While a few of the caregivers displayed a genuine desire to help, largely the lack of overall training was evident in the approach to caregiving tasks and safety. There were multiple caregivers that were sent with little to no training, while we had CNA's inform us they were here only "to keep eyes on and babysit" the client. When addressing concerns with Director of In-Home care Debi Martin, our hours were cut and qualified caregivers was replaced with companion care. Issues with billing not only privately but overcharging the Department of Veterans Affairs for hours that were not received. Billing for hours scheduled, not for time actually provided. Again, when addressed hours were cut/changed and caregiver changes were made. There was rarely communication from the office on changes of schedule or staffing. Any attempts to voice concerns or provide feedback were met with hostility, creating a tense and unwelcoming environment for both caregivers and clients alike while fearing retaliation. The breaking point was when a trainee who was speaking inappropriately to the client and using homophobic slurs; which was reported by the caregiver training them to Clatsop Care. Director of In-Home care, Debi Martin then addressed the situation by calling the trainee who placed the call on speaker phone which was over heard by the caregivers and myself. Never addressed the situation, but talked poorly about our family stating how difficult we were. Mind you, I haven't talked to Debi in 11 months and believe this was in response to us noting the incorrect billing to the VA. We immediately terminated services through the company due to the unprofessionalism shown by employees and management and then notified the VA. It's disheartening to know this is the only service with a contract with the VA in the county and leaves veterans unsafe with inadequate care. Without suitable training and supportive leadership, the quality of care provided is compromised, leaving clients and caregivers alike feeling dissatisfied and unsupported. I would caution anyone considering Clatsop Care In Home Services to seek alternative options and request the VA change their policies.

While she was there, she thoroughly enjoyed the other residence and the care providers. She was happy and content. Canterbury is a lovely facility and they offer many daily activities for the residents, which allows them to engage with each other on a regular basis. The negatives; The food in the dining room is heavy on carbohydrates and starches. We dined with mom several times and found the food passable but not enjoyable. Canterbury is ridiculously short staffed! Mom would call us in the wee hours of the morning requesting assistance to the restroom or other personal needs. We were nickeled and dimed for items we didn't need or request. Every service or item is changed as a line item on your monthly statement. We purchased personal care items yet would find their items in mom's room. Amended timeline - January 29, 2025 - 1st Covid outbreak February 14, 2025 - Norovirus quarantine September 28th, 2025 - Our mom tests positive for covid Quarantined September 28 - October 14, 2025 September 29 - falls while being assisted in the bathroom. Does not require hospitalization October 10 - falls while being assisted in the bathroom. Transported to Peace Health via ambulance. Diagnosed with an acute non-displaced fracture of L-2 October 14 - *3rd fall in restroom while being assisted by an aide. Transported to Peace Health via ambulance. She is diagnosed with closed fracture in her lumbar vertebrae and scalp laceration After 3 *supervised falls in short succession - we felt Canterbury was no longer a safe environment as she was a known fall risk. While the aids are kind and compassionate, we feel that additional training is imperative to prevent others from going through what our beloved parent experienced. Sadly mom is no longer with us and we feel the falls drastically contributed to her demise.

My experience was that the building is nice but they are understaffed and often give minimal care. My relative went several weeks without being bathed. The food was poor and the facility could not get a handle on Covid19 control, constantly on lockdown. Many of the issues are probably occurring at many facilities but this is supposed to be one of the best and at a cost of over 6k per month. I would not want to be there without a strong patient advocate. The other review says it is like family.....wouldn't want to meet their family.

My Father-In-Law has lived at the Colonial Residence for 5 years now. It is located in Stillwaters…read moreEstates where he lived for many years before having to move into assisted living. This was great, many of his former neighbors already lived there, so he already had friends. He was very reluctant to move, but now enjoys living there. This is a very clean, well staffed assisted living facility. We go every week to do his laundry and take him to lunch, so I have gotten to know many of the residents and staff there. There is a wonderful library for the residents, and even has a weekly lending partnership with the Timberland Regional Library System. The dining room is always set up like fine dining, attention to resident individual requirements are done well. My father-in-law for a while was on an almost pureed diet, they managed to make it more than tolerable for him. There are movies, trips, and entertainment brought in constantly. A few times my Father-In-Law has had medical emergencies, the staff is very calm and professional. He once had something that made him bleed allot, blood got everywhere. The staff made sure before the ambulance arrived to pack I a clean set of clothes, contacted us and let us know the ETA of him arriving at the hospital (which is about 3 blocks away). When we brought him home, they had cleaned the entire apartment, and not a trace of blood remained. The RN on duty came to great us at the door, double checked discharge orders and took good care of him. There is also an entertainment ares that has a pool table, juke box, and other fun things. Family and friends can join family for dining and Thanksgiving and Christmas you can enjoy you holiday meal in their dining room. Food was really good and NO CLEAN UP for us..... This place is open to those who do not live in Stilwaters Estates, it is the nicest facility, and for what you get a great bargain. (Assisted living is always expensive). I would live there if I had too. The ONLY negative is the television, there is a weird version of satellite that doesn't allow any options to get more channels which we find annoying. These folds spend allot of time in their apartments, for goodness sakes, let them pay for more if they want.
