    Cider and donuts

They opened this year after being closed for a few. They have a really cute wooden train and car for the kids to play on out front. This is a Very old school/no frills cider mill. What really makes them special is the apple cinnamon donuts! The cider is pretty good too!

Sooooo I had never been to an apple orchard before. These just don't exist in NYC or far west! So when my girlfriend insisted we swing by one while in Michigan, I was particularly excited! As soon as you walk into Ashton Orchards, you're senses are treated to a wealth of aromas ranging from apple to cinnamon, honey to jams. The selection is pretty impressive, consisting of pretty much everything that I mentioned in the smells section. Various flavors of honey, different fruit jams, apple cider by the cup/bottle/jug/gallon, and apple cinnamon donuts line the store shelves. We picked up a bottle of honey*, two small bottles of apple cider for immediate consumption**, and a box of apple cinnamon donuts. After paying the bill (which was a bit expensive, but then again most honey and juice products are), we sat down on the benches outside to devour our treats. Not even the abundance of bees (did I mention that all the above products, including honey, are made on site?), could stay me from enjoying the freshness of the cider and near perfect consistency of the donuts! My girlfriend says this isn't even the best orchard in town. The first one we tried didn't open until much later that day, so we defaulted to this one. I can barely imagine how good the other place is, if this place blew my mind!! *FYI: TSA are mean. They take away your honey unless it's checked. If you are flying out, don't buy the honey unless you check your bags!! **Don't worry! We bought a gallon to share with everyone else at home! We're not *that* cruel... : )

This Orchard really knows it's apples and peaches. Dennis Ashton is an expert farmer and the produce is worth every penny!

You can choose from six different Hash varieties, which I mostly eat the Irish Has with corned beef. A very generous portion and it is delicious. The service here is always very quick and very friendly. I never sit in fron of an empty coffee cup and they frequently check if everything is good. The ambience is simple, but comfortable. A great place to have breakfast with the family.

Frustrated, I stepped outside to take a call before coming back in. Eventually my drink order was taken (coffee and water) When she returned I wasn't given a straw, I was ready to order food, but instead she told me she'd "be right back" and took the order of a table seated next to me that had arrived several minutes after I did. After dropping off their ticket, she finally took my order. When my food came out, the toast was wrong (white not rye) and my coffee was already low. By the time I finished eating, my coffee had been empty for quite a while, and I then sat another 15 minutes with my dishes stacked at the edge of the table before she stopped by again just to clear dishes. She finally asked if I wanted more coffee, but at that point I just wanted to leave. Then it took another 5 minutes before I finally got my ticket to checkout. The food was okay, but the service was awful from start to finish.

Their collection of gift items is well curated, organized within the shop, and there's something for every taste. While walking around, I kept thinking how much time they must have spent selecting all the neatest stuff! I was in town celebrating my 25th high school reunion, which unfortunately included visiting the grave of a classmate we lost in 3rd grade. I found the perfect thing here to place on his gravestone. I also saw about a hundred things I loved for myself, but bought one set of simple ceramic bunnies because I was flying back to Arizona that afternoon. The owner was SO kind and tried having it shipped to me but his shipping system wasn't working. He was very nice and apologetic and spent a good amount of time trying to help me. Ultimately, I was passing a post office anyway so I just went that route. He was so patient while I selected the perfect set of bunnies, and they're now on my mantle and so lovely! I gave this shop's business card to a local friend but kept a photo for myself. Despite being in Arizona, I'll shop this store online if I can, and pay shipping for many of my gift needs. I can't wait until the next time I get to visit in person. Their flowers looked fresh and thoughtfully arranged, too. Beautiful place, and I highly recommend going out of your way to pay them a visit.
