Let me start by saying I have extremely high anxiety when it comes to anything dentist. My blood pressure goes up, im shaky and I cry so I tend to let the dentist know. Not only did the dentist not care at all about my anxiety and at times pain, she was very rude, judgy and condescending about it. She kept telling me that my pain was "just pressure" and I was letting my fear and anxiety get in the way. She was very rough in trying to pull my tooth out and didnt seem to care how I felt all the while telling me my pain was pressure as I was about to come out the seat. They are also very aggressive with trying to sell you a dental plan. Trying to charge someone $14,000 to get work done is insane! The front desk lady was very nice along with the dentist assistant. That is about the only good thing that happened at this visit! If I hadn't been in so much pain I would have gone to my normal dentist (konikoff... they would.never) if they could have gotten me in before the weekend. My husband and I both had appointments set at Aspen. We were new to the area with new insurance. Called around to several places and it was months before we could get in. So we decided to try Aspen, we wanted to get our cleanings which were overdue about 3 months. Reviews on in some places were great, in others not so much. Knew it was a gamble. My experience with reception and even the lady who did my x-rays was pleasant. Minimum wait at first. Then i went in with the hygienist and the hard sales started. From that point for the next 90 minutes (yes 90 minutes from start of cleaning to actually being able to leave) was non-stop sales. If it was not a service, it was a product. When I checked out, a "plan of care" was presented along with financing options. I was not interested in anything additional. Several of the issues they mentioned, had previously been discussed with my old dentist in my former location. I knew they were not concerns, certainly nothing I needed to go out of pocket hundreds of dollars (after insurance) for. My husbands had a similar experience, but they did not complete a cleaning, nor did the schedule one at the end of the evaluation. They want him to fork over well over a thousand dollars for many of the same services recommended to me. It feels predatory. I deep dove after my husband had his experience and found the lawsuits related to predatory practices and other questionable business practices. I have seen other reviews where Aspen has responded and told reviewers to call. I will happily communicate via email or snail mail, I am not trying to call again. read more

I'm really sad to see such poor reviews for this location. I really enjoy coming here. The staff members are amazing and the doctors are so friendly and cool. I have great little chats with everyone while things are being set up. I recently got a cleaning done and John was phenomenal. He's patient, takes his time and does a very thorough job. They have a great selection of days and times to make appointments. The location itself is clean and tidy. I really recommend visiting and seeing for yourself. read more

Will NEVER use this company again. Account was paid up, zero balance as of Nov 2024. Now I get a bill for $24.40 for an item from Jan 24 ! Have not been in the office since July 24 for anything ! Their accounting/billing is ridiculous. Had a lot of difficulty with items paid but not reflected in the account. Not another penny ! I'll take this to small claims court if necessary. Where do I began. If I could give this place zero stars o would. From the beginning I was doubting this place because of the customer service and the greeting as you walked in. That says a lot about a business". My appt has been canceled, pushed back, canceled again. My insurance covered it then again it didn't? Lies after lies. Excuses after Excuses. Still didn't receive all of my services and bring charged as we speak on service that I have not yet gotten became of new ownership or whatever Excuses they came up with today. We switched dental insurance and this was one of the few in the area that accepted our insurance. The initial call to the office was great. We scheduled appointments for our family of 5. They were even able to get out daughter in college an apt near her school. Her appointment was scheduled first. It was a few weeks from graduation and she was moving to Alaska shortly after so we were very excited she could get this taken care of before leaving. The day prior to her appointment they cancelled saying they had a staff issue and couldn't get her booked until long after she was gone. Bummer but understandable. What's not understandable is that this has continued to happen over the past year. Multiple appointments have been cancelled. We took our chances and booked an appointment further away in hopes we could actually get our son in. He's now on the second cancellation over the past few months. We just paid out of pocket to have our other two kids teeth cleaned with another dentist that's reliable. They also require you to do X-rays first and then schedule the cleaning at another appointment. Which wouldn't be a huge deal if they would actually keep an appointment. We are flexible but this is ludicrous! One of the few appointments they actually kept I overheard them cancelling other appointments on the phone, so know this isn't an isolated issue. Do yourself a favor and avoid Aspen Dental! I'm not sure what is going on with this company but we will be changing insurance companies to avoid this business. read more

Run!!! Unbelievably bad experience & over charged me $10,000! At the Va Beach General booth location. I was over charged nearly $10,000 I've been asking for my over payment back as promised by the dentist & office staff . But only getting the run around for close to a year. Called the number I'm sure I'll be told to call again after posting this, Put in touch with office manager Jordan & she would get it straight, a bunch of apologies, smiles & "I'm working on it" until she left that office now have to deal with another incompetent giving me the same runaround. This company does not communicate well with the call center. I called the call center was sent to one 800 Dentist Call Center and then told that they had walkins show up to the place they said it was available I get there and they tell me that there's no doctor that they were short staff went to the other place that they sent me to which was the one in hilltop went to the one in the Landstown went to the one in town center all of them miscommunicated with the call center saying that they do not have anyone. Very uncustomer oriented...they never answer the phone. When they do you get conflicting answers. I asked for my X-rays 3 days ago. Each time I was promised to receive them via email. Receptionist number one said they could not send x-rays to another dentist that I had to be the one to receive them that is fine but they were never sent Receptionist number two said she could not send them to me that she had to send them to another dentist ...the other dentist called and still no x-rays were sent. The reason why I need my x-rays is because I showed up to the dentist office on my appointment and I was told that my bill was $400 outside of both my dental coverage. No one told me that in advance that being the case I needed another dentist. read more

This place deserve 0 starts but that's not an option when leaving a review. My husband went in for a routine cleaning. They insisted that he take x-rays before they would even do the cleaning. After the exam they said that he had periodontal gum disease and the treatment would cost $1800. Thank goodness he got up and left. I have since sent the x-rays to 2 other dentists and they vehemently disagree with their diagnosis. I have heard other stories about this place. Please BE AWARE of this place. Google "Aspen Dental scam" before even thinking of booking an appointment. You will find BBB complaints, numerous past and pending lawsuits, and horror stories from patients all over the country. Their business model is shady at best. Aspen's business model is to scare patients into thinking they have advanced gum disease, regardless of the condition of their teeth and gums, then prescribe and perform unnecessary treatment (root scaling/planing aka "deep cleanings") - for several thousand dollars. They inflate the price of the root scaling/planing and add on several unnecessary additional costs/services/products (prescription products, electric toothbrush, etc). After getting a 2nd opinion from a local dentist in VB, I discovered I did not in fact need the thousands of dollars worth of work that Aspen had quoted me (AND made me pay a portion of up front to "hold the appointment"), but only a standard cleaning. Most people do NOT need deep cleanings - a simple Google search will tell you that (and a reputable dentist will verify). There are plenty of reputable local dentists in Hampton Roads that will perform honest work at a fair and reasonable price - go to one of them instead. Luckily I did not let Aspen do anything to me except their "consultation" and was able to get a refund on my "deposit", but hopefully if enough people come forward with the truth, we can outnumber these fake/paid-for 5 star reviews so that others can avoid the extremely negative experience that is pretty much guaranteed by setting foot in an Aspen dental. read more

I went there for consultation. They took my X-rays and with that they concluded that they were going to yank all my bottom teeth because they had a lot of decay. They did a cost estimate, ran it through carecredit which approved about 2500 to cover the cost of surgery. They did not explain to me as to what exactly they intended to do. When my wife looked over the procedure, she told me to get a second opinion from a different dentist. The second opinion determined that all I needed to do is have 2 teeth pulled. To make the long story short, they had already billed the surgery with carecredit which is hounding me to pay almost 2500 dollars for services that I never received. First of all I would not recommend anyone to go to this place. If you are not careful, they are going to take you for a ride. I called them to refund the money to carecredit but I am still getting billed from the bank that approved the loan for the surgery that I never went through. Next step is to get a lawyer to take care of this matter. Horrible experience. read more

If i could do worse than 1 star I would. I had dental work done awhile back, (got my wisdom teeth removed, it was emergency as they were impacted and severely infected) i was concerned as me and my wife were and still are in a very impoverish state. Yet they assured us that they would work with us so that we are comfortable. As a student I was making little to no money and my wife was struggling to find a secure job, so we couldent make payments. Aspen has now threatened a LAWSUIT against me for not making payments. around 4 or 5 months after the procedure and they are threatening lawsuits. This was the most bizarre dentist visit I have ever been too. Every other dentist I have every been to cleans your teeth at an annual visit. Aspen dental just took a million ( likely unnecessary ) X-rays and then looked at my teeth for 10 seconds and sent me on my way for a financial meeting where I was told I'd have to pay more money to actually have my teeth cleaned. I have insurance so my free-annual visit was just wasted without actually having my teeth cleaned. I feel scammed. Please don't go here. read more

So I went to this dentist in VA to get a simple cleaning, At first everything was good after my x-rays, but then it got weird. I saw a 2 hygienist and after that I was told that the dentist was coming in. after an hour the checkup was done and i was waiting to get cleaned only to be told that my insurance wasn't enough to cover the cleaning which is false because for 20 years and getting at least 1 cleaning a year i was told that i needed to pay $647 dollars because my insurance wasn't enough or didn't cover it all. Crazy right. while talking to the dentist she recommended that i have a perfectly good tooth removed and was literally pulling on my fillings trying to get them loose. This place is a scam then for the 1 tooth i have missing in the back right i was told that i needed to get dentures. and conveniently the tooth on the opposing side needed to be removed. How is it possible to go from getting a cleaning to having all of your dental deductible used up on a check up. These people are car salesman of the Dental world. You make an appointment via a call center here. The appointment is only for *several* x-rays and an exam of your mouth. The wait was about 25 mins, despite no one else being in the waiting area. The x-rays consist of a stand-up model that will circle your head. Then, you will go into another x-ray room and have one piece of plastic after the next shoved in your mouth. You sit down, stand up, turn this way and that way. I've personally never experienced more x-rays for a basic, exam. Next, you go into the exam room and get offered a $30 oral cancer screening with a "special blue light". I've had this extra-fee exam done at another place and it's so quick and seems rather ridiculous if you're not at high risk for oral cancer (personal opinion.) The hygienist came in and talked negatively about my mouth. Really didn't have a personality. After that, the dentist comes in and also looks in your mouth. Once this is all out of the way, the billing specialist comes in and tells you a seemingly high amount for your cleaning. Of course, she told me the online offers (I had screenshot if she wanted to see) weren't valid, despite being posted on the website and read just seconds before I left for the appointment. Plus, the flouride here costs $50. I haven't paid more than $25 for that additional treatment before. Even though it's your money and your mouth, the billing specialist has to get permission from the hygenist if you don't want to pay for the flouride or any additional/recommended treatment. I ended up paying for the cleaning and then sat in another waiting area for approx 10-15 more minutes. The hygienist basically tried to convince me of how bad my mouth was and at the end, slipped a product that was about $30 in the bag. She stops at the front desk and tells the receptionist to get me checked out. I'm thinking, "what do I have to pay for now, since they get 100% of the cost of the cleaning paid upfront"? Well, the product that she decided I'd need, of course. If I had done the oral cancer screening, got some basic flouride, and the product they recommended I'd be paying $110. Add in the cost of the cleaning at $132 (or whatever price you can get the billing specialist to agree on for you)...you're at nearly $250 for a simple, 6 month cleaning. I can only imagine with a cavity or other issue. All in all, the facility is clean (because it's new). Some of the staff are plesant, but key ones are less than favorable. If you have the money to spend and time to spare, this dental office will be just fine. read more

Another great visit at the Aspen (Red Mill) office with Dr Phaup and her team. I use the term 'visit' because I feel more like a guest than a patient! Kennady, my amazing/personable hygienist, has me on a treatment plan to have quarterly cleanings and this has helped significantly. Now my cleaning visits are quick and my teeth look and feel better. They really take very good care of me. read more

Dr. Phaup and the rest of the staff are fantastic! They are friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. My 9 year old daughter got 2 cavities filled by Dr. Phaup and never even knew she got a shot. I was in and out for 2 fillings in about 45 mins. Highly recommend! read more
