I attended Aspire Arts during my senior year in high school in order to apply to Art Center. My teacher, Tiffany Liu, was both harsh and honest to me, but she truly helped me prepare not only my portfolio, but also for the art school experience. But although tough, Tiffany is also one of the most considerate people I've ever met. There is a caring, loving personality to how she does things, and although she holds high standards out of her students, I believe that is because she believes she can get the best out of you. I stumbled upon this wonderful studio after wanting my daughter to have year-long art instruction. She had attended art classes through our local parks and rec department but I wanted her to have more consistency, both in the amount of time and the instructors. Wow did I find the right place! The staff (headed by the incomparable Miss Tiffany) immediately worked with my daughter on various projects, showing her different mediums and techniques and finding what her strengths are. She loves coming every week and working on what interests her, going at her pace and interacting with such committed instructors. As a parent, I really appreciate how well-run the studio is. Students are always working and everyone is respectful of each other's space. I especially love how they highlight students' art work each week in the lobby area by displaying it in professional frames. It's so great to see art being celebrated! I highly recommend this place. The director and staff here are very friendly and you can tell right away how much they care. From the very first day, the director and staff makes the effort to speak to me, asks me about my children and make sure I feel comfortable with leaving them in their care. I see them talking to my children in a very respectful and professional manner; they are patient and they listen to what each child wants to do and wants to learn in art. The place is also very clean, which is amazing to me since they work with glitter, paint, glue...etc.. There is a warmth and positive energy that filled the entire studio and is the cause, I believe, for all the insane creativity I see from the students. The studio is a safe space for the kids and they cheer each other on. My daughter adores Mrs. Tiffany and the rest of the instructors. They are upbeat, positive, fun and--this is important to kids--"cool." They know anime, cartoons, current trends and entertainment. Kids learn from those they respect, and they respect these teachers. Parents get evaluations every few months to see how their child is doing in vital technical areas. A bonus for parents: They take child safety seriously. There are gates to enter the studio, and parents of the tiniest artists must be present before a teacher will dismiss a child. I'm a former long time student and let me just say if I could give 10 stars I would. I love this place and the teachers, especially Ms.Tiffany with all my heart! I came here once a week since the 5th grade all the way till I graduated high school and went off to college. My mom enrolled me in my first class because, like lots of kids, I loved drawing and doodling cartoons. I was really nervous at first but Ms. Tiffany made me feel so welcome. She's eccentric, creative, crazy, fun, great with kids, teenagers and adults, and extremely knowledgeable regarding all the technical aspects of art. (I'm also pretty confident that this knowledge and skill applies to all the teachers at Aspire Art as well). In all the years I went to this school, I was introduced to pretty much every traditional medium of art that I can think of (acrylic, charcoal, chalk pastels, prisma pencils, graphite, water color etc). Tiffany and Aspire Art pushed me to create subjects of art that ranged from still-life, architecture, nature scenes, portraits, replicas of famous paintings, and subjects of my own imagination. It was during my projects/assignments that Ms. Tiffany would teach me about the new mediums I was using or about color theory, light theory, perspective, human proportions/anatomy etc. She would also give me a lot of reign and input into what I wanted to create for my next project. Aspire does a really amazing job growing a balance of creativity and technical skill in students. My learning experience was also very personalized to me even though Ms. Tiffany had several other students of varying age, skill, and goal-set to cater to at every class session. For example, she had students whom she was helping build portfolios to send for admission to prestigious art schools. Personally for me my goal wasn't to apply to art schools..I just wanted to learn as much as I could for myself but no matter how busy Ms. Tiffany was helping to build portfolios for other students' she was always in-tune with my progress on my own projects, my growth and skill, and what I wanted to get out of doing art. She really supported all her students whether they were applying to art schools or just learning for fun. Aspire also helped me win several local art competitions in the time I was there. I'm currently 24 years old and I still paint and draw using the knowledge I've accumulated over the years from Aspire Art and its teachers. I wouldn't say that I'm a professional artist but I'm at that point where I feel confident I have the skills to express myself in art in my free time. I also feel that taking art lessons at Aspire have helped give me skills even outside of art. Some characteristics that comes to mind are patience, persistence, and focus. These were characteristics that I was lucky to have established at a younger age through drawing, painting, and creating at Aspire. I learned to persist through creative blocks or not being able to execute a certain "vision" of what I wanted to create. And starting off as an elementary school kid sitting for 2 hours at a time and focusing on (quietly) coloring/drawing/painting the same subject for weeks was a challenge but honestly I'm confident it was a vital building block in my future successes in high school, college, and my career. When the time comes, I would put my own children at Aspire. I've been taking art classes for about 2 years before I had to leave for college and I loved it! All the teachers are extremely friendly and really know how to help and guide their students. Not only do they teach you the fundamentals, but they do so in a way that is fun and enjoyable. The first time I came inside the studio, I was amazed at how talented every single student was, despite their ages. They have even managed to turn me who had no interest, no knowledge, and no talent in art to eventually creating my own art composition and loving art. I have tried and learned about so many art mediums and wished I could have started my classes earlier.
