Went here for happy hour (dollar oysters), and got a dozen. Was shocked to not see cocktail sauce (only given hot sauce and mineurette). Plenty of lemons though. Oysters were just ok. A lot of them had shell in them (which usually isn't a problem, except I've been spoiled by other oyster happy hours where they come with no bits and pieces of shell!). Also the quality of the oysters were a little lower quality. Went for the Spain vs France World Cup game, and the energy did not disappoint. While it's a little bit cramped, especially with a major game going on, it was electric. Definitely come here for watching sports games. Bartender was nice enough. PARTY REVIEW: Hosted a Surprise birthday party at this venue on a warm spring day and it was much a surprise to myself. Our group had so much fun! I had a party of around 15 and we reserved a table by the main bar towards the entrance. This place is packed on a sunny weekend day, so be ready for music, drinking and a surprise visit from a saxophone player. Crowds were flowing which made it difficult to move around and chat comfortably , and music was blasting very loudly making it hard to hear conversations. But I guess its just the spot for a day-drinking shindig. This place got REALLY packed, but the bartenders were really nice and respectful when it came to serving drinks to our group. The doorman Sam was super collaborative and worked with my guests to help plan a surprise entrance for my friend upon their entry. Thanks Sam! Wine down wednesday happy hour iktr. Half off bottles of wine, $6 drafts, $1 oysters. All of them hit the spot. They had a draft called Lil Shucker that was supposedly designed to pair perfectly with oysters and I can't tell you if it really did because I'll just drink any beer but it was a good combo. Came here for a private birthday party that had the whole backroom rented out. It's a nice, spacious room, though obviously with the whole thing booked for the event, there wasn't much seating to go around. We packed it in elbow to elbow, which is part of the fun for a birthday crowd. The one real drawback was service. There weren't enough servers on hand for a room that full, and the bar area itself is small, so even with more staff it probably wouldn't have moved much faster. Drinks were a bit pricey too. That said, the space itself looked good from what I could take in, and overall it was a nice place to celebrate. Another day, another $1 oyster happy hour. There aren't a lot of these deals left in the city so my only advice would be to run to these while you can. Grey Lady has a beautiful warm aesthetic and inviting interior that calls out to patrons loudly with it's big and bold neon sign outside that screams SEAFOOD and OYSTERS. I came in here and plopped myself at the bar. They have amazing happy hour specials like 2 for 1 espresso martinis and aperol spritz as well as $6 draft beers and selection of wine which in my opinion is an absolute steal in this economy. My bartender was super friendly and fun to talk to, we exchanged ideas on many life nuisances and he really made my visit that much more enjoyable. Give my boy Moe a raise now for real!! Jose was a bright and happy spirit who kept the oysters coming. I started with 24 oysters but they are a little on the smaller side, and so I sheepishly ordered 24 more. I think because they're on the smaller side is how I ended up breaking my own oyster personal record at 48..(please don't judge I have a problem).. The droppers for hot sauce and mignonette are a creative twist but I definitely prefer the good old horse radish and cocktail sauce combo. These were refreshing nonetheless. They have a variety of other food on their menu too which I didn't get to but would definitely try next time I come around. They $1 oysters and happy hour wine and beer and a couple of house cocktails. The $1 oysters were Wellpoints so we got a few dozen and beer and wine and had a fun time. I was on a first date here and she let us know that she unfortunately didn't put our order in before oysters for happy hour were sold out. You literally can't move so I don't think I would recommend this to anybody, but I will say we came here for someone's birthday and we had the back room rented out for a few hours, and that was pretty pleasant, but other than that, I would not come here again. Also, the bathrooms are in the basement and it's a very weird bathroom situation very small. Here I am, several days later, alive and well despite the too-good-to-be-true $1 oyster happy hour (until 7pm), one of the few left in the city. Wines are discounted to $9 during happy hour. I got the Riesling because I wanted to get the biggest discount possible. I was a little worried that it would be too sweet for me and it absolutely was... but that one is totally on me. I'm stoked. They have $1 oysters at Happy Hour! That's so rare these days. Almost all the $1 oyster HH I know of in Manhattan are done. They just don't exist anymore but they still have it here??? There's also other food that I will need to come back for next time such as $3 clams, $10 crinkle fries, quarter pounder, fish tacos, maybe fish and chips, I'm getting hungry thinking about it. I was there on a Wednesday at around 6:30pm. Their happy hour ends at 7pm. It wasn't crowded at all, which was nice. The outdoor seatings were packed but the indoor seatings were open as you can see in my pictures of the interior. The service was fast. I was seated immediately as I walked in, given a menu, glass of cold water, and my order was taken promptly afterwards. The ambiance was great. They have high ceilings, large windows making the restaurant very well-lit, and I like the design of the place overall. I think Grey Lady would be the perfect place for first dates (given the not-overdoing ambiance, not messy food, and it's not loud or crowded so you can actually talk and have some privacy, yet it's a nice bar and restaurant). I came here at lunchtime with a friend. It wasn't busy, but it seemed like a cute spot. Plenty of people on dates. Drinks are good. We started with the shrimp and fries. I didn't expect the shrimp to be that big. I'm not a crinkle-cut fry guy, but these were so delicious. The artichoke dip was good. The lobster roll was so amazing. Do I think it was worth $45? No, but I understand lobster isn't cheap, and the business won't pay for itself, so it's worth trying. I also tried the Poboy sandwich, and I should've gotten the cheeseburger.
