We tried opening one door to a random building, but it was locked and we don't even know if that was a building that we were supposed to go to. We stood outside with another couple who are also wondering the same thing who would let have liked to go inside, but we did not see any volunteers around. We stood outside, taking photos as we did not want to interrupt any businesses or homes nearby. Great history. It is definitely worth seeing a perfect 5 to 10 minute check it out what type of activity.

This marker is right on the border of Maryland and Delaware and points out the line that divided…read moreMaryland and what was then Pennsylvania but is now Delaware. There really isn't a good spot to stop to read the marker. It reads, "Eastern End of Transpeninsular Line Between Maryland and Three Lower Counties of Pennsylvania (Now Delaware) (Fenwick Island). First run 1751, agreed upon 1760 and Finally ratified 1769 by King George, III, this ending almost a century of controversy between the proprietors of the two provinces." The line is at approximately 38 degrees 27 minutes north and solved the disagreement between the Penns of Delaware and the Calverts of Maryland. There were a few different maps back in the day and these caused some troubles as to who paid taxes in what amounts to whom. It is the very beginning of US 50 which continues another 3000+ miles to Sacramento. The bridge is named for the former mayor of Ocean City who served from 1970 to 1985. The bridge was built in 1942 and is planned to be replaced in several years. There is no toll to cross the bridge. It has four lanes for cars and there are pedestrian walkways on each side. There is only a curb between the traffic lane and the walkway - there is no other barrier for much of the crossing. It is an active deck plate girder bascule bridge. The deck is 45.9 feet wide.
