We were able to get in the room early and put some fresh flowers down for our guest. We were able to arrive late as well without issue. The room we saw is huge with an en suite bathroom. Windows open easily. Nice heavy curtains allowing for a dark room for sleeping off jet lag. Breakfast was at 8:30 and very nice. Fresh breads and fruit, quiche, coffee or tea. You get the idea. This place seems to get return guests and sells out in advance so plan early if possible. Parking is street.

Lots of amenities: snacks, water bottles, and more. 10/10 experience. Walking distance to the bus depot to Toronto, etc. A longer walk to the Falls but it's safe and the view is gorgeous. From the moment I saw this adorable house, and met him, I felt comforted. Mr. Wei is such a genuinely kind person. He gave me a lovely tour and I was instantly charmed by the place. I stayed in the Victorian room. It's on the ground floor. In the room, there's also a door that leads onto the porch, and the back yard...complete with a lovely little waterfall that leads into the koi pond. I slept so well that night, (and the next 2) as the bed was comfy memory foam. Transportation is easy, as there's a terrific bus that takes tourists to specific stops with the sights, and it's called WeGo bus. The stop (called the B&B Stop/and it's the green line) is steps away and around the corner from Blue Gables, and you can buy the bus tickets or adventure passes 2 doors down at the Always Inn B&B from John or Chris, the owners. Breakfast at Blue Gables is from 9:00-10:00am, and it's delicious...with every day being different. If you'd care for coffee or tea before that, you can go to the upstairs little lounge bar with 2 bar stools, a fridge, coffee maker, cups, silverware...and make coffee at any time, or store your own food. Breakfast my first morning, was coffee, orange juice, yogurt, with fresh fruit prettily presented on top, and fresh fruit on the bottom, and after that was cleared away...a fresh fruit plate with strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, raspberries, banana, with a delicious ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich perfectly grilled. My second day breakfast was yogurt with fruit, and fresh fruit plate with a type of sausage, fried egg, french toast, and of course OJ and coffee, and the third morning was blueberry pancakes, sausage links, a fried egg, fresh fruit etc.. Mr. Wei had asked me the night before when I needed to catch my train in the morning. I told him 10:15a and he said I'd need to be there at 9:50a. Then he said "I will drive you" to which I replied "But how can you drive me if you're by yourself, in the middle of breakfast? It's okay, I can take a taxi." He said "Don't worry, I've asked my sister to help me tomorrow, and I can take you." So fast forward to the morning, and lo and behold, I met Sara...Wei's sister. She's just as lovely as he is. She also speaks French, and is a retired French teacher. After seeing he had help, I accepted his offer, and he also took me to the store to buy food for my 10 hour train ride back to NYC. As he was dropping me off I realized I'd forgotten to get a photo of the front of Blue Gables. I asked Mr Wei if he would please have someone take his photo in front of the house and text it to me so I can post it. He obliged. I'll always look back fondly, on this first solo trip in 11 years, and the beginning of the next chapter of my life. It was the perfect start for my grand adventure... Only complaint was breakfast was dictated to us. There was just us and one other couple in the house but we like to take our time in the mornings. It worked out great and breakfast was amazing and super filling. We did appreciate having until 11 to check out and we sat on the covered porch after breakfast and just relaxed a bit after breakfast before we headed out for the day.

After searching the area for a possible hotel to stay at (and being disappointed with the results), I chanced upon The Butler House and decided to book the Regatta room for a short stay on their website. Before I arrived, the hosts Jaime and Dan reached out to verify any dietary restrictions and anything they could do to make the stay more comfortable. On the day of my first night, they also checked in on my ETA and gave me instructions for late check in which was very helpful. It's located in a very peaceful and quiet neighborhood. This place was made to feel like a home away from home. It felt like I was visiting a friend's house. The decor was super cozy and well maintained. Everything on the first floor was so pretty to look at, from the foyer, front porch, first floor bathroom, dining room, and front porch. In the foyer, there were snacks, fruits, coffee pods and tea bags. There was also a piano to test your musical skills if you knowhow to play. I enjoyed my time swinging on the front porch's giant swing and feeling the evening breeze as I took in how peaceful the neighborhood was. The rooms were all located on the 2nd floor of the house and come with pin pad locks which was convenient. The Regatta room was huge and also came with a sun room that had two plush couches and white curtains. It felt like the perfect place to curl up with a nice book while sipping on some hot tea. There was also a heating lamp in case it gets cold. The sun room was also the only place with USB chargers which I wish the other outlets inside the bedroom had too. Everything about the room was super clean and well kept! The bathroom was neatly decorated and there was plenty of space inside to layout my skincare bottles. There were also small hand towels, hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. I really appreciated that they used regular brands like Olay and Pantene (I could tell by the smell because I use them at home too!). In the bathroom there were 4 switches (2 for lights, 1 for bathroom exhaust and the last one turned out to be for hot water which I had to figure out as I'm not used to turning on the heater like that or at all). The pressure of the water was fantastic though it was a bit small inside the shower space. They also had a lovely large bath towel and the bath robe was the cherry on top (I might get one myself). The bed was big enough for me and it was such a nice feeling to sink into a plush and soft bed after a nice hot shower. The TV had access to Disney+ shows which was nice. There was also an AC unit on the wall. I liked that all the room's light switches were right by the bed so that I could make the room as cozy as I wanted it to be. Breakfast was served at 8:30am sharp in the dining room. Tea, apple cider, orange juice and coffee were offered. The first course was Taiwanese scallion pancakes with egg and sausage on the side. It felt like a taste of home for me and an unexpected surprise in Niagara Falls. I would've liked ketchup but there was only sriracha and soy sauce. It was such a large portion I barely had space for the second course. The second course was a giant plate of blueberry crumble with whipped cream. It was quite sweet and most of the table was too full to clear their plates too. They really meant it when they mentioned that guests often don't need to eat lunch after having breakfast here! It definitely fueled me up while I was wandering Goat Island! Butler House has set the bar high in terms of any future bed and breakfast locations I might stay at!

The house on the inside was very well kept, but the outside and the neighborhood was very, very sketchy!!! She had us park in a dark alley that I was terrified to walk to and from the car at night.

Breakfast was warm and inviting and the homemade cranberry bread was heavenly! The rooms were cozy and very clean. Nice thick sheets and very thick soft towels. Tom was great about giving us information on all the local attractions and where to eat to avoid the crowds and get the best prices. Just an FYI: They did ask all the guests to remove their shoes at the door, which I was ok with, but definitely good to know ahead of time! :) Great visit! Felt like we were staying with friends. The hosts, Carolyn and Gary were great. Gary showed us around when we first arrived and constantly asked us if there was anything we needed. They were both extremely friendly and welcoming. The breakfast in the morning was huge and delicious, and was served on beautiful china right in our room. I had the stuffed french toast and my boyfriend had the quiche - highly recommend both.
