Nothing has changed in this store- still beyond AWFUL customer service! Spoke with an AT&T customer service representative over the phone about exchanging my iPhone 11 to a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. WAS TOLD I HAD 30 days to return/exchange without paying any fee's. The customer service rep said that I actually HAD to go into the store because to do it online would be complicated and take TOO long. Was immediately told I wasn't an authorized user on the account and they refused to help me until I was added to the account. Even though we had previously spoke to customer service on the phone and they said to come in for 1:30pm with your daughters drivers license and that it wouldn't be an issue, but OF COURSE it was an issue!!! First of all my mother is wheel chair bound and immunocompromised so she can't physically come in the store. So I received a brand new iPhone 11 in the mail yesterday and it's still in the package & they were told we had to pay a $55 restocking fee. AT&T Customer service literally sent us here- told us NOT to order online as it would be a LONG WAIT & difficult to transfer the number over & NEVER mentioned a $55 restocking fee. Secondly a $55 restocking fee Does not apply when ITS STILL IN THE BOX/UNOPENED?!? Literally- WHAT ARE THEY RESTOCKING???????!!!! They continue to argue with us over the $55 fee so they obviously didn't want our business after spending $3000.00 with them yesterday!?! Get it together AT&T- you need to REMAIN ON THE SAME page. THEY TELL YOU ONE THING on the phone & then you go to the store and they can't do what THEY sent you THERE for?!?! Idk if it's this store only or BEYOND HORRIBLE management here but a $55 restocking fee for an unopened box is A MONEY MAKING SCAM!!!! That policy is outdated and desperately needs to change!?!? Service at this store is not good at all when it comes to customer service were told if we switch over to At&T my husband balance on is phone would be paid of to Verizon well that was back on March 5th we are in May and the phone is still not paid off due to At&T and the people who run this store - now Verizon wants there money if not they are going to send the amount over to credit in the amount of $547.00 or they will go into our Visa account and take out the money due on the cell of . We never got the gift card as promised this store should be shut down and the people who run it should know how to handle a gift card transaction!!! lies on top of lies we are done with AT&T will try to go back to Verizon . My husband and I recently upgraded our phones at the Smithfield Crossing location. Usually a complicated ordeal but the Manager Danny was excellent, made the experience easy and as quick as possible. Another employee Jay was also very helpful. On a follow up quick visit Precious was helpful too. Obviously good management is why the store has greatly improved. Danny was pleasant, accommodating and friendly, we spoke to him about his photography talent. The prices on screen protectors, covers and chargers were overpriced. read more

Terrible! Twice in 4 months we have been lied to by the staff and management at this store. After questioning some of the practices at this store by calling AT&T customer service, we are convinced that the employees are just lazy and just do not want to do their job. When we stopped in most recently to have an issue fixed, the store reeked of marijuana and the associate could barely open his eyes. Go to the Johnston store on Atwood Avenue instead. Our problem (that we were told could not be dealt with at a retail store) was solved almost instantly and was done so by approachable employees. read more

Went into the Smithfield store to upgrade my iPhone 6 Plus which is over 4 years old. I saw a price online for the iphone 11. I wanted to order online but there is a discount on my account so I either have to go into a store or call. I called AT&T on Friday to upgrade and was told a higher price than online. Now when I called I was specific that I was upgrading my phone. The price online was online only I was told. The representative told me I can also go Into a store. I asked if that online price is instore too. She called the Smithfield store to confirm they are open and if that online price is valid in store. I was told yes. I go into the Smithfield store, I was greeted and asked what I needed help with. The gentleman didn't give me his name. I told him what phone I wanted and he grabbed it from the back. When he returned I asked if the price online to upgrade us the same as in store. He then asks what price, I told him. There was a girl helping a customer that said yes and I have to order it and pickup instore and it goes through immediately. The associate helping me didn't seem like he knew what the online price was so he went and looked it up and then tells me that that price is only for adding a new line. The girl helping the other customer looks at me and says that's just for new lines not for upgrades and I explained that's not what I was told on the phone the other day. They both in a rude way told me that I need to read the fine print. I was very taken back by this and thanked the gentleman for his time and left. I would have bought the phone if it wasn't being told you need to read the fine print. I would've overlooked my own misunderstanding with the pricing. At the same token what is advertised online is very confusing for the consumer because it seems like you need to jump through hoops just to find where the fine print is. In general the customer service in the store needs a massive improvement starting with an employee exchanging their name so I know who they are. Second of all not be condescending and say you need to read the fine print because that is just a very rude way to tell a customer to get lost and that you're wasting their time because that's what it seemed like I was doing to him. I still am going to buy the iPhone 11 which I wanted but I will not be returning to the Smithfield store. I am a retail store manager myself and I would never have my employees tell a customer to read fine print and I will always make sure my employees knew what the online pricing were and what the exclusions were so upon a customer asking they know the correct response is to give. By doing this it keeps the customer in the store and build a long-term relationship which I clearly see AT&T is not interested in doing especially at this location read more

If I could give no stars, I would. I was in on Saturday, it was super busy with a waiting list. Because of the long wait, the manager suggested that I make a store appointment. GREAT IDEA! So, per the suggestion, I made an appointment for 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Got time off work to keep the appointment. When I arrived, I was told by the same manager that there were other people ahead of me. But, I said ... I have an appointment. Whoa ... wait ... doesn't matter!!! You still wait your turn. OK - so (a) why did you tell me to make an appointment if you do not honor these and (b) why do you offer appointments if you do not keep them? In other words, why the appointment if you take people in order anyway? You wasted my valuable time, caused me to lose two hours of vacation time, wasted my gas. Very disappointed with the poor customer service at this store. My dad wanted to upgrade our iPhones to the new 11 because he was told of a deal where he could essentially get them for free with trade in and we made an appointment for a Monday afternoon. As we walk into the store the sales rep texted my dad saying she totally forgot to tell us she was given the day off after she scheduled with us. My dad my two brothers and I all drove there and took time out of work. We rescheduled for Wednesday and she presented us with 2 different options for upgrade none of which included free phones and she had said the promotion that my dad was promised expired on Sunday- literally the day before our first appointment. The sales rep had Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning to tell us that she could not offer us that promotion. Instead we all took time out of work and drove to this location AGAIN only to have been lied to because she wanted to make more money off of us. My dad called another AT&T and asked if the free phone promotion was still going on and they said yes. When he asked about the other promotion she offered us they had no idea what she was talking about. I'm not sure if this lady was trying to scam us or just had no idea what she was doing at this job but I'm glad to say that she made no money off of us and we will not be going back to this location. read more

My bad experience was with the AT&T store on Putnam Pike, in Smithfield, RI. I have frequented that store for many years to purchase phones and accessories and had previously been happy there. My issue was being told at the store after returning an unopened iPad within 12 hours of purchase that I could be credited a restocking fee by calling 611. Natasha at 611 told me that I could be credited at the store itself and that she was emailing the store manager Jason to let him know I was coming back to be credited. Upon my return to the store I was treated rudely and told that manager was on break and that he refuses to credit me and that if I wanted to wait in the store for an hour for him to return he intended to tell me the same to my face! I then called 611 again and Danielle listened to everything I said and very politely credited my bill. I have been a very long time customer through every name change and at one point had 4 phone lines with AT&T. If I had been told up front that I was being charged the fee I would've accepted that but after being told by 2 people that I would be credited I accepted it as a fact.
