I haven't been to a dentist in many, MANY years. I arrived at the office and was greeted by the front desk staff. They were friendly and welcoming. I was taken back to start treatment and everyone I dealt with was welcoming and more than happy to explain my treatment step by step. I didn't feel like I was a burden asking questions. I expected to have to come back several times due to me needing to get a crown, but they do this all on site. The facility is new, clean and modern. I have already recommended this place too several people. 10/10 already have recommended this pace already and already have my preventive care scheduled. read more

First time here on a friends' recommendation. At first they seemed nice enough. Front desk gals were polite & friendly. Even the one who did my x-rays was fine. It was the dang hygenist CC that was my problem! She was very short with me & did not have a very good "bedside manner" at all!! I told her my situation & how my teeth are very sensitive etc. She rushed through the exam as to make it less painful I guess but it made it worse & she wasn't even listening to me when I made a noise that it hurt. Frustrating and poorly coordinated scheduling. My wife and I both had appointments confirmed by email for 1:00 PM on 8/4/2026 with different hygienists. My confirmation text also correctly said 1:00 PM, and the front desk confirmed my appointment was at 1:00 when we arrived. My wife's email said 1:00 PM, but she received a text at noon saying 2:00 PM. When we got there at 12:45, staff told us her appointment was actually at 2:00 and that there were "two separate appointments starting at two." No clear explanation for why her email and text conflicted, or why the office system didn't match the written confirmation she received. I will never do business with a place that effectively reschedules an appointment an hour before the scheduled time and fails to properly notify the patient. We both left. read more

This is production dentistry. The staff is very nice, but very inexperienced, and there were a lot of problems stain on a tooth which was not recognized as a cavity. I was almost choked to death because of lack of removal of liquids when they were cleaning my teeth, I asked for someone that was very experienced when I asked the woman how long she's been doing it. She had been there less than a week. The person that handled insurance claims refused to tell me even her first name and was very abrupt and rude production dentistry is not a good fit for many people and certainly wasn't for me. I cannot recommend this outfit at all. The dentist himself was very nice and did a good job. The oral surgeon, however, was about as friendly and careful as an alligator. read more

I do not recommend this dental office. I scheduled an annual exam as a new patient since my former dentist is no longer in business. The fact that this office was on the Smile Generation network was encouraging since they would be able to see my past dental history and work performed. After x-rays, Dr Stears told me I need 4 older crowns replaced. Since I have TMJ issues and wear oral appliances, I was concerned about the procedure(s). Their quote after the insurance estimate/payment would still be over $3,500 out of pocket for me...even with a $800 "discount" for donating new kids shoes (cost of $100). My United Healthcare suggested I request a pre-authorization before proceeding with any procedures to verify what "in-network" amounts would be allowed/reimbursed. I felt so uneasy with this office that I cancelled all my upcoming appointments and sought a second opinion (thank goodness) from a dentist also in the Smile network. The new dentist actually took the time to remove some plaque and food appearing in the x-rays (which this office called cavities). He was honest enough to say that I don't need any crowns replaced (nor did my previous dentist for over 7 years suggest it). Beware that this office seems to be recommending unnecessary procedures in order to collect additional money from the patients that insurance does not cover. I just saved myself and UHC insurance over $6,000. Do your homework first and don't be in a hurry with decisions this big (FYI they were ready to replace all 4 crowns the next day even with my TMJ jaw issues). I am visiting family over Christmas in Arizona. I had a crown come off of a dental implant. Made the appointment provided insurance etc and after an X-ray the Dentist told me that it appeared the implant may be loose. I just saw my Dentist recently and it was never mentioned. I just wanted to have a temp put in until I get back to Colorado. He would not do it and he also did not recommend anything except seeing my Dentist I told him that I had this done in 2011 and the Dentist who did the work is now retired. While the visit took a little longer than I'm used to all of the staff were very friendly and took great care of me. It was about 2 hours for my first appointment: taking lots of x rays, checking my gums etc, going over costs then the full cleaning. They gave me all my options and didn't force me into anything and helped me understand my insurance better. I did wait 30 minutes in between the insurance part and the cleaning which was a little long but it went by relatively fast. The cleaning was executed in a smooth manner and the hygienist made sure I was comfortable the whole time. They were very communicative and I appreciated that I could schedule online. Don't ever go here! My husband was told he needed an extraction, an implant, and a new crown. The quoted price was thousands of dollars. They gave him misleading information on how his healthcare insurance would cover the dental expenditures. They also pressured him to have the new crown done right then that day and the extraction done two days later. They didn't take into consideration that he was on blood thinners. We got a second opinion the next day, and we were told he did not need the implant and this dentist took into consideration that he needed to get permission from his cardiologist who said he was to be off the blood thinners for at least three days before he had the extraction. The second dentist will charge us about 15% of what Dentists of Tucson would charge. The second dentist is my regular dentist so I know we trust him. We should have gone to him first! read more

This place is the reason people hate the dentist. It's totally impersonal and they bamboozle you into paying for deep cleanings that you don't want. I waited a whole hour before I was seen. Then, after I received X-rays, I was shoved into a room where I was told that someone would come look at my teeth and let me know if a cleaning would be covered and what my payment options were. I inquired about the cleaning my insurance covered and was told that usually those aren't enough and they could put me on a payment plan. I sat there for another 30 minutes before I decided to leave. I have super-healthy teeth, no cavities, and have never required anything more than a regular cleaning. Without even looking in my mouth, they were grooming me for an expensive treatment. Went for a teeth cleaning covered by my Delta Dental Insurance. Was in the office 2 1/2 hours!! Ended up with an estimate of about $4,000.00 for 3 crowns which Delta Dental would only pay $200.00 per crown. I've used Delta for years and this insurance normally pays a lot more but will not here because Dentists of Tucson use a 1 trip procedure which is NOT covered. I ended up getting talked into a "deeper" cleaning and paid almost $200.00 OUT OF POCKET for my "free" bi-annual teeth cleaning and exam. Of course they have state the of art equipment and very nice examination rooms but TOO EXPENSIVE. These dentists are going to be mulit-millionaires by the time they are 40! read more

I have been a patient of DoT for three years now. I transferred after a nightmare experience at another office and they have taken the best care of me. Lynette is hands down the most incredible hygienist I've ever had and the doctor (I only see him for about five minutes at a time) is wonderful too. I drive over an hour to see them. I finally decided to write a review today because I realized I broke a crown that I had done at my former dentist, who told me it was a lifetime warranty. When I discovered the break, I called them and they told me that they couldn't help me. I called DoT in a panic and because they are in network, Nicole was able to work some magic and I will be able to get my crown fixed, under warranty. If you like spending all day in a dentist office or if you like having to visit your dental office multiple times a day because they can't get a handle on their appointment scheduling system then come to this office. I was told first to arrive at 1pm. Making my plans I was later told to arrive at 11am. Upon dutifully arriving at 11 they then told me, "oh sorry please come at 12.30". Coming back at 12.30 they then tell me "oh sorry, your appointment is at 1pm". When you do eventually get in they keep for there for 2+ hours just for a teeth cleaning. I spend most of my time with the hygienist; therefore, this review is mostly about her. I recommend seeing Carol Justice who goes by CJ. CJ is warm and makes you feel welcome, personable without making you feel obligated to talk. I usually do not like talking too much in this setting, but she actually got me wanting to converse. Unlike many hygienists, she was on point with talking where timing of reply was when something was not crammed in your mouth. Additional to her personality, she was great at x-raying and cleaning. Quick without discomfort. Care was highly exercised. Feels like a good cleaning, she is informative, and knows the practice well. I normally cannot stand going to the dentist, but look forward to my next visit in 6 months. Oh yeah, everyone else. The doctor is always polite when he comes in to check my x-rays and teeth. And the front staff very nice, polite, knows there job well at least I never had to wait for them, and courteous. read more

Went in for an emergency on number three tooth took x-rays. One of the dentist looked at my teeth. And I was told that I would have to come back in two weeks for a root canal still in bad pain. Cannot wait for two weeks. Had to go to another dentist in order to get relief. Would not recommend this dentist service to no one. read more

My wife finally went to the dentist after...maybe 4+ years (omg right!) and she is very happy to be in the care of the Dentist of Tucson. I'm happy with the online scheduling experience and she loved the location (east side)) the inside was clean and professional. Everyone she had contact with treated her fairly, performed the dentle work gently and made sure she understood all that she was agreeing to and needed. Definitely will schedule my own cleaning with these wonderful folks. Now 0 stars for their contracted Root Canal...dr? My wife said he was nice when he first met her but 1) when the assistant tells you a patient is nervous your response shouldn't be "nervous? For what? You have all these piercings you should be fine" 2)when the pain started to affect her, to the point where she was shaking in her chair--Thomas got a little aggressive with her and said to "I don't know why they didn't put her under. We can't have any issues. If we have issues I can't do a good job! Stop moving! We can't have people moving or you will reschedule!" Again, he said these statements AGGRESSIVELY ..how is this appropriate behavior? Where is the empathy? Also, why not test poke and ask if a patient can feel where you are going to start drilling before you ACTUALLY start the root canal. I'm no dentist of course but I've been to the dentist plenty of times where they always 1) make sure you can't feel anything and 2) make sure you are ok listen, we all know dental work can be painful, time consuming and yes Root Canals will hurt but if you (Thomas Cipriano))can't wait until the numbing meds start doing their job then YOU (Thomas Cipriano) should wait to do your job. Or go contract with another practice so you don't taint this practice and their good name. I want to reiterate that the Dentist of Tucson is great. I have had a very positive experience with Dentists of Tucson. After years of working to reverse periodontal issues I had really turned the corner on the condition of my teeth when I had to relocate to Tucson. I went backwards with the first provider I used, as I received very inferior teeth cleanings. Rather than holding or improving my numbers they went backwards which is when I left that provider and with the recommendation of a friend, went to Dentists of Tucson. I have received cleanings from three different hygienists there to date and all have been excellent. I could not be happier with the cleanings I am receiving. My dentist Dr. Stears was encouraging me to get a mouth guard to protect the work I have had done on my teeth to date, as unbeknownst to me, I was grinding. I was reticent for certain reasons but he made me an offer I could not refuse... He said get the mouth guard and wear it every night for 30 days without fail and if you still don't like it you can return it and get a full refund. I had to pay for this out of pocket as insurance does not cover these. If I returned it, Dr. Stears would have been out the $150 or so it cost (I don't quite remember the exact amount) as he could not have done anything with a mouth guard molded for my specific mouth. I took him up on the offer and have been so glad I did. I felt this was really going the extra mile. I think it behooves us to take care of the teeth we want to keep all our lives and I feel I am in a good place to do that right now. read more

Because I used my front teeth as tools to open bags for years and hold things and do other things teeth aren't meant to do for years, it bit me in the butt and my two front teeth starting chipping. When I went to my regular appointment, I mentioned it to Dr. Stears, he said about the only thing that could be done that would work was to get veneers. They have a great payment plan called Smile Generation, so we used that. They prepped my teeth and built up the temporaries so I wouldn't have nubs. All I had to do was remember not to use them as tools so they'd stay in until my permanent teeth came in. I went back this morning. Dr. Stears used the numbing spray, and numbed me up really well. It took just a few minutes. They are beautiful and the color is exact. He again reminded me against using them as tools. . I don't think I'll forget. Things I like about Dentists of Tucson: They treat you like family as soon as you walk in..even if you've never been there before. The rooms are modern and very clean. They clean everything every time it's used. I know that it's done everywhere because of the virus, but it was done every time I came in. Everyone is so helpful. If you have a need, they help you right away. In fact, I cut myself somehow on the way there, and they gave me a Bandaid right away. It's just the little things they do that mean a lot to me. They chit chat with each other while they are working on you. Being the baby that I am about dentists, it made the time go quickly and kept my mind busy. I wish more dentists AND doctors did that. They know what to do to make your visit warm, friendly and professional at the same time. If you need a great dental experience, Dentists of Tucson is the place to go. Watch out for this dentist office. I had an emergency porcelain crown done on one of my back molars in May 2021. The office assistant, who got my insurance company wrong, made me sit in the office for two hours while they tried to figure out what insurance I had. I had to make two phone calls to my insurance while sitting in the office waiting. Finally getting frustrated and in pain, I handed my phone to the office assistant who then talked to my insurance. When she got off the phone she then turned to me and said that I had one of the best policies out there and it would cover 60% of the dental visit. After getting my crown I was asked to pay $623.00 as part of my share of the procedure. Which I paid readily. Now fast forward October 2021, I receive a bill in the mail for an additional $275.00. I called and was told that my insurance didn't cover the whole amount and that I am liable for the remainder of the bill. Now lets do some math: I was told that my insurance was billed $577.00 for the procedure and I was billed for $623.00, does this sound like they billed the insurance company for 60% and me 40%? I don't think so. If $577.00 is 60% of the cost then the total should have been $961.66. If I am to pay 40% of the bill at $623.00 then the total would be $1557.50. They told me the total procedure cost $1207.00 and my insurance only paid $309.00. Things don't add up. If they charged the insurance company $577.00 which was 60%, then my 40% of the bill would be ($961.66 X 40%) $384.66. If the 60% of the bill was $961.66 and my insurance paid $309.00 that would leave me with a bill of $652.66, which I paid $623.00. Again math doesn't lie, So either I was overcharged from the total amount they told the insurance it cost, or they didn't submit 60% to my insurance company. Or they are inventing a new total bill after the fact and wanting me to pay $275.00 more. Either of these three scenarios boil down to bad billing practice. If the bill was $1207.00 then 60% would be $724.20 and 40% would be $482.80. Then I was overcharged $140.20 at the onset. None of these numbers connect with the numbers that they are saying now. If my final bill amount should be $652.66 I would owe them $29.66, which I will gladly submit a payment for, if they can show me the correct math and what they are trying to pull. At the end of the conversation I was told that they would meet me half way and split the difference with me if I would pay $137.45. They know that the hassle factor for them and me coupled with refusing to pay the additional amount, then they would have to get collections involved and then I would have to dispute a bad credit entry into my credit report. So they are betting that I will just pay the $137.45 and be done with this. Bottom line, I will NEVER go to Dentists of Tucson for anything. I will go toothless before I pull into their parking lot again. Watch out for unscrupulous dentist's offices who like to inflate prices and then come back months later to get more money. I am not saying the Dentist who work there are unscrupulous, I am saying the office staff that they employ ARE. Dentist of Tucson are to be avoided like Covid-19. read more

Beware corporate style dental office. No ethics will upsell you anything you'll pay for. Stear and Jr. Wall are the dentists worst most painful experience I've ever had. Wall Jr put on a crown the wrong size had to do the procedure all over again. This Cathy poked all my gums with a metal pick which hurt trying to get them to bleed but no luck she still tried to sell me this deep cleaning for $1500 when my teeth were just cleaned 6 mo ago. The hygienist did a regular cleaning took 25 min and said there was NO garter on my teeth. Went back a final time tried the A year this time for a filling because part of the old one had come out. He tells me he cannot fill the tooth it is loose and cracked badly decayed so I can either let it rot out of my head or he will pull it. Knew he was lying mad at me because I didn't go for the deep cleaning charade. Went to another dentist who put a nice filling in the tooth and said tooth is not loose nor cracked. my wife and i went to this clinic, dentists of tucson for our check up and cleaning that is covered by our insurance. they checked everything, xray, bleeding test etc. then the doctor came explaining i need a crown or cap in one of my molars that's why i am having a bleeding. then the insurance lady came and gave me all the breakdown of my payments and treatments. then i asked her, if i can get my regular cleaning for now instead of the deep cleaning? then she said, "this is what doctor wall's recommendation you need deep cleaning" i said, i understand that but i do not have that much of money to pay for just cleaning because i work in the city and my wife doesn't work, i begged to have my regular cleaning for now since it is covered by my insurance. then she said she will go talk to dr. wall about my request. then she came back and said, "just like what i thought, doctor wall doesn't want to do it, because you were diagnosed that you need a deep cleaning and if we do the regular cleaning, he will lose his license as a dentist." this it the first time i heard this thing. i was even almost begging her to just do the regular cleaning for now that is covered by my insurance so that my taking off from work and going to our appointment will not be wasted, and my wife and i will talk about the procedures the doctor is recommending for us. then the lady said, "we can all do this recommendations of doctor wall and you do not need to pay all the charges, you just need to pay $150 at least then we can put you in payment plan" i was almost begging her to just do the regular cleaning for now since i was there and she said, "i'm sorry we cannot do that". then i agreed and told her that i will discuss the more than $2,000 co-pay for the treatment plan doctor wall is recommending for me. then i met my wife outside, then she told me the same thing, she was requesting to have her regular cleaning that's covered by our insurance but they did not let her have it. my wife just had her periodontal cleaning 6 months ago but the dental hygienist told her that she needs a deep cleaning again because she doesn't believe that it was done 6 months ago, as per the hygienist it seems it was done more than a year ago. my wife had her periodontal deep cleaning 6 months ago in beverly hills california and 3 months after she had her maintenance. but what the hygienist at dentists of tucson telling her was different. i do not trust this dentist, and the stuff in this clinic, it seems they are really concern about our money, big payments! i was almost begging asking to do the regular cleaning for me and my wife anyway that time but instead, they said the doctor will lose his license. that was ridiculous! i work in the city and earn peanuts, pay check to pay check and i told them that! no sympathy, they do not really care for your situation, they want your money and that's it! find something else, if you need to go to phoenix i believe 2 hours drive is worth it! here in tucson, it's so hard to find a good dentist that is really honest and willing to help you in your situation! small city, small choices, doctors and dentists are money greedy no sympathy to people who they serve! read more

I think my relationship with dentists of Tucson is finished. I'm saying that because when I was in this past week they did not send me to the front desk to schedule an appointment. A few months ago, my bridge on my lower row of teeth came loose so I could not chew anymore. I went to dentists of Tucson, which was Spanish Trail dentists, before they moved, and the dentist said that the Bridge could not be repaired. I was given two options, pull all my teeth that were left including the bridge and replace with either a denture or fake teeth screwed into my gums. I decided on the denture because it was much lower in cost than the fake teeth screwed into my gums. I am elderly and did not see a good reason for incurring that expense. So, I went in and a contracted oral surgeon named Dr. Miller did the tooth removal. They immediately gave me a temporary denture. I tried wearing these dentures all the time but within a couple days they began being very painful so I started leaving them out most of the time. Long story short, I was in several times to get the denture adjusted and never got any sort of a comfortable fit. On my last visit, I thought they were going to once again adjust the denture, but the lady who was seeing me said that she thought I was in there to be getting ready for an upper partial plate. I told her that until the lower denture was working for me, I didn't want to try to deal with an upper Partial plate. I guess I was a bit rude because I told her numerous times the denture was just not acceptable, and her reply was that it was, after all were temporary; The permanent denture would be better. I told her that I was not ready to get a permanent denture until the so-called temporary one was usable because I just do not trust them and the permanent denture cost quite a bit more money. Well that's about where it ended and I left the office. Now I don't know what to do--I guess I will just be a toothless old lady! Very Depressing! Please be careful with these people. They are very very nice and polite but obviously only there to sell and get your money, not necessarily to help you. Well I guess I'm naïve; I forgot that it is after all just another business. They put me at ease from the minute I walked in until my visit was complete. The services provided and the care given was the best I have had. The office was clean, the staff was happy and eager to work as a team, it was obvious they enjoyed working together. Everyone in the office is very friendly and when I went in September I as many of the other reviewers needed all teeth scaled and extra this and extra that but I agreed and had everything done as well as a root canal and crown. Now fast forward to this past weekend out of the blue one of my teeth started hurting just slightly at first on Thursday and as my x-rays just 2.5 months ago showed no issues with any other teeth I assumed it would go away, well it did not and by Saturday it was throbbing pain level 10+. I called Saturday as it showed they were open and they did answer the phone but there are no dentists working so basically they are closed . The women on the phone was very sympathetic and assured me they would get this figured out there first available they could see me is this coming Thursday 6 days later.I then get a call from some California number and a very nice lady went over my concerns and pain level and told me she would reach out to the doctor on call, she called me back 20 minutes later to see if I had spoken to anyone, nope, so she attempted to contact the next dentist in line this happened 3 time and then nothing I never heard back from anyone. It is now Monday 2:17 pm still NOTHING and yes I'm still in pain and taking 3 ibuprofen and 1 Tylenol EVERY 4 hours to function. I guess they have made it very clear they do not need my business, very disgusted with there service .Will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

This Staff is nothing short of amazing. They are always very helpful, patient and loving with me. I am a long standing patient of Dr. Stears and I am very blessed to be so. I would recommend Dr. Stears and his amazing Staff at Dentist of Tucson to anyone who is looking for a Dentist.
