I hosted my bridal shower here and had a great experience! Mike was easy to coordinate with. The servers were very nice. The food was okay, but a tiny bit pricey for what we got. The guys had a separate food menu and really loved it and the portion sizes. Otherwise, the venue is so stunning and everyone really enjoyed themselves. We had food for ~10 men downstairs in the cigar lounge (with lots of leftovers) and food for ~40 ladies upstairs. The total cost with a cash bar was a little bit over $2,000. This place isn't open for daily service, only events , weddings , corporate events etc. Their wine dinners are once a month and you can check their website to see dates and menu. Food quality did not match up with pricing. Great surroundings and helpful servers, but I expected so much more. I think this place shines best when it is hosting a reception or a large gathering. In fact, on the night we were there, they were hosting a small rehearsal dinner. It was set up inside an actual dining car that rests inside a larger dining room. I think most of the staff's attention was focused on the dining car guests, because service on our end was a little slow, and disheveled at the beginning. Not sure if we needed reservations, but it appears they might prefer this over walk ins. The train station is packed with all kinds of train paraphernalia and local history on display, so I always found it to be a fun, and unique place to dine, but this recent visit was a disappointment for the money that was spent. Food was Ok ... Ambiance is hard to beat its photographer's dream ... Service was great EXCEPT for Mike the coordinator he was the rudest man I have ever met in my life. He treated his staff like something he scraped off of his shoe. He was rude to several wedding guests. Most of all he treated myself and my assistant like garbage. He shoved us while we were trying to do our jobs of photographing the wedding and refused to get out of the way of important photos that we were trying to take. As a result there is NOT ONE photo of the bridal party coming through the tunnel because he is in EVERY one. I asked him numerous times to move and he just stared at me with a cold hateful stare. I have the pictures to prove it. Other guests witnessed his disgusting display of authority. He is a bully to the help. What a shame that I have to write this review but a wedding is a one time photo opp and I hope this helps other brides not make the same mistake. read more

What a fabulous restaurant with superb decor of an old train station. The place still rumbles occasionally from some sort of rail service. It was dark out so I couldn't really see what was going by. The food was absolutely fantastic as was the service. We had salmon and a chicken marsala dish. The salads were phenomenal that accompanied the dinners. To finish we had tiramisu and a chocolate gnash type pie. The coffee was fantastic even without cream as they use milk. I look forward to going back here in the future. read more

This place is past it's prime. I had wanted to reserve a table at Denunzios, but they were booked over a week in advance. Sadly, I made the reservation for Disalvo's, and was sorely disappointed. Starting with the seating, rather than be placed in a spacious room, we were instead herded into the back, and the tables were unnaturally tight. The waiter came quickly but was far too distracted by the family of what I assumed were regulars. He was far too busy fawning over them than to be bothered with our table. Overall, the only good food was to be found at the carving station. Otherwise, everything else was largely unappetizing. Really? He had frozen veggies on the steam line! No seasoning, no problem! Next, we had the equally undesirable red potatoes coated in oil and lacking in taste. This was followed by bow ties and a neutral cream sauce. In the next pan was a pathetic lasagna of sorts...I was afraid to touch it! After that we had some sort of small bird which was allegedly roasted, but seemed to be only the back and wing portions, coated in oil, cold, and bland. The seafood Neuberg looked deceptively tempting but was also bland and lukewarm. All of this was topped off with stale break, Wedding soup devoid of meatballs, and store-bought cafeteria grade desserts! For one hundred dollars (three people and three cups of chilled coffee), I'd say this was a complete bust. Don't patronize this place, folks, you're paying for the name and the "privilege" of eating here and not for the food or the service! read more

My wife and I found this place in the enjoy Pittsburgh coupon book. Not being from the area, we ended up near Latrobe having gone to the Twin Lakes festival down the road and were looking for a place for Sunday night dinner. The venue itself is fascinating. It is an old train station from the early 1900s for the Pennsylvania rail road, and it still has trains passing by above it. The inside has changed a bit but still has some recognizable features including a box car in the restaurant with tables inside. For our meal, my wife and I decided to order the gnocchi and the chicken saltimbocca and split half and half. Each dish came with a fresh salad which was dressed nicely and had pecans, golden raisins, and crumbled blue cheese. For the main course, the gnocchi was slightly favored over the chicken. Freshly made pasta is hard to beat! The sauce it was in was very flavorful as well. The chicken was a fairly large portion and was cooked nicely. It had a good flavorful sauce as well and came with a side of pasta. The venue is cool and historic. The food here is decent. portion sizes will fill you up. Not much to dislike about this place and the prices are reasonable for what you get in a meal. Would recommend checking this place out (is there even another restaurant in Latrobe??? My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at the bar at Disalvo's a few days ago. I hadn't been there in over a dozen years and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was downright delighted with the service we received, and the food was phenomenal. We chose to sit at the bar for a pre-dinner beer, and we were so impressed with the bartender (Jeff, I believe?) that we decided to eat our meal at the bar as well. The on-tap selections were fantastic, and surprisingly reasonably priced. Among several other great selections, we chose Brooklyn Brown Ale and Sierra Nevada Pale. Did I mention we were there during Happy Hour pricing? Their happy hour includes beer and appetizers, so we decided to sample four appetizers. The bartender provided fantastic guidance through the menu and each appetizer was more delicious than the last. The standout was by far the mussels...probably the best I've ever eaten, thanks to the amazing broth they are cooked in and served with. I don't think we left a drop of broth, sopping it all up with fresh Italian bread. The artichokes Romano were delightful, and the fried provolone wheel was delicious. We felt very welcome there, and enjoyed leisurely strolling around the large facility. We will certainly be back, likely quite soon. read more

I've been for both lunch and dinner. When it's busy and when it isn't. The best I can say is. . .it's OK. . .but just ok. I've ordered seafood and received it terribly overcooked. I ordered a dish with risotto and it was actually crunchy, yep. . .crunchy. Wedding soup tasted as if it came from a can. Salad contained wilted greens. When I sent them back the waitress acted as if i had committed a felony and became short with me. It does have a nice atmosphere as it is in the old Latrobe train station and the dining room has some toy trains running around. I went to a private event at Disalvo's earlier this month, and we had a great time! The restaurant itself is interesting and worth a visit for the architecture. It's inside an old train station, full of beautiful brick, and there's a train car inside the restaurant itself. There's an interesting tunnel, and bars both upstairs and downstairs. Food quality always suffers a bit in the buffet banquet setting, but overall I was very impressed with what we had at Disalvo's. Our dinner included salad, bowtie pasta with pesto, eggplant parmesan, roast chicken, carved roast beef, and chocolate mousse cake. Everything was very good-- I'd definitely go back to try the regular menu. The wine and beer that came with our buffet wasn't fantastic, but wasn't bad, and the service was excellent. It's hard to judge a place when you're not there for a regular meal, but I'd based on this experience, I'd happily make a repeat visit. read more

Actually 4 1/2 stars! I was visiting friends in Greensburg, and they insisted that we dine here. So glad we did. The building is an old train station. If you're lucky, a train will run by while you're dining. (Not counting the toy train that circles the dining room. :-) ) So, the place itself would get five stars for atmosphere. The waitstaff is friendly and efficient. And quite entertaining to boot. We had several good laughs with our waitress. Five stars for the waitstaff. We started with the tomato brushetta for an appetizer. Very good. I had an Asian tuna salad (main course salad) which was quite good too. I finished the whole thing and used some of the delicious bread to mop up the dressing. My dining companions had mahi mahi, pork chop, and eggplant. (I sampled the red sauce on the eggplant, and it was some of the best I've tasted -- very tomato-y.) They all got dinner salads with the meal and agreed that they were the best salads. Accompanying veggies and rice were tasty as well. And we all had big portions. (I was the only one to finish mine -- the others got boxes to go.) Five stars for the food. We were all very pleased with our food. The friends who live in Greensburg frequent this place often, and I can see why. I will definitely go back the next time I visit them. The only downside was the dessert. We ordered creme brulee and it was just okay. Not bad, mind you, but not as good as the rest of the meal. Three stars for the creme brulee. (Maybe we should have tried some other desserts, too.) Prices are just a tad on the high side, but worth it for the quality and quantity. When you go, check out the bottom floor -- it's a cigar lounge/bar/poolroom. (I don't smoke, drink, or play pool, but it was an interesting space to see.) Recommended. read more

This place is really overprice. I had the gnocchi and it was really starchy and cheesy. My husband and father in law had the shrimp. They loved the shrimp but they hated the risotto. It was really cheesy. My mother in law had the ravioli and she was the only one who loved her entire dish . We spent 123 dollars without tip and we didn't have drinks or desert . Me and my betrothed Jonathan D. headed to DiSalvo's this past Sunday to visit with Mike and discuss the possibility of using DiSalvo's as a wedding reception venue next year. We arrived very early and decided to engage in a senior citizen's 4pm dinner :-) We sat in the bar and watched the Steelers game amongst the train paraphernalia. It was cold in the bar, but my heart was warmed by the atmosphere, the service and the food. Let me tell you something about this food. WOW. I wasn't expecting to be blown away by the food. I was into the trains. But as I dined on a delectable House Salad including fresh spring mix, flavorful walnuts and bleu cheese and a warm loaf of homemade bread; followed by an entrée of Pistachio-encrusted Mahi Mahi on a bed of grilled brussel sprouts, butternut squash and a surprisingly yet perfect raspberry glaze of some sort, I fell head over heels in love with DiSalvo's. For the two of us, our bill came in at $50 - a reasonable sum for such an extraordinary meal. Whether or not DiSalvo's is our reception destination, I'll be back again. I enjoyed a great New Years Eve dinner with my Fiancé and family and everything was great. Wonderful wine, amazing rack of lamb, surf and turf was perfect, with a great filet and rack of lamb. After dinner, we headed downstairs to Joey D's Cigar bar for great cigars, after dinner drinks, champagne, and live music. My husband and I ate at DiSalvo's for the first time tonight. Their main menu is fairly expensive, at least for what we're used to. I'm sure compared to other restaurants of this class, it's pretty normal. We sat in the dining area, but were able to order from the bar menu which was nice. They have a good selection of beer; we both got Smithwick's and it was fairly priced. For dinner we each ordered a half house salad which is perfect just the way it is described on the menu and it's very fresh. My husband got a burger cooked to perfection and I had the lobster ravioli. The sauce was very delicious, but a little heavy. I'm glad I ordered the smaller portion. Our server was very friendly and we were served in a very timely manner. We'll definitely be going back. PS. There is a cigar bar off the bar that you can smell if you're in the bar. We could not smell it in the dining area. I rather enjoy the smell of cigars, but it might not be for everyone. read more

I had several, sometimes awkward, last-minute & changing requests and he just--BOOM--done, made them happen; place was better than envisioned at arrival. He also let us do whatever we wanted, including bringing our own alcohol, for which he had his staff beautifully set up a table with a punch bowl, glasses, decor. I lost balloons in their super high ceilings, and he wasn't even mad ;) His staff happily & eagerly brought all of the bride's [heavy] gifts to her car--and it was freezing! I am in love. My wife and I had been here a couple of years ago, and were not particularly impressed. But I received a gift card and decided to give it another try. It has improved quite a bit! Our server, Jen (I believe), was very friendly and attentive. The food was very good, and I have to mention that the house salad was amazing. There were many unusual and delicious ingredients. The dining room has character and charm. Some might say it needs to be updated, and the lighting could be just a little brighter, but we found the old-time Italian restaurant atmosphere enjoyable. And the train motif, and the sound of the occasional Amtrak train rumbling through the nearby station, make for a memorable experience. As we left, we spoke to the chef to offer our praise of our meals. read more

THANKSGIVING DAY BUFFET REVIEW - Party of 4 - 4pm reservation. The set price was $29/adult. We were promptly seated upon arrival in a room w train track that surrounded room. Cool looking if it were dusted and it worked - unfortunately, it was neither. It did however draw your eye up to the walls with peeling green wallpaper. The menu claimed to have a 'super salad station' - it had a bowl of spring mix greens, beets/eggs, macaroni salad and bean salad. They had 2 soups - tho I have never seen wedding soup without meatballs? The 'bread bar' was a table with rolls. The 'vast array of desserts' was a table that had a bowl of something chocolate and looked like a bowl of wet, runny pudding. The server that was asked said she didn't know what it was. There was also small plastic plates with maybe 3 -4 types of pie - and a plate that was 3/4 empty ... that held cookies. I tried 2 - both stale. Hot food - the penne pasta was VERY DRY - the eggplant parm looked less than stellar - but tasted fine. The stuffing was literally a pan of cubed toasted bread. There was NOTHING AT ALL added to the stuffing. There was one gentleman w pirate hat slicing turkey breast - it was fine. The ham and 'top round of beef' butts that were being sliced looked like small ends - and WELL DONE roast beef. Skipped on both. The mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, steamed broccoli/cauliflower/carrot mixture were all fine. No food on the buffet was actually hot/warm. We needed the gravy to warm it up So - would we return for a holiday buffet - no - I think we would pass. Def not worth the price of admission read more

After my fiance and I got engaged in December 2017, we only visited one potential reception venue--DiSalvo's! Upon stepping inside and meeting with Mike, the Wedding Coordinator, we were certain we had found "the place!" Not only is the setting beautiful, requiring only minimal outside decorations, but the food is incredible! We were shocked to discover how affordable the venue was! Mike was extremely accommodating and helpful--he alone is worth the cost of the venue! When we came in a few times for meals prior to the wedding, he was kind and attentive to our families, which made them so happy! He always went out of his way to come say hello, and no matter how many emails I sent with questions he answered quickly and patiently. We came to set up for the reception the Wednesday evening before, and Mike was there to assist. He made the process so smooth, and his vision for how things should be set up was incredible, too! What could have been a stressful night ended up being a lot of fun! On the day of the wedding, Mike again came through. Despite a few last minute menu change requests/cancelled guests, things were handled perfectly. Mike was patient with all guests, and helped ease tensions when we were late coming from photos off-site for the start of the reception. We believe we were provided a few extra food items in the cocktail hour, too, as a result, which is also amazing! Further, because we had so many out of town guests Mike asked his staff to set up the cookie table for us, which is not normally included, and restocked it throughout the reception. Staff also helped with cleanup, and packed everything up for us to easily pick up the next day. I am thrilled that we chose DiSalvo's--Mike truly made our day special, and I will never forget it. I will recommend them to everyone I know looking for a wedding venue, and look forward to many meals in the restaurant in the future! read more

We had dinner here while out in PA visiting family. All of the different dinners that we ordered were great! Would definitely go back when we have the chance. I am a little perplexed as to how I feel about my experience at this restaurant. This was to be a special dinner out as it was our wedding anniversary. I loved the look of the building and had heard that the food was good, but pricey. Well, we walked in the through the bar side where one customer was sitting. No bartender or hostess in sight. So we walked toward the dining room. There were about 15 tables; four had people. A server walked up to us and asked if we had reservations. We said no and she looked annoyed and said "Well, it's best to have reservations." So, my husband and I looked at each other and thought "our bad, we'll go somewhere else and try to come here another time." But then, the server says, "Well, I guess I can seat you." So, we said thank you and thought she was doing us this big favor as there was going to be a crowd. There wasn't. Two more customers arrived (with or without reservations) and that was it for the rest of our time there. Thank goodness, we had a different server who was much friendlier or I doubt if we would have stayed. He took our drink order, gave us time to look over the menu and suggested different items. Now as for the dinner, my husband chose Veal Marsala with wedding soup and I decided on the Chicken Parmesan and wedding soup, with fried zucchini strips as an appetizer. The portions were generous and we enjoyed the meal. Our server was there for water refills and anything we may have needed. Desert was offered, but we declined. The evening was fine, but the initial encounter with the first server had put us off. She could have been more friendly especially since the restaurant wasn't as busy as she led us to believe. The cost of the meal was high. The dining room has peeling wallpaper and needs repaired. There are framed awards to the restaurant on the wall. I liked the model trains displayed. We did walk around and saw a room set up for a reception the next day. It did look lovely. So in the end, 2 stars. I am not sure if we will return. Arrived for our Reservation and where we entered was leaking water! The weather was very rainy for several days so I will excuse that. The staff was very friendly and we were treated upon arrival and immediately seated at our table. The food was fantastic and the drinks were made very well. Great job to the bartender! The ambiance was very good except I wish the lights would have been a little brighter. It was hard to read the menu. I would give 5 stars if it had not been for the repulsive smoke smell in the dining room come up from the lower level cigar bar. It made me physically ill and I had to push that to the back of my mind. If they would vent better or remove this all together it would have been a 5 Star experience! read more

A friend and I went to the Thanksgiving buffet. To say that the service was substandard does not even describe it. We saw our waiter once during the entire buffet. He brought us a glass of wine that we ordered and that was our first and last time. I asked the manager if he could possibly get him, when we were finished eating, so that we could get our check. That was no help either. When I asked the second time the waiter finally came. Apologized but said it was not his fault. He did not get a tip needless to say. A very nice first time server kept us in water and clean plates. I did tip her. the food did not add to the experience. Luke warm, empty trays, and desserts that appeared to be sitting out all night did not add to the day. Not sure if I would ever go to a buffet there again. read more

My sister got married at this location last weekend. It was an amazing experience over all. Not only was the wait staff attentive and professionally dressed they were very friendly and personable. Mike and the rest of the staff paid careful attention to detail and set up the space exactly how my sister wanted it. The food was delicious and served professionally. We took beautiful pictures outside which will be lifelong keepsakes. Upon going back the next morning to pick up the center pieces, cookies, etc. we found everything neatly packed up and waiting for us at an enterence that was easy for us to load up. We attended DiSalvos for Sunday brunch, which was approximately $20 each, standard. There was a salad bar option (mixed greens w cucumber and tomato) 2 dressing choices and a few other things like coleslaw, chicken salad, ROCK hard rolls, and maybe tuna salad or something like that. Chicken noodle and wedding soup (no meatballs!??) French toast, bacon and sausage, roasted red potato, stuffed cabbage, roasted chicken, steamed veggies, pasta marinara, and Cajun fish. Then there's an omlet bar, Belgium waffles and carved pork tenderloin. Juices were included in the price (tomato, orange, orange pineapple) then a dessert table. Most the food was ok but I couldn't help to compare the food selection and quality to DeNunzios Sunday brunch. So I felt like DiSalvos was a let down In that regard, however the ambiance of the overall train station is really cool, weddings would be so unique. The regular dining room needs a desperate update. Peeling wallpaper and water marks on ceiling tiles. Then to charge $3.50 for coffee and $3.50 for a Pepsi. read more

We had my daughter's wedding here May 20, 2017 and I can not say enough wonderful things about Mike, the coordinator for the event, his staff, and the food. Everything was absolutely perfect. Mike and his staff made sure that every detail was taken care of and the day could not have gone more smoothly. The setting is so unique and all of our guests commented on what a great venue, so unique, and so friendly. The food was amazing also, not a thing that was not enjoyed by all!! Our guests had the choice of shrimp stuffed salmon, prime rib, or chicken, all of which were delicious and quite generous portions. The house salad is wonderful and the wedding soup the best I've had! I highly recommend Disalvo's for weddings and I know that our family will return to enjoy the restaurant as often as we can! read more

Found this place on a late Sunday afternoon after a day of Kayaking on nearby Keystone Lake. Our waitress, Laurie, was engaging and witty, and very responsive. The manager 'Mike' came to our table to chat. We asked about the history of the place and the owner came out to give us the tour. This place has an atmosphere unlike any other place we've seen. Clean, large, and somewhat imposing with all type of train and model trains throughout, Almost as if the Spaghetti Warehouse merged with the Grand Concourse (in Pittsburgh) in a positive manner. Menu had many selections and the portion sizes were fine. The artichokes romano appetizer was amazing and the soups were tasty with the right amount. salt. (Many soups are way too salty). Mike (our wedding coordinator) listened to every detail I ever told him and made the planning process a lot easier than doing it alone. My family and I went to DiSalvo's Station for their Mother's Day buffet. This was our first, and last, trip to the restaurant. We had reservations for 7, plus a baby in a carrier. We drove over an hour to the restaurant and were running a little behind, so we called ahead to say that we were going to be 15 minutes late. We were assured that this was not a problem and they would be ready for us when we arrive. Upon arrival, we find out that our table is not ready. The restaurant was practically empty, and we did have reservations, so we were very surprised when we had to wait several minutes before we were able to sit down. We were lead to a back room and seated at two 4-tops that had been pushed together, with 3 people on each side, one person at the head of the table, and our baby was forced to sit off on a chair at the next table. There was a 1-foot gap between us and this next table, but we were assured that no one would be seated at it. The table heights were uneven, so those that were in the middle had a challenge dealing with their plates. The back room where we were seated seemed to be the only place where anyone was seated. On top of that, everyone was seated on the same side of the room at adjacent tables. The tables were not spaced apart very well, so you were in danger of bumping into your neighbors at another table if you weren't careful. This is frustrating when you are eating at a buffet and everyone is constantly getting up and down. I had difficulty getting to my seat several times. Also, due to the spacing, we had both other diners, and wait staff, wedging themselves between that 1-foot gap between our table and the next table in order to get through, rather than walking around our table. Every time someone walked through that gap, it placed them between us and our baby, and made us very angry. Our own waitress should have been the only person going partially through that gap in order to help clear plates and refill drinks, and she never went completely through it to avoid our baby. During our meal, the music suddenly changed from a Italian songs being played at a low volume, to country music played at a loud volume. It was incredibly distracting and annoying, and made it difficult to talk to everyone. While the music in the back room was eventually turned down slightly, it was very loud at the buffet area. It seemed as though the music was being played more for the enjoyment of the wait staff setting up the main dining area for later in the evening than it was for the diners in the back of the restaurant. The food on the buffet was mediocre at best. The seafood newberg was probably the best thing on the buffet. The beef burgundy was overdone, the baked chicken was nothing more than baked chicken wings and not even breast or thigh meat, and the rest of the food was nothing special at all. There were only about 6 hot items to choose from, plus 2 soups and a carving station. None of this is what one would expect from an Italian restaurant. The desserts included pudding, jello, and what generally looked like store-bought cake. None of the food ever came close to the $26.99 per person price tag that we paid for it, and no drinks of any kind were included in the meal, so we each added an additional $3.00 for soda, coffee and tea. All in all, this trip was extremely disappointing. From the food, to the seating, to the service (minus our waitress; she was very good), to the price, nothing was even remotely satisfying. Stopped by recently while my wife was at work because I just wanted a nice cigar. This was the only place anywhere near Latrobe. What a cool place. Basement has an awesome speak easy feel to it. Great bar selection, and even better cigar section. Got to meet the owner and he was very knowledge about cigars. Great place. Make sure you check it out. read more

I agree with Michael's evaluation. The place is really neat...an old train station in downtown Latrobe. But the food....oh, the food. Not much to write home about. I don't think they make a lot of their items like I would expect a local italian restaurant to do. We made a reservation for our traditional neighborhood Christmas Dinner (8 couples, 1 single) here this year on a Saturday night. We were in a nice private room and had 2 waitresses to serve us. When we arrived (6 PM reservation) the dining room and rail car were empty . The drink orders were messed up; martini instead of a Manhattan, some drinks came 15 minutes after the others had been served. The salads were served and nearly finished before bread was served. Three dinners were served and then a gap of at least 10-minutes before the remaining dinners were served. Some dinners were sent back to be cooked properly. The remaining meals were so so to good. One person (vegetarian) ordered a salad with French dressing and received about a tablespoon of dressing with the explanation that it was all that was available. The waitresses disappeared after the entree, and had to be tracked down to get drink refills and the checks. At least 3 checks were wrong and had to be corrected. When we left (approximately 8 PM) the dining room was still empty and there were people seated at a couple of tables in the dining car. There were maybe 4 cars in the lot after we left. In closing; this is the only Italian restaurant I've ever been in with a wine list that doesn't include Chianti. read more
