Highly allergic to wasp, hornet or bee stings now. Will die without epi pen intervention! Was blowing around a center Island under som large rhodies when appearantly j disturbed sn underground nest of wasp or yellow jackets.! I dropped the blower and ran to house they followed me inside. 9 stings that I could count. Call 911 and got help. Used my epi pen too. Ended up in ER. Then I called, "Ask the BUG man". Erick is the one who was able to come out. I was stung on Sat. They were not open on weekends... but he came out on Monday and walked slowly into the exact area I had been attacted! I call him the ee whisperer... because they don't seem to fear him! If only they knew... right? Anyways he found the hole And shot a good stream of very leathal extra strong chemical intplo it. Also about a foot around that hole too. I just turned off watering In that area. He said usually 3 days, but a week to be sure. I am so lucky that it was me that was stung and not my little dog or the new stray cat. Highly highly recommend them. Also 2 years ago when I was attacked by bald faced hornets, their venom is more like a rattlesnake. Very very strong! When I called the Bug man that time, the young man on the phone has a degree in entiminology? Aka bugs. I told hom I got a sudden wave of nausea and felt the room spinning. When I woke up, I couldn't move. Paralyzed from neck down. My phone was still on the counter and my throat was swellInh shut. I was in anaphyletic shock! He stayed on the phone with me and just kept repeating... I have dialed 911 and medics are on their way. Over and over again. My veins had collapsed and there was no epipen on the medics truck??? But they had injectable benadryl. After several hours in ER, the DR. Told me I had less then 5 more mins to live. He said if that Bug man had not responded with a call tp 911... I would be dead! So once again. I cannot recommend this company enough. I believe they charge $125 to come and remove the nests. 2 years ago I had 5 nest!!! Then all of a sudden a couple months ago a noise appeared in my attic and it turned out to be rats. Jared from ATB came over and installed some traps outside my house and in three days the attic was silent. David , the owner , is very knowledgeable and everything he told me that would happen with our issue, did . They managed our carpenter ant problem beautifully and honestly . I say honestly because our prior pest guy ( one who funny enough has five stars) , I feel, took advantage of our lack of knowledge and desperation surrounding bugs and rodents . We were charged double for everything . When I finally realized something was wrong , the prior owners of my house recommended " ask the big man". Dave as well as his team have been honest and up front about costs which have been reasonable . I accidentally over paid and received a credit immediately ( I wouldn't have known if they didn't bring it up ). We really like our technician , Jose, as well. He always calls to remind us , is punctual and kind to our dogs ( the dogs can be unruly). We have had no issues with ants, spiders and beetles since we have had them servicing our home. From my prior pest control experience, I realized that the pest control industry can be a bit shady based on my experience with other companies . The pest problem was not resolved. if you have rats all they do is put bait boxes out and then check it after two weeks. If you have rodents already living in your house this does nothing. I gave one last ditch effort to find someone who worked and owned their own business, had been doing it longer than 20 years & all in our state of Oregon. (I needed "older & wiser" not "newer or bigger") FOR TODAY IM STILL IN MY APARTMENT, STILL SOMEWHAT SANE AND NO LONGER FEEL ALONE! All because of "ASK THE BUGMAN" Within hours and a few pictures from the hundreds I had, Dave (the owner) called and had pinpointed CARPET BEETLES and suggested I pick up a stack of glue traps from their office (no charge) to be sure I didnt have a couple pest problems going on at the same time. (Both Dave & his son Dylan offered to tell me how I could treat the problem myself, owing them nothing for their knowledge and help) I opted to have them do the work, I was exhausted and they were more than reasonably priced and put a guarantee on their work. Came out multiple times to 'set traps' traps only caught one mouse. they didn't put any in my laundry room where I told them repeatedly we had the problem they only set them up outside and in the garage. I even showed them the whole in the laundry room. After 4 weeks I felt like the problem was escalating not getting better. They kept telling me I needed to be patient it would take a really long time. Called our maintenance guy he came right out put poison down, filled all the holes. started to find dead mice outside my house by the water sources. never had a smell in my house didn't have anymore mice problem. I hired this company, to eradicate moles in my back yard. The owner, blew smoke up my tailpipe for about 30 minutes, on the phone. A so called technician was sent to my place. He didn't even have enough proper equipment with him, to do the job right, I had to lend him 2 buckets. He set 5 mole traps, and left. I was billed 200 dollars. I called the owner, and said that wasn't right, he dropped it to 150 dollars. Here's where it gets bad. He charged me 150 bucks, to set the traps, no guarantee of capture, no fur, no tail, just pay the 150 bucks. Then, it's another 50 bucks, each time they come back to check the traps, still no fur, no tail, just keep paying the 50 bucks...This is a scam, and no boby should hire this outfit. If they run their whole operation like this, "PEST CONTROL", then I would strongly suggest hiring somebody else..... read more

Each year I have been dealing with a bee problem with a car of mine that tends to sit all the time. The bees get in the door jambs, side mirrors and the trunk, plus under the hood. They don't actually get "into" the seating area of the car, thankfully. They are always swarming my car. Last year I decided to do something about it and called Ask the Bug Man. I have an Angie's List account and found this company to be one of the highly rated pest companies with an A grade, plus a Super Service Award which is given to the top vendors by their customers. I was also looking for a company that used more of an environmental friendly product than most pest companies use, as I am somewhat sensitive to some of these bad chemicals and didn't want to deal with the odors when I use the car. David came out and got right to work. He was on time, very professional, and very friendly. He thoroughly sprayed each area plus knocked the bees nests off of the car when he was done. One area we both agreed not to treat was under the hood as the bees had gotten in the vent area and we didn't want chemicals to come through when I used my heater or air conditioner. (I was able to take care of this area later by running it through the car wash a couple of times as the water destroyed these nests). David's pricing was very affordable. I don't think he was there more than half an hour and he only charged me $50. I will definitely be using him again, in fact each year during the spring when the bees come back to my car. read more

Would not recommend. Took almost a month to catch the rat. Was told upon initial inspection it was a mouse, wasn't till I told them that it was able to get off the mouse sticky trap I bought that they said it was a rat. Had to ask for them to come back and rebait the traps since they didn't check them for 2 weeks. Kept asking for sticky traps for rats and finally got them almost a month later. Rat finally got caught because my dogs woke me up and I scared the rat and it ran past my leg and under my bed and got stuck on the sticky trap I placed next to my night stand. Called as a kind gesture to return the snap traps instead of just throwing them away. Spoke to Dylan the owners son and he agreed to text me (since I work from home) and coordinate a good time the next day to come and get the traps. Fast forward to the next day and he called 3 times and kept knocking on my door all while I am on an important phone meeting . Next thing I know my grocery person opens the door to deliver my groceries and then Dylan is in my apt looking for the traps. I'm super confused as the delivery person told me that he told him I'm not home. Dylan just came in. Dylan then keeps asking for a poison trap?!?! I told him they wouldn't put poison traps in my apt because of my three dogs. I told him they only gave me 3 snap traps and sticky traps. He keeps looking and telling me it's in here and he has pics. I told him no and he finally left. Very upset that he completely disregarded our agreement on the phone the day before to text message as I'm working and can't pick up the phone and then just inviting himself into my apt when the grocery person told him I'm not home. My tenants reported attic noise. These guys set bait traps for over 6 months. Insisted trying to seal the house was a waste of money. Convinced me the $55/month was going to continue until I could get my neighbors to get rid of their chickens and sign up with them for bait traps. I finally got smart, hired a real exterminator, DONE!!! Stay clear of these guys. They talk a good line but they couldn't even take down a credit card number correctly. Technician visited and determined he'd have to return with some equipment. There would be an initial service, an invoice at time of service, and a monthly agreement for monthly checkups/service. Technician Did not keep appointment or perform the service; did not send bill or set up contract; I dropped the matter and never re-scheduled that first-time service (because too many canceled appointments with no call).... Then almost 3 months later, a $250 bill that was stated "past due." Bill for what exactly? Where was supposed first bill? Where was invoice? Where was contract? When I called to clear it up, owner was immediately quite abusive. And I'm a polite professional person (can't imagine owner dealing with customers who might have temper problems). I was afraid and shaking. I understand some people suffer from psychological or emotional issues that make it hard to deal with anything approaching conflict (like questions about a bill). I think the owner of this company may suffer from such problems. But when someone is trying to collect money from you, that you do not believe you owe, and they're rude and yelling at you.... That's scary and stressful. In fact it may amount to unfair debt collection practice. Rudeness aside, the owner also would not agree to anything approaching resolution of the issue. He was unreasonable on that front too. He tried to insist that I "confront" his technician myself. I'm not the technician's employer. I told him I'd be happy to hear what the technician had to say, but the thing is, the technician had already represented that he did the service. Because the owner told me the technician logged the service as done. (Owner was quite accusative and adamant on that point.) I began asking (politely) what was the intended aim of me talking directly to the technician about it. Owner interrupted and shouted at me. It was as if I'd unjustly accused him of murder. When in fact he is unjustly accusing me of failing to pay a bill, and he is refusing to let me get to the bottom of it. When I politely asked for a scheduled phone call with the technician so I could have someone else there (who lives here and was witness to the fact that the technician never showed for appointment), owner said, "OH MY GOD. No. You can't di that, you have to talk to [technian] yourself, with no one else present." Huh? He repeated that again, was very offended that I'd want anyone else helping or involved. In the end I told him that the way he was talking to me was not ok. He was unable to adjust it though and the vitriol briefly got even worse before I brought an end to the conversation. At the very least, this company needs to have all invoices done at time of service with customer present, and signed by customer. If you do service with these people, request that. I don't recommend this service. I'm actually fearful now because they have my address. read more

Wow, I'm still fuming from being called an "a-hole" and hung up on by the proprietor of this business (Dave) today. This review is a warning about the unprofessional and incompetent "service" provided by Ask the Bug Man. Either that or they are wholesale charging people for pest control services they don't provide; I leave it up to you. The property referenced in this review is located in Springfield, OR. In short, after a $100+ initial consultation appointment and a few visits they stopped calling, they stopped showing up, but continued sending bills with a supposed "dates of service." As part of the "service" you are supposed to receive a phone call when the technician is coming by so you can: open gates, put away animals, not freak out there is a man in your yard.... seems pretty basic right? I know they have my number; they used to call it and it's listed on all of the bills! In early September when I received a bill for supposed 3 months of past due service in the mail, I got suspicious. I had assumed they stopped coming by. I questioned my tenant vigorously about the dates of service with her being emphatic that no one had been by (she was home all day studying on those dates). After having a pow wow with Dave on the lack of call/evidence of spraying he have me a discount and cleared out the old bill. I gave them the benefit of the doubt since it is a family business. In early October, same problem. No phone call, no evidence of visit (there are garbage cans in front of my gate with chalk around the base to see if moved). I again vigorously questioned my tenant whether the pest man had been by. This time I call to complain and refuse to pay the bill. After much back and forth including his claim that the technician (Dylan) had worked it out with my tenant (he did not - she has never received a call from them despite that her # is listed on the bill). Dave cancels the bill and I thought I canceled the service entirely..... no such luck. Today I receive another bill after no phone call and no evidence of anyone coming by. I called Dave again to refuse to pay for service I have not received. He had no recollection of our several month saga and claimed there were no notes in my customer file. He then claimed I was being unreasonable for not further grilling my tenant about the lack of call/evidence of spraying. This time the service was supposedly on 10/27 when there are bags of leaves in front of the gate. I'm sure the invisible and silent bug guy moved and put those back when he sprayed my yard! When I called this to Dave's attention he became unglued and raised his voice to me. I sarcastically complemented his "great customer service" and he hung up on me after calling me an a-hole. The first time I spoke to Dave - owner of Ask the Bug Man, he appeared knowledgable friendly and ready to help me with my ant problem. I also informed him I was having issues with spiders and he assured me they would come out 3 weeks after the initial ant baiting and spraying. Well its been a little over a month and the ants are worse than they were before using his service and they never made the trip out to spray the spiders all part of the original 150 quote. I called 3 weeks later to ask about the spider extermination and was told to call back at 4PM. I called and never received a call back. I called again last week and he again asked me to call after 4PM. THEN THERE WAS TODAY. I called and let Dave know I am still having issues with the ants and he got defensive and his tone was very demeaning like I was a child not listening to his "expertise", I let him know I called twice before and spoke to him. He then argued with me and said he answers every call and doesn't recall speaking to me. I then told him he asked me to call back after 4PM which he than said he asks people to do that sometimes when he is busy with other clients. I then told him I didnt call to argue with him about whether or not I called I am trying to get help with the ants. He then went on to tell me he is trying to explain and I am not listening and then continued to try and guilt me by telling me he has now missed 5 other calls while being on the phone with me (he just told me he answers every call, well 5 went to voice mail) trying to explain why he now feels he cant do anything about the spiders because I have to chose ants or spiders. I finally got fed up with his argumentative, rude attitude and told him to cancel me form his list. DONT WASTE YOUR TiME OR MONEY!! Side note: His associate that came out to the house was very nice and friendly. However the TREATMENT DID NOT WORK! They are worse now than before!! read more

Please do not use this service. Based on my experience, this service is unreliable and dishonest. I called for help with a rodent problem, and so we scheduled an appointment, to which nobody showed up to. We rescheduled, and no one showed up again. The third time, Dylan, his son, came, and was very polite, friendly, and informative. He laid traps for the rodents. He said he would return a week later to check on the situation, update traps, and see where the rodents were traveling around the attic. No one came a week later, and another week has passed, and after calling multiple times, and rescheduling, no one has followed through. When I've called after someone has again not shown up, no one answers. It is upsetting because I've already paid 150 dollars for a service that hasn't actually been fulfilled. It's a huge waste of time and money, I am disappointed. I feel cheated and lied to. read more

I recently cut down a sick looking tree in my back yard. While cutting it down I found termites. I was pretty concerned about them finding their way to my home. I called several local exterminators in Eugene on a Saturday. Dave (I'm pretty sure that's the owner) called me back promptly. He asked me several specific questions about my situation and the type of termite that I was. He was able to determine what kind of termite it was over the phone. He told me that I didn't need to worry because this type of termite only goes after rotting wood (therefore I would only need to be concerned if there was dry rot in my home). I got all of this expertise and peace of mind for free. For his expertise and honesty I give him 5 stars and will definitely recommend him to friends and family if the needs ever arises. read more

I was a little reluctant to call Ask the Bug Man after the reviews on here but was given as a recommendation from our realtor so decided to go for it and was so glad I did. We had a horrible sugar ant problem that was out of control. After trying to manage with spray from Lowes and Terro baits, they just kept coming back. I called Dave who was very informative and honest over the phone. He was able to send out one of his client reps, also Dave, that day. Dave was great at walking around the house, telling me points where the ants can travel in, spraying and leaving bait traps. It's been two months now since they came (I have monthly service) and every now and then we see a "scout" ant but not the thousands that were coming in from everywhere. Dave calls the evening before he is scheduled to arrive, asks how things are going, and leaves more bait if I need it. I am so thrilled that we have kept the ants away and for the excellent customer service. Oh, and Dave the owner's wife has been great too. I called to pay my first bill and she graciously gave me the new customer coupon off the website even though I didn't mention it. Talk about great customer service. I called Jan 2016 for an ant problem. Dave was happy to send someone out immediately & the set-up fee was $175. He explained how their service works: After the initial fee, they will call monthly to ask if I want the service for $40. If yes, we schedule, they leave an invoice, & I pay the bill. Great!! Dylan came out next day...things are good! No call Feb or March. In April I received an "overdue bill" for $80. I called Dave to ask what it was for. He said, service in Feb & March. He said the tech called you twice, did the work, left the invoice, & you own the money. I said, I had no phone calls, invoices or people to the house during those months & I work from home, so I know when people come & go to my house. He verified my phone number, which was incorrect!! I asked where the invoices were left...he had no explanation. He said the tech did the work. I asked how he knew that it was done at MY house when there was no evidence?? I stupidly paid the bill. He said they would be coming by to do the work for April. No call or service in April after paying this fabricated bill. No call in May or June or July. I called & talked with Dave on July 29 to ask why I have not been called. He looked at my account & said I was "inactive" because I had not paid my $80 bill. I suggested he look again...he found I had paid, but "someone" had not changed my account to "active," explaining that computers aren't always accurate. I pointed out that computers are "only as smart as the person who inputs the information." He said the "inactive" status was the reason I had not been called!! He said, OMGosh, you have not had service the last 2 months (or since Jan), we will come over tomorrow July 30 & do the service for free. Great!! I received a call from Dylan July 29 late pm to say he would be to my house the next day July 30 between 9-10. Great!! He called at 9:30 to say his job was taking longer than normal, it was his day off, & he had to help the boss (Dave) at UO & should be done around 1:30. Could he come by before 4pm. Great...I work from home & will be here all day!! July 30, No call after 9:30, No Dylan, NO SERVICE...again!! Monday, Aug 1, I called Dave again. I explained what Dylan said he would do that Friday & DID NOT DO!! He confirmed Dylan was with him at UO & said he would call Dylan & get something set up & he would show up before the end of that day MON, Aug 1. NO CALL, NO DYLAN, NO SERVICE!!! I'm done with these people. I have been more than patient, but excuses & promises have not been Good Customer Service. YOU ARE FIRED!!! I would NOT RECOMMEND this company unless you are the UO...they seem to have Dave's attention!! Today, 10/26/16 i received a statement saying I owe $80 for services June, July, August & September. Someone must have realized I did not receive service in June & July because there is a credit for $80. I called & spoke with Dave again... I explained again, that I still had not received a phone call from their company prior to doing service for any of those 4 months, nor did I receive the invoice that accompanies the service & since I work from home NEVER saw their tech person. He went into my account, verified my phone number which was corrected with my last call to him in July. I was promised ant traps after that call & he said my account showed I'd received them. NOT!! My account shows the tech came to my house all 4 months since the July call I made to him because of the statement I'd received for services I also had not received. He says he can't explain why I am not receiving the services & believes I'm being truthful. I explained he should question the tech to see if he factually did the service & where that service was done. Someone is receiving service but not getting the bill. His solution was to make me a new account & give me 2 months of free service. I politely declined his offer because I'm sure it will only result in more promises & the failure to make good on them. AGAIN...unless you are one of his 5000 other customers who don't have these problems...congrats to you. He will call credit the $80 on my account. Excuse, after excuse, is not a good way to maintain a successful business unless unsuspecting folks are not realizing they are paying for services they are not receiving. We've used Ask the Bug Man's services for several years. The initial service included spraying the outside of the house and baiting for ants. After the first service we rarely saw a spider in our house, with two small girls at the time this was much appreciated. Every now and then the ants go a little crazy or our cat fails to catch a mouse, and we give the office a call and someone drops by some new indoor ant traps or mouse traps to use often between service dates, even the occasional weekend. We are always called the afternoon before our service date, and the technician leaves a billing notice tucked in the door to let us know he was there. They have always been very careful to make sure the gates are shut so our dog doesn't escape. Excellent customer service, very nice to deal with. read more

I work from home and would hang out on the patio while the technician sprayed the inside of the house. Late last year after months of no one in our house but the bug man we noticed items missing. At first I didnt want to accuse without proof, but with no one in else visiting our house I have to assume it was the bug man that stole from our house. Over 2k worth of items missing including my 8 year olds sons wallet with $400 in it as missing. What makes me say it was him is that the only room with items missing were the two rooms out of view from my back patio. If some one had broken into our house there were more expensive items that would have been taken within walking in e door. Do not use these people!!! read more

I found a rat inside my house on April 3 late afternoon, trapped him in the laundry room, and got on the phone to call pest control companies to come help me. Some refused because it was a live animal (well, of course it's a live animal!). Others were nearly done for the day, including Dave, the Bug Man. We kept calling and found someone else who could come out that evening (though it ended up being the next morning). In the meantime, Dave called me back to see if he could help in the meantime. He gave me tips on how to trap and what to use, and let me know how cagey rats can be. The number one thing he suggested was to secure a towel in front of the door so the rat couldn't get through. When I protested and said the rat was as big as a squirrel and couldn't possibly get under the door, he let me know rats can get through an opening the size of a quarter! I learned a lot about rats from Dave, and while he didn't actually come out to my house, he helped get me started in the right direction. read more
