Accompanied a friend to her appointment here. She went in for a simple teeth cleaning as her first time there. They took X-rays, diagnosed her with periodontal disease, informed her she had multiple cavities that would require fixing, removal of her wisdom teeth followed up by braces. All while refusing to give her the cleaning she initially came in for. They gave her the excuse of because she was "diagnosed with periodontal disease" they were unable to give her anything other than a deep cleaning due to it being malpractice. Which, that's not how patient autonomy works. After continual attempts to get to service she came in for, she was denied without accepting these additional charges and 1.5 hrs later eventually had to leave. They also made it difficult to get her X-rays so she wouldn't have to have repeat them. Overall, It seemed very predatory to get her into doing and paying more than what she intended. I'm glad she advocated for herself to avoid additional charges, but patients shouldn't have to. Opposite of health-CARE. Wouldn't recommend this business. read more

Very poor experience. At first visit, I was told by the hygienist that my gums looked good with mild inflammation, which is normal. They don't do any cleaning at first visit, just a consultation with the hygienist and dentist. I was told when talking to office manager that the hygienist recommended "a moderate" cleaning, which is not covered by my insurance. As someone who works in healthcare and understands benefits, I know that this cleaning is not covered by most insurance plans, as only a normal cleaning is sufficient. I was told the price for a CLEANING was $2900 but a coupon would bring it down to $2600. I asked if I could just do a normal cleaning that is covered by my insurance, and they said they could only do the higher level cleaning recommended by the hygienist. Honestly, it makes me sad because they probably trick patients into paying that frequently. It's poor patient care to label any sort of gum inflammation as "early periodontal disease" just to make a buck. The dentist was very kind and knowledgeable, so I don't take issue with the care he provided. I do take issue with their predatory tactics to make money off of patients. They let me walk out the door without scheduling any care with no issue, which makes it obvious they care about the money and not the patient. Yet another mistake on my part for booking an appointment with an establish close to home. I've never had such a difficult time scheduling a routine cleaning. As a new patient, you should prepare for multiple visits. My first visit was strictly for x-rays and a mouth exam for upselling. My second visit was for an unnecessary gum treatment that ended up not being covered by insurance. I talked with both the secretary and office manager beforehand and they claimed I would be covered after a co-pay. My final visit was for the cleaning I actually needed. The hygienist was so soft it felt like she wasn't even touching my teeth. It went by so fast I don't think she tried at all. Wait times on average are 20+ minutes. During my last visit I waited 30 minutes after my appointment time because the hygienist claimed "she didn't see me" in the waiting area. After all of the visits I received an EOB saying that I still owed money. I quickly called the office and the secretary again assured me I shouldn't owe anything. When I received a bill I called again and that's when the secretary said she did not say for sure if all my services would be covered. The office manager sided with the secretary, and for about a week and a half there was communication between my insurance and the Aspen office staff. Luckily my insurance company was able to get me squared away, but SHEESH. Research before choosing any health care provider is a must and I have learned my lesson! read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! This place is a scam! I was new to the area and I needed an emergency filling. I talked to someone on the phone who assured me they could fix my filling in one visit. I just got a new insurance plan and all my services should have been covered. When I got there, they spent over an hour taking endless x-rays, 3d images, etc. of my entire mouth and some kind of scan that seemed completely pointless. I had been going to the dentist every 6 months where I previously lived and I kept telling them I only needed a tooth filled because my filling cracked, but they insisted. Then a guy came around to "check my gums" with a tool and gave me an entire sales pitch on how I have periodontal disease. I would need scaling and plaining ($850). What really made me suspicious was when he gave the exact same pitch to the young guy in the next room over. Exact same words and he wasn't the dentist. Then a different guy came in (the dentist) to tell me that they couldn't do any repair to my fillings UNTIL I had a scaling & plaining ($850 procedure). And that would also be 2 separate visits before they could fill my tooth. After being in there 2 hours, I got nothing fixed, nothing done except endless x-rays and a sales pitch, and felt extremely suspicious of the diagnoses. I went for a second opinion somewhere else the next day and I was assured, I DO NOT have periodontal disease. I was able to get a filling that day to fix the one that cracked. They did not have to scale and plane my gums. As a matter of fact, he said I have relatively healthy gums. To top it off, I got a bill from Aspen for $59 for part of the endless x-rays and scans that my insurance didn't cover. I'm sure that was part of the plan. So, nothing done and a $59 bill to boot! I scheduled a simple cleaning. I was called 2 days laters, letting me know that the office manager would review my financing options. I asked, "I'm just getting a cleaning. Why would I need a financing plan when I have insurance?" The young lady couldn't give me an answer. The day of the 'cleaning,' I spent an hour or more in the office for scans, x-rays, etc. After all that time, the doctor says, "She'll clean you if she has time today, but first the office manager wishes to review things with you." I speak with the office manager. She states that I need a deeper clean, which will cost approximately $1,000 since insurance doesn't cover it until next year. I politely declined, and I asked about my cleaning. She responded, "We can't clean your teeth since you're not choosing the more extensive program." My role with my former company concluded early the previous month. So, I didn't have an active, recurring income. I also shared that I have a surgery planned. The dentist shared, "If I did the cleaning, it would be doing a disservice to you." Ma'am, the disservice was your the shady business dealing of how the office is ran. It was more of a sales program than any kind of care for the patient. Why not disclose the process at the outset so I could decided whether or not I wanted to sit for an hour, knowing that I may or may not receive the cleaning I asked for. The dentist also referenced insurance codes. That was telling; it had nothing to do with my care. It had to do with what you could collect and for how much. I am sure I will get the deeper cleaning treatment, but I lost all trust in Aspen, as this seems to be more about commerce than patient care. I took out loan for $4,275.40. (That was around how much CareCredit would loan me.) Aspen dental told me that would be the TOTAL cost for me to get my teeth fixed. I received a bill in the mail for 174. I asked for an itemized bill. The "$19 first appointment cost" they advertise; I was charged $78. I called costumer satisfaction and talked to Jackie. She called and Dr Reddick and Cassie from the billing department said they would NOT HONOR the $19 advertised price. They also charged me an extra $125 lab fee that was not on my original bill. Even though with every visit I asked if any thing they were going to do would change the total cost of my bill and each time both Reddick and Cassie promised me my bill would remain the same; they lied. I honestly am super disappointed over them not honoring the ADVERTISED $19 fee for the first appointment. Everyone should know that Aspen Dental on Charlotte does not honor the prices they tell you in the beginning or their advertised prices. I have suggested Aspen to several people, but now I will be finding a new dentist and so will my friends and family. I added photos. In a nut shell, they told him it would be $1200 for a deep cleaning because "they would have to get into the gums" (he brushes and flosses every day, so wtf). The real joke was him walking out of there having been told he needed a crown ($1800) and 3 cavities filled ($200). So one visit would theoretically have cost him $3600. He went for a second opinion like any person with an IQ above 3 would do, and came back with the new verdict. This money they claim I owed was added to my account because they had another dentist to do my work instead of the one that was supposed to but she was busy.I made sure that everyone that was involved in my dental work was in network.But the dentist that took the place of the original was not in network.He was the only dentist out of all that worked there that wasn't in network so he worked at a different rate of pay..So it has been over a year I do not have any teeth.. I read Aspen Dental had a $799 special for a crown. My DDS charged over $1,200, so I thought this is great ... I'll be saving over $400. I had a root canal 2 weeks earlier and the endodontist prepared a "bed" for the crown. Should be easy, right? The DDS at Aspen, although very sweet and has nothing to do with billing, suggested I not get the "special", but a better made crown. They wanted my records from my dentist and wanted to make sure my gums were "ready" for the crown, among other things, all for the SAME amount as my DDS. I got up and left right then and there. The $799 special was false and deceptive advertising. I urge anyone who is reading this to NOT be fooled by their baiting. You've been warned. read more

The staff is amazing. They are very friendly and make you feel comfortable. The dentist explained everything to me that he was going to do. The only draw back is you have to pay upfront for the services and that can get pricey. Sometimes they will charge you for things you don't need, like an electric toothbrush , toothpaste and mouthwash, but if you don't want, they will take it off for you without a problem. So they told me that I need a root canal, but that it required a deep cleaning in the area prior to the procedure. So I go in they give me this ridiculously painful injections to deaden the area first, they hurt so much I cried. Then, the gal does this 90 second "deep cleaning" and I am left with a dead mouth for hours and pain following the deadening agent wearing off. Then a two days later I get a phone call from Aspen Dental stating that they cannot do the root canal because of the tooth location. So I was put through this ridiculous procedure for no reason what so ever!!!! And a big bill on top of that. I wish I could provide two separate reviews for Aspen dental off Charlotte Pike. My experience with two different dentists there and a couple of hygienist was awesome. They are very kind, considerate, caring and very willing to explain everything that I needed. My issue with them has to do with the front office people and what seems to be their convoluted business model. I have been to several dentists in my life in a couple of different states and I have never before been asked to sign something agreeing to future care. When I was uncomfortable with signing a paper promising to come in to get certain services in the future I was given a wretched attitude from the front office person and as it got escalated to the office manager, I received the same horrible attitude. I was told that corporate dentistry always does business that way and maybe that is the case. I learned never to deal with another corporate dental office again. On top of that, they tried to charge me a second time for a fluoride treatment that I had refused and then argued with me and essentially called me a liar when I told them that I had refused it the first time. Went today for a regular cleaning which is 100% covered by insurance. That's the last thing I got. They have a very sketchy way of doing business.. They added an electronic toothbrush worth $130, then other treatments not covered by insurance such as Gum Treatments, without my approval. I went to look on other websites for their reviews and there are several red flags on their practice. Dentists are excellent people but, as for the business practices, I am not very convinced they have the patients interest in mind. I will be going to other dentists for a second opinion. read more

I have been receiving dunning letters from a credit agency for $23 which I do not intend to pay no matter what. Don't be fooled by the $19 X-Rays and Assessment. I was in between insurance policies and had a filling come out. It was the first time I was uninsured and used google to find an affordable option to get a quick assessment and fix. At first it was heartwarming to believe there is a dentist who helps low income and uninsured get care - I was naive. My first appointment was X-Rays and Assessment. I go to the dentist regularly so was surprised to hear from them I had a three new cavities that needed attention and was presented an estimate of over $600 even with their "coupon" discount. I explained I was not prepared to spend that much due to Covid-19 underemployment and that I would like to simply get the cavity that fell out taken care of. I was told that it was required to get the $86 cleaning on top of the $228 filling. I tried multiple times to talk to the office before coming in for my follow up appointment about the work I would like to put off until another date, but no one ever got back to me and I continued to get their voicemail when I called. I even emailed with the office manager who was responsive, until it came to negotiating my care. Once I started to write him about the cost of the care with questions about urgency, etc, I never heard back. I showed up the morning for my filling and surprised the dentist when I kept having to repeat that I only wanted one tooth addressed today - they still had a full order for everything despite calling and leaving messages and emailing to give them a heads up in advance. I got the cleaning and then waited over an hour numbed up for a dentist to fill the tooth. The order was still confusing and luckily the dentist asked before starting work otherwise the wrong tooth would have been worked on. Two weeks later the filling they had done started to feel weird, then started to ache. I emailed office manager to ask their policy on redoing the filling if it had failed. He responded without a policy and for me to call the office. I played phone tag for days. Finally I connected with a woman who asked me when I was available to come in. I paused and told her before I commit to coming back in I wanted to understand their payment policy as I did not want to pay them another. $200+ to redo the filling. I wanted assurance that I would not be taken advantage of. We spoke in circles for several minutes, landing on the statement that there is no policy and that I would just need to come in and see. I understand that if for some reason the service needed was different that I would need to pay for that but it seemed weird to me that there is not a policy for services rendered that fail within such a short period of time. I wanted to know what to expect and she could not help me trust this dentist and so I sought another opinion elsewhere. I went to a new dentist and got new Xrays, a new cleaning, and assessment. Turns out that the filling does need to be redone - something was not done correctly, the cleaning was not done well, and those other cavities Aspen told me I needed weren't even detected! I would have spent another $400+ getting cavities treated that weren't necessary! Furthermore, beware of their out of pocket pricing. The same tooth out of pocket at a different non-chain dentist with a good, longstanding reputation is $160 compare to $228. Aspen Dental is not the quality low cost healthcare I was naive to believe. Do not get treatment here - take the time to make a few more phone calls to get out of pocket pricing and read reviews. This office has an F on BBB. I even emailed the manager to request to settle this dispute directly and he told me that email is a bad way to get a hold of him and call. He had the time to read my email and respond to call. I am not playing phone tag and talking in circles any longer with this office. I advised I have nothing else to add other than what is in the email and I am requesting that he provide refund for the faulty work so we can move forward. I am not sure why someone can read the email and respond without an answer, instead a statement to call. We could have been done with all this already if he simply could email me a response with policy and/or resolution. Customer service here is a joke and I am done playing phone tag.
