One of the better Mother's Day dinners we've had. Reservations for 5 pm and we were seated promptly. A very busy evening for this restaurant and service was very good to start. After our drinks, appetisers, and entrées were delivered, service slowed. Wait for dessert was a bit long. The food and cocktails were delicious! Asiago's reminds us so much of the great restaurants on Grandview Ave in Pittsburgh. The food is amazing and consistently excellent!! This one is hard to rate. Service and the view, definitely five stars. Food, more like 3. So I suppose more like 3.5 or almost 4 if there was a way to do half ratings. The reason I went on the lower end of the rating is that you are basically paying for the view. The prices for the type of food that you get seemed a little high. All of our food was tasty, but my pasta in a red pepper sauce was $25 and a similar dish in a different location would likely have only been about $15-$18. Same thing with the soups. $11 and $13 for soup is a bit much. Overall, though, it is an enjoyable place to eat. We received a friendly greeting when we arrived. Although the restaurant was fairly empty (we were there on a Sunday sort of in between lunch and dinner hours) it still took the hostess a bit to figure out which table they should seat us at. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive, but there were quite a few things she needed to get more information about that it seemed like she should have known. It didn't interfere with our experience, though, as she was always quick with her response. My daughter had the jumbo ravioli and they weren't kidding about the name. There were only three of them, but they are huge. There is a decently large amount of pasta in the pasta dishes. I wish there would have been a little more sauce. While you are waiting for your food, you are served warm focaccia and sea salt bread with an oil for dipping. Honestly, I'd go back just for the bread. I'm not usually a huge bread person, but I probably could have eaten my weight in this one. Apparently they are famous for their donuts so even though we were quite full, we ordered some. The always offer two varieties - plain and a specialty. You can order all the same or half and half. We opted for the half and half. The current special was the fruity pebbles. They had a regular glaze, fruit glaze and crushed fruity pebbles. Delicious, but extremely sweet. One last thing that I enjoyed is that they have both red and white flights. They aren't pre-set like flights usually are. You can tell the server what type of wines you prefer (or even specifically request certain ones) and they decide that way what to put on them. It is nice that they are slightly customizable. Overall, a nice dining experience, especially for a special occasion. But it is very expensive, so plan on spending quite a bit if you come here. read more

The service and atmosphere was amazing! The food on the other hand was not good. I had steak alfredo and lobster bisque soup. The steak was overcooked. I could hardly cut into it. The Alfredo sauce was so thick and lumpy. The noodles were hard and not quite cooked enough. The lobster bisque was the worst of all. The first bowl was a very thick texture and was cold. I sent it back and they sent out a "fresh" bowl that was not as thick but tasted like cheese wiz! I could not eat it. The crab dip was the only thing our entire table enjoyed. No one was happy with the main entrées. The prices are also outrageous!!! I will not be returning. This is a shame because I had high hopes for this place. read more

Visiting Johnstown and found this brilliant restaurant which affords an amazing view of the entire city. Our server Kelly was welcoming and helpful when making choices and was impeccable when providing service and timing. The food was superb, lasagna and the veal parmigiana were delicious. we also had dessert, the layered chocolate cake. Pricing was fair for the food and service. My wife and I went to asiagos last Friday evening. We made our reservation early in the week and requested a window table as it was to be a much needed date night. We were told they can't guarantee window tables, which I understand due to time it takes per table. We arrived at the restaurant to find 2 larger groups, 1 group along the window. the hostess took us to be seated and put us next to the large group with 4 young kids. there were 8 empty tables at the window and I asked to be seated there instead. We were told no, they couldn't do that. We had to take the table next to the party. Food came out fine, but warm and cold spots, bland, and frankly not to good. Seemed like taken from freezer to microwave to table. All the while 7-8 empty tables at the window. I assume he was the manager sitting above us deeply involved in his computer, not too concerned about the restaurant. Needless to say date night was not the experience we expected. To say asiagos is fine dining would be a joke. Service and food quality left a lot to be desired. read more

We made reservations for 9 adults and three children for Easter. When we arrived, they took over 30 minutes to seat us as they could not find our reservation even though they charged a $210.00 reservation fee that we had to show them. After they got a table ready for us, it took 20 minutes for a server to come to us and take a drink order. Then another 20 minutes to get our drinks. Note: They didn't appear to be that busy. Anyway, they had spiced oil on the table for bread but no bread. It took 40 minutes from when we got seated to when we got bread, after asking for it. Overall, we were there over two hours, the food was horrible, it cost over $450.00, the service was not even close to the tip they added to the bill. I would never recommend this place. Amazing view and the food was outstanding. I ordered the Rhode Island Calamari for an appetizer and it was the best I have ever had. I loved the peppers inside. I was on the fence in ordering one of the steaks on the specials and had the Caribbean Jerk Pasta. OMG very happy with that choice. Very good and I do recommend. I asked Samantha M. To make an espresso martini my way and it came out perfect. I also had the donuts for dessert and they are a must. I also shared a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon with my friend so he owed me that half. Our son got burnt on a faulty heater (to no fault of his own) during our visit and while management was great during, I was surprised that nobody called me the next day to check on him. I visited Johnstown for something different to explore in the Pgh area, and decided to stop here for lunch. The view was awesome! Our hostess seated us along the glass wall overlooking the town below. It would have been perfect if the incline was running, but due to COVID I guess it's closed. There's also a neat little museum upstairs from the restaurant with details about local industry & the Flood. We started off with complimentary foccacia bread with dipping oil. (Our waitress also got us a refill of this, which was nice!) I really enjoyed this nice appetizer and I followed that with the house salad, which was a nice portion with lots of toppings and fresh shaved cheese. It was delicious! the homemade Italian was also tasty, albeit quite sour, even for me who loooveess sour things. I added a dash of the remaining dipping oil on top of my salad and it helped it out a bit. My dining companion got the French onion soup, which he enjoyed very much. My baked lasagna was nice and tall, with lots of tomato sauce on top. The sauce was a bit acidic- so I could have actually done without so much added sauce. Also, the bottom noodle was a bit tough and a teeny bit burnt, but the home style flavor was something I've never had in a restaurant before. It was absolutely so comforting and delicious. He loved his Alfredo, and most enjoyed the Parmesan breading on the chicken. His eyes were huge as it was full of flavor, and he wanted more and more! All in all, the fact that I don't dine at these types of places often, made this a nice little treat. We got to enjoy a beautiful mountainous nature view with a cool view of a small town below. Stopped here on my way back from some business in the area. Didn't have reservations, but came in around 8:00pm on a Saturday night. What's very nice about this place is the location: on the incline hill that overlooks the city. It is inside the visitors center and museum at the top of the incline. The decor is very classy- big glass windows and bi-level type seating. Not really a bad seat in the house, even the bar area has views of the city. Tables are very intimate, close quarters- so wear cologne or at least bathe. Heavy silverware and fabric napkins, so quality is at a higher level. We had to wait about 20 minutes despite numerous seats being open- not sure, watched some Big Bang Theory and Olympics coverage before being sat at a table on the upper level. They have a decent wine list from what I can tell - Rieslings from Washington which is always a big thumbs up, and Merlots and Pinots from California. Big for the grapes that go into those. Not a wine guy, but knowledge is power. Ordered an appetizer (bubble bread) which is a ciabatta type roll cut into two buns and topped with bleu cheese tomatoes, lemon and cheddar. This was surprising very good. Upon sight it looked boring but the flavor was outstanding. Also ordered an orzo arugula salad which didn't have dressing but the warm orzo was mixed with goat cheese and then tossed with salad. Very impressed. Not my usual pick but I liked it a lot. For an entree I went with the Mediterranean pasta with chicken. Usually any time I am in the building with Italian I have to try the chicken parmesan- but decided to shoot from the hip and not be boring for once. This dish was very very very good. Penne tossed in an olive oil, Parmesan cheese blend with spinach and tomatoes along with chicken. Portion was just right- very tasty. Also the swordfish and Brussels sprouts were good. More of a slaw with bacon in regards to the latter. Went with the peanut butter pie donuts for dessert (10) - small homemade fried doughnuts (smaller size with the doughnut hole on top and drizzled with peanut butter and chocolate sauce and powered sugar. ................if eating these is wrong I'm fine with never being right. Wow. One of the best meals I have had. Period. read more

(Never been to Seattle, but the way you sit inside restaurant does simulates it.) They serve crostini and olive oil dipping sauce with every meal. That's one of my favorite things. They serve the bread cold. We ordered the "bubble bread" for an appetizer. Honestly, it was difficult to choose just one app. to share. But bubble bread was the only true thing either of us has never heard of. That item was really good. Cheesy and warm! The taste was what got me. There was a touch of lemon that made the blue cheese stand out in a different way. Plenty to share between two hungry people. We shared a orzo arugula salad. Honestly, I wish I could recreate this. It was so good!! It was tossed with goat cheese. Ordered the special that night, which was Swordfish, a top a bed of crab Mac and cheese with a side of Brussels. (All my favorite things) it really rang my bell, if you know what I mean. The fish was exactly right! The crab Mac - just enough and so good! The side was like a brussel sprout slaw with bacon. Different but still good. Now, for the literal icing on the cake. The best thing I've ever eaten - They have homemade doughnuts, for what they're apparently known. I'm telling you right now, the peanut butter pie doughnut was unreal. You must order this. Hopefully when you go, they have these as the doughnut of the week. Celebrated my birthday dinner at one of my fav restaurants ! I usually love this place but it was a little disappointing this visit. First, I miss the old bread service the new bread just seemed so basic and the dipping oil just did not taste good with the bread. I love spicy foods and I love the dipping oil at other places so I am not sure what was off with this. It kind of burned in the back of your throat when you ate it, and not in a good way. Then I heard other waitresses ask if the tables were celebrating anything but we were never asked, not only that but we often went with empty cups, and our water was never refilled after the initial time. Our food, I just wish there was a little bit more icing on the donuts, and my husbands salad was a little basic however I was overall relatively satisfied by the food just not as spectacular as other meals as I've had in the past at this location. read more

We were coming to Johnstown from Baltimore, Maryland for a visit. Prior to our arrival, we sent a note to this restaurant on Sept.10 and called the same day to confirm a reservation for dinner for 6 at 6:30 PM on September 29. When we talked to Cheryl at the restaurant, we requested a table by the window. Cheryl explained that the tables at the windows were for tables for 4, but that she would seat us on the second tier where they could accommodate 6 people. I called again on Sept. 28 to confirm our reservation. On Sept. 29 we finished our tours early, so I called just after 4:00 PM and asked if we could move up the reservation to 5:30 and was told that was fine. When we arrived at 5:30 PM, the hostess desk acted like they did not know who we were. I asked them to find our reservation and went on to the ladies room. When I came out, they showed us to a table in the far back corner of the restaurant that they were making larger to accommodate our party of 6. When I said that I had made this reservation some time ago and requested a table by the window and told the hostess my conversation about being seated on the second tier, she informed me that those table all had reservations. (Hey, so did we!!) Not wishing to argue with the hostess, we sat down at the back table. Marlyce, our server, could not have been nicer. She was clearly working under some difficult circumstances. One of the reasons we chose this restaurant was that 3 of us wanted the Gorgonzola cheese ravioli. More trouble came when Marlyce told us that they did not have them - they were out. My husband and I decided to leave the restaurant at that time. Our other friends stayed. They were thrilled with the service and attention given by Marlyce, but felt sorry for her at the same time. They said they watched a table of 10 leave because they were told they were out of beef and crab cakes. What kind of a restaurant does not have what is printed on their menu? As far as cool locations go, this is probably THE COOLEST locale i have ever seen. Beautiful giant windows looking out over the city of Johnstown, which is actually very green, leafy and a bit gritty (in a good way) all at the same time. They have a great bar, there was live music last night in the bar, and it sounded fantastic. Our server was Jane, and she was a very good sport (obnoxious brother with us), and a VERY good server. Drinks came out promptly, and were made perfectly by a bartender who knows his craft...our food was delicious, you sometimes worry you are trading breathtaking views for mediocre food, but that is NOT the case at Asiagos. From the salads, to the pasta, everything was top notch. Westmont (where our party all hail from but now live elsewhere) is LUCKY to have this charming establishment and i hope its there for a long long time so we an enjoy a great meal whenever we come home to visit. read more

A group of us were in for the AAABA baseball tournament and decided to take the inclined plane up to Asiago's. We were so happy with the service and food we received. The hostess was so sweet and she was able to go along with our humor. Our waiter was on point. He was excellent. The food did not disappoint. We had the fried zucchini and the calamari for appetizers and we cleaned our plates. For dinner, we tried the mushroom ravioli, eggplant parm, spaghetti and meatballs, a scallop special with apricot jam, red pepper pasta with steak tips and the delmonico steak special with 4 cheese risotto. We all ate until we were stuffed and brought some back with us. They surprised us with freshly made WARM donuts. We had the regular and their special with bananas and they were out of this world. First timers at Asiago's ! The restaurant sits on the hill overlooking downtown JOHNSTOWN. Very nice views of the city. If you call ahead for a reservation you can request a window seat (if it's available). We were able to get a window seat and the view was lovely. You can see the point stadium baseball field, the river, downtown and the beautiful mountains. There is street parking directly outside the restaurant. The restaurant sits directly beside the incline plane (a great tourist attraction). There is also a nice scenic overlook area near there as well. Great for photos. We were greeted and seated quickly and then met Nick our waiter. Very friendly and personable. He told us about the specials and we decided to try two of the specials. The ribeye and the roasted chicken. The ribeye was marinated in a chimichurri sauce, with some very delicious creamed corn and a potato. I wish I could figure out what was in the creamed corn because it was really great! It had a kick to it, so I believe maybe jalapeños and onions and roasted corn??? Whatever it was, it was delicious. The ribeye was good, not as tender as I would like but still good. My sister in law chose the roasted chicken - her comment was that it was just "ok", and that she would not order it again the next time. She's regretting now that she didn't order one of the yummy sounding italian dishes - so many to pick from. Oh, we had the crab dip appetizer with toasted bread. We both loved that! At the beginning Nick brought some home made bread, that was wonderful. We just didn't care much for the flavored oil for dipping. Too stuffed for dessert - sorry to say. Our bill was about $80 (that's without any drinks) - therefore this location will stay on our "special occasion" list of restaurants. I would definitely try this place again, I would love for my sister to try it as well - it was a special night and unfortunately her meal wasn't as yummy as my ribeye. I should have known any Itailian restuant open on Sunday is gonna suck, I wasn't disappointed. Descending the dirty stairs to the dining room should have been enough, but I reserved judgment until I had some food. The caprese sucked big time! Cheap mozarella SWIMMING in a canoe of cheap Balsamico does not exacly whet my appetite. I can't bear to go on. If you're looking for good Italian, don't go here, even if it's a Sunday. read more

If a recipe as basic as spaghetti has eggs in it (which is NOT an expected ingredient in a product that's only supposed to contain semolina, water, and salt), there needs to be a warning on the menu. It's not even conceivable that I should think to ask about it before ordering, because one doesn't expect the most expensive restaurant in the county to be serving up dollar-store egg noodles. And if recipes THAT basic aren't allergy-safe, I probably can't trust anything but the wine. read more

I was looking forward to going to one of my Johnstown favorite restaurants. We asked to be seated at the bar on the high chairs so we could look at the city. After much confusion from the host, we eventually were seated in the separate bar area where you can't really see over the back of the bench and one person there had her back to the view. We had already waited a while so we settled. Other than that mess up, service was great. The lobster bisque was good, but I have had better there. Two of the three meals were wonderful. Every time I go, I order something different. This time it was a grilled chicken Caesar. What a mistake! It was served on a romaine wedge! That means mostly thick ribs! I spent my time trying to find the edible parts of the lettuce. The grilled chicken breast was 1/8-1/4 inch thick and hard and dry as one can make a piece of chicken. To your credit, the dressing saved the salad. I did take the chicken home and turned it into a chicken salad. I don't like to make a scene, but I should have sent it back. The donuts were wonderful as usual. And our waiter was attentive. I'll be back, but no more chicken Caesars. read more
