I wish now I had read the yelp reviews first because I had the exact same experience as so many other one star reviews. I moved to the area about a year ago and had not been in to get my teeth cleaned since moving here. I was used to going every six months so decided I needed to get in somewhere for routine cleaning. I called them on Tuesday and was surprised to hear they had appointments available the very next day. Some of the other local dentists I had contacted were booking appointments two months out. I arrived on time went through "routine" full mouth x-ray, was moved to a room went through a "routine" full mouth 3-D imaging scan from the dental hygienist. The dentist then came in the room spent about 15 seconds, looking at my photos on the screen never once even looked in my mouth and told me I needed three crowns and a bunch of other dental work. I was then ushered upfront to the business office and was told the total cost for the work I needed to have done was slightly over $7000. I declined and was told that was my only option or I could decline treatment which I did. I was there for over two hours and didn't even get the routine cleaning that I had scheduled an appointment for. I now have an appointment with a highly recommended local dentist about two months out, but I'm happy to wait. This place just really seemed like a total scam to me. read more

The new dentist is a total prick. He'll only lecture you about what you're doing wrong when it comes to your teeth. During my 1st appointment with him, he actually gave me a list of books to read to "educate" myself and change my lifestyle to help me with my teeth. He seems to forget that bad genetics and finances are a big factor in people's poor dental health. Also, he will not prescribe any pain medication for any service performed. They just told me to use a ridiculous amount of over the counter meds. 3 500mg Ibuprofen and 4 500mg Tylenol. For acting like he cares about health, he doesn't give a shit about your liver, apparently. read more

There is a time for a sales pitch, but not when the patient is in pain and needing assistance. I developed a tooth ache, my dentist was closed for spring break. I went to Aspen for one reason and one reason only. A tooth ache! First, I received a full mouth xray (not just the bad tooth) then... when the dentist came in the first thing he talked to me about was the age of my denture and partial and how they needed to be replaced??? I am absolutely happy with my denture and partial. Next he proceeded to poke and prod on every tooth in my mouth talking about what major repairs needed to be done to every tooth. I was at my regular dentist about 4 months ago and all was fine. Finally... he addresses the tooth causing pain. I was instructed it needed a root canal and new crown or extraction. He prescribed an antibiotic which I need to take for a week before extraction. Then I was taken to a desk and A lady talked to me about $11,000 worth of treatment I needed to schedule. I declined at which time she gave me an appointment for the extraction and ask me to sign papers authorizing the extraction on a future visit. Lol... i did not sign anything... and I will never visit Aspen again. read more

Went to Aspen Dental and was told I might have mouth cancer by the dental assistant prior to any cancer screening, biopsy OR Dentist input. Afterwards was told I needed over $7,000 of work done... was not even in any pain. When I came home in tears my husband called them immediately and they told him I was lying. Went to a different dentist (private practice of over 35 years) no cancer, no $7,000 bill and a wonderful cleaning. Do yourself a favor and skip aspen, not worth it. read more

This place in Brownwwod, TX. is a joke. They are trying to keep the doors open by doing initial dental visit and exams without the follow up unless they can take you into major dental procedures. It's like a time share sales pitch but it's supposed to be a dentist. Then after the first exam they want to sit and discuss more procedures (pressure sales again like time share) and if you don't agree to all they are selling, they will not contact you to do the dental work you actually needed. They were supposed to call me with a quote for a bridge, but they wanted to do implants (which cost about 25k) I wanted the bridge, they won't even return a call with the price for the bridge. The dentist told me my medical doctor and all medical doctors don't know anything about healthy diet, but he said he read a book and he knows what is best because he's a dentist and read a book... Literally that is his words. He literally tried to belittle me and talk down to me, which I didn't allow and because of that now they won't even call me with information from my insurance companies. I had just had surgery and he was telling me to not listen to my medical doctor (the surgeon) but to listen to him because he read a book and knows everything. The dentist is some insecure guy from California that honestly thinks he is better than everybody else, and will tell you he is. This place is the biggest joke I have ever seen. I don't usually write reviews, but this place needs one so that you folks know it is a joke and not a dentist office and so you don't make my mistake of going here. Avoid this place! Went on with a simple cavity to be filled. Website says "starting at $110" realized 10 minutes into appointment that was total bait and switch. First was optional "oral cancer screening for $30. Are you prepared and able to spend that today?" Set the tone for selling additional stuff. And pushing services. Followed by gum assessment... X-ray after x-ray after x-ray. Poor radiological safety practices too... And then a assessment that multiple crowns are needed in many places and gee, we can do it for $14,000. Even though the x-ray clearly showed a cavity that barely reached nerve so root canal probably not needed. Just the cavity and root canal is $1800. Right... Walked right out at this point. It was pretty obvious that the dentist did not graduate at the top of his class - in fact the lack of any diplomas or licenses on the walls was a bit ominous. No way I was going to trust him to do anything after the constant sell attempts. Also it was a great touch to have you wait and wait to find out "how much it will be for your treatment plan". After 30 minutes of pain (qualifies as under duress on my opinion) folks will sign anything. Going to file a complaint with Texas Dentist board next.... read more

I went for what I was explained was going to be a cleaning & ending up spending 3+ hours there without getting a cleaning & being told I need $600 worth of dental work & I was pressured to pay up front for at least half. I placed a deposit of half of it & decided the next day I wanted a second opinion so I called for a refund. I was told that my refund would be processed in 3-5 business days & would go directly back on the card I originally paid with. I called on 10/26 & it's now 11/6 and I have yet to receive my refund. I called and spoke with the Assistant Office Manager and she was very unhelpful and told me my refund was processed as a check sent via SNAIL MAIL. What a joke. Why wasn't I told this originally? They blamed it on a new employee training. If you can't train your employees you have bigger problems. That call was made 2-3 days ago & I was told I would receive my check either that day or the next. I have still yet to receive my money. I am extremely disappointed in them and I will NEVER recommend them to anyone. read more

Customer service is horrible. My husband was seen last week and during the consultation we were concerned why the insurance was not paying more. We were told and received a printout that we would have to pay out of pocket $459 of an $895 bill. This was confusing since our insurance covered 80% of basic coverage. Met with the Assistant Office Manager, Rikki Johnson, about our concerns and she seemed to be focused on getting at least a $200.00 deposit from us in order to schedule an extraction. We left stating that we would check around with our insurance carrier and other dental providers to compare prices. She informed us that the insurance company would not pay for repeat x-rays and I reminded her that we could request that copies of the x-rays be sent to another dentist, which she agreed could happen. She did not appear to be pleased that we did not commit to her care plan. I contacted our insurance carrier and was it was confirmed that our plan paid 80% of contracted charges to preferred providers and was provided with the name of another dental association. Appointment was made with the new dentist. Attempted to contact Ms. Johnson NUMEROUS times -- on Friday and on Monday. On Tuesday, the day before the new dentist visit we still had not heard from Ms. Johnson so we went to the office to personally request copies of the x-rays and/or a copy of the electronic file be sent to the new dentist. Ms. Johnson never communicated with us and left us in the waiting room for 45 minutes. We asked the receptionist twice to see what was the delay. Finally, we were told that their printer had run out of ink and she could not print the x-rays. Asked that the electronic file be sent to my husband's e-mail so we could have it in time for this appointment. Was told that the e-mail would be sent. Did not receive the e-mail later that afternoon and called back -- was now told that it would take 24 hours for them to send it. Long story short and more drama later, it was agreed that they would contact the Aspen Dental in Abilene and have them print the x-rays. Went there, within 5 minutes had the hard copy x-rays. Asked receptionist in Abilene if she could e-mail the x-rays to the new dentist, she agreed and she did. All completed within 10 minutes. Not sure why Ms. Johnson ignored our requests, our phone calls, and did not speak with us. Would hate to think that she did not want to deal with us because we were black. Makes one think. We, however, will NEVER go back to this dental office. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression. He was a new patient in pain, now he is an ex-patient. For a new business in town where there is competition, they need to retrain and select customer-friendly personnel. Needless to say, if anyone asks us about the Aspen Dental in Brownwood, I'll tell them to get your popcorn because boy, do we have a story to tell you. read more
