Aspen Outfitting is without a doubt the go to place for any out adventure in Colorado! The two days of fly fishing were guided buy the most experienced and helpful fishing experts, that helped us brush up on our fly fishing skills to bring in some of the most beautiful trout the Roaring Fork river has to offer. While in Aspen, we also went on an all day pheasant hunting excursion guided by Aspen Outfitters. After a warm up shooting session, we had two hunts: one in the morning and another in the afternoon, with an amazing lunch in between. The guides, as well as the dogs, were very well versed in their jobs, leading us across the country side in search of pheasant. Located inside of the St Regis hotel, Aspen Outfitting Co is an awesome fly fishing guide service. Trip catered to both of us, one with experience in fly fishing and one without. They use nice Simms waders and boots, and the little shop they have inside of the hotel is really nice. We had Tom as our guide. Honestly, after many guided trips around the world, I can honestly say he was the best guide we've had. He was super knowledgeable, provided great instruction, great attitude, catered to each of our experience levels, worked really hard to get us on fish, and actively changed flies and setups to match conditions. We each learned a ton, and couldn't have asked for a better trip. The shop was also really helpful giving us local info on what flies to buy to fish after the trip. What a great experience! I have been to Aspen many times and used this company for other activities but never for flyfishing. I started my day with an experienced guide, Lawrence, and he took me to Woody Creek to fish for trout! I loved that they put one guide with only one to two customers. Lawrence was patient and so knowledgeable. Loved his passion for fishing and the outdoors. He was so good at "reading" the fish so when they were feeding on top he would change gear and the same when they were feeding below. As you can see from the photos we had a very successful morning catching both brown trout and rainbow trout-good sizes too! Included a visit from a beautiful deer! My friends and I went fly fishing with Aspen Outfitting Company and we all really enjoyed ourselves! Honestly, none of us are really outdoorsy - or particularly talented when it comes to fishing - but that didn't matter in the slightest. The guides (Flynn, Ray and Pat) were all so great and taught us enough to make us feel confident in our (novice) skills. Huge shout out to Ray who stayed close, corrected my form, was so nice and was also super committed to ensuring I caught a fish - which I finally did on my own!! Beautiful little boutique with really nice t-shirts and lots of flies for fishing. Shawn was extremely nice and showed us all the flies that "have had success" in this region at this time of the year. We left with a very nice assortment! Watch out fishies we are coming! He also took the time to let us know how to tie them in tandem etc. Highly recommend this boutique. Very nice hats made in Aspen at the back of the boutique. This past weekend, our hotel in Aspen set us up with some skeet shooting in Basalt with Aspen Outfitting Company. Karl picked us up for a private day of shooting, and we had so much fun! We shoot a lot at home at our ranch in Texas, so we were expecting a more strict and by-the-book shooting experience here, but we got something just as laid back and relaxed as home. Karl trusted us with our previous shooting experience, helped us brush up on some of our "lazier" habits/techniques, and clarified the true rules of the game of skeet. We learned so much!! While walking in the St. Regis hotel, I noticed this fly shop was advertising winter fly fishing. I came to Aspen to ski, but was pleasantly surprised to learn that there is winter fly fishing available in March. I booked a half day in early March 2023 and had a wonderful and productive outing with my guide Mal. They provided all gear and clothing to make the day memorable and productive. 3 out of 4 of us had never shot clays before. By the 2nd hour everyone was breaking clays and we even discovered there was a skeet prodigy in our group, he was hitting everything lofted in the air. The morning trip started with a pickup on time at the hotel and we were driven about 25 minutes to the range. We received detailed instructions on safety and shooting, there were some white knuckles at first... but after everyone had fired a few shots things got fun. By lunchtime everyone was feeling a sense of accomplishment, good fun! read more

Amazing experience! Eric was super helpful at getting all of our activities set up! The shop was addictive and I think we bought something every time we went in! The best adventure was fly fishing with Flinn on private land. She is extremely knowledgeable about the area, what the fish are eating and when, and where to find them. She was very patient with us, as we were both 1st timers, and by the end we both had success catching fish! Subsequently we booked another afternoon and requested Flinn. I recently took a Half Day Private River Trout fishing expedition with Mal Burks and it was phenomenal. My background is avid fisherman and hunting. When it comes to flyfishing however it's all foreign to me . I had two trips under my belt before this trip. I learned and progressed, but I still felt incompetent. However, that really changed with Mal guiding me I learned a wealth of knowledge and procedure and caught some really nice fish. Booked a horseback riding trip three weeks in advance with Aspen Outfitting Company. Received an email confirmation immediately, multiple email confirmations before our ride date as well as a phone call confirmation on the morning of our ride. Transportation was arranged and when we got to the site (they outsource their trips) we discovered they dropped the ball and never followed through having our horses or guide arranged. We had no cellular service and had to hike for service to call them. We called for over an hour and went to voicemail every time. What a disappointment as this was our #1 thing to do in Aspen and had other activities booked and paid for the remaining days while there. Fortunately, while at the trailhead, we met another outfitting company that booked a same day afternoon trip for us and they bent over backwards to help us. We went from $800+ through Aspen Outfitting down to $350 by booking directly. Do your research and book direct. Aspen Outfitters offered no excuses other than screwing up. Cut out the middleman and book direct!!! BTW...our money was supposedly refunded 4 days ago but our credit card statement still doesn't reflect the credit. Hopefully not another oversight. read more

While visiting Aspen, my husband and I decided to give fly fishing a go. We met Jarrod at the St Regis hotel, who told us all about the experience. Within minutes we were sold, it sounded like a blast. A few days after, we met up with Matt, our guide, and went to the Roaring Fork River to fish for some trout. Fly fishing was so much more challenging than we had anticipated, but it was a blast. Such a fun and unique experience. Matt was also incredible. He was so friendly and knowledgable. I simply had the best time my FIRST time fly-fishing! A bit about me, I'm a Dallas attorney, and quite the city-slicker, but my guide, Tom, made me feel quite at ease and totally didn't judge me when the Aspen altitude (or my lack of fitness) prompted me to take break. The place is super convenient located at the St. Regis hotel. The whole experience is first-class. They checked to make sure my boots and waders fit before we left, and they answered all my questions. A short ride later, we got to where we wanted to be, and my guide made sure I felt comfortable and safe. We fished, watched the river rafters go by, enjoyed the scenery, and had a great time. We caught a fish together (!), but that was just one of the fun parts of the day. I recommend working with Aspen Outfitting without reservation. Karl was the best at teaching us. First time shooting clay and it was such a fun/great time. The lesson progressed from basic rules, sight picture on paper targets. The training exercises Karl put us through were really helpful. From paper targets, we then went to single clay, then double. While it was pricey, Karl was able to give us one on one feedback after every shot. That attention to detail made it worth it. It was a great day and a great way to find a new hobby. read more
