Unfortunately my prior dentist went out of network from my insurance, so I was looking to find a new dentist. I called to schedule a 6 month cleaning with Aspen Dental and they informed me that I would need to have a consultation before I could schedule my cleaning, but they offer the cleaning service and hopefully I could do it in the same visit. When I arrived and went through the consultation the staff were very accommodating. At the end of the consultation they said I would need a deep cleaning and they would put me on a schedule to come in periodically for additional follow-up. I informed them that I would like to think about doing it next time, but just wanted to do my 6 month normal cleaning now, as it is covered by my insurance and financially I would prefer to hold off until my next visit. When I suggested that, they refused to let me get my cleaning because it wasn't part of their "plan". I left the office without making any commitment. I tried calling to schedule it later and once again I was denied. They were not willing to work with me. Additionally, I was told by 2 people on the phone when making my appointment that my insurance would fully cover the consultation, so when I eventually received my bill a few days ago, I wasn't happy that they took more imaging than my insurance allowed and had an outstanding balance of $24.00. I know it is not a lot of money, but the fact that I was lied to about being able to get my 6 month cleaning and that my visit would be fully covered by insurance was unacceptable to me. I had an appointment with their oral surgeon for 3 extractions. My appointment was at 12:30pm. They called to push it about 45 minutes. They then called and asked me to come for my appointment at 3:30pm. Once there I sat and waited again. At 4:00pm they called back another patient who was scheduled at 1:30pm. After questioning, they confirmed they had rescheduled my appointment and he was before me. POOR BUSINESS PRACTICE. I was told this was the directive from the surgeon and I would be called after that patient's procedure. This would be another hour or so. UNACCEPTABLE. They play with people's well-being and sanity. This was a fasting procedure. Needless to say, I followed protocol and hadn't eaten. This was the last straw! I demanded reimbursement for the prepaid visit and left without it being done. I now continue to be in dental pain and have to start over elsewhere. Unless I wanted to wait another month to see this surgeon. This practice does not know how to prioritize or follow standard patient protocol. Not even to mention that the technician that took back the 1:30pm appointment informed us of a procedure she had to do with him. HIPPA VIOLATION. Zero patience, I was supposed to have two teeth extracted but after so much pain starting from the anesthesia shots I felt I had to stop the dentist from proceeding to extract the second tooth. This dentist at Skokie branch I felt she was rushing to go somewhere or simply was trying to make as many hundred of dollars per hour as possible. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! Let me start off that the staff here is SUPER friendly. There is nothing wrong with the staff. But please read before you go. I am a health care provider and I know when a place is SCAMMING you. This place WILL scam you. This is what you will go through from start to finish. You will be brought to take xrays in a booth, after they will seat you in an exam room, go over your xrays with you by a doctor. After your xray and exam/consultation with the doctor, you will be brought to a "Buisness room" (this is totally unethical from any dental practice), a nice lady will sit you down and talk about "pricing" I was diagnosed with gingivitis and told I needed a deeper cleaning. But the deeper cleaning isn't covered by my insurance. So she went over the pricing (PLEASE LOOK AT MY ATTACHED PHOTO). Basically I needed to pay $208 for a deep cleaning. AS a healthcare provider myself, my plan covers 100% preventative. Alright fine, my plan doesn't cover "deep cleaning" So my curiosity got me and i paid the $208 to see what this deep cleaning is all about. I paid. Then the lady said they have to schedule a cleaning with a hygienist for another date. When was the last time you been to the dentist and not a cleaning the SAME DAY?!?! The staff was super nice, they squeezed me in. The dental hygienist was super nice. But there was nothing deep about the cleaning, it was the same cleaning I've been getting for the past 10 years. The only reason I changed is because this place is opened late and sometimes I dont get home until 6pm. Look at my photos,, they will try to charge you $41 for Chlorhexidine (Which they did not explain was just a fancy MOUTH WASH). Please call other dental offices, they normally charge $5-7 for Chlorhexidine mouth wash. Also they charged $40 for neutral sod gel. Look it up, its not worth $40. I also asked if I could get a copy of my digital xrays. They said it takes 3-4 weeks to process. In the end I got a second opinion from a NONcorporate dentist, who I shared my story. He laughed and didn't charge me for consult nor didn't charge me for another set of xrays, because Aspen only gave me photocopies. REMEMBER. This place is a CORPORATION, and they mark up all the prices. I do not understand how this place is still in business. I am only writing this to help other people out, I can careless about the money. Aspen Dental was my choice since they were a chain with an ok reputation. It was the best decision I could of made. The people are friendly but it's the scheduling and billing that made my experience a disaster. Scheduling - They called me up the night before asking if I can come in an hour early and I said yes. They took me in on time for my cleaning but made me wait an HOUR for the dentist to do my fill in. Why even take me in early if I was going to wait in a chair for an hour. Billing - During the cleaning they gave me a free sample of the toothpaste I purchased for $30 so I asked them if I can take the toothpaste off my bill which I've already paid for before service. They made me wait in a room for 15mins and someone told me the $30 was taken off my bill. Days passed no credit to my bill. I gave them a call and they said there was no record of the credit but they will credit me in 5-10 business days. 10 days passed and yet no credit, I gave them another call and they told me something went wrong with insurance and they will put a note in for me. Another 10 days passed when I called them and they said the credit is on my account but it's not disbursed. So the receptionist who took my call who was really nice pushed that credit through. Now by balance is '0' and I got my credit. Again people there are nice and Meme (I think that's her name) got my account fixed but it took 2 months for my credit and I had to set reminders on my calendar to all ASPEN for my credit. Avoid this place. My appointment took 3 hours. Yes I was a new patient but came in 30 minutes early to do paper work. 30 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start they called me in. I then got xrays and got put in another waiting room. After a long process of my teeth being looked at, the doctor finally came in. So was more into telling me way my teeth have broken and how I need invisaline, than worrying about my two broken teeth I really need fixed. I then sat in that chair for 30 minutes alone until they called me to the payment area. She then said I need to come in for another appointment for a deep clean and then set up another 1-2 appointments to fix my broken teeth. Cleaning and xrays should be done the same day. And they should have been more concerned about my two broken teeth. I did however like the lady at the payment center. She could see I was upset and couldn't afford this. Who knew one could be happy and irritated all at the same time? It literally took almost 3 hours for me to get a simple cleaning done. However, the worst was all the different layers of people that you need to speak to in order to finally get to the Dentist. I felt like the people including the dentist (Dr.Sharma) were acting like a used car salesman. They told me I had a couple cavities and that I should probably consider getting a root canal instead of just getting the cavities filled. Stay away from this business. In Mid-November I had a bridge fall out in my mouth-lower right quadrant. My insurance sent me to Aspen Dental to have the bridge re-cemented. I came in on November 15th early afternoon and within an hour I had been told my bridge was unusable due to cavities, I needed surgery to remove almost ALL of my teeth. I was fitted for dentures and surgery was scheduled for the next week. I then signed something which turned out to be a contract and left. On the way out I was handed a bag which I thought were samples. It turned out it was not and I was charged $256.00 for this unasked-for bag. The moment I walked out of the office they sent charges for $7152 to Synchrony Care Credit. My only excuse is that I was exhausted, but did wake up to cancel the surgery to ask for a second opinion. My previous dentist (who did not take my insurance) recemented the bridge for $450.00. I returned the bag of nonsamples 12/15, and the charge still to this day has not been removed, even though I asked for it to be. My total was reduced to $1971 for an office visit and deep cleaning. I was charged for treatment of periodontal disease even though no prior dentist EVER told me I had this, AND I have no symptoms. STAY AWAY FROM THEM! This business will scam you, with inflated prices. read more

I am very disappointed with the quality of dentures I received. I had three impressions and three sets of partials made and all three were defective in one way or another. The last partial received had white translucent vertical lines running throughout the teeth. Very noticable. I was told it was a normal occurrence... I have never seen translucent lines running through dentures... I am very embrassed to smile as these are my front teeth Staff is friendly and courteous. Quality of work is poor. First off, this is a MUST READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH. Generally, I extremely hate the dentist and hate needles even more. I went in to get 2 root canals done at the same time and was extremely nervous. Going in for my first time in over 2 and a half years, I worried mostly about the pain and all the other stuff I really dislike about the process. I met with the oral specialist Dr. Misha Mehta and Dental assistant Joey. Nice for those guys are understatements. The made me feel at ease and even played music to relax my nerves. We listened to drake as well as my own music during the entire process. When it came time to get the numbing shot, they had me close my eyes and it the pain was barely felt. Again, I hate needles with a passion and freaked a little when I seen it but they comforted me and I barely felt the needle at all. Also, I always need extra numbing and they made sure I couldn't feel a thing. By the time the root canals started, my face was so numb I could feel it in my eye lids lol. That's how it's supposed to be. NO PAIN felt at all. They talked with me and made me really feel at home and that the cared, which to me is just as important as the quality of the work. In addition, for the first time ever she let me hold the sucker, so whenever I felt like I was drowning in my own saliva I was able to take care of it myself. That was a game changer. It took about 45mins per root canal and before I knew It they were finished. In conclusion, this was by far the best dental visit I've ever had. I have terrible teeth and visited over 20 dental offices in my life and I've never been more satisfied about an experience. I've read a few reviews where folks said the Dr. was rude or they felt they were being "sold" on other service, my experience couldn't be further from that. Got a deep cleaning done here. Honestly it sort of feels like you're getting pushed through the whole process. They presented me a cost of the total of the procedure and had me pay 50% up front and then 50% after the procedure. Which is kind of weird but fine. After the procedure a couple months pass and I get a bill for a couple hundred bucks more. They said there was a frequency limit and that even though they spoke with my insurance company prior to the procedure they failed to mention it and that it is my responsibility for their oversight. The billing lady said I owe and so I said fine I'll pay and cancelled my future appointment. She then hung up on me. Classy... Not going to be returning. I scheduled an emergency appointment to repair a crown that came off a molar. I explained numerous times that I have severe dental phobia. I was not told until I saw the dentist that the office does not sedate patients. I should have been allowed to leave then. The hygenist in training suggested wrongly that the previous dentist I saw had fraudulently claimed all of the work he did was permanent, which I found to be a pretty terrible tactic to upsell me. When I explained to the hygenist that I had dental phobia and asked that she not poke my gums she said, "that's what happens at a dentist's office," and then proceeded to talk to me like a 5-year-old. I also told her I would not agree to root scaling without sedation and she rolled her eyes at me. The dentist seemed to understand my anxiety and concern about sedation and said I should schedule a follow-up and she would prescribe something for me, but then sent me to the business manager's office. None of the conversation was relayed to the business manager who began by telling me she was scheduling me for root scaling and work on four cavities and that we should talk about repairing all of the temporary work in my mouth. That is when I left more sore and anxious than when I walked in the door. I will not be back and they should really be ashamed of how patients are treated while they are in pain. I still don't have a crown on my molar, but I'd rather stay in pain and find a caring dentist than suffer more at that office. read more

I waited 2 hours in various rooms. I finally got fed up waiting and complained very loud for the long wait then they took me to the sales pitch lady. I was told a deep cleaning for my gum inflammation would cost almost $3,000 but I was fortunate enough to get an"discount" bringing my deep cleaning down almost $1,000. They tried to sell me a new oral b toothbrush which I already have for $130.00. I did purchase the mouthwash and toothpaste for $60.00 available on Amazon for half the price. Wish I had read some reviews before going.... Needed a basic cleaning - which of course turns into a sales pitch on a serious deep cleaning. Since I had not been to the dentist in some time, I was willing to get caught up. After the initial diagnosis, I was seated in the office with my insurance provider who went ahead and walked me through the entire list of procedures and pricing, totaling approx $2500. I agreed and paid in full over two payments, once after getting my right side done and the second payment after the left side was completed. Strange enough - within weeks, I received a bill for an additional $330. The following week that bill was re-sent and updated to $660. Remind you this is after having the charges reviewed by my insurance provider and having to sign off on the list of work to be done. Since November, I started to call 1x month to have the charges explained. Each time, a different member assured me that the charges weren't accurate - 1 employee stated it should be $200 and then another said around $280. After each conversation I was promised an email or a phone call after they would reach out to the "regional manager" for more information. And each time they never called or emailed me back. In April, my bill was passed to collections despite constant communication on my end. Over the past two months I've called approximately 10x and all with the same spiel - call you back later today or tomorrow and never, ever a followup.... 10x and not one call back. Today I settled to pay $330. Shame on them, as I feel so ripped off. Dentists continue to be an overpriced sales pitch and scam, and Aspen falls right in line with the rest of em. They are a private equity owned practice. For those of you that don't know what private equity is; it is basically a group of very rich investors that put their money in a fund, that fund then goes out and purchases businesses, holds them for a few years in order to increase profits, and eventually sells them. Think of what home flippers do but instead of homes, they buy businesses. I would recommend any patient to visit a dentist that owns his/her own practice because he/she will be in business for the long term not to make a quick buck. Also if the practice is run by a dentist, he/she will be making patient decisions, not an MBA sitting in a New York office. Google private equity firms. They have been called the vulture capitalists. I used to be an accounting advisor to these firms when I worked at PwC so I'm very familiar with them. Buyer beware. read more

If I reviewed Aspen on my first visit it would have been a 5 star review. The exam was the most thorough I have ever had. Staff was polite , professional and explained things clearly . I was in pain with a lost filling and cracked tooth. I needed this taken care of. Because the exam took 90 minutes, I needed to get to work. This meant having to call back to discuss financials and schedule with an endodontist . I have made seven phone calls in the past 10 days. Each promising I would get a call back. Still in pain. Very poor service I honestly can't believe how awful of dentist office that was. They only care about billing patients and not the care of the service. The office manager told me they like to make sure they charge me for the service before getting my procedures so I don't have to deal with after which seem questionable since who knows if the procedure will be done correctly. I paid to get my wisdom tooth removed and after two weeks I got another bill which makes no sense to me for $544 dollars. Absolutely amazing staff, after going to get a second opinion I discovered I would have to go to two additional specialists and it would even end up being more expensive then having it all done through Aspen. The Original cost was concerning for treatment however after insurance took effect it quickly turned into a manageable cost.
