My family experienced repeated problems with severe understaffing that appeared to affect nearly every aspect of patient care. At times, it seemed there was only one nurse or aide responsible for as many as 17 patients. Whether that was the official staffing ratio or not, the level of care reflected a facility stretched far beyond its limits. The most upsetting experience was waiting well over an hour after using the call light for help with toileting. By the time anyone responded, my family member had already soiled herself. We ended up providing the care ourselves most of the time because we could no longer depend on timely assistance. On another occasion, a broken bathroom call light left her stranded for approximately 45 minutes, forcing her to attempt an unsafe transfer on her own and creating a serious fall risk. Unfortunately, these were not isolated incidents. During visits, I regularly saw multiple call lights going unanswered, families wandering the halls searching for help, and patients waiting far too long for basic care. At one point, while patients were waiting for assistance, several staff members were gathered in a back room eating together, leaving the floor seemingly unattended. Employees need to stagger breaks. The food was another major disappointment. This facility promotes itself as a high-end rehabilitation center, yet meals were consistently poor quality and lacked the fresh, nutritious foods patients need to heal. My family often felt compelled to bring outside meals, yet there wasn't even a microwave available for reheating food. I was also concerned by several operational issues, including the use of a shared open ice cooler instead of a more sanitary dispensing system. Delays in laboratory testing that could impact dialysis patients, where timely lab results are critical for safe treatment. There was no onsite lab and lab results were not posted or available for 2 days. What saddened me most was seeing vulnerable patients--including veterans and retired healthcare professionals--left waiting for basic needs such as toileting, hygiene, and assistance. No one recovering from surgery, illness, or dialysis should have to worry whether help will come in time. I understand that healthcare facilities everywhere face staffing challenges, but patients and their families deserve safe, compassionate, and timely care. My hope is that management addresses the chronic understaffing and operational shortcomings so future residents receive the level of care this facility promises. PS: The chief of culture Jim White owns casinos. This man has no clue about how healthcare is run or works.

And to be honest i hated every second of it but i was addict and didn't know my ass from my elbow. I was just a lost 18 year old stuck in Texas. But looking back this place taught me more lessons than the 18 years before that. It taught me how to take care of the person next to me whilst still working to better myself, taught me that life has fun things to do when your sober. From being alone to with 12 other guys. I learned how to just live in the moment. I was and still kinda am just a quiet kid who doesnt want to talk about feelings to anyone but sh*t ive learned its normal to have emotions. You may hate this place every second your their but one day you'll understand

Our son completed the in-patient 90 day program at Spearhead a month ago and is now at their sober living facility. I could not be more pleases with the program and the attention he received at Spearhead. I am a moderately critical individual and was very impressed with their competency, thoroughness and dedication to doing their very best to help each person achieve sobriety. They work to give each person the tools to manage their future struggles with addiction and become independent healthy young men. The treatment format is partly a peer group situation. Spearhead so effectively uses the strength of group influence to achieve personal accountability and understanding of addictive behaviors. The staff definitely took time to understand and work with my son individually based on his traits and personality. My particular appreciation goes to Cory, his main counselor. During the monthly weekend visits to Spearhead, a good amount of time is dedicated to educating the loved-one of the afflicted on the necessary skills and actions going forward to help the total family unit achieve long term recovery. The meaning of the phrase "long term family recovery' may not be clear but a family who fully takes advantage of this experience will certainly understand after going through the program. Spearhead provides very helpful information for all involved in the quest to successful defeat the grip of addiction. It is a total package. The families we have become acquainted with through our association with Spearhead, are also quite complimentary. Some have been at this for years, involved with a number of programs and rate Spearhead the best. Overall I am very pleased and appreciative that we found Spearhead, after looking at several other programs. Addiction is a tricky and cruel animal. I have no allusion that the future will be easy going forward for my son and our family. Whatever the future may hold, I know the people at Spearhead have done their very best to help my son overcome his addictions. I will be forever grateful. I highly recommend Spearhead Lodge if you are looking for a very solid addiction treatment program.
