I chose this salon as my place to get my first perm done. My stylist was Min. He and another female worker were nice and answered all of my questions well. I was just really curious on what happens. It wound up taking ~4 hours where I got my hair washed, cut, primed, bathed in solvent, and then curled with the little rollers. I definitely felt cared for, but 4 hours is def a long time. I brought a book and phone charger in case I was bored. The salon inside, however, is extremely cold. I think it was like 62 degrees inside, and I got my perm done in the summer when it was hot (and I still felt that it was freezing). There's a bunch of stylists inside and people who help prepare the clients. For a digital perm, it was ~$200, and if you pay with cash, you can avoid the 3% credit card fee. They also do a traditional booking system where you call them and you get written down for an appointment on a paper book. Overall, I loved how my hair turned out. It was very luscious and soft, but I wish when I made the appointment, maybe there could have been guidelines of what not to do leading up to the appointment, same with post hair care especially for new timers. I wound up using a notes app of how to care for it. I wish I had more curls in my hair, but now I know for next time and how to ask for it to be styled. Great experience generally! This place is located inside of a busy plaza with lots to do, so if you're ever waiting on someone here, you can go to Teso or get boba/food/coffee -- any type of idle shopping! read more

WORST HAIRCUT EVER. Cindy cut my hair way too short. I asked for 2 inches, at most 2.5 inches off. I walked out with 4 inches off my length and I cried in my car after leaving. I wore my glasses today so I had to take them off during my haircut so I was unable to see but how did TWO INCHES turn to FOUR?!? My long hair that was close to my bottom is now up above mid back. I kept emphasizing I want to keep my hair LONG. Be firm on your boundaries and what you want. I usually get my haircut once a year and now this makes me never want to even cut my hair ever again. How hard is it to just listen to what the client want?! I haven't had hair this short since grade school. I've never felt so ugly and I hated that I had to pretend this was ok. I used to come to this salon pretty frequently and always had an overall good experiences, which is why my last visit was so disappointing. Unfortunately, the haircut itself missed the mark- it was uneven and didn't resemble the photos or the length, cut, and style I requested. Honestly, it was just a trim and unsure how it could go that wrong. I'm not sure what went wrong this time. That said, the shampoo and hair wash are still excellent by the lovely lady that's usually here- thorough and relaxing, just as I remember. I'm not sure if there's been a change in staffing, but I've noticed a different stylist(s) nearly every visit, which may be contributing to the inconsistency. I have been coming here for awhile, but recently got my hair cut by a male staff member I hadn't seen before, asked for long layers with 2 inches off. Whole experience was a bit bizarre (straightened my entire head of hair before cutting, seemed to be cutting randomly rather than clipping back layers) and haircut ended up looking okay from front but looked truly insane from the back (choppy layers, uneven, not blended well), which I didn't notice until I went home. Got the worst haircut ever here last week. I was going to be in the area so called the day before and scheduled with a stylist I never used before. I have always liked my cuts here. I asked for a trim with layers. He literally cut blunt layers in my hair, straight across layers that look insane. I could not tell when the cut was done. It wasnt until I got home and as the day went on the layers were obvious. When I put my hair into a ponytail, the top layer sits straight across the much longer under layer, like 2 completely separate lengths of hair! It is horrible. The barber even said he has not met people like me who asks so many questions. The owner of this place, Jeff, is also cringe and ignorant. He thinks I was being racist for telling them my honest thought that the girl who helped me wash my hairs did not really know how to switch between hot and cold water as I experienced discomfort. I only get my hair cut once every 1-2 years (I know it sounds crazy) so if I'm going to go get one I'm always doing a lot of research or asking for serious recommendations. Supposedly they can get really busy sometimes so I recommend making an appointment. when I arrived they got me a seat right away. The shampoo and conditioner smelled so good and I love the little head/scalp massage I got during my wash. The service is great, they take care to make sure you get what you want. I brought in pictures and every step of the way my hairdresser asked me about length and specifics on what I wanted. Overall, I got 12 inches chopped off and it came out beautifully. She even curled my hair at the end to match the picture I used as a reference for my cut! My cut was $35 which is crazy because I know some places charge more just because how long my hair is. The only services I find important enough for me to leave a review for are hair salons, and this one left me speechless in the worst way. I was visiting Atlanta and went to this salon on April 25th as per my friend's recommendation. She had RAVED about Jayna Kim and swore by her skill as a colorist. As my friend is highly selective about who she allows to treat her hair, and as Jayna Kim has had nothing but stellar reviews, I decided to take the leap of faith and entrust Jayna Kim with touching up my balayage. My friend and I had made appointments for the same day, and after detailing the work we both wanted done, Jayna had, much to our surprise, agreed to slot us both for the same time, assuring us it would not be a problem. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately. I showed Jayna a picture of what I had wanted (Photo 1) and explained that the picture was of my original balayage and that I wanted the same ash blonde this time around. She looked at the picture for about a minute and nodded, repeating "ash blonde" to me before instructing the assistants on what to do next. The bleach was left in my hair until my friend's bleach and color were completed (~3-4 hours), then i was brought to the wash station where they rinsed off the bleach, shampooed and conditioned my hair, then applied a treatment to my hair that was left in for 10 minutes. After drying my hair, Jayna asked if I wanted a trim, which I agreed to. Five minutes later, I looked in the mirror and noticed that parts of my hair looked a little brassy, but I had assumed it was due to the 6PM sunset coming through the front windows. I was not shown what the back of my head looked like. I was charged $270 and, since I had been there for 5 hours, I tipped $60 for a total of $330. Unfortunately for me, once I returned to my Airbnb, I quickly realized that the brassy color was not a trick of the light. The bleaching itself was extremely patchy and, to my horror, looked straight up orange. I waited a few days before using Fanola No Yellow and leaving it in for 5 minutes, which did nothing for the orange (Photo 2). As I was only visiting, I did not have time to go back to the salon, nor did I want to at that point. I highly DO NOT recommend this salon, as there was little to no communication aside from the initial showing of the color, and honestly, I don't understand how any stylist can agree to the color in the reference photo and let a client leave with the color in the after photos. I cannot believe that in addition to paying for THIS disaster, I now have to pay an additional couple of hundred dollars to FIX this. read more

After writing 2,600 Yelp reviews over the last 9 years, I haven't written a single hair salon review until now. My girlfriend was looking for a new place to get her hair cut. She's Asian so I asked some of my female Asian friends where they get their hair cut. The three salons most recommended to me were At Hair Salon (Duluth), Hair Capital (Doraville), and Pika Pika Hair Salon (Duluth). I'd heard of all three and settled on At Hair because it got the most votes and I liked what I heard about it the best. At Hair is located inside the GW Marketplace shopping plaza next to Sweet Hut Duluth. It opened around the 2015 new year. I've heard that several folks who used to work at Scissorhands down the street came to work here. I would consider this a Korean hair salon because most of the stylists and assistants appear to be Korean. When I called to book an appointment, I was greeted in Korean and when we walked through the doors, we were greeted in Korean. Several of the customers appeared to be Korean as well. If you don't speak Korean, I wouldn't worry about that because most of the staff speak decent English and some speak it very well. I felt quite inferior inside this place because I've been cutting my own hair, a simple buzz cut, for 17+ years with cheap clippers from places like Amazon and Target. Everyone who works here seems so stylish and trendy. Based on how the staff looked and the results of my friends' haircuts, I was confident my girlfriend was in good hands. Her haircut cost $35 (not including tip). Here was the pricing during our visit. These prices went into effect August 1, 2016. * Men's cut - $25 * Women's cut - $35 and up * Boy's cut - $20 * Girl's cut - $25 * Coloring - $85 and up * Highlights - $85 and up * Perm - $75 and up * Digital Perm - $150 and up * Straight Perm - $200 and up * Keratin - $150 and up Anyone know what the heck a digital perm is? We heard these guys can get booked up, especially on the weekends, so I booked their earliest Saturday appointment (10 AM). My girlfriend was seen immediately upon arrival. An assistant washed her hair and then her hair was cut by Jayna Kim, who also happens to be the stylist of choice of one of my good friends. Jayna was speedy and I thought she did a great job. I actually watched her work because I found it fascinating (I hadn't stepped foot inside a barbershop or hair salon in over 17 years). When it was time to blow dry, Jayna and another assistant worked to brush and dry my girlfriend's hair at the same time. We were in and out of the salon in about 45 minutes with no wait. Walk-ins are welcome, but I recommend making an appointment. One of my friends has waited over an hour even after booking an appointment. My girlfriend is very happy with her haircut. Initially, she did have some reservations about having her hair cut at what some may consider a "FOB" salon, but I wasn't worried. I like her cut too. It's bouncier and looks like it has more volume with nice flowy layers. It's got a nicer shape to it and sits better too. In the end, we are both satisfied with the result. My girlfriend plans to return and possibly get other stuff, like highlights, done too. The salon itself is clean, spacious, and modern looking. They play a mix of American and K-pop music in the background. Trivia: The front doors of At Hair Salon used to be the front doors of the DrewLewis clothing boutique where Sweet Hut's Midtown Atlanta location stands today. At Hair Salon is now my go-to hair salon in the Atlanta area. It's conveniently located in the same plaza as Sweet Hut which makes for a nice excuse to get a drink after a cut. At Hair Salon started with a couple former stylists from the Scissor Hands hair salon a few years ago. My former stylist at Scissor Hands (Jayna) left to work at At Hair Salon but I started going to Pika Pika around then. Eventually I decided to check At Hair out after a recommendation from a friend and haven't looked back since. If you're familiar with Scissor Hands, At Hair Salon feels pretty similar. The interior decor feels industrial with concrete walls and floors, exposed ducts and wiring overhead. It's a pretty large space too with around 20 booths and 4 hair washing stations. My first visit was a walk-in haircut but I eventually started getting my cuts with Jay after my friend suggested him. He's been great: very attentive, approachable, and skilled with men's haircuts. Nowadays I just tell him I want a trim and shorter sides and he just does the rest. He also let's me know the changes he's making so I feel very at ease around him. Once in a while Jay would suggest something differently which have always been good calls. Their men's perms are $75 which is a great deal for hair salons in the area. They come with a haircut included and Jay did a great job too. Mine lasted roughly 3-4 months before my hair became straight again. It's very easy to make appointments with them and their schedules are very flexible. I believe you can make appointments pretty far in advance or even the day of if your stylist is free. At Hair Salon is my favorite salon at the moment and I will continue to do business with them. read more

I scheduled an appointment for a women's haircut. The haircut was $40, $50 with tip. I was a bit disappointed because the hair stylist seemed like they rushed my haircut. I came in at 5:30pm. They close at 7:30pm. I don't understand the rush if I came in 2 hours before closing with a scheduled appointment. The haircut and wash was about 20-30mins total. The hair stylist wasn't very helpful because they opposed to what I had requested (bangs and face framing layers) and recommended me to get curtain bangs instead. At the end of the day, my hair looked almost the same way it did before I walked in. I'm very disappointed with the quality and service I received. For the amount I paid, $50 felt like I was being scammed for curtain bangs and an almost invisible trim. read more

I have a lot to say about this place. Long story short, I had a regular man's haircut from Charlie and I can say his professionalism is 0, customer service is 0, and sanitary is also 0. In full detail I've been getting haircuts from Min the past few years but unfortunately he wasn't available today and I made an appointment with whoever was available at 2pm. I arrived 30 minutes earlier because I was coming from out of town and just happened to arrive sooner than expected. So I waited until it turns 2pm but no one came to ask me who I made an appointment with until 2:05pm. Charlie (older man with mustache) finally sat me at 2:15pm and asked how I wanted to cut my hair. Okay but first big red flag here: he DID NOT CLEAN HIS TOOLS, THE SEAT NOR THE FLOOR after his previous customer left. The surroundings were covered with the previous customer's hair and the scissors and clippers were NOT SANITIZED. Are you joking? Even if there wasn't a Coronavirus out there, that should be done after you serve one customer. Back to the story - I told him that I just wanted my sides cut short and overall cleaned up length. I'm not picky and didn't request with a specific celeb hair picture. So he just went "mmm" and nodded then started to cut my hair. Second red flag: while he was cutting my hair, he went back and forth 3 times to a customer who sat next to me and constantly was looking at her rather than focusing on cutting my hair properly. His attitude is ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL, rude, and gross. He also brushed my hair really roughly as if he was relieving his stress on me. After cutting my hair for about 10 minutes or so, he shampooed my hair without covering a towel on my face, splashes water on me and drying my hair carelessly poking my eyes with the towel. I paid and went back to my car to look closely on my hair then found a few long hairs that weren't cut near my ears. I had enough and went back to tell him that it was uncut and he didn't even apologize and literally shaved that part off with the clippers he was using on another customer while I was still standing. So he said, "I'll cut it again for you" but I refused because I don't mind too much on the hairstyle. But his attitude was so terrible that I'm writing such a long post. Then I respectfully ask, what is your name? And he just said, "I'll give you my business card" and that was it. How rude is that? I paid $25 + $5 tip but the service I received was less than $0. I don't care if a hairstylist is less skilled, but at least treat your customer with respect and care, especially in professional service industry.
