I was craving Chinese food and ordered this on a whim one day during my lunch break at work. I got the Pork Fried Rice and Chicken Lo Mein. I ordered on GrubHub and when I arrived the food was hot and fresh, bagged to go. The man at the register was very kind and greeted me with a smile. The Pork Fried Rice was just okay - I wish it had some more seasoning as it had a pretty bland flavor overall. However, the Chicken Lo Mein was very tasty and filling. It was packed with vegetables and the serving size was pretty generous. I had enough for leftovers later. read more

I really love this place. Ive been coming here since I worked in Meriden 30 years ago and its been consistently good. My favorite is the spicey dumplings (#7 - and picture attached). They are just amazing. I go in and get just an order of that and steamed rice and Im good to go. It really warms you up on a cold day. Fairly friendly staff, but I will say the inside can be intimidating, its really outdated and worn out but believe me, the food is about as good as it gets, you wont be disappointed. read more

Kings Garden is my go-to Chinese food restaurant. I travel out of town to get take out. The Egg Foo Young is the absolute best! I've never had a bad meal there. "Fast & Consistent" I work on Research Parkway which is around the corner from King's Garden. I never feel the need to order ahead because the service is always fast and the food is consistently prepared. I can't say it's the best chinese food I've ever had, but it is consistently good. I go there pretty much once a week and I'm always happy with the food. This week I had the house wonton soup and a house special fried rice. I enjoyed both of them. read more

my husband and I ordered the general tso Chicken dinner. It was so spicy could not eat. They Never have any sugar free beverages other than water. I mentioned this the last time still none they don't care about their customers. Place has gone downhill. When we visit the wife's family, King's Garden is our go-to Chinese place. The food tastes much more fresh than most Chinese take-out places and we're never disappointed with our stand-bys: General Tso's, which is breaded and spiced just right and the Shrimp and Broccoli, which tastes very clean and light. Throw in lightly seasoned and fresh tasting fried rice, a couple solid egg rolls and crab rangoon with a good amount of filling--I hate when it's all dough!--and you've got yourself a solid meal. One of my favorite places. I've been going since I was a kid so I am a bit partial. But I also know how the system works. I order general tsaos tofu since I am a vegetarian (not on menu but an easy substitution). I always make sure to order white rice and a spring role if I am doing the combo, too. More of a place where you order and pick up since seating is limited and a bit plain. There is free tea for dining in though. Quick service. Not bad, not great, just normal old Chinese food. For the area, it's actually pretty good, though. Our favorite spot in Wallingford actually delivers to us out in this area, but we were out and about and wanted something quicker than delivery. King's Garden turned out to be a fine choice, though it's still not our number one, all things considered. Word of caution: they have two signs telling you that there is a $10 limit for credit cards, otherwise they will tack on an unreasonable surcharge. I generally try to avoid going to places like this unless I know I'll be comfortably over the ten dollar limit. read more

My suggestion is to do research before eating here. My fried dumplings were pretty decent, their golden fingers(chicken fingers) dripping in oil, and lastly the boneless spare ribs. If I wanted slimy, chopped up pork chops I would have cooked them myself. That's what these are. It's my own fault for ordering outside of our normal place. Oh & p.s. Best Chinese in Meriden. It's a shame they don't deliver because if they did I would eat here waaay too often. The General Tso's chicken is sweet and not very spicy, which is wonderful for me but might disappoint others. I've tried the sweet snd sour chicken, beef and broccoli, beef and mushrooms, shrimp lo mein and the wonton soup. They have all been spot on. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean, though there is not much for decor. It speaks a lot for the quality of the food that the restaurant is hidden off the street in a plaza that has lost its anchor store and sees very little traffic and yet they are always busy. read more

The very best General Tso chicken in the area and beyond. The chicken is pleasantly lean for thighs, and the edges of the delightful chunks are crispy with a sauce that has just the right amount of " heat". The combination platter comes with perfectly cooked pork fried rice featuring generous pieces of pork. I was going to eat half and save the rest for lunch the next day. Whatever combination of ingredients makes up their Cold Noodles in Sesame Sauce I have never found anywhere else. Decided to swing by Kings Garden for a change of pace and ordered some dinner. An order of steamed dumplings and the Mongolian Beef entree did it for me. The dumplings were excellent -- good consistency and flavor, decent sauce, and overall were much better than expected. The Mongolian Beef was alright, but nothing spectacular -- just beef and scallions with a few slices of bamboo shoots and some baby corn in a basic brown sauce. The taste was ok, and the portion on the small side. If King's Garden delivered I'd probably order from them semi-regularly, but unfortunately they do not. They really aren't good enough for me to go out of my way to pick up the food they offer. read more

Used to eat at King's Garden a lot in years past and the food was excellent. Then changed jobs and haven't been there much in the past 5-6 years. I stopped yesterday for one of my favorites, Chicken Chow Mein I was met by someone new, so I was suspicious...new workers or owners? Ordered my food to go and waited about 10 minutes. Went home, opened the bag and started preparing.... Wait, this doesn't look right....where is the sauce? It's about half way down the container and it's more like water. Onions? a few.... and less pcs of celery and SMALL pcs of chicken. Lots of Bok Choy or Chinese Cabbage. And no flavor. Adding soy sauce didn't help so I threw it all away. I hate being wasteful! Looks like it has changed hands and recipes....and not for the better. If such a basic item at a Chinese restaurant is tasteless, I can't imagine what others may be like. This is one of the best Chinese places in Meriden. So its a bit of a circus for take out. Yes...no delivery at all but you won't mind. My coworker called and asked for chicken and broccoli lunch specials and they told her they don't have lunch specials. But when I picked up the menu there are clearly marked lunch specials. So lying essentially to try to get $4 more out of us cost you the 5th star. And there is no language barrier they speak wonderful English for which I give them credit for. Pick up was fairly quick but there appears to be no rhyme or reason to how they know who's order is who's. The food is perfect! Not over done with MSG and no after taste. You get a ton and this is why the food is worth a ride there and why they're successful. They offer eat in but there is no AC so you'll sweat your butt off in the summer and its not exactly spotless there. Draw your own conclusion there. We also had trouble finding an online menu when placing a phone order but they have what you like out of any Chinese place. The food is good...place an order. read more
