I called more times than I can count and got nowhere every single time. It wasn't until I finally contacted the corporate office that your location suddenly decided they would allow me to book an appointment. Once I got there, the problems only got worse. I was told I needed a procedure that I had already had done and that I absolutely did not need again. The only thing that made it different this time was that my insurance wouldn't cover it, so of course it came with a nice out-of-pocket price tag. That didn't sit right with me, so I went to another dentist for a second opinion. He confirmed exactly what I suspected -- I did not need their so-called "special" $400 cleaning or the extra treatment they were pushing. I really wish I had paid attention to the reviews before walking into this place, because what happened to me clearly isn't rare. When so many people are saying the same things, it's not bad luck it's how they do business. If you're looking for honest care instead of pressure to buy things you don't need, I'd strongly suggest finding a different office. read more

I have been a patient of Aspen Dental for years with good service. In the early part of 2025 Aspen Dental looked around for a Hygienist as the one they had left. I was scheduled for a cleaning in May but was in the hospital with Pancreatic Cancer so my husband took my place. Since then it has been exhausting as they keep telling me they have put me on a waiting list. In October 2025, I had a visit with Dr. Oakes and she said she had hired one and they would call me the following week. To date I have never received a phone call. It is now January 23, 2026. Very, very disappointing. I cannot provide a good rating as I have Cancer and trying to take care of my teeth and gums. I have expressed my disappointment to fall on deaf ears. read more

I went in for a dental cleaning. The charge was exorbitant and based on the cleaning being down over two appointments. They charged my insurance company for two visits when in reality they did the entire cleaning in one visit! They also added an antibiotic treatment without asking if I wanted to pay the additional charge or even making me aware of the fact that they were doing it and that it would result in additional charges and not covered by insurance. Now, I am receiving bills from them for even MORE money because they didn't estimate things correctly to the insurance company (or they billed it incorrectly). Never again! read more

I've been going to Aspen dental for years not because they are are the gold standard of dentistry but because that's one of the only bottom of the barrel practices my blue cross fed dental plan allows me to be apart of, I've been back and forth with them from getting huge bills that make no sence and paying for irrigation fees , that means water, I'm glad I don't rent a apartment from Aspen dental because they would be a slumlord that paints over outlet covers and then charges for hefty fees for performing state of the art work, I've been in billing disputes with them and then my favorite making appointments waiting 3-5 months for the long anticipated appointment to arrive then just to get a call a few days before to be told that the dentist would not be in and we have to reschedule, Please if you have the option during open season at work to change insurance and somehow get into a different dentist please do. -from a long term Aspen dental victim read more

I can't even give them any stars. I have had trouble with my bottom dental plate since the fitting. I have gone back and forth with them for adjustments and they just don't fit right. I have called and asked them to refit me and they have not responded. My next step is to request half my money back as I have had to resort to using my old set of bottom dentures. I called Aspen Dental because I wanted Veneers, I asked very, very specifically "Do you do veneers at this facility" they said YES, with that being said I was told I could have an appointment in a month and a half, finally went to the appointment, the lady who took my x-rays was fabulous and very friendly, as well as the dental assistant and Dentist, HOWEVER, after all that, the Dentist says, you really don't need veneers, your teeth look good, "But I can give you a referral to a Cosmetic Dentist in Portland, we don't do them here" REALLY! Update with my issue with Aspen Dental in Maine.. please see a photo of what they said in a response to my State of Maine Complaint... In August they wrote that I would receive a full refund on all four crowns.. on their refund site states it takes 14 days for a refund.. Here we are in October. My less than three month crown snapped taking my permanent tooth with it.. I have a broken tooth in my gums that needs to be addressed by the end of December or the refund to my insurance will not be valid or will not roll over for my use.. emailed corporate today regarding my dilemma...Left message with corporate today regarding the refund that isn't being made...Also updated State of Maine Dental Board... I have been a patient for over 10 years of Dr. Oakes. I had a chipped tooth. I called for emergency appointment and was denied. On August 6 I went to urgent care due to an infection from said tooth. Was told to see my dentist and received antibiotics. On August 7 I went to the office to see Dr. Oakes. She said the tooth was too infected for her and sent me to the ER. ER confirmed infection, but said antibiotics course was sufficient and I should "see my dentist for extraction." Between August 7 and 10 I called the office multiple times and employee Cass denied me services. She said Dr. Oakes did not want to see me. She said that I could not come in. She said she would give me a referral which was simply a piece of paper with no actual referred names on it. I told her I needed to urgently see a dentist as my health was at risk and my antibiotics would run out. She said "we all know antibiotics stay in our bodies for 30 days." To my knowledge Cass is not a licensed professional.  Cass insisted over and over Dr. Oakes would not see me. This is after 10 plus years of relationship. I called several oral surgeons who had no space in their schedules. It's also likely oral surgery would have been more expensive. I called one final time on 8/10 to ask if there were emergency services the following day. I asked what exactly Sr. Oakes had said and was told by Cass that she had not actually spoken to her about me.   It was confirmed I could come in and wait. I did so. For two hours, while Cass ignored me.  Finally, the dental assistants in the back of the office took it upon themselves to get me in. The ethically responsible thing to do for a long/time patient facing a serious infection.  Dr. Oakes assured me it was a "clerical mistake" that prevented her from seeing me. She did the extraction but she DID NOT apologize for the snafus.  I called back to speak to Cass and query why she had not offered me an apology, or any acknowledgement at all that she prevented me from necessary treatment as well as gave me erroneous medical advice. She hung up the phone under proclaimed duress even though I was the patient with the actual critical situation.  Today, the office manager of the office called me twice to reprimand me for calling Cass back on Friday. I explained this full situation and she made it clear that she would only hear one side, that of Cass, and that if I reported this incident to you I'd be "hurting Dr. Oakes reputation." I filed with the dental board for the state of Maine. I haven't been a patient at this practice in Biddeford, but I tried to be. There's a lot of detail, but for the most part I'll observe that the team don't have the technology and operations to support them in helping patients. I left more than one voicemail, and none of them were returned. I also showed up for an appointment that shouldn't have been scheduled at that time, due to an error by someone on their team; no worries, I scheduled for a month after that. Then today, more systems and technology issues (30+ minutes waiting on hold, person putting me on hold without asking if there was an emergency). I spoke to the general manager, who looked into things (which I appreciate) and he said he'd look into the voicemail and putting people on hold without asking if there was an emergency. The staff there told the general manager that I yelled at her, which isn't something I do and didn't do with her. I was frustrated, for sure, because of my previous experience and had tried to be understanding. I put it down to the fact that this team is just too busy and needs a better technology/operations infrastructure to support them in helping patients. I looked at the girl that just said my teeth looked good .and she had a very discussed look at the owner like he was lying to drill my teeth . Had my first appointment and it was quick and easy. They got me in right away and the assistant that did my X-rays and denture impressions was very nice and seemed to genuinely care for patients. Seen the doctor and he explained things to me and told me implants were the way to go . I told them I couldn't afford implants at the moment. They said that's okay and I can still get the dentures that later down the road can be adapted for implants. Doctor was very knowledgeable. Then they brought me out front to see the financial lady and I was shocked at first when I was told my dentures would be over $4,000. I explained that their website said $500 off each top and bottom. I showed her on my phone their website and she honored the discount and removed it from my bill . After the discounts and my insurance coverage I was able to get a set of the best dentures for $1600. She had me fill out for the financing and I was approved. I have two more appointments before I will get my dentures but I'm excited. I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about? My experience so far has been good . I was always told you get what you pay for . After reading all the reviews I really hope my dentures fit perfect . Also the financing had a little bit of a high interest rate but that's to be expected with no credit . The monthly payments are still affordable at $74.00 per month. Worst experience of my life! I haven't been to a dentist in many, many years due to well, being poor and not having access to low cost dentistry in my home state. I already felt terrible about this, but am now in a better position to afford not only the insurance, but the out of pocket costs as well. Once I signed up for the insurance through my employer, a cavity made itself known, so I contacted this Aspen to schedule an appointment and get the ball rolling. We get the xrays done and comprehensive exam. I go over a few options with the first person and they go to talk to the other dentist. She comes in and says I really need to have them all pulled (I have all my teeth still, not to that point) and get dentures. Neither dentist would stop commenting on how long I went without dental care this whole time in a wide open room so everyone else can hear the discussions, which made me feel like a piece of you know what and just wanting to climb into a hole and die. So they decide this the route we need to take and send me out to speak to financial. We go over the procedure, they have another dentist come in and do the extractions, he comes whenever he wants and you have no choice in scheduling and so on, tells me just about everything I need to know about this other dentist. Then comes the out of pocket cost , over $12,000! I say I don't have that just laying around so she hands me a tablet and says fill this application out for financial assistance, basically it's a loan at a rate of 28%, $350 a month a 5 years, over 21k after finance. I say I can't really do that either so she then hands me a print out to give to my bank to see if I can get a better rate with them, she specifically says work for word "don't bother reading this, you won't understand it but the bank will". So I left feeling totally helpless and thinking I have yet again, signed up for insurance I can't afford to us. I'm poor, not stupid, so I take this paper and go online to my benefits and all the procedure codes are covered 80%, my part should only be a few thousand. The don't read part was because they fail to tell you that the other dentist doing the bulk of the surgery is not in network and hope your not smart enough to figure it out. This was on purpose and I feel predatory. stay away from this place unless you have perfect teeth and just need cleanings. read more

This went well and I made an appointment for a cleaning at that time for August 24, but I had to cancel because of an emergency. I spoke with a rather terse woman when rescheduling, and I was told my next appointment wouldn't be until late November. Really? The office is THAT busy?
