Seriously, this is the pharmacy that a sick person's dreams are made of. I have been chronically ill since birth (37 years...) with a rare autoimmune disease, and I have absolutely HAD IT with all of these chain pharmacies treating me like a number. As one could imagine, I take a ton of different types of medications, and as a result, I have a lot of experience trying to navigate through the healthcare system. In addition, I have a 15-year career working in healthcare administration in NYC, so I have seen every ugly aspect of the industry known to man. As my health has declined with age, it has become increasingly difficult to manage my life, but what makes it worse is constantly having to argue with pharmacies/pharmacists about filling routine prescriptions. If it's not one thing, it's something else: opening late/closing early, losing scripts, overcharging, and just generally making the patient feel like they are a giant inconvenience, simply for trying to get well. This is not the case at The Chemist Shop. I started seeing a new doctor in the fall, and he would only send his prescriptions to this pharmacy. At first, I thought it was kind of annoying to impose that on the patient, especially since The Chemist Shop isn't in my neighborhood (I live on the UES and I am disabled, so I imagined having to trek down to midtown every month for one or two medications, rather than going to the Duane Reade at the corner of my block). But then I learned that they deliver to me, which doesn't make sense (lol), but it definitely changed my tune immediately. Next: everyone I've ever spoken to here is really freaking nice. Like sincerely nice. I hope I have their names right, but Nicolette and Steven have been two pharmacists that I've worked with several times, and unlike any chain I've had the displeasure of dealing with recently, the employees at The Chemist Shop actually care about what the hell they are doing. Over the past few years, I've started to run into a lot of issues at my local Duane Reade, where the pharmacists would implement their own internal rules and guidelines about what THEY felt was best for the patient, regularly overriding the prescriptions written by my actual physicians. it's absolute BS and has frequently caused unecessary barriers to my care. In addition to my underlying condition, I have had multiple unrelated health issues since January, which required a lengthy hospitalization, multiple surgeries, and a grueling recovery process that I'm still chipping away at. I can say with full confidence that if I had been getting my prescriptions sent to Duane Reade that it would have been an absolute nightmare. Instead, I decided to stay with The Chemist Shop and even asked some of my other providers to start sending scrips there instead, and the attention to detail and customer service have been unmatched. Another issue that I face at chain pharmacies is the general lack of interest in thinking outside the box or basic problem-solving. There is almost no patient support, let alone actual patient advocacy. Again, not the case at The Chemist Shop. At DR and CVS, I have had prescriptions immediately rejected when the insurance didn't want to pay or when the computer produced an error. No call from the store, just radio silence (and no filled prescription...). I'm constantly having to hunt down medications, wait on endless holds, and don't even get me started on the lack of accountability. It doesn't even matter anymore if you remember who you spoke with when you were given the wrong information. The person you name is mysteriously always off the day you cite their existence, and as if that's not unprofessional enough, they are also almost always trashed by the clerk standing in front of you. I can't even call it a breakdown in communication, because that implies that there was an existence of communication in the first place. At The Chemist Shop, when an issue arises, they WANT TO FIX IT. They will offer to call your doctor if they have questions; they will look into the price of a medication if your insurance won't cover it; and they realize that the last thing anyone wants is to be sick, so they seem to try to carry the burden wherever they can. IMAGINE THAT. As I'm writing this, I realize how ridiculously over-the-top this review is, but when you've been screwed with for decades by people who are literally employed to HELP OTHER PEOPLE, it's insanely refreshing when you come across a business that understands that a little goes a really long way, especially when you feel like shit. So if you are as disgusted as I am by the direction our healthcare system has gone in and are looking for a reliable place to get your meds, you'd be crazy not to try this place out. I promise - the only thing you'll really have to worry about is focusing on getting better. read more

straight up awful. gave them 1 star, because zero is not an option. sent me a message to confirm a delivery date of medication. I confirmed it. botched the delivery date, so I missed my injection date - zero care, zero sympathy, zero desire to solve the problem. and they held my prescription hostage, wouldn't allow me to transfer the script to another pharmacy who could actually provide the medication. I've been ordering from this company for well over a year. One of my syringes arrived broken in my last delivery. I messaged them to get it replaced considering it's about $90 dollars per syringe. No response. Yet when I call them to get a new prescription they answer right away. I'm tired of these companies only responding when you're offering more money - but not standing behind their product when something goes wrong on their watch. read more

So I go in yesterday to pick up my medicine and as the last few times I've been in there there's no warm greeting and borderline rude if not actually rude Buy the girls at the front desk. no Initial eye contact no smile no nothing. the girl actually didn't even put her head up to look at me when I was at the counter. But, she was helpful enough to let me know. Oh! you're way too early! you can't pick this up until the 16th but the earliest I can give it to you is the 12th on Monday. I was actually really confused considering I've never been early in all the years I've had to take this medicine. It was a little embarrassing for me and she certainly didn't try to make me feel any better she said nothing and I walked out. I left called my doctor and asked him to just please change the pharmacy to the one that I've always gone to. When I went there to pick it up the pharmacist says you can pick it up tomorrow and that's what your insurance says. (he didn't understand why this place wouldn't give me the medicine at least tomorrow, since that's what the insurance says) why did this girl at the Chemist shop say I was way too early and couldn't get it till next week? This is a really pretty store and their medicine bottles are very attractive but their attitude is horrible and out of the 3 or 4 times I've been there it was bad customer service 2 or 3 of those times. I only had a good experience involving customer service and that was the first time I went in there back in May and I haven't seen her sense. No one should go into a pharmacy and be made to feel uncomfortable. It's bad enough they know all your personal business. read more

Every time I walked in the door or need a script filled they were and are always a step ahead of me. For over a Decade, I have turned to the Chemist Shop for my healthcare maintenance. Always Amazing. Where they really shine is when you need help. I recently tore the ligament in my left knee, between the Hospital & my PCP CONFUSION. They helped me sort through it. I love it when you call you talk to someone and they listen; even when I have needed lists of medication they have provided them (when my PCP changed practices or been taken over and information was lost). I see way too many doctors and specialist and they are always prescribing more medication or changing me to new medications. So finding a good pharmacy has been quite an exploration of Manhattan. In the past, Duane Reade was my place for filling my prescriptions. However, I got tired of long lines, long waits, and having to come back several times for my prescription because it wasn't ready. This is when the Chemist Shop came into place. It's right next to my job and I never have to wait more than 5 minutes to fill a prescription. if you become a regular, they will greet you by first name. There is a blond guy there, I don't know if he works there or is the owner, but he's aways super friendly and fast. Even though this drugstore is small, I ALWAYS find what I need. They usually carry the better quality products and don't overcharge. If you ask for help, you get assistance right away and they seem to actually enjoy helping customers. If you work in the Midtown area, just come on over and try this pharmacy. You won't regret it. P.S. This is a great compounding pharmacy in Midtown. I came here late on a Friday night to get a prescription filled and two business days later on Tuesday I was able to pick it up. The best thing about this pharmacy is that if you have a question about your medicine you can call the Long Island City location and are able to get an answer right away. I was having such a bad day. I just received some bad news and then I lost my wallet. I was walking by the chemist shop looking for my chapstick and could not find it. I was walking on 40th st and decided to pop in this small pharmacy to grab a chapstick. When I walked in I was greeted by the front person with a warm smile which already brightened my hectic day. I told her I lost my chapstick and needed to keep my lips moisturized. She recommended burts bees and it was amazing!!! Kept my lip moistured and smooth. She wore glasses and had a bubbly spirit. I think that my glowing review of The Chemist Shop is long overdue now as I seem to use them in situations where I need a pharmacy to come through for me and save my butt. The reason for this is that I do NOT live in the borough of Manhattan and typically rely on the local pharmacy. This would probably work better if I did not have health problems and require much more complicated prescriptions than the average bear. However, as it turns out my local pharmacy has left me up you know who's creek without a paddle on more than one occasion after having my prescription for more than a week and assuring me they could get it. Then comes the follow up phone call letting me know "it is out of stock" even though I know for a fact it is available. That is when I find myself turning to The Chemist Shop who without fail has gotten the the necessary prescription in 24 hours or less. That is the way it should be but is not in too many other places, especially the large chain pharmacies. But more importantly, not only does The Chemist Shop deliver (in more than one way) but they also have the nicest staff I have ever dealt with. This covers everyone I have interacted with there from the cashier to the pharmacist. They are simply excellent. read more
