My husband and I came here over two years ago, and he passed away in March. I've chosen to stay here. We used every level of service as he deteriorated. My family and I believe he was as happy, loved, entertained and comforted more here than any other place we could have found. I have felt very protected since Covid 19 started with all protocols enforced. No place is perfect; not even at home. But I don't believe we could have found a place that met our needs better than The Belmont at West Lake Hills. If I did, I'd move.

They entertained him all day, went along with his silly stories, and took such great care of him. My dad had Lewy body Dementia and was in the highest level of care they provided. He ultimately had a stroke last week and passed away. Thankfully, they let us be with him in his last few days and provided support and privacy and lots of comfort. So many of the caregivers, staff, and others who worked there stopped in, some with tears, and told us sweet memories and funny stories about our dad. We love this place and would recommend it to anyone. Also, dad loved their food and often got seconds. Thank you to everyone who cared for him.

What concerned me most, however, were the subtle but unmistakable racial undertones in the interactions--particularly in the difference between how I was treated compared to the other guest.

The house manager lives in the men's apartment downstairs. There is no one to supervise the women's apartment upstairs. The very first weekend one clients boyfriend was over at the house repeatedly late at night. We expressed our concern for our daughter and were told they were addressing the problem but nothing was done 28 days later when we remove our daughter from the home. There is also no supervision of medication. My daughter returned home with medicine she was suppose to be taking while there. They were suppose to take her for a follow up appointment with her doctor and totally dropped the ball and didn't take her. There is no separation of male and female clients. This was totally misrepresented and we would have not placed our daughter there. The clients are very young and immature. The young men there bullied my daughter constantly. The environment was just terrible and unsupportive. There was a tech that was totally inappropriate with my daughter as well and he was fired pretty quickly but continued to stalk my daughter on Facebook and tried to go to meetings to see her. The house itself is dirty and unkept. There are mice and cockroaches. They were often out of food while my daughter was there as well. After my daughter left she realized her id and money was missing. She also had clothes that were stolen as well. There was no supervision and clients did as they pleased There was a constant turnover of clients too. Three girls left the first two weeks of my daughters stay. It was a revolving door. Our concerns were ignored and nothing was done. This place is over priced and didnt live up to their promises. Don't waste your money or your time.

The staff is an incredible team working to make sure you are getting the right treatment and to make sure your right on track. There are plenty of activities, including experiential Monday kind of things which were varying enough to keep it very exciting. Dr. K is super informative, and some of the most interesting sessions were ran by him answering questions and giving super informative answers. As far as recovery goes, this is a pretty deep dive into it. Every day during the week it rotated through 12 step recovery programs (AA,NA,CODA,ACA,Dharma) It really helps that the groups are local as well to kind of make you feel like you do have a support network outside of treatment. (I'm still connected to my sponsors) this place is super covid safe. They Take precautions very seriously so be weary about it If you are some how anti-mask at this point. Lastly, I'd like to end it on the dual diagnosis side of things. I had been going to therapy for years (4+) it wasn't quite working out but here I actually found someone who properly diagnosed me and treated/worked my brain to the point where a majority of my symptoms for my own psychosis were manageable, not by them alone but with effort from me by myself. And with that also came a fellowship that has developed with my friends that also suffer the same diagnosis. I legit don't think there is a place that will help you treat bpd this well researched. Hensley House deserves nothing but personal testimonials for those researching for this subset population. My son was Hensley House 1 from February 2023 - November 2023 with complete growth, accountability, and great relationships within the homes. Given the disease, he relapsed and asked for Hensley House first during treatment discharge planning. Although he would be more home and family sick, he resounded the most happy sober and actively working the steps in recovery - it was at Hensley House. The stars aligned and a bed opened up for him! To think that Patrick Hensley would, not once but revisit, keep continual contact with the discharge coordinator on bed availability for this 1 young man. For the one, Patrick will reach out to tend that lost sheep. My eyes fill with tears to KNOW that Patrick is serving his calling. He sought my son as someone equipped and caring to reach his hand out to. Patrick seeks these men in turmoil, to walk with them, welcomes in love despite how they come through Hensley House doors, and tends to the illness in recovery for a sober life to celebrate thankfully. Come as you are. The Hensley House crew is family to each other and us. Now I'm referring to Patrick Hensley as his mission, but the house managers walk and live the same! The house mangers are fully supported, invested, and believe in their calling to be near auto pilot. The agreement is beyond thorough and these men are empowered in their own accountable journey. The requirements are from long standing learning and show for it! The guys are expected to do the work, but know it's to their gain! Re: the homes. We were, briefly, in 1 sober living before. It was somber and desolate feeling. I toured another, more costly than Hensley House, and it was nice/fair but not nearly as clean or "home" as any 1 of the 3 Hensley House homes. I did say "home" because it is palpable from the first step in the door. The guys have more than enough to feel home. Clean... I mean clean from a mother. Comforts all as a true home. The backyard renovations (3 yards connected) are a vision coming true. Outdoor living as anyone would love. 2 pools, a bridge over connection, basketball court, TV, grills, outdoor seating, and more. Indoor pool tables, shuffleboard, game systems, etc. Fully ready to live in besides clothing and food. The beds are comfortable and fully dressed with so many pillows. Shared refrigerator for 2 residents each. Own gym equipment. My son was in house 1 and now is in 2. All amazing and worth it. We'll drive out of town for him to be in Hensley House and the guys there. True camaraderie and transparency in working the steps. They are brothers living life in recovery. They keep each other on their phones and reach out without a hiccup. That's what my son did, called one of the guys from before when we drove up. The joy in his voice to return back home with Patrick and the guys.... priceless. Much love to Hensley House! We are in a club that nobody wants to be a part of, but now we are amongst peers and friends joined by our loved ones that are working on long-term recovery. At first, I had my reservations given our past with the unrelentless wrath of addiction. Speaking to my son now (since being at Hensley House), I know he is doing well and happy. Hensley House met my son right where he was at, with his own choice to continue in successful recovery. The men at the house share in brotherly love and vulnerable truths. Hensley House is not the "fixer of all," but they sure are well versed at what they know. My son struggles as the rest, but overall is thriving away from home - supported from afar. An analogy I give about Hensley House (for those who are unfamiliar with sober living), is that our son sustained an incomplete spinal cord injury with the potential to walk again. His cells, body memory, muscles, and whole body need to be retrained to learn to walk again. Patrick Hensley and the house managers run alongside as guides along the parallel bars while these men slap leg braces on their debilitated legs and work on holistic recovery. This is not your everyday sober living. Successful placement is crucial to recovery as the preliminary stages are fragile. If possible, put Hensley House in your loved one's tool belt! Patrick and the house managers quickly respond to any communication sent. I have more peace of mind while my son is at Hensley House and our family can realign ourselves. For my wife, "hard" was not the word to describe not being able to bring our son home. A struggling child/loved one not being able to come home? Yes. Not yet...and that is where Hensley House stepped in to tend to the disease of our son that has afflicted our family. As loved ones, we learned QUICKLY that we are not skilled/prepared to take on rehabilitating our son from residential treatment and years of addiction. Patrick and the men serving Hensley House journeyed these torrential waters far before themselves. They now pay forward into others struggling. In my brief time as a patient of Roots Behavioral Health, I have received the worst treatment I…read morehave ever experienced from any establishment, medical or otherwise, in my entire life. For context, I'm currently taking two common psychiatric medications (bupropion aka Wellbutrin and duloxetine aka Cymbalta). Both of these drugs are highly physically addictive and cause horrendous withdrawals if you stop taking them. In fact, Cymbalta's withdrawals in particular are so infamous that they even have a name: Cymbalta syndrome. We're talking shakes, chills, sweats, dizziness, tics, palpitations, diarrhea, puking... definitely not a state that's conducive to being happy or productive or even functional. This practice dropped me like a hot potato, with no warning and no recourse, while I was dependent on these incredibly addictive drugs. And this was just the cherry on top of a long list of rude, dismissive, and sometimes outright disdainful behavior from these people. To start with, communication with this practice is nearly non-existent. If you are the type of psych patient who needs to be able to communicate with your clinician, tough luck. During the short time I was seeing one of their clinicians, the practice could only communicate with patients through an incredibly janky portal program called Klara. Klara requires three-factor authentication (not a typo) every single time you log in. Its minimalist user interface is just a plain white void with no settings or options, so it's not like I had the ability to make it any easier to use. Due to the jankiness of Klara I ended up missing appointments with these folks three separate times - twice because Klara has some kind of final step to finalize my appointment that I somehow did not see, and once because their scheduling system straight-up deleted my appointment. Three times I logged on for my appointment and nobody showed up. To their credit, Roots has since switched to an easier-to-use portal software called Athena, but this isn't without its problems, either. Way back in September they sent out messages saying that they would stop using Klara on October 1st, 2024, and that all patients would have to make Athena accounts before then. I tried several times to set up an account but Athena kept throwing up error messages. I have other doctors who use Athena and I don't have the same problem accessing my accounts with them. When I sent a screenshot of the error messages to the Roots folks, they had no solutions other than to try using my phone instead of my laptop to access the portal (not an option since I have motor skills issues that make it very hard for me to type on a phone). They also confirmed that use of the Athena portal was mandatory in order for me to remain a patient. Since it looked like this was not going to be possible, I sent them several messages requesting help in finding another med management practice whose communication options were more accessible. Big mistake. Unbeknownst to me, Roots has something in their fine print that says they will automatically dismiss anyone who makes noise about looking for another doctor. Something about "ensuring continuity of care". Seems like dropping people without a backup plan is the opposite of continuity of care, but what do I know? I'm "crazy", after all. I don't have enough information to speculate on how this could possibly be legal, but evidently it is. My requests for help finding another practice went unanswered for weeks. Instead, one (1) business day before my next scheduled appointment with Roots, I woke up to a text that said I had been discharged from the practice and that no further communications from me would be answered. They did reply to my frantic messages on Klara enough to explain about the fine print that I had violated, but stopped replying after that. And that was it. Cut loose while dependent on two highly addictive meds, and no way to get more. So now, at nearly 40 years old, I'm having to worry about crapping my pants in public due to the combination of GI symptoms from my untreated anxiety and GI symptoms from medication withdrawals. I have since found another practitioner, but NOT with any help from Roots. Avoid these people if you can. Utterly psychopathic behavior from people who purport to be in the mental health business. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
