Had a tongue tie surgery at 41, requested the day of surgery for ongoing plan and myofunctional therapy/ any issues that may arise after. Was told there was nothing needed as I'm an adult...after months of further issues, called back using the referral that I already have in place, refused service and told they do not recommend any of those therapies to patients unless explicitly asked. Which I did ask the day of surgery and it was not documented. The nurse then acted like I was the problem for being upset and attempted to hang up on me after asking me further questions, simply asking for proper documentation to take to the VA. Told their clinic does not do that and never has. How can a surgery clinic not put in requests or recommendations for proper follow up care after surgery? Or at least acknowledge the frustration without making it completely worse before blaming me- citing their staff is new and doesn't understand the process. Train your people. Document properly when patients ask about these issues before being upset that they are upset because you refuse to schedule or send documentation to the VA.

So we decided to try Aspen, we wanted to get our cleanings which were overdue about 3 months. Reviews on in some places were great, in others not so much. Knew it was a gamble. My experience with reception and even the lady who did my x-rays was pleasant. Minimum wait at first. Then i went in with the hygienist and the hard sales started. From that point for the next 90 minutes (yes 90 minutes from start of cleaning to actually being able to leave) was non-stop sales. If it was not a service, it was a product. When I checked out, a "plan of care" was presented along with financing options. I was not interested in anything additional. Several of the issues they mentioned, had previously been discussed with my old dentist in my former location. I knew they were not concerns, certainly nothing I needed to go out of pocket hundreds of dollars (after insurance) for. My husbands had a similar experience, but they did not complete a cleaning, nor did the schedule one at the end of the evaluation. They want him to fork over well over a thousand dollars for many of the same services recommended to me. It feels predatory. I deep dove after my husband had his experience and found the lawsuits related to predatory practices and other questionable business practices. I have seen other reviews where Aspen has responded and told reviewers to call. I will happily communicate via email or snail mail, I am not trying to call again.

I think he really likes what he does and it shows in the detail and care he provided. My first visit there was 2 weeks ago for a broken tooth. I'm 55 years old and it's the first time in my life at a dentist that I didn't feel a thing. Not even the needle for the numbing. I thought he hadn't even done it yet because my eyes were shut and I didn't feel a thing. I have a bad needle phobia and Dr. Joe found out about it and always let me know before a needle is going to come into my field of vision so I can shut my eyes. So I never even saw one the whole time! I was a very happy person. Kelly is his dental assistant and she informed me that she's been doing this for about 25 years. She's knowledgeable, she's kind and gentle, and she's funny! She's the kind of person you just know is great with kids, the elderly, and anyone in between. Most of all she's very talented and good at what she does to assist Dr. Joe - she was reading his mind as he was working on me and it was easy to tell that she knows her job inside and out. Both Kelly and Dr. Joe explained everything clearly they were going to do to repair my broken tooth, root canal, crown, etc. , how long it would take, and everything about it. I didn't feel even the first needle go in to numb me, AND I didn't have even an ounce of pain from the root canal. Nothing. Nada. It was a blessed relief. My kids are grown now but if I had to do it over again I'd definitely have taken them here instead of the very bad experiences we had at other dentists. Because of those previous bad experiences elsewhere, I was afraid to even go to another dentist but when my tooth broke I didn't have a choice. So I chose Konikoff on Lynnhaven Pkwy because it was in my general area where I live. When I went in for the first time two weeks ago, I was very uncomfortable and fearful. I had no idea what to expect, and have the fear of needles on top of it. Dr. Joe and Kelly did everything necessary to help me feel calm and in good hands. And as it turned out, I was in GREAT hands! After she rang my phone 10 to 12 times in a row I couldn't take it anymore so I answered it and that secretary got mad at me because I didn't answer the phone. Even after I explained why I couldn't. She proceeded to tell me my sons appt needed to be rescheduled I was upset because it took me a month to get an appt because my job doesn't allow me to miss work for any reason or we get a mark on our attendance record which could lead to dismissal. So this secretary rescheduled my son's appt for tomorrow and then they send my Autistic son a certified letter canceling his appointment 3 days before the new scheduled appt. Who does that? Why would they schedule his appointment and then cancel it? I'm thinking because I had to hang up immediately so I can get back to my job before I get fired What really eats at me is the way they cancelled his appt by sending my son who is Autistic a certified letter who can't comprehend anything due to his autism. It was recommended to me to file a discrimination complaint against the doctor.
