Man, not what I was expecting. Soup and cabbage rolls tasted good. Portions on cabbage rolls were tiny for the price. We got these fried dumpling things that were good but desperately needed a dipping sauce. The dessert was their like specialty cake. It was frozen and the food dye icing ruined it badly. Staff seemed irritated we asked for a food to be cooked in olive oil or butter. So we just said cook it how you normally do. 2 people, soup, mains, dessert $55. Wasn't close to enough food. To start off, I e been eating here for at least 7 years. Last night I ordered my normal order, chicken schnitzel and an extra side of sauerkraut. My wife ordered her usual, the pork cabbage rolls, an order of three and order of steamed vegetables. There you have it. Hers the rub, it was $57....absolutely not worth that price. It was worth $25 to $27. The steamed vegetables and the side of sauerkraut were $8.96 a piece!!!!! Enough is enough! Additionally, without saying too much, not good on the tummy. Absolutely, not worth the price. I will say, in fact or of the restaurant, the cabbage rolls are great, but they aren't worth what they are charging. My two cents. My partner ordered the chicken kiev and enjoyed it quite a bit. They came with these very dill-heavy potatoes, which were also fun! I have Romanian roots, so I was excited to hear that there are several Eastern European restaurants in Phoenix. Soup & Sausage Bistro is one of them. They have two locations, with this being the original. I stopped by on a Friday evening for dinner at 6 p.m. I easily parked in the surface lot they share with several other businesses. Ambiance (3/5): Soup & Sausage Bistro is a no frills restaurant. And a pretty small one at that. Is does have a homey feel to it, and I was there for the food, so the ambiance wasn't a big selling point for me. Service (N/A): You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. They didn't check on us after that, so service isn't a big part of the experience here. Drinks (4/5): Beer and wine only, but they do have Ukrainian beer. I had never had Ukrainian beer before so I had to try it. They had three or four different ons. I picked a lager. It was just what I expected. Food (4/5): If you've never had Ukrainian or Polish food before, you're in for a treat. The menu is mostly made up of soups, sausage, classic Ukrainian and Polish hearty dishes, and dessert. They have several combos where you can try a nice variety of items, which is what I rolled with. A got a sarma (cabbage roll in a tomato sauce, potato pancake with apple sauce, a bun (with tomatoes and mozzarella) and five pierogies (two potato and cheddar, two chicken, and two sour cherry). This was quite the feast! The cabbage roll was delicious, and reminded me of the Romanian variety (a lot of Eastern European countries have their own version). The flaky bun was also scrumptious (you really can't go wrong with mozzarella and tomato). The pierogies reminded me of my time in Michigan where there's a large Polish population. The chicken ones were meh, but the potato and cheddar and the dessert pierogies were on point. And last but not least, the potato pancake was crispy and fried just right. There's a lot to like at Soup & Sausage Bistro. Just make sure you come before they close, as they close quite early (8 p.m. on Friday). Next time around, I'm eyeing one of their soups. Or perhaps sausage. Or chicken Kiev. Lots of attractive options that I have still yet to try! read more

If you know what to expect (starch and meat based), it's good! My caveat is the price. As a retired couple, we eat out at noon almost every day, and don't mind paying more for specialty food...however, we shared a plate and got 1 soup (water to drink, no dessert) and the tab was $45! I love the straightforward name of this place: it's a quiescent spot that specializes in soup and sausage. I do find it odd that their website tells you can order pierogi by itself but their onsite physical menu doesn't even have that. I decided to try their namesake: a soup and two different sausages. I really loved their calming background piano music. The soup was quite nice and tasty. I only really liked the Polish sausage and wasn't a fan of the linguisa. Another foodie adventure. Highly unlikely I'll ever travel to the country of Ukraine, but fortunately, this restaurant specializes in this cuisine! Small but busy restaurant with delicious food! So many options too! Easy to just order at the counter and then find a table. Staff was amazing and shout out to Nastasia who served us. Decided on Hunter's stew, cabbage rolls and sweet crepes. My crew ordered a variety of other choices: pierogies, smoked sausage, honey cake, sauerkraut, caramel nuts. Happy reviews all around. The food came out after a short wait and it was all so good! I love this place! When I'm town again for a conference I dragged my family here and they did not retreat it! (I already knew I would love it again.) The food is stellar and they have so many choices which are all amazing. And fresh and tasty! My favorite Amos borscht and pierogies, but I could easily eat one of everything from the menu if give enough time. We weren't staying close but I managed to finagle two trips (an hour away from us) and loved every bite. This spot is amazing and if you haven't tried it yet you are missing out. Very small hole in the wall it's a Ukrainian restraunt, I got the #3 Sausage plate with smoked sausage, which has a salad with Itlain dressing it was very fresh and a good size the sausage was very moist and tasty, I also got the red Borscht soup which was very yummy. Currently having a staycation at a hotel nearby and we saw this place was close by. The interior is modest and nicely decorated for Christmas. Service was chill but prompt. The food was good but not sure if I could say great? I had the sausage plate and one potato cake was burnt. I did really enjoy the tomato salad. The hot sandwich was more of roll with sauce and sausage on top. Flavors were good but overall food was a little dry. The honey cake though was absolutely delicious and our favorite part! I thought it would also be good to get some carb in my life so I got the potato pancakes with both the applesauce and sour cream and it was very good. I also got the honey cake and it was the most moist and fluffy, layered cake that I've had in quite some time. I love the fact that it had a not super sweet cream, which really helped balance the flavor of the cake out. Phoenix has a Ukrainian restaurant! Who knew? Well, not me... until recently. Now, I'm glad to be in the know! Soup and sausage Bistro has a casual, quick serve model. It seems to be a pretty authentic Eastern European place. I could even hear customers speaking Ukrainian (or, maybe Polish). They even have small Ukrainian flags atop many of the tables. They're even available for purchase for five dollars. The service was attentive. It wasn't long after placing an order that deliciousness arrived. There's no printed menu so customers have to rely on the menu board with small print or scan a QR code on their mobile device. I ordered the Soup and Sausage Plate. It included a sausage link, half order of french fries, soup and fountain drink. (Sour cream is available on request.) Everything was very good. The sausage (I chose fresh, non-spicy) was good, so not as flavorful as expected. The french fries were surprisingly good. They seemed fresh cut, not frozen. The highlight of the meal was definitively the Solyanka soup. It had small bits of light, hearty veggies, sausage, and a light broth. The half slice of lemon provided an extra layer of the flavor. This was homemade goodness! The only drawback was the way too loud instrumental music. I like a bit of ambience, but it was just too much. A small price to pay for a good meal, I suppose. read more
