Disappointing First Visit - I Won't Be Returning I recently moved from Michigan to Alabama and needed to schedule my routine 6-month cleaning, something I've consistently done twice a year for the past 18+ years. I've always had pain-free, professional experiences at my previous dental office in Michigan, so I was hoping for the same when I scheduled with Aspen Dental for the first time. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Since it was my first visit, I expected to have X-rays done--which is completely understandable. However, the machinery seemed outdated, and the tools used to position my mouth for the pictures were very uncomfortable and painful. I expressed this to the dental assistant, and her response was, "Yeah, a lot of people say it hurts, but you have to bear with it." She seemed annoyed that I was vocalizing my discomfort, which was very unprofessional. She eventually asked for someone else to take over. Thankfully, the next assistant was a bit gentler, but the damage was done. The next day (today), my gums were still sore, and I could feel the indentation from where the tools were pressed in. To make matters worse, the billing process was confusing and felt a bit deceptive. After sitting down with the billing receptionist, I was initially told the visit would cost $278, which immediately raised red flags because I've never had to pay for an initial exam, X-rays, or cleaning in the past with insurance. When I questioned it, they removed $200 worth of services I hadn't requested. I still ended up paying $78 for fluoride and some additional item they vaguely described. Again, not something I ever encountered at my previous dentist. Overall, this experience was far from what I consider acceptable for a simple cleaning visit. Between the poor bedside manner, the physical discomfort, and the questionable billing practices, I will not be returning to this location. My husband has an upcoming appointment at another Aspen Dental branch, and I'm curious to see how his experience compares--but I personally cannot recommend this office. read more

We tried to talk to a manger before I made this review but instead he got the front office staff to call him back. All she kept saying was we're sorry you feel this way. And we finished the conversation by nothing resolved. read more

I went to Aspen Dental for a checkup and was told I needed significant treatment, including a root canal, fillings, and crowns. Before starting, the office ran my insurance and provided a written estimate showing about $2,000 total out-of-pocket. Given the scope of work, this seemed reasonable. I agreed to proceed, signed the paperwork, and paid $1,000 upfront, with the remaining balance paid across my appointments as planned. Several months later, I began receiving texts claiming I owed an additional $3,500. I assumed this had to be an error, it didn't seem possible that an estimate of $2,000 could suddenly turn into $6,500 out-of-pocket. When I called, I was told there were insurance issues and that I did in fact owe the additional balance. I spoke with the office multiple times over the following weeks. Eventually, I was assured they would resolve the insurance matter and call me back. That callback never came, so I believed the issue had been handled. Months later, I again started receiving texts and letters stating I owed $3,500. Attempts to contact the office resulted in long hold times and no clear resolution. I am now being told the balance is past due and may be sent to collections. This situation has been extremely stressful. I agreed to treatment based on the estimate provided in good faith. Clear billing communication and accountability are essential, especially for medical care involving large financial commitments. read more

Aspen really isn't an emergency dentist. I broke a tooth (from grinding my teeth at night d/t stress) and contacted them since they are advertised as an emergency dentist. I made the first appointment after work to have the tooth pulled (which the appt was around 4:00pm in another town...because that was the closest location I could get in ASAP). I go in (like right at my appt time and not a minute later...no patients in the waiting room or having procedures), fill out my paperwork, have x-rays taken and then meet with the dentist who was like "yeah you need your tooth pulled but it's too late today we can't do it. I'm like "this is an emergency dentist and I've been waiting 3 days for this appt to have this done." Anyway I rescheduled for the weekend but decided my dental anxiety was too much for a normal dentist so I wanted sedation dental for the extraction. I decided to make an appt with the oral surgeon (BTW-the oral surgeons only come once a month) but never went because of personal health reasons. So I canceled that appt. in order to return when I was better. So here's another concern. The office will schedule you to be seen by the surgeon and then the surgeon is ALLOWED to just move patients around on their schedule all willy nilly just to make their lives easier. I have a huge problem with that. As a person that is the sole provider in my household I have to work. I'm also a contract remote worker for a school district. So my job requires that I'm there from 7:00-:3:45. I have students that miss out on their treatments when I'm absent, so I try my best to provide them with the care they need and deserve. But with the surgeon rearranging their schedule just for their benefit is concerning and NOT patient centered. It's bad enough that they only come once a month but then the patient has to take off an entire day just to accommodate someone who only cares about their own precious time. The surgeon works for the patient and the patient has to work in order to have the funding (which the sedation extraction was going to be over $600 when all was said and done) and insurance to take care of whatever the need is that is provided by that surgeon. So basically because the surgeon is allowed free range over their schedule the patient basically has to take off work just in case the surgeon wants to leave early or whatever. I don't really like that system and it's NOT patient centered. Honestly my whole experience with Aspen seemed like it was more for the convenience of the staff and not patient. Everyone was nice at the offices but there was no real sense of urgency with this "emergency"dental office. When I think of emergency I think same day not later in the week or months down the road. Currently my tongue is torn up from my broken tooth cutting the side of my tongue for the last 5 months. I paid a down payment for the surgery and rescheduled but then I was told the surgery over $500 was due at the time of the service. I lost my job in the midst of my other emergency illness (I was a contract therapist so no FMLA). *I had to have emergency surgery so part of the long wait was due to that surgery and recovery and not Aspen. I don't see how Aspen is "emergency" but maybe you'll have a better experience read more

I am very frustrated. You never can't get anyone to answer the phone in the office or call you back. I paid upfront for a plan due to needing extensive cleanings and a temporary partial after being recommended to an oral surgeon I was in numerous messages and I still haven't gotten a call back and I've been charged for things that I have not received. As of yet in and I'm unable to get a call back so I can make an appointment for the fitting of the partial, so I'm not able to schedule my surgery until somebody calls me back. I work on the other side of town so it's impossible for me to get off on time on the days that they are there to go to the office to get somebody to help me . I'm very frustrated. Disappointed with the Customer service. I'm not sure I'll be able to get this resolved or get my money back.. read more

(UPDATE) Okay, I was able to get an appointment with Aspen Dental - Madison. I thought I would update my review. I went June 1, 2023. The staff couldn't have been nicer to me. They listened to me and then went to work right away. In no time, I was in the chair in no time. There was a cancellation. The dentist (professional and really nice) started the implants right away. I left there with two temporary implants. I went back today (June 2, 2023) to the dentist to see how I was doing. Everything was fine, and the assistant fixed my lower denture, so I could wear it until I heal enough to get my permanent implants and new lower denture. I go back on August 2, 2023 for that. I am so excited about getting this work done. Wish I had gone to the Madison Aspen Dental in the first place. I am certain I would not have posted the negative review. Positive visit. read more

AVOID!!! This place is joke, a sorry excuse for a corporate dentist. They overbook their schedule and you end up waiting longer no matter what. They always try to sell you something and upsell you more than what your insurance will cover, or what you may need. I also had an extremely rough hygienist that didn't offer any numbing of the gums for deep cleaning. The pain was excruciating. read more

Today, June 22, 2022, I went to Aspen Dental at highway 72 and Nance in Madison. I was very positively impressed with the folks there. They were all very friendly and competent. I was attended by several employees. My teeth were examined, cleaned, impressions taken, Fluoride applied, plus an oral cancer inspection. Everything was nicely and efficiently accomplished. I would recommend Aspen Dental to anyone! And for someone with no insurance, the prices were not too expensive! read more

Back in January, i was scheduled for a first visit, but when i showed up the office wasn't even open. I was one of several people waiting for an appointment at this location. We all just stood around outside looking confused. I tried calling the office but no one was answering. I left a few messages. After some considerable time, a woman came to the door and ushered the group waiting outside into the lobby. This was at a time when mask advisories were a bit more strict, because only the first wave of people were getting vaccinated. I remember being very frustrated that the signs on the door required all patients to wear masks upon entry yet the woman guiding us in had no mask on. Its a double standard and i just don't appreciate it. The woman that led us in tells us that the doctor isn't even there because he took off to get his vaccine. Yet all of us were scheduled for appointments that morning. She rescheduled me and i left. When i got to the car i got a returned call from the customer service line and i stated my frustrations. I spoke to a manager that facilitates over a few locations and i asked if i could have my appointment moved to the location in huntsville because i just did not have faith in this location. Sadly the huntsville location ended up letting me down in a much bigger way than a simple schedule mishap and mask faux pas. I highly advise avoiding aspen dental and all affiliates. read more

Unprofessional, they say they "call to confirm" 24 hours before your appointment to make sure you're still coming and then cancel your appointment if you don't call back. I received zero phone calls, I then show up for my appointment @ 9 told it was canceled? By who? not me? I as an adult will cancel an appointment if I wasn't gonna show. I received zero phone calls and 24 hours before my appointment I was extremely busy that day so I'm glad they took the DECISION to cancel my appointment. They did not send a text, they always send a text every appointment I'm so glad they were able to reschedule me 2 weeks later so I couldn't give ZERO stars. read more

Way back in June I booked appointments with this office due to its proximity to my home. They booked me for August 18. After waiting 2 months they sent me a notification the day before my appointment that they had to reschedule. Disappointed, but understanding I called and rescheduled my appointment. They set it up for September. I waited another month, then the day of my appointment as I was getting off work early to leave for it they called and had to reschedule again. I was upset, but yet still said ok and the set me up for November 29. I waited several more months. I even received an email from them the day before saying that my appointment was set for 3pm! Finally!! I took more PTO from my job, only to show up at the office and then to tell me in person that they aren't taking any more new clients. Yes I was furious!!!!!!!!!!! These are the most unprofessional office I've ever seen. Out dated equipment, phone number no one answers. My sister was seen and was told she had an infection in her gums. Wrote her a prescription that Walgreens couldn't fill because because of mistakes on the prescription. Made several calls back line, emergency line for 3 days and still haven't received a call back. I went in for a cleaning and exam just after they opened after the shutdown for Covid19. They told me I needed to have crowns on three teeth that I have never had problems with. After three appointments and way too much time in the chair with a very rough and uncaring dentist, I had one new cap. I had been told that my insurance would cover the costs, then they rejected the claim saying that there was insufficient decay to justify the new cap. I now owe over $1200 and have no idea how to pay it. I live on SS and a small pension. Beware, this was an unnecessary dental procedure that was only done so that they could make up lost revenue due to the pandemic!! read more

My family was seen by the office for cleanings and fillings. Every member of the staff was courteous and personable. My 12 year old handled the fillings like a champ and felt nothing! My 10 year old was visibly upset at the prospect of getting a shot. Rather than strong arm her, they referred her to a pediatric clinic so she wouldn't grow to fear the dentist. I had a toothache so I scheduled with Aspen dental which was a new place nearby my house I called early since they open up at 7:30 to schedule an emergency appointment is scheduled me an appointment for noon on that day and confirmed it and he told me I need to arrive 15 minutes prior to fill out paperwork in the meantime we took all my information name address date of birth and insurance and you said it I was there except my insurance so everything was good when I got there 30 minutes prior parking lot was empty no customers that I could see and when I walked in they look like they don't want to deal with me I said I had appointment at 12 noon and I'm a new patient and I would need to fill out paperwork they said that I was in the system but I don't have an appointment for 12 noon they said the latest appointment I have is Thursday at 9:30 which I called in for an emergency you know to take a look at my tooth and they had a sign saying that emergencies walking welcome apparently I wasn't welcome possibly because I am Asian and I would not be recommending them and will be telling all of my friends and social media to avoid this place.I called this place twice to try to get an a appointment but twice I was hung up and so am I guess I'm I'm done with them and that this waste of my time and now I have to try to find another dentist while I'm in during this a tooth pain so that's my review of his dental office read more
