Visiting family from out of state and I will say probably one of the best orange chicken we have had! The white breast meat inside is huge and juicy, the coating they use is so delicious and cooked to perfection the sauce will make your nose run a bit but it is so flavorful! The guys enjoyed the Mongolian beef was spicey with the crunchy onions and peppers. Lo Mein was excellent with lots of shrimp. And the other dishes with all the vegetables were fresh and crunchy with a great sauce. The soft dumplings were okay, the filling needed more seasoning. The rangoons needed to be cooked just a bit longer. Service was excellent and fast. We took our food out for dining at home so I can't say what it was to dine inside. I can't believe I haven't written a review on this place yet. We love this place it the only place we go to for sit down Asian cuisine. My wife loves the orange chicken. I love everything I have eaten on the menu. It is a mom and pop shop but I have always had great service and the place has a nice environment. You should really check it out. read more

For having a 4.2 star rating on YELP the food was not that good. Very bland and generic. If you order a spicy menu item, apparently you have to tell them you want it spicy. Awful sushi. The Chinese food options may be decent, I cannot attest to that. But I had three orders of nigiri (salmon, tuna, and eel) along with a California roll, and was mortified by what I was served. The tuna looked like it had been soaked in water all day, then left on the counter overnight to completely dry out before being badly sliced and served to me. The eel was given to me exactly as shown in the picture. Not sure how the chef or kitchen help thought letting food go out the kitchen looking like this was an option. Despite the look, I did eat the eel and it was ok. I refused to eat the tuna based on the look and smell. Ate one piece of the salmon nigiri, taste was bad/off so I threw out the 2nd piece. Stunned that the California roll was the best part of the meal. $23 for a CA roll and 2 eel nigiri. The rest was inedible. Never again. read more

This restaurant is not good. The best part of our meal were the dumplings. But we also got the coconut battered shrimp, which were too battered and too fried. And we got three rolls: spicy tuna, which tasted a bit like ketchup; the kamikaze, which was mediocre; and the Godzilla, which was overcooked (see above regarding excessive frying). Making matters worse, service was lacking. Despite being the only ones in the restaurant at noon -- a bad omen, which should've tipped us off -- the food took a while to come out. And our server barely checked on us, and gave us no serving utensils. For what we paid, we should've gotten a lot more. We'll never come back. read more

It's very cold in there. It's 34 out and it can't be 60 in there. The dumplings were good. The egg roll was mediocre. The Beef and Broccoli was awful... the beef was like eating mush. Absolutely phenomenal!! We came here after a long day of hiking and exploring in southern Illinois for a two-day getaway. Although we had to wait a bit at he curb for their drop off service, they were very friendly and got all our food to us. The Mu Shu Pork is very good and the General Tso's is good as well, though less so. Everything is very greasy, but that is to be expected from delivery Chinese. We stopped in Marion, IL for dinner on our way to KY (though there may not be any other reason to stop in Marion, IL other than for the Chinese food at Asian Star ;-) ) We chose Asian Star based upon Yelp reviews. A very enjoyable experience. Very good food served in an attractive manner, the wait staff was very attentive and the prices were reasonable. Our group had Beef and Broccoli, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sesame Chicken and the Seafood Combination. After our meal our waitress surprised us with a plate of some of the sweetest watermelon slices we've ever tasted. Simple but nice decor, very clean and comfortable.
