We went to Dimo's on a weekend morning and this place was basically completely full, with most people munching on delicious looking sandwiches. Our goal was different though - trying donuts from three of the highest recommended donut places in/near Ann Arbor. We decided to get the classic glazed and a cream long john from each place to compare. As we walked to the front counter, we were greeted (well, with a very loose definition of the word) by the owner. The owner is certainly a character. It kind of feels like Dick's Last Resort, a restaurant chain famous for having gruff servers who berate you at every opportunity. Just keep that in mind if you decide to visit Dimo's. Glazed Donut ($1.75) - What can I say, it's a good yeast glazed donut. Not too airy, not too dense, just right in the middle. The glaze is thick and flakes off the most of the three bakeries, giving a bit more of a texture difference than the others donut shops. The dough is lightest in color with the least amount of fry. It's also the smallest. The donut isn't that even in terms of shape and the bottom side kind of juts out and isn't the most aesthetically pleasing. Buttercream Long John ($2.25) - The interior cream is soft and fluffy almost like marshmallow fluff without any of the stickiness. It taste heavily of powdered sugar like a strong cake frosting. I found it to be way too sweet and the texture was the most gritty of the three bakeries. The ganache is placed as kind of a haphazard strip on the top. Again, the size is the smallest of the three. This was by far the my least favorite donut of the six I ate, mostly because I did not like the cream on the interior. If you like a strong cake frosting flavor, you may like this donut. Overall, Dimo's is the most expensive, has the worst service, and the smallest donuts in terms of size. Don't get me wrong - the donuts here are still good (hence my rating), but I just feel like Dimo's is the worst choice out of the three places I visited.

We've heard the legends of this place for many years, so when we found ourselves in Ann Arbor on a rainy Saturday morning with no plans, it was the perfect time to give it a try. It's certainly not going to win any awards for its decor, but that's part of the charm. The owner also gives off serious Seinfeld Soup Nazi vibes, but that's core to the experience. I had a bagel sandwich with egg, cheese ans bacon, and it was delicious! My wife also brought home some of their donuts and sais they were great!

I stopped in for a box of donuts. I usually prefer raised donuts but I liked the cake donuts better here. Apple fritter was good. Service was friendly.

This spot has a great reputation in Ann Arbor but the hours are not common so it's taken me a while to get here and try it. I was in the area unexpectedly early and decided now, if ever, was my time to try it out. Unbeknownst to me at the time, Dimo took my order. I ended up going with the turkey club, French fries, and an iced chocolate donut. Everything was fresh and delicious! It was hard for me to wait til I got home to indulge but it was worth the wait. The portions were a nice size so I made two meals out of the sandwich and fries and the donut was dessert. There are still quite a few items on the menu that I'd like to try so I definitely plan on visiting again.

Came here for lunch and ordered a single glazed donut, #12 - Hot Pastrami Sandwich + a basket of fries. The sandwich was packed with meat and there was so much sauce that it was literally dripping out. So good. The donut was soft and not too sweet, just the way I like it. They have so many items on their menu and also plenty of donuts to choose from. The owner of this place has a really loud, booming voice and scared me a little when he shouted across the store. Not really a fan of this. The restaurant interior was fairly large and had plenty of tables.

Dimo's is an Ann Arbor staple. I MUST stop in whenever I'm back visiting. This family run Deli & donut shop is a gem. Delicious breakfast sandwiches and laid back vibes. My friends and I always get a BACON+EGG+CHEESE on a bagel (I prefer onion bagel). Make sure you know your order before getting to the register. Dimo can be a little intimating with his grumpy/curt remarks, but that's part of the experience. They're all actually really sweet and even through in an extra sprinkled donut! FYI not open on Sundays or Mondays. They also seem to take a few weeks vacation in December and July, so I always check on their FB page when I'm in town those months.

    #12 Pastrami Reuben

I always get a pastrami reuben when I try a new deli. It is my benchmark by which I compare delis across the world. I don't hesitate to say that Dimo's has an absolutely incredible reuben that is easily the best in Ann Arbor. I am very excited to try the rest of their menu as well.

The best donuts I have had in a long time. The service was excellent. Reminds me of old donut shops/delis from the east coast.

My favorites are the Reuben, the Georgia Reuben, and Tarb's Tenacious Tenure. The latkes and knishes are also fantastic. There was a period where the bread was so sharp it felt like my mouth was getting cut up every time I ate there, which honestly became part of the experience. But the past few times I've gone, the bread has been perfect. Zingerman's Deli lives up to the hype.

So while it was chaotic and overwhelming, the workers would hand you a menu, explain the purchasing process and even give you requested samples! Due to trying a sample of their pretzel, I ended buying a bag. An $8 bag!!! It was perfectly crunchy and buttery and very good! I don't even like pretzels and these impressed me. Also got a $9 bag of only 5 palmier cookies. They were good but definitely a splurge. BF bought a small bottle of balsamic vinegar for $23, like wut?! I eyed a jar of salsa for $28 and jam for $16 but damn, everything was way above even farmer's market prices. The sandwiches start at $18 for a small and go to $24 for a large. BF and I got the chicken avocado on challah bread and a new crunchy pickle. Zingerman's does a good job with their pickles! Skins were a little too hard but I love that they're not overly pickled and still crunchy and not too much other seasoning. For $21, the sandwich was not very big and they don't include chips or fries. If I lived closer, heck yes I would come here pretty often to try a sample and buy a very expensive baked good. I appreciated the very friendly and knowledgeable staff. It was giving Trader Joe's employee energy! Parking was a little tricky but not impossible. We came with locals so they knew what was up.
