Lukewarm..... that is the theme of the food and drinks. If it is to be cold, it was lukewarm. If it was to be hot, it was lukewarm. The cold soft drinks were lukewarm. The dining staff said they were going to relay the concern on the food (including the teriyaki chicken, sweet and sour chicken, fried dumplings and select sushi) being in the danger zone for food borne pathogens but I am hesitant that this was taken seriously and/or relayed to the kitchen. The prices were raised because it was Father's Day without any additional goodies. The plus was the dining room staff was attentive on bussing tables and refills. Not bad for a Chinese buffet, they have all your standard buffet food, which I enjoyed. Nice selection of sushi, which was decent, but nothing spectacular. They offer hibachi here too which I normally like but I wouldn't get it here again, it was just plain bland. As for dessert, not the best, though I did enjoy the green tea ice cream. On our trip from Maine to Virginia last weekend we stopped for gas in Meriden and noticed Hibachi Asian Buffet tucked away in the corner of a shopping center, so we went in for lunch. The price was very reasonable and my husband enjoyed his freshly-cooked food at the hibachi. I opted for the buffet and became disappointed. Half the buffet was filled with American foods and the selection of Asian foods was minimal for the size of entire buffet. The food I had selected was rubbery and difficult to chew. It tasted like it had been sitting out for a long while. I went up for a second plate of food when I saw that they were putting some freshly cooked chicken dishes out. However, I found my selections to be undercooked to the point where I had to spit it out. Our server was the rudest and most inattentive person in the entire establishment, that we could see. He ignored us the entire time: No refills on our drinks, no removing of our empty dishes, and no extra napkins even when we asked another server and he told ours to get us some more napkins (they only allow you 1 napkin with no extras at the buffet). Disappointed and disgusted, we refused to leave a tip, paid our check at the counter, and felt it best to write our review here. On our next long-distance trip if we happen to stop in Meriden, CT again, we will certainly avoid Hibachi Asian Buffet in the Townline Square Center by a large distance. read more

In my opinion, this is one of the best Asian buffets around. The buffet food is mostly very good and sushi is great. The hibachi is awesome. You can bring as little or as much as you want to the grill and within minutes, you're good to go. The sushi and hibachi alone are worth the price. The "regular" food is a bonus. This is our favorite buffet in the area, and we find ourselves here 6-10 times a year. We've been taking our daughter as long as we could prop her up in a high chair, as she loves the food and a few servers in particular who always treat us well. The food is better quality than other buffets in the area, the staff is always friendly enough, and the place is huge - no matter how many other people are eating, you never feel cramped for space. After a pretty respectable first couple of years this restaurant has gone progressively down hill. It was a reputable challenger to the local favorite Pacific Buffet this place was once so good it drove Pacific to lower their price. As time has gone on we are learning with each visit Pacific has nothing to worry about. The food quality is bottoming out... its becoming dirtier...the staff has become even less friendly than they were in the beginning (that they never were) and today the stench in the place was so intense from a rotting bucket of water that was housing used silverware it ruined our meal. We discussed the problem with the owner/manager and he told us..next time....(waiiiit for it...you think were gonna get comped a meal here right? ummm Nah!) "Sit some place else!" One of the better Asian buffets in ct. The hibachi station was pretty damn good but the cook was pushy about the tip bucket. Apparently the servers are hell bent on tips too. She took my phone off the top of the check and my credit card and walked away with them to ring up the bill. I purposely placed my phone there so I could tell her I had a digital coupon. So instead of waiting for her to re-ring the bill, I took the $4 out of her tip. Yep, I got the evil eye walking out, but if you're really hurting on that $4, maybe you should raise the price. read more

They charged us for our 2 year old. Yes, they charged $1.99 but the principle is worth much more than that. There is no signage depicting the age for paying for a child nor is there signage regarding a child price. Not to mention, how much can a 2 year old eat? Not as much as the food they throw out that people waste. When I asked the waitress about the charge she went to her boss. She returned and said "My boss say he eat, he pay." When I asked where their signage was in regards to the rules for paying for children the "boss" looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language. What a terrible way to run a business. read more

Hit or miss, depending on the days. People that come here seem to be very rude, and the inner decor is that of a warehouse instead of a restaurant. Very cold feel like they want you to leave. $11 per person and you eat 10 different kinds of every food. Sushi, Hibachi, Chicken Wings American Style, a Huge Beef Chuck you cut yourself. Only downside is when it's slow, the food dwindles, and the rice gets very hard quickly. I was a bit nervous to try this place due to the plaza location and plain exterior, so I figured I should write a review and calm the nerves of other Yelpers. The restaurant is large and spacious (though a bit outdated), with a clean buffet full of variety. Some of the dishes were bland, like the lo-mein noodles and teriyaki chicken, but for the most part the food was hot and flavorful. They also had a hibachi station but I did not try it. The food was okay but what was more concerning was the temperature of what was being served on the buffet. The hot items were lukewarm and it scared me to eat it. We were a party of four and each person had the same complaint, the food was not hot enough. One person in our party wanted to do the hibachi however he commented that the meat under the lamps did not look fresh, and that the steak was brown around the edges. The only buffet we will go to. We travel from two towns over. Always fresh and consistently served. They don't put huge portions in trays so there is always a fresh batch. Very clean and always tastes good. We take all of our family here. Lost a star for getting rid of the pizza (I know it's Chinese! But my one child looks forward to it). Also look around for coupons. There is a lot that this establishment gets right and plenty of things it could do better, but the point is that its weaknesses really are not that overpowering. If I were to cover their food in one fell swoop I would say their 'chinese' food is very good for a buffet, their 'by service hibatchi' is good, their Japanese is below average, and their American food is below average too. On the Chinese side, I found their beef, chicken, and shrimp dishes to be good. Their egg rolls were magnificent (shrimp flavored rather than just plain cabbage). The noodles were alright, the hot and sour soup above average. The hibatchi service had a lot of range for protein choices and a good bar of veggies to add on. But it felt less Hiabtchi and more like a "Mongolian Grill" or 'Stir-Fry" station, plus there was a waiting line. But if you're worried about making sure you get fresh-cooked food, this station fixes those worries. As for the Japanese, the sushi rolls were not labeled, they do not have much variety (no hand-rolled sushi, no sashimi, didn't see any featuring roe). It looks mostly like Sushi attempted by someone who is not a real sushi chef. As for American fare, they offer some kid-based creature comforts. The pizza lacks sauce but is very cheesy, they even have onion rings and french fries. The Mac and cheese is very bland. Their salad bar has only italian or ranch dressing and only an iceberg mix (though you can pluck other toppings from the grill line. The desert area has ice cream, jello, puddings, some basic cakes and pastries. If I were looking for good sushi or a hibachi experience, I'd go elsewhere. This place will not cut it on those levels. That said, it's actually 'Chinese Food' is very good, plentifully stocked and it's grill station is well run. But it can stand to improve its American food quality a tad and pay more attention (several of their items were mislabeled) to their labeling, and improve the sushi station. Any buffet has its weaknesses by putting out mass-produced food and the lack of atmosphere. No buffet can compete, period, with a good cooked to order meal in a specialized restaurant, so at best this place could be 4 stars. It could be a little better, so I would say it's about 3 stars for me. I liked the food, I will go back, I would recommend it for Chinese food, not for Sushi or true Hibachi though. As for their food, they are more about quantity than quality, offering a huge variety of options from standard chinese buffet fare, to several sushi options, a hibachi grill, and a number of other foods. Unfortunately, none of it is particularly good. If you just want to strap a feed bag onto your face and chow down, then this is the place for you. There is enough variety that you are bound to find something that you want to stuff down your mouth-hole. The food isn't anything to rave about BUT I found most dishes had a taste and wasn't the common bland experience of so many. 1/14/15 Very disappointed with this past visit to the Asian Buffet. It was not the food nor the waiter who tended to our table. We have always received good service. It was when my husband went to pay the 42 dollar and change. I had just been to the bank prior to arrival and received five twenty dollar bills. I gave my husband three of the five. That was 60 dollars and my husband was given 7 dollars and change. When he inquired about the rest off the money owed, the female at the registered insisted she was given two twenties and a ten. She would not even check the register. My husband being the nice guy that he is, did not want to make a seen. He even went back and left a tip in-spite of my disapproval. He said it was not the waiters fault. However that type of dishonesty just did not sit right in my spirit. It was not the money just the reluctance to admit to a mistake. We all make mistakes we are all human I don't fault her for that. It was just the reluctance to own up to it. I called back and let my grievance be known in a nice way and let the gentleman know that answered the phone that I would be writing a review. I told him at the end of the day when he checks his register he will be ten dollars over. He accused my husband of not counting his change and that most people do. I exclaimed that he did, and returned to the registered and told her so, her response was previous stated. He said at the end of the shift he would know and implied he would refund my money yet he did not ask my name nor a phone number where I could be reached. The money is not what bothered me so. I'm sort of on the fence here at 3.5 stars and 4 stars. Usually I find these places a bit of a disappointment even more-so now that I can't eat quite as much food. But I have to say that the food here was really good. The mushrooms in some sort of brown sauce were really the star for me along with the honey chicken which was still crisp even though it was smothered in some sort of gooey delish sauce. This place is not terrible, but not very good either. I stopped in at lunch today to give it a try as it has a similar look and name to a buffet in North Haven. When you walk in, it's very nice inside, the restaurant is clean, and the wait staff looks very presentable. It was at this point that it started to go downhill. The selection was OK, but nothing special. They don't really make good use of the real estate in the food area. I have been to many Asian buffets, and while this one is probably one of the nicer restaurants aesthetically, the food is not good. The lo mein lacked flavor (I don't know how this could be, due to the fact that you're supposed to douse the noodles with oyster and soy sauce), and several dishes I tried were lukewarm. I couldn't bring myself to eat much due to the taste of the food, and fear of getting sick. The food here might be good enough for the average person, but there are much better Asian themed buffets out there. They were very rude and arrogant about the way they handled our situation. We found a large amount of egg shells in our food and promptly brought it to their attention. So we asked about it and told them we think we should have one meal complimentary because of the issue. The female owner then proceeded to say she saw us take and eat a lot of food which we didn't. We took 2 plates each with not a lot on them and one of those plates was the egg shell plate which was removed with food on it due to not eating it after. One star but thats only because its required for the review...Never in my entire life have I gone to dinner and asked for a refund. The buffet LOOKS pleasing but it is quite deceiving. The food that should be hot was not even warm. The food that should be cold wasn't cold. The sushi ( I was told was fresh) was anything but. (It was actually HARD!) The beef on the Hibachi grill was too tough to chew. I was embarrassed to ask for a refund but even more upset that I was put in a position to have to do so. I spoke with the manager initially, pointed out my barely eaten plate, and explained that I was unhappy with my meal and why.She walked away and I thought she would come back but she never did. I saw her go up to the register to continue business as usual and so we ( 2 of us) went to the register to take care of the bill. She initially charged me full price and argued that " we don't take of from the bill", then she took off 20% , I asked her to at least take off for my meal since all I had was a few bites, she didn't want to and tried to make a deal back and forth, as if we were at some car dealership negotiating a price for a car!!! I informed her I wasn't paying for a meal I couldn't eat but would pay for my daughters' and she finally agreed and charged me for one meal and drinks. Very good buffet at a very good price. The honey chicken is my favorite, but I like almost everything. It's got a very good assortment of food. Most important to me is that they are very child-friendly. We have a toddler and the staff couldn't be nicer. We go about once a month and it's pretty consistent. read more

Really great buffet, IF you go at the right time (preferably whenever it's busy like a sat. night) and the food is coming out fresh it's really good, especially for 10.99! Boyfriend and I have been here twice, and both times we were extremely satisfied. It's roomy, exceptionally clean, the service was good, and the food was delicious.
