I put a bid on Home Depot (rookie mistake) and had 2 contractors say I needed a cap that could be installed for $900. That didn't seem thorough so I called evolution chimney. They had a young man and his partner came out and they went in the basement and to the roof and told me all the work I needed done. They had to add a new and wide liner, fix the deteriorating staccato, ensured that there was no chance of carbon monoxide and of course the cap. It was well worth the investment. The first appointment I had there was a scheduling mishap so the woman that took my call offered to deploy an emergency weekend team but I opted to reschedule for the next week. The work was done in a few hours. I was worried about squirrels still getting into the attic so I put a metal trap up there but nothing has been in the attic since and no water seems to be coming through the wall. Highly recommend.

The work done was abysmal. No joke, a friend asked me if it was one of my DIY projects. At the time, it was late evening with dim lighting. Still, he noticed the bad workmanship. I felt like an idiot having paid nearly $4,000 for this work. One important thing to know is that this business is NOT licensed, in neither MD nor DC. For MD, the license number published in one of the craigslist ads has more digits than assigned by the state. Unfortunately, I didn't do my due diligent to checkout this information beforehand. You can verify the lack of license with both principality online (see below). The representative from MD even checked for an expired license and didn't find one.
