Friendly neighborhood pharmacy. They are very helpful - when I had some issues with a prescription, they called places to help sort it out and I had the meds in no time. They are usually very quick to fill my rx. Sometimes a staff member is in a bad mood but usually they are all very friendly. If I have to point out any cons, they don't have an app or automated phone refill service like I have experienced with other pharmacies. You have to call them to give the rx number to the person on the other line and they don't let you know when your meds are ready to be picked up. Not a big deal though - the rx is usually ready in 5 mins and if you just show up, they'll fill it right away with very little wait. read more

i am glad i was able to pick up my scrip at astoria chemists for my scratched cornea (no clue how it happened) as the pharmacy tech and then the pharmacist both explained in simple how to apply eye drops. full service pharmacy that carry what the big overpriced chain drugstores have but in a smaller space. good to support a mom and pop local biz in astoria. they also carry soothing throat drops that are hard to find at most drug stores . 4 stars on my yelp meter. read more

I've had great experiences here. Strangely, what drew me in was the plain facade of the place. It seems as if a new pharmacy opens up every few seconds in Astoria, complete with LED window lights and signs galore to announce their arrival. This place was unassuming and seems to have been in the neighborhood for awhile, and I've decided that my pharmaceutical loyalty lies here! One reason I love this place is because they are speedy! I don't ever remember waiting more than 10 minutes for them to fill my prescription. Compare that to a place like Rite-Aid, where I have to make a second trip back to pick up medications. I don't know how limited their selections are, but I've had prescriptions for antibiotics and steroids filled here. The people working there are nice, as well. read more

If you like supporting locally owned, no-frills small business with more friendly, personalized customer service, this is a pharmacy I would recommend. They are also extremely fast. Literally took me less than 5 minutes to get my prescriptions filled and there were two other customers with me. The pharmacist also answered my questions about my prescriptions and didn't get annoyed. He was both kind and courteous while agreeing to stay open a little after closing to deliver medication when I was in a bind. He went above and beyond the call to help ease a potentially very problematic situation with my wife. Because of him a crisis was averted, and I'm beyond grateful for this simple powerful act of caring and kindness. This is a ups access point but the lady who works there just decides to not let me drop off my packages. No explanation. Also at times when I'm able to drop off, she refuses to scan the item which is standard in all ups access points. Such a shady and shitty place. I would not recommend this place to my enemy. read more

Astoria Chemists is one of those gems that shine through the hustle and bustle of the often impersonal world of the big city. Not a perfect gem, but good enough to well serve our community. If you are looking for something unusual, you will probably find it here. Doctors have this tendency to have you get that non-prescription something that CVS, RiteAid, or Duane Read don't carry. There's a good chance you'll find it at Astoria Chemists; I have. One of the pharmacists, Steven, is the epitome of the friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, bend-over-backwards-to-help-ya, neighborhood pharmacist. The other guy is a little gruff at first, but once you've established yourself as a regular, he warms up to you and is just as helpful as Steven. Although the assistants can be a little clueless at times (what store doesn't have those!), they are generally helpful and accurate. Another lady roams the store often (wife of one of the owners??); she will not only point you in the right direction for your non-prescription needs, but will hold a friendly conversation with you. MetroPlus is accepted here, as well as many other commercial and public insurances. (These guys are really fast on the computers, so don't expect that to slow you down.) They're pretty good at processing non-prescription items that are included in your insurance's formulary. This is a small place. Don't expect to buy cat food, milk, greeting cards, batteries (except for some medical devices), or other things that clog the aisles of the mega-"drug" stores. And don't expect sale prices -- although the unusual non-prescription items seem to be reasonably priced (often not the case at the big stores). The facade of the store seems to be taken right out of the 1950's. Maybe that's a good thing -- we think of that period as being one where your pharmacist knew you, talked to you, and was helpful. Go inside Astoria Chemists and you'll experience some of that positive nostalgic vibe. read more

Had to downgrade (I no longer go here) they are very crowded and slow lately no matter what time you come in. My Wife still has issues getting the generic instead of brand every time she refills. Every time I walk by there is a line no matter what time of day or night. The last couple of times I used them I call for the Rx in the morning maybe like 10am and come by at 3 or 4pm it's still not ready. Well they were good for about a year but I guess it became too popular and now way too many people go there they can't handle the traffic. I will still stop by maybe for some toiletries but not for an Rx you'll be waiting 10-15 min. read more

I used to live around the corner from here. I chose to use this pharmacy and pharmacists as opposed to the other drugstores in the neighborhood (which were a further walk) where mental defectives worked. Let me point out that this is really more of a pharmacy; they're not going to stock the plethora of items that are usually found at a CVS or Duane Reade. In essence, it's a little bare bones here. The Chemists are located directly across from the local hospital, which is helpful. They have most cold and allergy meds and pretty much anything for what ails you. The pharmacists I encountered were always very friendly and helpful if I needed to get a generic med, or something cheaper than what my doc prescribed. read more

I Googled Astoria Chemists to get their phone number and yelp came up as the first result. When I read the lukewarm reviews, I had to sign up with Yelp to write one myself. This is a GREAT pharmacy. As the name implies, it is a CHEMIST, not a convenience store. The pharmacists are knowledgeable and the staff will bend over backward to get you what you need. I was able to rent a wheelchair for $20/week and they ordered crutches for me when the ones they had in stock weren't just right for me and it came the next day. And they let me keep the ones that were not just right so I could get around meanwhile. They will special order anything you want that they don't have in stock. What I most like is they know ME when I go in there. I'm not a faceless Rx. That means a lot. read more

I called them and thought to myself wow they should drop off the right meds to my house since it was their error and sure enough the lead pharmacist offered to drop it off on his way home.. This is a great pharmacy! I have been a customer for years. I used to live around the corner. I moved several blocks away but have kept Astoria Chemist as my pharmacy - because they are awesome. I have never had to wait longer than a few minutes to get a prescription. Any time there has ever been any issues with my insurance coverage, etc. they have always been very helpful. The pharmacists are nice and willing to help and answer any questions. This is a local independent business where I am treated as a person. This is the exact opposite of my experience with any of the large chain stores - where I am nothing more than a number and a transaction. Many of the staff have been there for years, which indicates to me that they treat their employees well as well. I have never had a bad experience here. They are great. read more

I absolutely LOVE Astoria Chemists. One of my (many) doctors is in Astoria and instead of waiting to get home and go out of my way to get my scripts filled I walk down the block to Astoria Chemists. I literally pass 5-6 other pharmacies to get there but I will choose them every time. Mt Sinai Queens is located right there in Astoria(as well as a decent amount of medical offices) so that why I am assuming there are a lot of pharmacies around. Anyway Astoria Chemists is absolutely amazing. The staff members are exceptionally friendly and personable, they ALWAYS have my medications in stock and they are always filled within 10 minutes...a lot better than waiting an hour at Rite Aid. Now if you are looking for potato chips, dog food or cases of soda they don't carry those things...they do have the basic necessities like OTC cold and allergy medications, OTC analgesics like Advil and Aleve, antacids, first aid stuff like band-aids, gauze and medical tape and I am sure a lot more. If you have a prescription that needs to be filled and fast with a smile this is the place to be...if you're looking for house hold cleaning supplies or stuff for your pet..go to Rite Aid or CVS or any of the other chain stores. I will always support Astoria Chemists not only because they do a great job, but it's the mom and pop businesses that make New York City a little better. read more

This place is awesome! I switched here after too many encounters with Duane Reade where they were just too judgmental when I filled the prescriptions. I initially called to see if they had the med in stock. they said they did and when i came it was my fault initially because I didn't specify I wanted the brand which is cheaper with my insurance (I had called to ask if the brand was in stock , but didn't specify when I got there). Anyway, they filled the generic and when I realized the mistake and told them they said they would order the brand because they didn't' have it and I could pick it up tomorrow. I was fine with that. Well, at around 8:30 pm that night, I get a call from the guy I spoke with earlier who said he wasn't there when I came by and had put the medication aside for me! That's why it wasn't available anymore. I was sooo impressed they called me to tell me this that I will be using this pharmacy in the future to fill my prescriptions!
