This Sweet Business is Located at 1950 E. Avon Rd. near 23 Mile Rd and Dequindre. It is My monthly stop after visiting My Parents at the cemetery on Hamlin Nearby Yates Cider off Dequindre. Yates is celebrating 163 Years of Fresh Made Cider from Apples grown on the property and nearby to be Mashed in their pressing Machine located inside this sweet business. Naturally they close for the winter but open the first week of May till after Halloween. Stop in to see the farm animals for kids, play area and plenty of picnic tables to sit and enjoy a glass of cider and their famous plain or cinnamon sugar donut. ( Photos attached) The past 3 times when I have stopped to shop the donuts have been freshly baked and warm to enjoy before I drive home with a Gallon of cider and 4 other donuts cuz I always eat 2 there with a couple swigs of cider. There's walking trails near the water so pack your hiking or walking tennis shoes for us ladies in flip flops or sandals. Pets are welcome on leash. Inside the business is their clean and stocked store with Homemade Donuts of Cinnamon, Plain & Powdered, Apple Fritters on Friday, Jams, Jellies, Pocket Pies, Cookies and also Sparkling Cider in the Fall. There's an Outdoor Ice Cream Shoppe with Fudge, Caramel Apples, Ice Cream including their famous Donut Sundaes ! They sell hot dogs, roasted corn, and apples when in season. You can't go wrong with a hot donut from Yates Cider Mill. The donut is less sweet and more fluffy than others I have had. Might be the best cider donut I have had. The cider is also pretty good and the wax bag is a nice touch. The mill can be a hot spot for sure, and is best to stop by in the early morning on a weekday. Last time I stopped by they were just harvesting and crushing for fall, which was pretty fun to watch. The building and grounds are also pretty cool to explore and seem to be frozen in time. The huge building you enter today was constructed in 1894 when the business focused primarily on cider production. So many changes over the years...yet many things remain intact. Today These days you'll be able to buy Frankenmuth Fudge, Zak & Mac's chocolates and Posey's hot dogs and snacks, all at Yates. They've also added a small petting farm. The list of Yates products has expanded well beyond just donuts. Today, we bought a 1/2 peck of our favourite apples, the honeycrisp, as well as Aged Bourbon syrup, applesauce, pickles, hard candy for the grandkids and even a cool sweatshirt. Cider prep Somewhere along the line they changed their processing to UV light treating which pretty much obliterates the mother at the bottom of the jug and has a definite effect on the overall taste. So to confirm our suspicions we bought a half gallon (with donuts, of course). We were right. Nature trails? There are three immediate trails ranging from 1 to 1-1/2 mile loops We spent an hour on their Railroad Trail a.k.a. The Yates Trail. A mile long walking loop. With plenty of colour. Nothing like a walk with nature. Parking has always been a challenge. There is an overflow across the road. Mostly it's just a matter of patience. Pro Tip: Try to come on a weekday morning. Weekends in the fall are filled with families. The staff was hurried but cordial, as usual. We've always found long lines here. So that's to be expected. We stopped by Yates on a thursday afternoon (4:30). There was a little traffic at the roundabout but once we got in, there was a ton of parking. I parked at the way front. I met up with my mom and sisters and niece. We found a cute picnic table and we did not see bees at that table. It was in the shade and fairly big. We ordered some cinnamon sugar donuts and cider. The donuts were hot and fresh. They were delicious. The cider was sweet and perfect. My sisters got iced cider and they said it was good too. My kids absolutely loved them. Afterwards we walked on the trail. I suggest sneakers because there is sand and my feet did get dirty. We stopped by the animals after and fed them. The kids had a blast. read more

I have been visiting Yates for DECADES and It's one of my favorite fall destinations to date! I remember coming here as a little girl and swimming in the lakes, and even now as an adult who lives out of state I always try to make this a stop if I'm visiting my family! The fresh donuts are fresh, warm and delicious! Get more than you want, because you WILL want another one. The cider is really good and it's lovely that you can get a hot one, especially for the cooler days. There is a dirt trail about a mile long you can walk through. It's an easy, flat trek, beautiful in the fall, and you can go down to the water from multiple points. There's lots of people fishing in the lake, too. There's plenty of parking on either side of the street, each have their own lot. It's free, too. The staff has been great whenever I visit, and now they have a petting zoo and some small gift shops. A fall staple! I find myself coming here at least once a year as soon as the leaves start to turn. I came on a Tuesday evening right after work (around 6pm) and it was not busy at all. There's definitely been times where I had to wait in line for a bit but service is very quick and friendly and the donuts and other sweet treats are definitely worth the wait. There's plenty of seating down by the water (it gets a little cold so bring a jacket!) and a nice walking path to take a little stroll with your goodies. My daughter wasn't with us, so we surprised her with their pecan pumpkin butter. She did request some apples, but we did not think we would make it through TSA. Went with a friend on a very busy Saturday and the weather was perfect, but despite that, the line to get cider and donuts moved steadily and the workers were quick. I haven't been to many cider mills but this was the best donuts and cider I've had thus far. The donuts were so fresh, crispy on the outside and soft in the inside.
