I had plans to extend my home, add a garage, and get the roof done. The quotes I got? Wild. One guy told me it would cost a minimum of $300,000 to extend my house 450 sq. ft.--just 10 feet out. Selection: I got 3 roof quotes for some suspected moisture invasion and roof issues discovered by another contractor. Both We Get High and V&K gave me around the same quote for a total roof replacement (around 8k, not including plywood prices) and Summit quoted me an eye watering 24k (including materials). I went with V&K for several reasons: - The two workers who arrived were knowledgeable about the roof, patiently looked at the areas I was most worried about, and called the office immediately to discuss their findings - I really enjoyed how attentive and quick the quote process was; Karol was great to work with - I was treated with respect as a female homeowner and nobody asked to speak to my husband (which is often times a problem) The results: From both a house inspection and other contractors, I knew that the roof I have was potentially not done by pros, and there were more problems than expected: - All the facia had to be replaced because of rotting and water ingress - The infrastructure underneath the plywood was shoddy/nonexistent and V&K added extensive plywood support underneath - They also did all the vents and flashing and the ... metal cover things underneath the eaves - The plywood costs were already going to cost around 4.5k but the additional facia costs were an unexpected addition. The total came to about 14k. I have a huge, flat-ish roof, and the price compared to other homeowners and people I spoke to, sounded about right. That said, Karol's team also replaced all my gutters with the facia and were incredibly considerate about all the other things I didn't even think to worry about, and I felt like they threw in a lot of things that were not explicitly charged (2x4 plywood for infrastructure etc) - You can hear each shingle nailed in with precisely 6 nails each - Karol supervised all the work carefully - They swept all the work area with magnets to make sure I wouldn't step on a rusty nail or pop a tire on them, I really appreciated the careful cleanup - Everyone was incredibly hard working and efficient, there were no long lulls or breaks for days so I didn't have to worry about the weather - The team documented all the roofwork in pictures so I can see what was done, when I get a chance I'll clean them of EXIF data and post it I'm very pleased with the job with the team and will be recommending them to all my neighbors. Also, as a security person I want to mention some older reviews where it looks like there were a few victims to impersonation scams--if you read my other reviews this has been happening to lots of legitimate businesses in the area, including two restaurants that I frequent. A few tips: - Always meet with contractors in person at least once - Have a signed contract and negotiate the work in detail - Check that the phone number you use for Zelle matches the yelp profile - Ask for proof of insurance--again, match the company you're working with, with the proof of insurance - Zelle payments will hold the funds for 3 business days, so pay the deposit immediately before workers arrive (and rescind payment if they delay--you can always pay them again later) - Be mindful of your monthly maximum for the Zelle payment (it's a rolling max so in the worst case scenario you wouldn't be able to finish paying for your whole roof replacement unless you use a second account, or a check) Is this fool proof? No, there will always be very smart conmen but I can attest that this is a legitimate business and they did legitimate (good quality) work for me. read more

Beware of V & K Builders. We hired them on several occasions for different projects: gutter cleaning, minor roof repairs, etc. We were really happy with the workmanship & communication up until recently. The most recent repair of our roof came with a one year warranty from V & K Builders. In April, we found that it needed further attention & I contacted Karol to address it. I had to call a few times, & she mentioned how busy they were, & that Victor would come out as soon as possible. He never did. I continued to call & text over the next month or so, but Karol stopped responding to me. My husband tried reaching out recently as well, & also got the run around. It's now July & this issue was brought up in April. I'm so disappointed, as we trusted Karol & Victor. We hired them numerous times. I even shared their contact info with friends who needed gutter cleaning! My last resort is to post this review, in hopes they might reach out to us & make this right. V&K Builders stole $4200 from us and have failed to show up to court for over a year or respond to our correspondence. We won a judgement in the Prince William County General District Court (case #GV23004323-05). Through our research in preparing for this court case, the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation also found that they are an unlicensed contractor and sent them a cease-and-desist letter due to unlicensed contracting. Additionally, they have several other pending judgements against them over the years. In our situation, V&K Builders failed to show up to our property for work multiple days in a row. After failing to meet the terms of the contract, Karol stopped responding to us and stole our money. We never had any work completed nor were any materials given to us. We filed in court, won the judgement, and have a court date on February 3rd 2025 for them to pay. When we noticed a leak in the ceiling of our family room, we reached out to several roofers for estimates. V&K Builders were the only ones to offer multiple options for fixing the issue, instead of telling us we needed to replace the whole roof, like the other companies did. On top of that, their full replacement estimate was MUCH more reasonable than the others as well. We decided to go with the partial repair to start. I discovered this great company by using Yelp's broadcasting service. Four companies were contacted via Yelp messaging. One company did not reply until the fourth day, one replied the next day, and that last two contacted me right away (V & K being one of those two). V & K outbid the second company by a significant amount of money. Although V & K's services were the cheapest out of the four, their services were more extensive than the other companies and their performance in completing those services was anything but cheap. This company is more than just building and contracting. For instance, in my situation I needed the gutters cleaned (God only knows when they were last cleaned), my small yard yearned for landscaping, and the siding of our house needed to show its true color of blue again instead of algae-green. They did all this with speed and professionalism. The best part is that I paid the price that we originally agreed upon. They neither tried to inflate the price nor add on services once they began. They did our roof in January of this year and were really thorough and inexpensive. We were dreading the expense but after a couple of leaks bit the bullet and got a new roof. He has done patching work for us in the past but confirmed that it was in fact time to replace the roof.
