Steve Knght was pleasant to work with at first, but then became very rude, unhelpful, and not honest about costs as time went on. I lived out of town and when his quote for counters came at a significantly larger cost then he originally quoted, would not help me find a suitable replacement for a rental and only guided me to places with no pictures to use. He then CHOSE the counters without my approval and was dishonest about the cost to put them in, asking me for an additional $6k months later that somehow "wasn't on the invoice". From speaking with others in Santa Barbara this is a typical experience. If you choose him, account for 150% or so of the price he quoted you initially. My tenant is also a handyman and was inspecting his crews work. He said he had to be on top of them to mount the cabinets correctly, and somehow storage space and cabinets just disappeared. If he hadn't been onsite I think it would have been very poorly constructed.

KwikResponse was quick to respond and quick to demo my kitchen after I had a water leak inside my…read morewall. But then things weren't so quick. They tore out my entire kitchen, sent their plumber out to do a temporary fix on the leaking pipe, and set up fans & a dehumidifier. After a week, the fans (extremely loud) were still there until I called to find out why they hadn't been removed. No one had come to check the moisture levels until I made a phone call. They were running for almost 2 weeks total (ugh!). After a month with no kitchen, I made another phone call to find out why nothing had been done. I was told that they were waiting for the insurance to authorize payment. (From day 1, I told them that cost didn't matter...I needed my kitchen repaired) At that time, I was emailed a contract stating that I would cover costs if the insurance denied anything. Why that wasn't offered on day 1, I have no idea. Anyway...with the contract signed, they started working the following week. Things started rolling, which was great, but then we never really knew when the different contractors (drywall, plumber, paint, cabinet, granite) were going to show up. Jose, the project manager, was very responsive to my phone calls or texts....and I'm sure he thought I was nagging him. He made necessary phone calls to try and get my kitchen finished. After a full 2 months, my kitchen was finally done. On a side note, I work out of town and wasn't there to inspect progress each step of the way. My husband was there intermittently due to his work schedule. I was finally able to get home and see the finished project. For the most part it looked fine , but as I started putting my kitchen back together, I started noticing things that were done half-heartedly. The dishwasher didn't work...only because the electrical plug they replaced pushed into the wall when they tried to plug in the dishwasher, so the plug didn't engage completely. (There were a couple of plugs that were that way) I'm not sure if they missed a screw when they installed it? But I didn't have the patience at that point, to pull the face plate off and see how the plug was installed. My ceiling still has a grime line from where they hung the plastic sheeting, the paint in the kitchen was a poor job (see attached photo), the granite counter looks like they were about 1/4" short where it met the wall and they made up the gap with a lot of whatever it was that they used to seal the seams. They even left it on my wall! So needless to say, the next time I'm home, I'll be grabbing a paintbrush and "fixing" the paint in the kitchen and grabbing a ladder and cleaning my ceiling. The people from KwikResponse that I spoke with were very nice and I have no complaints about them. But I would have thought that they would have done a walk through to make sure their sub-contractors did a good job, since it reflects negatively on them when the work is sloppy. This is the only time in all of my years of home ownership that I have ever had to hire a restoration company. I truly hope I never have to do it again...but if I do, I'll make sure to take a leave of absence from work to be there every step of the way to ensure this doesn't happen again.

There have been many times where my family and I were in a stressful situation and were in a better state when Guy arrived. He and his team took amazing care of our home. My biggest worry is mold and the safety of our young children. So when our home was flooded, he came by as soon as possible with every possible tool in his arsenal. He was honest about the moisture levels and kind enough to explain the situation. He and his team were professional and well educated when it came to this line or work. Everytime I have a moment to thank the universe for the special people it has put in our path, Guy and his team are on the list. By the third time, water came leaking out of the ceiling (plumbing issue), I knew what needed to be done just by all of the knowledge Guy had dropped on us. I immediately thought, "Call Guy right now." If you own a home, keep this business card on your fridge. You can thank me later. Salamat, kuya Guy!

He wouldn't answer and was strange about it. I asked if he was able to disclose his findings, and he said no. He could have just said that from the start. His demeanor the whole time was unpleasant, and he did not want to answer any of my questions. We then got into a conversation about air sampling and I said it can be great and it has it's place yes, but it's not the only tool. He did not like that and became so hostile with me. He said it's the only way to detect mold and that he was the best in the business. Several times when I tried to respond, he said Will you let me talk?! He never explained his process when he came in. I let him know this and he said he told my husband. Problem is, I was the one home and was not aware what he would be doing. He was ineffective and clearly knows nothing about mold. He refused to complete the job, called me the problem, and laughed on the way out. I am thankful he left as he did nothing to investigate, and his demeanor was narcissist and hostile. I had another company come out and wow! I didn't truly understand how terrible my experience was with Guy until I compared it to someone pleasant and competent in the mold world. DO NOT USE THIS PERSON.

4 months ago a water line to my washer broke and caused a flood to the downstairs of my house. This…read moreincluded 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, laundry area and hallway. I found David Ibarra after putting in a search for flood mitigations. Him and his wife arrived quickly but the entire time he was here, he was on the phone while his wife did all the work with the water suction machine. She was very careless with my belongings and broke two stained glass windows and left the wood frame on the wet rug to hide the damage, I guess she thought the frame would swell up and hide the damaged glass, she also left a $4,000 silk throw rug rolled up in the closet where it got wet & damaged. David's response was to say just charge your insurance company. He then proceeded to put as many fans in my house and garage as he could, of course these fans and dehumidifiers tripped my circuit breakers and he needed to return several times. When he found out that my insurance company did not pay for more than 5 days of fans he cornered me in my garage and said I would be paying the rest. He said "I'm not in the business of giving money away, I'm in business to make money." That's a quote! He threatened to put me in a collection agency or take me to court all the while pointing his finger at my face. I told him to go ahead and try! When workers started to show up to tear up walls, most did not speak English. They would leave after 3-4 hours of work without saying adios, with my garage door wide open and doors unlocked. After they tore out the plumbing in the bathroom I discovered they had cut the pipe to my water softener. If my water softener had been set to run that night, I would have had an even worse flood. This was incompetence at its finest. Luckily I bypassed the water softener. Then he said I had mold in my garage, he'd spoken to his mold expert. No mold expert ever showed up at my house and this mold issue was never addressed in the final estimate he gave, I did not have him do the repairs. He showed up at my house unannounced with workers assuming I would use him for the repair work. It hadn't even been approved by my insurance company. So basically what I'm saying is this man and his family may be hard workers but they're only working to make money from your insurance company, he damaged woodwork in my house, damaged objects that were precious to me, and was rude to a 70 year old woman on a fixed income. I'm so thankful I did not have him do my repairs. He wanted to charge extra for everything the insurance didn't cover. So if you have a flood, don't panic like I did and take the first mitigator, or the second, because he called twice. Second time was a different company name called San Luis Environmental. Turn the water off and call your insurance agent. When my insurance company investigated his work and took a month to pay him he sent almost daily letters demanding money with horrible misspelling. He never even sent his flood mitigation report for a month and that was the first thing my insurance demanded. Maybe this company is good at cleaning carpet but they know nothing about flood mitigation. My plumber said it's rare to have mold in this area unless water has been leaking a long time. My leak only lasted 30 minutes. But they kept coming in with moisture testers. I bought my own and it didn't show moisture as high as their's only slight dampness that would dry with the fans. He charged over $6,500 for fans and dehumidifiers. My house was dusty, dirty, and over heated the entire time the fans ran plus I had a $500 PG&E bill. One thing I'd like to add was even when the water removal was done, my carpets were still soaking wet and I got even more water out with my wet/dry shop vac. So long story short, do not use San Luis Carpet or San Luis Environmental unless you don't mind wasting your insurance companies money and have plenty of your own to waste.
