When I got in front of the windows he talked me through how to take the windows out of the track, identified that the "shoe" wasn't attached and that's why they won't stay open. After I got off the phone with him, I followed his instructions to get the shoe unstuck from the bottom of the track and managed to get them reattached to the windows, and now they both stay open! So incredibly helpful! If we needed to replace those windows we would definitely have gone back to Berge for it.

You ever have a basement window just....sporadically shatter for no apparent reason? Well,…read moreevidently this is just a thing that randomly occurs in this part of town. The last time I had glass shatter spontaneously was back in '24 when our winter storm door screen was completely pulverized by the summer heat, it seems (Pro-life tip: swap out your storm door screens in the summer with mesh ones). On the back of that unforeseen devastation, out went my mass inquiries to all the local shops servicing the Nashua area. Out of maybe 5 (?), 3 responded almost instantly. One sent a quote so high, I was half tempted to reply and ask if I could have some of whatever they were smoking. Another replied with what seemed to be a promising rate, but there was one problem. Their communication was severely intermittent to the point where they inexplicably ghosted me faster than a recruiter responding to a job applicant. Ultimately, I settled on Good Window Works. They offered a fair quote, were easy to get ahold of, and even provided a COI statement as per the request of our housing board. For those unaware, a COI is a Certificate of Insurance. Basically, it's assurance to the board that the contractor in question is insured to complete the job without creating a liability if they, say....jam their thumb beneath a tack hammer or something. With those formalities out of the way, the job was simple enough: Replace the half of the basement window that abruptly disintegrated. All in all, the job took roughly 2 hours. In the end, the window he installed was so transparent, it looked like there was no pane at all in the frame. But no--the glass was just THAT pristine! I don't say this often, but....experiences like these are what I love most about being a Yelp writer. So rarely do I get to be in the position to not only promote another hard working local business, but also pose as the microcosmic advertising vehicle that just might serve as the prompt some very fortunate individual needs to go, "Yeah, I'm hiring this place to work on my house". If you're wondering whether you should hire these guys for your next installation or repair job, the answer is likely yes. Good Window Works is worth 5 window panes clearer than thin air out of 5.

The original estimate was done from the ground, however when the technician was able to get the unit out of the frame, (This is an old style window), we both saw that additional work had to be done. The tech did the work and did an excellent job. It was only a bit more over the original estimate, but quite reasonable. I highly recommend Good Window Works.

This is a Busy Shop!…read more These guys are great. My wife and I wandered in this afternoon to get some replacement knobs and spindles and grub screws for our 1796 farmhouse in Pelham, NH. Hmmm. "Wandered in" probably isn't the right term. Rather, we planned a trip down for when we would be in Boston. The other reviewers mentioned a room full of categorized drawers and I'll back that up: black knobs, brass knobs, rosettes, etc. A gentleman who was applying new window putty to old window frames pointed us towards the room and we spent an hour digging through the drawers and assembled 3 sets of knobs. We are so grateful that places like this still exist -where if you are willing to do some legwork, you can find old hardware, appropriate for old houses. We've looked online and unless I am missing something, there an isn't an Amazon or Home Depot of this world. Nobody is going to clean off old hardware, stage it over a white background, properly light it to make sure the camera doesn't show up in the picture, research what period it came from and post a description for it. It would be cost prohibitive to buy from a place like that. But this place is the next best thing. Go into the room, get your hands dirty and experience the thrill of the hunt! There were 6 workers in this immediate space that we observed while we were waiting to check out/browsing to see what else we could find. They were all friendly, but super busy. Since I wasn't there for window or other services, I can't comment on their scheduling or invoicing as others have. An observation though: perhaps we have to adjust our expectations a bit. Reading the other reviews shows what I would describe as a system problem. These houses that these windows and other trim came out of are not cookie cutter where the same windows were installed on every wall. Rather, these represent a smorgasbord of choices. Often, it is the homeowner that is trying to preserve something about the character of something that is no longer available to buy. Not only that, but have you tried to find a contractor that provides this service for you? Time has forgotten those craftsman in the wild, instead, shops like this one exist that collect knobs and spindles and craftspeople all together in special places like this one. One only needs to wander in to remember. Sort through and find what you are looking for. Have the patience to find success. And recognize that this is perhaps the answer to a system problem. You are going to spend a little more time and a little more money than you want to buy that's ok. It's your choice to preserve something that everyone else has forgotten. Remember why you came. You will be grateful you did.

It will go up and down several times before it remains closed. I've been late for appointments that I left extra early for because I couldn't trust the door to close. A technician has come out 3 times since October; the answer is always how very sensitive the sensors are. There's NOTHING interfering with the sensors. Even the technicians don't see anything. We are very disappointed that this company cannot fix a problem they installed. These are sensors for warm weather states. They don't work reliably in MA fall and winter months.
