My friend and I had a bizarre experience here. We called ahead to confirm they did inner lip tattoos--they said yes and booked us for a week later. We arrived and filled out our forms. We were the only people in the waiting area and there were two employees sitting behind the counter. Eventually, a man (presumably our artist) came out, sat behind the counter, started eating pizza, and didn't acknowledge us. Without looking up, he said, "I'll take your money, but you're gonna be disappointed." At first we were confused and weren't even sure if he was talking to us. When we said we still wanted to try, he basically said we'd be stupid to get them--while repeating that he'd still happily take our money. He never introduced himself, never made eye contact, and seemed irritated by our presence . I have 21 tattoos and I really appreciate when an artist gives me advice and honestly, I appreciate that he was trying to warn us about wasting our money, but his hostility and lack of respect was a deal breaker. We ended up walking out because I didn't feel comfortable letting him tattoo us. All of this could have been avoided if they had simply told us they didn't want to do inner lip tattoos instead of letting us book. Absolutely the most horrific place you can go for a tattoo. I had their newest artist cote costa or dogwork tatoo, come to me and say I could have a free tattoo as long as he was able to choose it. He showed up for 3 out of 12 sessions cancelling the others and then telling me I would have to pay for the tattoo I didn't want and didn't choose. Due to his being arrested, and his girlfriend losing her job. The have lots of great reviews about skin infections and all sorts of other rip off situations. I went into the shop to get a tattoo. I was very excited to get a new piece of body art. However, I was denied service because of my HIV status. This made me feel worthless and sub-human. Upon researching the laws in RI I found that it is illegal for them to ask HIV Status on a screening form for a tattoo. I also found that the American's with Disabilities Act classified living with HIV/AIDS as a protected class because even in a tattoo shop they are to assume universal precautions. I called Inflicting Ink regarding laser tattoo removal & spoke to a gentleman named Cameron. I told him how I found the shop (Groupon) & explained my tattoo situation. He asked me to send a photo of the tattoo so he could give me an estimate of number of sessions/cost. Keep in mind I told him 4 important facts. 1. I found them on Groupon. 2. I've been researching process and cost. 3. The size of my tattoo 4. I wanted to buy all the sessions I'd need up front in cash. After sending a photo of my 3x3 tattoo he came back with a price of $150 per session or a package deal of $350 for 3 sessions. He said I'd need about 6-8 to completely remove it and about 3 to lighten it. He did note that it varies from person to person so he couldn't guarantee how many sessions I'd need which was totally understandable. He also stated "I can usually get away with charging less if you purchase all 6 up front". I thought that was a strange quote since I gave him those 4 facts up front. I had no problem paying for 6 seasons up front and I reminded him of the advertised deal which was 3 2x2 sessions for $143 or 3 6x6 sessions for $256. My tattoo is between sizes at only 3x3 so I offered to purchase 3 sessions for $256 cash, directly through the shop rather than going through Groupon, if he would honor the Groupon price of $256, and also allowed me to buy two 3 session deals for a total of 6 sessions. Cash. Mind you, my tattoo is much smaller than 6x6 for $256, so I really thought purchasing the $256 deal was fair to both of us. Also, prior to his response I realized that I made a mistake, it was actually $217 for the 6x6 area so I did make note of that. Now at this point I could've just purchased a Groupon for $143 or $217, but since my tattoo was between sizes I wasn't sure which one to purchase. Plus, I wanted to get his updated quote after he was reminded of the above advertised deals on Groupon. I did NOT expect what happened next... He tells me that he "dislikes Groupon" because they put incorrect prices and "play around with the prices". He also said he been going back and forth with them to fix it, but since I would have no way of knowing that he would honor the $217 price, but id only be able to purchase 1 package of 3. After those 3 sessions he would have to charge me retail for any additional seasons (most likely 3 more). Then advised me not to "bother buying it through Groupon" as if he was doing ME a favor. The reality is that I would be doing HIM a favor because Groupon takes a cut. Also, Groupon doesn't "play around" with prices, they raise and lower the prices with comparable offers in the area as well as the demand. If Groupon sees there is a high demand for a particular deal, they raise the price automatically, which is actually a great feature HE benefits from. I also didn't even know the shop existed until I discovered them on Groupon, so they can't be all that bad. Shocked by his response, but still willing to make a deal I said I was sorry he was having so many issues with Groupon and then reminded him that my tattoo isn't 6x6, it's actually half the size. He tells me that Groupon messed up the sizes it's really supposed to be 2x2, 4x4 and 6x6. So it would indeed be $217 for a package of 3 for my 3x3 tattoos. You can't make this up! He also said that other places charge way more than he does and referenced one place in particular. After our conversation I looked them up I discovered they are physician supervised, so the higher price is definitely justified, and had really great deals. It was a no brainer to go with the place he recommended I look into. They weren't impossible to work with and didn't leave me feeling like I was shopping for a used car. read more

Have been here three different times over the past 10 years or so. Once for a tattoo, once for a naval piercing and then to re-pierce my ears that wouldn't stay open anymore! Got a tattoo done here and it faded within a couple of months of getting it. They had told me if it begins to fade within a year I can come back for a free touch up, the fact that they even offer this should have a been a red flag but I got the tattoo anyways. I called to get a touch up because as promised it faded within the first 6 months. The person who answered the phone was hostile and rude the entire interaction pretty much blaming me for the fading even though I have many other tattoos from other artists and they haven't faded in the slightest. Long story short they never called me back and never did the touch up never go here. There are much better places that don't charge $100 for a small tattoo that just fades months later. read more

at first Jef seemed like a legit cool guy that was about business and making his customers happy...until I began my chase after being asked to leave a $150 deposit if I was serious and wanted him to work on my design. I left my deposit without any hesitations and he told me he wouldn't be able to start it for another two weeks, which I said no problem. He asked me to send him pictures of ideas and things I wanted for my sleeve...I sent it to him a few days later via email. I initially went to see Jef early January...I never heard anything back from him until late February after I emailed to ask how the design was coming along. He responded on Feb 25th apologizing for getting back to me a little late and that his wife had a serious health condition and he'd be out from March 9th to March 20th. I apologized for his situation and offered him to hold off being I thought his personal matter was farther more important than a tattoo. Either way, he offered to finish the design and piece it together via email being I'm in Massachusetts and his shop is deep in Rhode Island. I said that worked perfect so that way I could see if I was happy with the design and if not we could make changes and I could come down to start the process once we decided the design was satisfactory to my liking. Again, I waited until April 5th to touch basis with him since I had not heard from him and again showed sympathy for his personal situation with his wife's health...he emailed me back stating he had been with his wife and to call the shop to get his schedule and set something up...I reminded him of viewing the design again, and on April 7th he told me he'd be able to send me pix of it when he returned to shop on April 15th...and It is now April 19th and I had to reach out to him yet again regarding this project... Due to the lack of communication and lack of keeping his word on anything he said since day one really made me not comfortable with him doing the work for me, so I chose to cancel with him and ask for my refund and proceed with another shop. He now emails me saying his rates for designs and how much time he spent on it and that he would refund my deposit based on the amount I owe for his time... I can't imagine anyone would pay for something they don't even know really exists so I say exactly that to him...and he now decides to say that he can't send anything via email with line of work, and to come in, get my piece and the partial refund..SAY WHAT!!!??? He told me he'd send pix of it via email, now he says he can't...you have got to be kidding me! I'm a very understanding and patient person, but I also belief in good customer service and holding people to their word...I believe I was not only patient from day 1 but also extremely sympathetic and understanding to his personal matter...I even felt bad sending him an email to cancel but I knew that it's what I needed to do for me being I wasn't being provided with the service in which I was promised. I work very hard for my money and I don't believe I should have to pay anything I did not receive...and to be BS'd about how he is unable to send it via email now is ridiculous...I have to pick up this piece and pay for it? Very Very unprofessional...and mind you guys...he is charging me $75 for his supposed 2 1/2 to 3 hour work! over $75? seriously? I would never recommend this place to anyone...very unprofessional, unjust and simply lacks customer satisfaction! read more

Inflicting gets 5/5 for both tattoo experience, and tattoo removal experience. The latter is harder to find. I've been removing a tattoo on my back for roughly two years now, with a total of about 8 treatments taking place at Inflicting Ink. The tattoo removal process is long, painful, and expensive...if a treatment center attempts to convince you otherwise they are either amateurs or completely inept. Cameron is professional, caring, and awesome at what he does. Pricing is extremely reasonable here. They are using a laser that trumps every other, and I've tried multiple from upscale places in Seattle and Portland, Inflicting is by far more effective. Don't waste your time, money, or pain going to anyone else. I've relocated to the West Coast, but every time I visit RI an appointment with Cameron is my top priority...and I've given up trying to find treatment locations nearby me, Inflicting is the real deal. read more

Just had my first tattoo and the whole experience was unlike anything I was expecting. I knew artists to be generally cocky and tough to speak with until they are comfortable with you. Not the case at all at inflicting. Jamie was extremely accommodating, I had a very specific design and placement and he did exactly what I wanted happily. He suggested gold instead of yellow and I'm so glad he did because it looks great. I was warned I would get hooked on ink and I am. Love love love! I can not say it enough. This place is amazing for both tattooing and piercing. I got my dermals done in NC 4 years ago and this last year one of them has been giving me problems. I see Jeff pretty often for him to fix it. He is absolutely amazing. He is so professional and knows exactly what he is doing. I am never nervous or worried when I see him. He's very clean and precise and makes sure you're not uncomfortable or feel much pain when he is working. I'm always bombarding him with questions and he is so knowledgable. He never keeps me guessing or wondering and always helps me make the right decisions when it comes to my dermals. This last week we ended up having to take one of my dermals out. It literally took Jeff two minutes to take out and I felt zero pain. I will definitely be back in a couple of months to put my piercing back in!
