Warning: Aspen Dental might push unnecessary treatments! I was told I needed a deep cleaning costing thousands before proceeding with any treatment. I got a second opinion and luckily didn't need the deep cleaning and my gums are in perfect health. The front desk experience was horrible, especially with Linda. She's rude, disrespectful, and gives people a runaround. When I requested my X-rays, she disrespected me and made the process difficult. My visit to Aspen Dental was the weirdest dental visit in all my life. This was the first time I actually had to get out of the chair and leave in the middle of my visit to a dentist. Just one example was then I was told my permanent dentures were ready, They took out my temporary denture and went to get my permanent ones. Unbelievably, when they returned they handed me (are you ready for this) my temporary denture telling me this was the permanent one! I asked them "what the hell are these?" at which point he disappeared for a and did nothing but cut some of the plastic spacing between teeth. I have a cracked tooth and needed an extraction. Unfortunately I was in so much pain, I couldn't wait, so I looked round the internet and came across Aspen Dental (Friday). Their website stated simple extraction would normally start at $200 but for limited time offer, it would start at $160. Fortunately, they had opening on same day at 3:15 pm. I was 20 minutes early for new patient paper work and got everything started, with x ray and Dental Hygienist consultation and was told that the dentist (Dr.) will be right in. Waited over an hour and after examination, he determined that I needed an extraction (that was the reason) BUT needed to reschedule for the procedure because they are about to close. There was nothing I could do so I agreed and only opening was on following Monday. Next, I was introduced to someone from financial department and wanted to go over the payment. He acted very polite and friendly in the beginning while taking me back to his desk. After all is said and done, he gave me a quote of over $900 for simple extraction. Some how the dentist forgot to mention I needed other procedures. The quote came because the extraction was $340 (but he was helping me out by give me $80 discount) but added $495 for "bone grafting" (oh, this was another break because the original procedure of tooth extraction of my kind would have costs over $1100). I doubted the second procedure and refused but would make an appointment for just an extraction (he got cold really quick) and ask me to pay either full or partial to make an appointment. Well, I'm in pain, so I paid ($255 - full) and waiting to see on Monday. There are reviews on Yelp.com that many stated "bait and switch" and should have done better research but when you are in pain, you trust those who advertise to help... lesson learned and any of you out there, do your research but don't trust this place. read more

This happiness and relief crashed to the ground as I encountered one a**hole after another, capping it off with Dr. Lee, who mumbled, used words I didn't understand ("these these are together, or not": what does that mean?), argued with me about my dental history, and then of course, gave me an "estimate" of $8,000 for a deep cleaning ($2,000) and a bridge (that I have no idea why I need due to the mumbling explanation). This is the worst dental care experience I've had in my 63 years on this earth. I went in to have a lower denture replaced with an upfront 1/2 cost of $750 out of pocket which was fine where I was under the care of a nice female dentist. After the denture was ready, I came into the office for fitting, paid my remaining $750, and was taken in the back when a male dentist, who I'd never seen before, Dr L, didn't even introduce himself. After looking at my chart, the first words out of his mouth were "Here's the problem..." He proceeded to tell my how uneven my posts were and that he could start today to correct. Well, I was there to get my denture, have it fitted and leave. End of story. When asked how much all of this new work would cost, his response was that it more important to get my dentures fixed. It's my money, I needed a price. He became agitated and stated the rings to fit my denture were misplaced, stating the email dentist I saw at first, had a family emergency and it was unclear when she'd return but he'd "get them from her and will be ready tomorrow." The next day I returned, the same Dr. L said he needed me to sign a waiver if he was going to put the dentures in as-is, I asked why I should do so. He became agitated and hostile, especially when I told him I didn't appreciate getting "shaken down" for additional dental work that I was not planning for, nor wanted. After he used the f-word, he threatened to throw the denture at me and things got to the point where I had to warn this dentist "If you assault me, I will be forced to defend myself." Out of exasperated, I said "Son of a bitch!" over the situation because I couldn't believe this was happening. It was surreal. Of course, he told the office manager, who was no help, that I cursed at him while conveniently forgetting his foul mouth and hideously horrible demeanor. Dr. L threatened to keep the denture and just give me a refund, which I declined because I had no bottom teeth. Finally, I ended up having to take the denture from his hand and told him that I'd get this done myself and that all I wanted to do was leave and never come back. I also asked when the first female dentist would return and was told, that she resigned and was not coming back. As I found out later, this was a lie. She's still there. I've filed complaints with the BBB (of which Aspen Dental has an "F" rating) and the Arizona Dentistry Board. I did have a different dentist fit them in nicely, but it cost me an additional $720. I was contacted by a man named "Rene,' who called me while I was at work and left a message suggesting a possible refund. I did call him back but have gotten no response. I have left voice mail messages with him three times over the last month, the most recent being yesterday, 2/14/2024. So now I'm out over $2200. Aspen never did finish the job for which I paid in full. I don't know if the female dentist I had who had a "family emergency" so I can see this Dr. L was a set up to try to extract more money from me, but this was the worst I've been ever treated by ANY medical staff. Best dental experience I've had in years! The whole crew at the wilmot Rd facility in Tucson Az is very professional and friendly. Jon, the dentist is exceptional at his craft. I had 17 teeth pulled to be fitted for upper and lower dentures. I never felt one ounce of pain. They give you a sedative and pain medicine. It was amazing that I didn't feel a thing. I have my temporary teeth in right now and they adjust the fitting as the gums heal. I will be getting two implants on my lowers so that my dentures stay in place. I'm looking forward to having my completed dentures in a couple of months. If you're on the fence about this place don't be..they are great!! Oh, and Maria the dental assistant is wonderful! I was suffering from a very painful and infected tooth. I had an appointment with another dentist, but I would have to wait a few days until I could be seen. I couldn't take the pain any longer and was all but hopeless until I called Aspen Dental to see if they can do same day emergency work. The woman I spoke to said they would be able to fit me in that same morning. I don't have dental coverage but I was told my exam and X-rays would be free! The dental assistants explained what the issue is and what the dentist can do. When the dentist came in, he gave a thorough exam and let me know what work needed to be done. I had a very bad infection involving a large absinthe that needed to be drained. My tooth also needed to be removed. He understood how afraid I was about the pain and assured me that I wouldn't feel the work being done. After some novocaine was injected, he began his work. I felt no pain and was amazed that he drained the sac and pulled the tooth so quickly! Yes it was a bit expensive, but I am now free of pain and can sleep! Great people, great doctor! I was absolutely appalled at the service that I received today. Everything was Fine until they got to the point where the Dentist came in. He was incredibly tactless. Very harsh and not warm. Instead of talking about positive things everything was negative. He spent about 30 seconds poking around in my mouth. And his diagnosis was that I have gingivitis. He said the same thing about my daughter. So when my daughter had the treatment I didn't think anything of it. But when they said the same exact thing to me lightbulb went off my head that this is how they make extra money. But what made it worse was they made you feel bad about not wanting to get their gingivitis treatment. They told me don't you care about your teeth and don't you want to have nice teeth when you get older.And sadly all it is is a cleaning. But they give it some fancy name that makes it seem more important than it really actually is. And the worst part is I called another dentist to switch because I was so upset and asked them do you charge to clean teeth ? They said no it's included with your visit by your insurance. I went to this office with an emergency -- broken tooth -- that required a crown. The office staff and the dental professionals were all very courteous and I felt I was in good hands. Now, 10 months later, I have seen my regular dentist, who told me that the crown is the wrong size, leaving too much space between the teeth, and I have now developed a 7-8 mm pocket in the gum I did not have before. It affects the health of the tooth with the crown and the adjacent tooth. Today I needed antibiotics to treat an infection in that pocket, and unless I get a new crown, this will be an ongoing problem. I will need more frequent cleanings and will have to do special daily cleaning of that pocket to prevent future infection -- or, worse, loss of both affected teeth. I'm very disappointed. read more

I had a dental cleaning and was told that it didn't require a deep cleaning. I was told it would be a regular cleaning. Nearly 6 months later they tried to bill my insurance for a deep cleaning. I contacted them and explained the situation. Later I get a call back saying that it wasn't a regular cleaning, it was a peridontal cleaning. Well why didn't you charge me before I walked out the door! The last time I had one of those cleanings I had to pay before it was even done! Why didn't you bill me 1 month later, 2 months later, 3,4,5?! I only got billed a week before my next appointment (which needed to be rescheduled by aspen dental............ like always!) so I would walk into my appointment like a sucka and hand over an extra $125 for a service I didn't receive! The only reason I figured it out beforehand was because my insurance emailed me advising a new explanation of benefits was available. I thought I was a victim of fraud! I hadn't used that insurance for nearly half a year! Not to mention every time I go in there I pay $43 for my fluoride treatment UP FRONT. Then they always try to bill my insurance $53 for it anyway. We both knew it wasn't covered. That's why I paid up front! It gets denied, then they always send a bill for the extra $10! You should have just charged it up front! He was Asian and could barely understand his accent but then made some pretty inappropriate comments about my medications and medical condition them proceeded to say he was just judgemental and explained it away. This place was a joke! The dentist recommended that I have a 4 quad scale and root planing without ever picking up a dental tool or ever even looking at my X-rays or in my mouth! I was a dental hygienist for 5 years and that is unheard of. A dentist should always look at gum tissue, plaque/tartar build up, dental pockets, etc before determining the best treatment. STAY AWAY FROM ASPEN DENTAL! The staff at the Wilmot store is excellent but the dentist is appalling. I went there to get a broken tooth pulled, and the dentist pulled the wrong tooth. When I left a message on his answering machine he called me at home very early the next morning, screaming at me. I have been charged over $200 dollars and I still have the broken tooth. The dentist refuses to admit his mistake or to rectify it - even though I told him I was willing to call it a misunderstanding and move on. I was willing to allow him to simply pull the correct tooth at no charge and call it quits. He told me I needed to write him a letter of apology, and that I was what was wrong with medicine today. The guy is unhinged.. Also, I was told that my insurance refused to pay for X-rays and that I had to put them on my credit card. I have contacted my insurance and they say that they have not received an invoice and that they do not refuse coverage without one. They also told me my x-rays were covered. My husband went in to have a tooth looked at that had an infection. He could not open his mouth very wide for the xrays so the dentist put him on antibiotics for a week. Went back in and they did xrays and told him 4 root canals and crowns were going to cost $ 7000.00. In the mean time I broke my top denture so he said call them and I did and explained that I needed a Saturday appointment as our special needs daughter had had a hip surgery and could not be left alone and the weekend he is home all day (I have very limited help with her thru the week). This place is an absolute SCAM!! I went in here just to get a cap that had fallen out replaced, and left with... gum disease? I had a crown fall out a few nights prior and did a quick google search to find an emergency dentist in Tucson that could see me on short notice, and Aspen Dental popped up. So I call and make an appointment, go in, and it was one of the worst experiences of my entire life at the dentist's office. I'm not someone who is usually scared of the dentist, and rather enjoy getting my teeth cleaned, but the way the techs treated me left me absolutely miserable and tender. They start off by doing the most rough and invasive x-ray procedure- at one point the tech is literally shoving the bit in my mouth and yelling at me to quit moving my tongue, with little to no regard that I have a sensitive exposed crown that she's smacking around with the x-ray camera. It was utterly ridiculous. Then you're led into a room where they do EVEN MORE X-RAYS but then send in a dental hygienist. There's a bunch of flashy technology involved and jargon used that the average person would not understand whatsoever. Mind you, I didn't go there to get my teeth cleaned- I needed my crown glued back on so I can start eating again. Then the dental hygienist probes you some more just to sit back and tell you you're well into heavy stages of periodontal disease. When I hear this I'm shocked. 9 months ago at my last dentist all was fine and well! They then suggest for you to do an outrageously expensive complete root and scaling procedure, and then the hygienist slinks away without even offering really any explanation. Finally, the dentist walks in, looked at my mouth for ten seconds said "ah, yeah, you do need a new crown!" and walked out. They also said they would not replace my crown without this deep gum cleaning procedure done first. I'm so absolutely confused at this point I don't even know what to do. I'm then sent to speak with office management to discuss payment for the procedures if I do decide to schedule. At this point I've been in the office for upwards of two hours, and not one productive thing has happened. My paperwork is printed out, and the root and scaling procedure isn't fully covered by insurance and comes out to be $1300 out of pocket! With insurance! I'm then sent home without even a tooth brush, just a packet with a bunch of credit-wrecking payment plans for this infamous root and scaling procedure, and absolutely terrified I have gum disease. I was so stressed out by the way I was treated in the office that I cried in the car. I'm a grown woman. They didn't do anything for my crown! However, I'm feeling kind of weird about this whole thing a few hours later and do a quick google search of "Aspen Dental Periodontal Disease Scam"- and find that strong arming desperate patients into this procedure is common at almost every location! I am appalled at how unprofessional and money hungry the staff was. I got a second opinion and found out that no, I do not have gum disease, nor do I need root and scaling. I had to switch dentists under my new dental plan and Aspen Dental seemed like it had good hours and payment plans for work that my insurance doesn't cover. My first visit consisted of x-rays and an initial exam. During the exam the dentist pointed out everything he thought needed work, including removing all my current fillings and replace them with newer ones and crowns, which seemed odd as I wasn't having any pain or complications with my current fillings. No cleaning was offered on my first visit, so I went to check out after the appointment and was given a $7000 list of procedures that needed done, $3000 of which was not covered by my insurance. At check out I was asked if I had set aside money to cover my portion and I said I hadn't as I didn't think I needed that much work. She asked if I was familiar with Care Credit, which I was but I wasn't interested in opening a credit account with them, so she said, "Let me check one other option", which I foolishly thought she meant she would check if Aspen Dental would allow me to make payments on my what I would owe. After a few questions and signatures, she told me that I was approved for enough to cover my portion...from Care Credit. I explained I didn't want to open an account, to which she apologized but said they had already approved it and I would have to close it with them myself. I left and once home I started looking over my itemized list they provided and found some disturbing things. The first was they had included an electric toothbrush that I wasn't asked if I wanted nor told they were adding to my account. The list also stated that two of my build up fillings would be replaced with new build ups "with pins". The dentist told me during the visit those build ups needed to be replaced because "they didn't use pins any longer", but the itemization clearly stated they would be using pins. Finally, after my visit I found out that even though they had my insurance information, they placed me with a dentist that was not covered by my insurance, resulting in a denied claim. I would avoid this place like the plague if I were you. It's a huge scam and after doing searches online, they have be investigated in the past in other states for performing "unnecessary procedures". read more

But, they charged me the wrong amount multiple times, showed me a bill of over $600 for a procedure I had paid off 5 months prior and COULD NOT EXPLAIN what it was for. They sent me a reminder to come in a month before my 6 months so my insurance wouldn't cover it when I went in. The last time I was there they made me wait for over an hour before telling me the dentist wouldn't be able to see me for my scheduled appointment. I have been a patient at Aspen Dental on Broadway for 2 years. Last year they told me I have a cavity and needed a filling. If I didn't get the filling possible root canal. My dentist also advised me to get skin graphs on my gums. I waited a whole year and thought about my diagnosis. I decided to see a different dentist. Today I went in for my intial examination at my new dentist and they told me I didn't have a cavity and my gums are great and no bleeding during the examination. I was also quoted for a crown (I broke a tooth) and my insurance covers 50% my cost at Aspen dental was $750.00 at my new dentist between $200-$300 after insurance.
