Both have been nice but I just feel that I am rushed during all these appointments. Colloquially people joke about the 5-10 minute doctor visits and I feel that way when I go to Skin Pros. Maybe that's the way it is at all dermatology offices.... The front office staff is average, I feel like a number when I check in, not as a human being, but again, they see many many people a day and that can make the receptionists, a bit curt. There's a free parking lot in the back of the building.

Everything's on line in one way or another. So here you go, a review of my first dermatological visit to this practice. Be happy I spare you a discussion of my symptoms. Importantly, it was easy to make an appointment on the phone within a reasonable amount of time. New Patient Reception was flawless with all INSU having been verified in advance. Wait time short hardly giving time to open an IPhone. Initial prep smooth with normal first visit questions. Time spent with practitioners sufficient. Thorough exam was accomplished, procedures completed and I never felt rushed or in any way felt I was not being given personal attention. I did feel that sufficient attention was given to me and my needs. I have to say, the experience was actually enjoyable as the banter helped put me at ease as we were taking care of business, so to speak. I fully recommend the practice for its ease of access, it's professionalism and attention/concern for the patient.

Shame on South County Dermatology…read more Barrington based Megan Blanco, NP has served this practice with her expertise and caring for over a decade. Then they closed her office without providing any information to her loyal patients leaving them to fend for themselves. Ms. Blanco and her wonderful staff have landed at Fenley Dermatology but are left without their patient's records and contact information. This is unethical and detrimental to good patient care.

The parking area can be crowded (the building has several medical offices), but there is always space available. I've been coming to this location for about 5 years now for bi-annual skin cancer screenings. I've had my share of cancers surgically removed as well as various suspicious looking spots frozen off. I've always seen Dr. Laura Della Torre. She is pleasant, professional and kind. I'm very happy with her services and I highly recommend booking an appointment with her.

I was referred to this practice by my GP who had a particular physician in mind but knew they would…read morehave a full schedule and to not expect an appointment with that physician. The first open appointment was with a PA which I was given. The office is accessed from the back of the building on the lower level. There is plenty of parking in this area. Once in the back door, the office is straight ahead. The staff all seem very busy. The were pleasant enough but also not chatty. Slide open the window, take my information, told to wait. Window closes. Pretty standard. I was the only one in the waiting area so I wandered around a looked at some of the information they had available on skin care treatments offered. Almost spa-like services. The reception/waiting area is very bare bones with no windows and hard seats. It took several minutes to be called back where I was placed in an exam room. The tech who brought me to the exam room verified why I was being seen. I expressed my concerns. She seemed very pleasant and left. I waited in that room quite a while. I could hear someone coming and going in the hall so one provider must have been going from room to room. When it was my turn the PA arrived with the tech. He greeted me, verified why I was there and then began speaking to the tech like I wasn't in the room. He sat on a stool, took out a magnifying glass and started looking over my face. Not at something I was there for, just all over my face. While doing this he is rattling off technical words to the tech who was writing everything down as he said it. Apparently he believes I have rosacea. For which he did not offer to treat me. Weird. If you catch that early it's treatable. He wasn't even sure at first it is rosacea and after dictating to the tech for a while changed his diagnosis to 'just make down rosacea' but then no treatment plan was offered. Once done with that he stood up asked what skin care I used and offered a cream for a secondary issue I was there for. My primary issue is a concern for skin cancer. He completely ignored that. I pointed it out. He ignored it again. I pointed it out again. He side stepped. I insisted he address it and he described how 'sometimes' a condition will occur and then described to me a pre-cancerous condition that is exactly what I had described to him at the beginning. He didn't tell me he didn't think it was an issue or he thinks it's something else or address the spot on my face in any way at all. He just kept avoiding the discussion until I forced the issue. I felt so uncomfortable with the experience after a few days I called the office and spoke to someone about my concerns. They assured me the treatment was the usual method and they would speak to the PA and get back to me. They never called me back, but the PA called and left me a voice message saying if I didn't understand the treatment to call him back. I do understand the treatment. I just want to know what is being done to improve this practitioners ability to treat patients. To respect their concerns. To communicate better. He treated me like a bug under a microscope then tried to walk out of the room as soon as his examination was complete. He was literally backing toward the door as he tried to end the appointment before I had gotten answers. I never received a call back from the person I spoke with and at this point I have lost all confidence in this group. On top of that, my insurance denied the claim. Great.

I have a long history of skin cancer, and saw Dr. Brooks Kimmis earlier this year for a semi-annual…read morewhole-body skin check. He was quietly professional, and appeared to provide a thorough examination. He biopsied one area, which was later confirmed as a squamous cell. I am also regularly seen at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. My Nurse Practitioner there saw me only 60 days after my examination by Dr. Kimmis. She biopsied 3 additional and separate areas, all of which were confirmed as skin cancer - - 1 basal cell and 2 more squamous cell. Upon calling Dr. Kimmis to report this development and express my surprise and disappointment that he had not identified these additional cancers, his sole response was: "Thanks for telling me."

After seeing three different dermatologists for a rash on my face that kept recurring, I went to…read moresee Dr. Feder, who was the first one ever to give me a patch test on my arm, which determined that I am allergic to a bizarre sounding but commonly occurring chemical called cocamidapropyl betaine. Ewwwwgh. It is in nearly every shampoo, many toothpastes, and random other things. You have to read every label or look it up on the EWG website to determine if a product contains it. He had me try three different Rx ointments until one finally worked and my face is rash free. Dr. Feder is SO good, that he is 100 % booked and is not taking new patients AT THIS TIME. He takes so much time with his patients, answers all questions in English as opposed to Medicalese. He is also so calm and sweet, he puts his patients at ease immediately. With full disclosure, I must add that Dr. Feder is married to my cousin. I am in no way biased for that reason. I even visited three other dermatologists upon moving back to RI 8 years ago, because I didn't want to have my cousin's husband examining me :-). However, exasperated with a recurring rash (for which one lovely dermatologist suggested I try covering with a makeup primer!!). I bit the bullet and played the cousin card, because I knew he was THAT good. His nurses examine me in places I am too embarrassed to show a doctor who is married to my cousin! He really is the BEST and has been frequently been listed in RI Monthly's "BEST OF" for doctors in RI. I hope he will eventually be taking new patients. Ya never know!

Dr. Feder is extremely kind, thorough and easy to speak with. It appears that most dermatologists…read morethese days are only interested in giving Botox or other procedures to pad their bank account. Not so with Dr. Feder. He is one of the last of a dying breed of dermatologists. If you are able to get an appointment with him, consider yourself lucky!

I was advised they would speak to the provider because he only had one no show which was two or three years ago. I was left a voicemail that said the Doctor said she's going to refill his prescription once.But you need to find another doctor I called for the office manager to call me back two times on two different dates and still never received a phone call. The strange thing about this the last time my son was seen I believe was last August. As he had a year of his medication.. I called my husband after the appointment and told him...I believed the doctor was racist, simply by the way she was acting towards me and my son. Back story:I was seeing a different provider that no longer was there and this was my first time seeing Dr.schappell. point being after a year when he finally needed his medications again and I tried to make the appointment. Now is somehow discharged and nobody will call me back. Both nurses( who were super nice and confused)stated it must have been a mistake.But again no one has called me back. Shame on you, it doesn't matter if you own the practice.You should treat everybody the same! At follow-up appointment, when treatment area was infected, nurse named "Paul" glanced at problem area from 2 - 3 feet away and said "it's supposed to look like that", so I ended up bringing it to the attention of a nurse elsewhere, who agreed it was infected and started me on treatment, which worked. Because of nurse Paul's lack of care / attention, I will not be returning, and will advise others to seek treatment elsewhere.

Beware and do your own checking. I ended up with a surprise $600 bill after I found they were not in network for my insurance.THEY DO NOT INFORM YOU! And they charge outrageous prices to the insurance who absolutely only pays a fraction and you are left with the rest. Such a racket!
