It might take a minute to get it because I believe they make everything from a scratch and it was well worth the wait. My arugula, beet salad with goat cheese and dates was so fresh and crisp. Nice look with white tablecloths but faux flowers took the classy aspect away. Plus the cavernous dining area doesn't allow for ambiance. The service was sloow and it was explained that was because everything is made to order but some in our party waited 20 minutes after others were served. The eggplant caviar (see pic) was just okay and very chunky. The salad had a good mix of greens but didn't have much else to offer. My salmon and pesto was very tasty. This place has been a highlight of my Sedona/Lake Montezuma adventure. All I can say is: WOW! Some highlights: Food: really delicious and flavorful, in addition to well-cooked. There's free bread and pesto and I could just eat this alone as a standalone meal: bread is made in house and fresh, soft and pillowy. Pesto is bright, fresh, and savory. When you order a dinner entree, it comes with salad too! Service: they were a little busy but very kind and friendly - almost like eating at someone's house. The food, the service, and ambiance was spectacular. When we entered it was calm and inviting. We felt welcomed and relaxed. Once our food arrived, I could not stop happy dancing from the first bite! Every plate was pure joy, happiness and warmth. We had house salad, bruschetta (Eggplant Caviar, Ricotta/Dates/Pistachio, Fresh Mozzarella/Tomatoes/Basil/balsamic reduction, and Smoked Salmon/Pesto/Capers/Red Onion), Lamb Shank, the Daily Special, and Chocolate Mousse. The food was extremely comforting, made with pure love and care. Comforting as in a tender hug and embrace with a loved one or a dear friend you have not seen in a long while. We will be back! What a great restaurant! We stopped by chance on our way from Sedona to Phoenix airport. Now I'd go out of my way to go back! We were warmly greeted and it kept getting better. The salad was so fresh and the dressing light and delicious. I'm vegan and eat a lot of hummus, and the hummus plate here was perfect. Falafel wrap, falafel gyro, and Italian beef on ciabatta roll rounded out our orders. All were beautiful to look at and even better to eat! Fries came with the sandwiches and wrap and were great. My wife, Mom, younger brother and I made plans to have lunch at Moscato's, the family-owned and very popular Italian restaurant in Camp Verde, AZ on Dec. 28, 2023. However, our plans were dashed to the rocks when my Mom and brother were stuck in holiday traffic coming from the Phoenix area. To save at least some time, they decided to take a detour by driving through the mountains from Wickenburg through Prescott, and from there to Camp Verde. By the time we all arrived at Moscato's at close to dinnertime, there wasn't an available table for us there. Neither was there available seating at Cucina Rustica, the elegant Italian restaurant in the Village of Oak Creek, Sedona, where we lived. We were fortunate to find Astoria International Bistro, a restaurant situated no more than a block away from Moscato's on the same side of the street. My brother found it online on his smartphone and recommended we dine there. None of us had heard of this restaurant before. It specializes in Eastern European cuisine. The menu selections partially included Hungarian goulash, Cabbage roll, Polish Perogies, Borscht and a traditionally Jewish delicacy, Blintzes, referred to on the menu as "Blintzes d'O Joir". The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived there at nearly 5:30 pm. I don't remember seeing anyone sitting at the other tables. The waiter, named Tommy, was attentive and took our order right away. The owner of the restaurant, whose name I don't remember, greeted us and assured us that the meals served there were made and served fresh on the premises. I couldn't decide what to order at first because I wasn't used to having East European cuisine. I finally settled on the Filet of Sole served with Linguini with white wine. It was delicious. It satisfied my craving for fish and pasta in one meal. I only had difficulty twirling the linguini on my fork because it was thick, and I wasn't used to eating thick spaghetti. My wife had to coach me on how to twirl it properly. For dessert I had some of my wife's Tarte Tatin with Vanilla Ice Cream that my wife ordered, and some of my brother's slice of chocolate layer cake. The Tarte Tatin was good. The chocolate layer cake was so delicious I had two helpings of it. My brother couldn't finish it, so he gave my wife and me the okay to take it home. My wife got to it first and ate what was left the next day or two, which was only fair since she didn't have any of it at the restaurant. My Mom didn't like the Blintzes d'O Joir she ordered. I can well understand why. The blintzes consisted of chicken served in a triangular-shaped pastry combined with dill. They weren't like the cheese or fruit-filled blintzes of the Jewish dessert variety we used to have when my Mom or Grandma made them for us. Very simply, my Mom wasn't used to the entire cuisine served at the restaurant, so she didn't feel at home eating what she had for dinner. She told me later: "there was no one sitting at the other tables when we arrived there for dinner. That tells you something". My brother liked the blintzes d'O Joir he ordered, as well as the cabbage dish and mashed potatoes. He didn't like his Chicken Kiev, which was chicken wrapped in a cooked pastry, and he found the Lentil soup served to him as being just so-so as an entrée. He had no trouble liking the chocolate layer cake he ordered for dessert, although he couldn't eat it all himself. I asked my wife what she thought of her Astoria International Bistro experience, and she replied: "It's not my favorite restaurant". One reason for that declaration is that there was only a limited number of menu selections available to her, since she's a vegetarian. Most of the restaurant's dishes feature meat. In my opinion, this restaurant would do better in cities like Flagstaff and San Francisco than in Camp Verde. Its specialized cuisine would find a more receptive clientele in those places since they thrive on a variety of cuisine. Should Astoria International Bisto offer live music as well, it is likely to do better yet in those places. It wouldn't hurt the restaurant, though, to offer some American entrées to appeal more to the local clientele or start with a popular American dish like hot dogs, or a Polish dish like Kielbasa or Polish sausage. To that Astoria can offer a tasty sauce to go with it. That would give local customers something to order they'd be more comfortable with should they be unfamiliar with Eastern European cuisine, like my Mom was when we dined there. There's more to this review, but I'm saving it for another installment. There's still the matter of the credit card charge my wife and I had to pay, which was more than a few dollars since we agreed to lay out the entire bill total of $185. Coming soon. read more

If you are visiting Camp verde this is a must! Very unique, family owned and operated restaurant! Patio has a nice view of the mountains. Very cozy sitting inside and outside. The food is delicious and fresh. They also will accommodate your request for food allergies ( as much as possible) . The service is very nice and fast. The menu has a lots of different types of dishes from around the world. Home made bread and pesto offered for you while you're waiting for your food to be ready. We ordered short ribs, schnitzel and salmon. Portions are very generous. My husband wanted to try blinces but he was too full. Needless to say we came again in the morning for our breakfast. We will definitely come back every time when we are in the area. And definitely will include this place in our plans every time we are going up north from phoenix. We were on I-17 on our way to Flagstaff, and wanted to have a late lunch. We remembered the cute town of Camp Verde, AZ and went the few miles into the town. How wonderful to see people on the outdoor patio of the Astoria International Bistro on Main Street. We opted to eat indoors and were greeted into the lovely restaurant as if we were regulars. We opted to have the lunch specials. Unexpected was a lovely salad to start the meal. The meals were excellent -- my husband loved the Falafel Wrap. The prices for lunch were very reasonable. Astoria International is a hidden Gem. It offers dishes from several European countries. My husband chose the lamb shank, which was tender and delicious. I had the chicken Presidente, named after President Bush, as our server/owner Svetlana explained to us. It was delicious. Then we shared the chocolate cherry cake. Svetlana told us all the food was prepared in the house and answered our question. She is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is clean, with a relaxing atmosphere. This place was the most wonderful and unexpected surprise! A quick stop for lunch turned out to be a fantastic culinary experience. First of all the setting. Nice, crisp tablecloths, beautiful tableware. Right off this makes you slow down and relax. We had a party of 4, kids and adults so we got to try quite a few things in the menu. For appetizer I highly recommend the cheese coquettes. These are slightly sweet fried farmers cheese "pancakes". Farmers cheese is similar to ricotta. Unique, light and delicious. We also had cheese blintzes, also great and beautifully presented. The borsch was delicious and very flavorful. We had it both with and without sour cream and both ways were great. Pierogi. I have only worked here for barely a month, but Svetlana is not a fair employer, I wasn't informed till after I worked a 44 hour "trial week" that I wasn't going to be paid for all of it, only some. I have had to ask repeatedly day after day for my payments or some clarification on how the payroll works because the money I would receive was never the full amount of the hours I had worked. I have been in the restaurant industry for 9 years, anyone who actually knows me knows I am an amazing cook, and have even had my own recipes put on menus, where my name was known. I am too hard a worker to be mistreated or screwed over financially, especially being 5 months pregnant. Svetlana was rude to me when I went in to tell her I needed my last paycheck and went as far as to say "they gave me a chance to be nice, but I have no cooking experience, I've probably only defrosted food and put it in the microwave" She can say whatever negative and untrue statements she would like to, but I know my worth, abilities, experience and knowledge have far outweighed anything she could say, or believe, not communicating or being fair with payments will never get your business far. If I still do not receive my last payments I will be taking legal action, I am NOT the only person they have screwed over. Don't work here. read more

It's just too bad that the area's economy most likely can not support this restaurant from really being a five star review. There were some visuals inside that made me wonder how clean the kitchen was. They weren't horrible, but they were so obvious which makes me wonder if this is what they let the customer see, (how things look on the way to the rest room) how clean are things in the areas where customers are not normally at,, such as the kitchen. You could tell that the owner was really trying hard to make things really nice yet, somehow a pealing, painted concrete floor in the main dining area does not exactly say upper end dining.
