When I lived in Rochester, there weren't a whole lot of Asian supermarkets around. I ended up importing stuff from Toronto. However, around the block was this market. I don't know whether it was called Asian Pacific Market at the time. I remember bringing my mom to check the place out when she was visiting. It was run by a couple. I ended up getting a case of ramen noodles because I have always loved eating them growing up. While checking out my old neighbourhood, I swung by to check this market out again. The Chinese restaurant that I never frequented is still in this plaza, across from this store. I believe that this market took over another store and tore down a wall. It's definitely larger than I remember it to be. I parked and walked inside. I loved seeing all ingredients to create your own banh mi. The snacks looked good, from shrimp flavour chips, to roasted seaweed. I was happy. The man cashing folks out asked me if I needed any help. I was browsing and reminiscing. I was good. I ended up getting a box of Choco Pie. Each pie is individually wrapped. Chocolate and banana work nicely together. I ended up bringing half of them back to Canada because my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I found Korean ramen and decided to give it a try. I got the mild flavour, which had a bit of a kick. I loved how chewy the noodles were. Full marks for them. You can only pay with a credit card if your total is at least $10. Thankfully, mine was. My credit card transaction worked nicely. The man was personable and helpful. We wished each other a great night as I happily headed to my car with my purchases. As a Korean visiting from out of state, this place just deserves 5 stars. It's no HMART but it had everything I need and will ever need. The store owner gave my child an ice cream out of just sheer generosity and I really appreciated it and has earned my loyalty. They definitely have the essentials from all the Asian countries and the prices are very low, I was surprised. Visit this place first before you try other Asian marts. read more

Organized and cozy. We mainly come here for injera and to pick up some Asian ingredients and snacks (curry blocks, mochi, fish ice cream, etc.) They carry injera of different teff ratios (they get shipments on certain days of the week, would call ahead), himbasha, berbere and shiro, and many different varieties of rice in large bags. SUBJECT: JUST OKAY Unfortunately, I've had the privilege of coming from a very diverse area that had a lot of asian grocery stores. There were HMarts (if you don't know what this is, you're missing out) and other smaller mom-and-pop shops. This spot was "eh." I didn't really need anything. I was new to town, and wanted to check the place out. The staff was nice. I wasn't impressed with the eggplant in the fridge with fuzz growing on it though... They carried the basics, which could actually be found at HY-VEE. There were a few things, if I really missed or craved, I would most likely pop in for, but sadly I don't see myself shopping here too often. read more

This is a great store! I shop there often because of the great selection, low prices and very friendly service. They also have some unusual and hard to find items like pig tails or live blue crab. This is true small town mom & pop shop hospitality that I thought was long lost. I randomly stumbled on this place and was shocked to find fresh Vietnamese spring rolls. In Rochester?!? Really?! More amazing? It actually had real SE Asian herbs and not the American standard herbs overfilled with lettuce like I got used to in Chicago. I knew i was in for an authentic experience. Kdep, the owner, is the most generous shopkeeper I've come across. I frequently see him helping his non Asian customers who are seeking various ingredients, from time to time he will invite his customers to try something without forcing them to buy it first. On fridays there are fresh Thai, Cambodian and Vietnamese prepared dishes ranging from pad Thai (vegetarian), various soups, roasted duck or pork, spring rolls, and no-skimping banh mi sandwiches. Along with a variety of SE Asian desserts including Filipino (my favoritres are the cassava cake and flan) the fried bananas in summer are tasty (if they're not piping hot I toast them briefly at home). First off: my experience wasn't Victor R's experience at all (well, I did spot the Aldi brand canned mushroom soup and canned corn soup, which was admittedly weird.) The store was clean and had no smell, either of spoiled food or cleaning chemicals (either of which are pretty common at small groceries.) Everything was more or less clean. There were a couple peppers with mold spots on trays in the produce case, and some battered-looking cactus fruit, but I honestly see more off-looking produce at any Trader Joe's or Hy-vee than I did here. Selection is good but a little hard to browse--I've noticed a lot of pan-Asian type groceries have similar items in more than one place in the store (for example, frozen meats/seafood appear in more than one case, there's more than one shelf with canned vegetables, etc) which isn't too much of a problem in a small store but can get annoying. The owner is friendly and answered a lot of questions another customer had about appropriate herbs to put in a certain dish so she could recreate food she had on a trip to SE Asia. When I asked about finding mock duck/wheat gluten, he showed me what he had and told me about some other vegetarian foods they had in stock. So whether or by you know what everything is called or are familiar with Asian foods, the staff know their inventory well and are happy to give some advice. Prices are average. read more

I love this store! Since I moved from San Diego this is my home store I was amaze at the different types of ingredients and foods they carry. They have to go fresh made spring rolls, very delicious baguette sandwich, fried fish upon request and roast duck every Friday. Best oriental market in town!!! read more

Authentic place, great variety. If you want to do any authentic asian or middle eastern cooking, this is a great little secret. The spices here are so cheap!! You can find uncommon parts of animals to cook with, squid, kim chi supplies, and things I have no idea how to cook with! I was shocked to see that they sell durians! They also have cookware, fish, herbs, and dry goods. Interesting variety. There isn't much fresh produce left when you go later in the day though. read more

Extremely filthy place with flies, rotting meat, and contamination everywhere. The raw meat was in packages that were dripping juice on already cooked products below it. Lots of selection but very poor quality. I also noticed that they were re-selling Aldi brand canned mushrooms and soups. If the sanitation department got wind of this place they'd burn it to the ground. It's an FDA Inspector's nightmare! read more

This is a very good market! They often have fresh Khmer food in their deli section and have some of the best herbs and S.E. Asian produce in Rochester. A good variety, but not well kept. There were bags of rotting squash sitting with the produce, most of which was going bad. As well, there was an open bag a raw fish in the middle of the produce, making everything smell off. There just wasn't an sense of freshness. And I was concerned about sanitation. As well, some of the meat smelled like it was going bad. Again, there was a good variety of stuff, but nothing that I couldn't find at another market. read more

Great place! When my brother in-law (who is a chef in San Francisco, as well as a restaurant consultant for restaurants world wide) visits, he insists we take a trip to this store to buy different ingredients for what ever he decides to whip up for dinner. As he walks through the store, he keeps saying that he cannot believe that a store in Rochester would have such a great variety of items. My wife and I have been going to this store for years. Not only is the owner a really nice guy, he is very helpful with putting together ingredients for recipe ideas you might have. Great inventory, great service, friendly people! P.S., if you like coconut, try the hard coconut candy that they sell. I think it's a blue bag, and I believe it's called ChunGuang Coconut Candy. Man that stuff is good! read more

They have good stuff. I've purchased everything from fresh veggies to fish, to my snacks. I was looking for some chips that I usually purchase there and he didn't have them at the time. He showed me a new item (or at least new to me) and it was awesome. It's now my new favorite thing to get, and his shop is the only place I have found it in town. He is out of my chips quite a bit though, so I starred accordingly. You have to get there right after he gets his shipments for the best chance at getting what you want. We shopped here a number of times with no problems, but last time we went we didn't get all of the bags of groceries we purchased. We realized this when we got home. When we called the store the person on the phone was rather rude about it. Will never shop here again. read more
