews to try and figure out what it was but have had no luck. One review had a pic of lamb chops and it so it's not the lamb chops. My friend is going to return to try that and see if it is the thing that makes the restaurant great. I'm going back to my usual Greek haunt. read more

Saturday night, no reservation, looking super crowded, Smyrna fit the two of us right in, gave us a four-top for two, and made us feel right at home. Everyone seemed friendly and right at home -- guests and servers alike! They have a prix fixe menu that looked to be quite the deal, but we wanted to pick and choose. So ... We started with Saganaki -- cheese flambed tableside and served with pita bread. Yum! We also had Htipiti, a chopped amalgamation of olives, walnuts, red peppers and feta. I had a vision of muhammara in my head, a blended red pepper dip, but this was not that. The crunch of the walnuts and the zing of the olives was quite yummy with the accompanying pita. Dinner was a scallops appetizer (I was getting full from too much pita ). The delicious aroma hit me first, and it was so enticing, I couldn't wait to dig in. They were great! We also tried the chicken keftedes, a chicken patty served in a red sauce over chopped pita, but I think these are an acquired taste. I visited Smyrna again for a weekday dinner, and it was a very filling and pleasant experience. We started off with the cold meze sampler. The baba ghanoush is outstanding followed by Pembe Sultan. The octopus was perfectly cooked and we also ordered the sizzling shrimp with garlic. The saganaki which is served table side with a flambe show was very balanced that all cheese lovers should order! For our mains, we got the kebab skewers and the Bronzino that is cooked in a parchment paper . The kebab was the star of the show. Definitely order that! My favorite drink of the night is the sunset at naxos which has the traditional Greek ouzo in it - so so delicious! They do have outdoor dining at the back of the restaurant and also very cute indoor dining . Definitely feels like you transport to Greece in the middle of Alexandria. We were downtown Alexandria, we thought we'd try them. Turns out they are a20 minute drive from downtown. Started with babaganoush. It had no smokiness, no eggplant taste, and tasted tasted too creamy. We said something and they didn't charge us for it. The turkish salad was excellent. They're quite different than any dolma I've had before - with nuts and cinnamon (maybe cloves?). The rice felt undercooked, but it may have been chopped nuts making the texture. We had the unlimited brunch that has lots of small plate options to choose from. Sipped on pomegranate and apricot mimosas to complement the tasteful dishes, and the cofre and tea was delightful as well. So I've noticed this quaint family style restaurant for a while and finally tried them today with some family members. I will say the food was good and you really feel like you're almost in Greece which is always nice. I had the chicken keftedes and the fried cheese which were both delicious. The hummus was also nice and fresh. However I had to deduct a star due to our service experience. Our waitress seemed uninterested in helping at times and then at the end she counted us as a party of 6 when it was only 4 adults and a 5 month old baby. I suspect, people did call because by the time we got our food, the place was packed. I don't particularly like lamb, it is not my "go to" protein AT ALL! But this one tasted good since my friend made me sample her lamb. It was grilled right, seasoned perfectly enough just to bring the flavor out and it did not have any after taste. The dessert baklava was on the sweet side but with the vanilla ice cream, it did hit the nail on the head. I highly recommend this hidden gem. If you are looking for some adult beverages, they also have a decent beer and wine selection. They have an express lunch special that I took advantage of that I had to pick three courses to complete my meal. I had the Greek salad (1st course), chicken souvlaki (2nd course), and balaclava (3rd course). The food was really good, but it was a smaller lunch version of the regular entree. This is not a fast food place. This is a chill spot that flirts on the verge of being a high end joint. It is a bit pricy, but offers some good food and quality service. Discovered this restaurant on yelp when my friend and I were looking for a weekday happy hour after work. Saw that it was a woman owned restaurant in the website. The outside isn't much but it feels like you are transported to Greece inside. Service was good; though, in the beginning, we had placed an order with who we thought was out waiter but then our actual waiter came and asked for our order again. We explained we had already placed the order. We got the cold mezze ($13) which was pita bread and we got to pick 3 dips (the waiter helped us pick the most popular ones). The sigara boreqi was yummy (wish there were more), and the chicken and beef keftedes were both good. I got the Gin and Na'r and it was a decent drink. Would definitely recommend and come back!
