I've been to @ the Corner probably 6-7 times in years past and never have really had a bad experience but I went again the other night for the first time in about 8 months and was so disappointed. The food was good, nothing spectacular. But the service was awful. It started out find after we first sat, two waitresses who were apparently "working" as a team to serve us, got our drink orders quickly. After chatting with my father for probably 10 one of them checked on us to see if we're were also getting food and I said absolutely...and asked her to please come back soon so we can look at the menu. No one came back to us for 35 minutes......I saw one of the girls pass by 4 or 5 times and even made eye contact with her and said "excuse me" each time and she ignored us. After the other woman finally came and took our order, the food came out, the Christmas tree spinach bread, very good but very salty. And then around 15 minutes later our entrees did. My father got a burger and it didn't come with fries ...which is ridiculous for the price. So I ordered him truffle fries. They never came out until after my father was about done with his burger ....30 minutes to bring out fries??! I even went up to the bar to tell the girl they never came out and got an attitude from her. I got a Cobb salad that's supposed to come with chicken and it didn't. So that was another time I got out of my seat to go up to the bar and ask her for my chicken. She was going through her book with her back turned to me and I said excuse me 4 times and she never turned around, and then another man sitting at the bar loudly said "EXCUSE ME" to help me heels her attention because he was noticing what was going on! I also asked for black pepper for my salad and didn't see that for 10 minutes so I asked a third girl who passed by for it. The service was beyond slow, unfriendly, and inattentive. One of the girls never smiled at us and made us feel unwelcome. I won't be going back to the corner, which is a shame because I've always loved the ambiance and drinks. read more

Never been so wife and I gave it a try. Can't beat the ambience with decorative ceiling, brick and century old wood throughout the dining space. Friendly staff added to the coziness on a frigid winter evening. Wine and beer selections were ample and served in a timely fashion. Food was a major disappointment in that both meals were made with a heavy hand in serving size and richness. Wife had the meatloaf which was too rich with too many layers of flavor. I had the short rib which was tasty enough but the accompanying risotto was a coagulated mess with lumps much like poorly made oatmeal. In retrospect we agree that should have gone with the small plate selections, salad, etc. with drinks rather than full dinner menu. Plan to return in the spring/summer and do just that! read more

This is a wonderful little place, my definition of a "high end" gastropub. The menu is a bit fancy, it includes duck, and a few menu items not commonly seen. The wings are great, so is the charcuterie plate (there is a surprise treat of honey on it!), and the pierogi were excellent. The unanimous lunch item in the group was the burger! The CT beef is excellent and they it is offered as a custom made to your liking sandwich or as a few chef devised burgers. The fries are great too. I had the opportunity to visit the area and enjoy its homes, scenery and now enjoy its food. With no real search of local places, we found this local restaurant and wondered in. Plenty of seating for a Saturday afternoon. Menu had plenty of interesting choices so it appeared to be the right choice. The waitress was pleasant and helpful but not as attentive as I had hoped for. Ordering the food took some time and delivery of the food took a very long time. While my wife's meal was satisfactory, my meal (pic included) was not. I was so hungry by the time I got it that I ate it but the dish was tepid to luke warm. I should have sent it back but I did not. Disappointed. Maybe they are understaffed or had a bad day... so maybe you'll have better luck. The French fries were excellent! read more

Hands down - beyond well deserved five stars in every department. We were beyond floored. Our meals were insane. Everything from presentation, service, and flavors. On entry we were greeted by the hostess who directed & gave us seating options. We decided to dine on the high tops in the bar area. Sara was our bartender & server. She was all smiles, friendly, and great in conversation & following up with the kitchen when I had a menu question. Plus she made Tory's Special better than the bartender who normally makes it. We ordered from the Lunch Specials - Lobster BLT which consisted of spiny lobster tail, roasted garlic aioli, smoked cheddar, guacamole, on country white toast, served with old bay fries. Let's just say it's smack yo mama good - knock the door down - mmm mmm mmm deliciousness. The Cod Crab Cake was another hit out of the park. It was a pan seared cod fish, crab cake, butternut squash purée, grilled asparagus, balsamic drizzle. All I can say is I did not leave a single bite behind. Had such a wonderful dining experience here last night. The service was welcoming and wonderful and the dishes were all fantastic. Serving portions are quite big and flavorful! We had the steak, ahi tuna over a bed of Caesar salad, and the organic chicken... all were equally amazing. We were a bit tired from the day's events, so did not get a chance to enjoy any of the cocktails, but we look forward to returning and trying many more delicious items off of the menu. A lunchtime burger was OK but undistinguished. For $16+, a burger should include fries or some other side, but this was just a lonely guy on a plate. At least they toasted the bun. Kids' menu had some reasonable looking options, but the tacos consisted of mercilessly overcooked chicken and yellow cheese broiled until greasy. The chicken tenders looked better but also overcooked. Both kids' entrees included perhaps 8 french fries and three thin apple slices (perhaps 1/15th of an apple). The kitchen was clearly stretched to capacity at the time of our visit, as it took nearly an hour for two burgers and the aforementioned kids' entrees. Overall, a pretty grave disappointment for a nearly $100 lunch. In a town that caters to moneyed weekenders, a place like this should hold itself to a higher standard. read more

For $11 the sandwich was mainly two thick slices of multi-grain bread, making it difficult to savor or even identify the other components. Will try one more time. My brother and I took to dine here on July 26, 2016, to celebrate our familial holiday of Spite Day. It was an excellent choice to celebrate the day, because we surely ate better than the rest of our family. (If you too want to celebrate Spite Day, left me know! I'm in the process of drafting carols) The food is delicious, the waitress was very nice and took an ill-tasting, half-finished beer off our tab. There was one moment of foolishness where we mistook our bread for the pretzel appetizer we ordered. The bread, by the way, delightfully cheesey. The pretzels, served warm and the saltiness compliments the cheese dipping sauce. The only downside is this place is freakin' expensive. Even two people put a big dent in my monthly budget. I had a craving for steak. real steak. so I ordered the only steak on their menu. 16 Oz ribeye with mushrooms and shoestring potatoes I wash salivating. I ordered a Manhattan and it came with a luscious Luxaro cherry or some such brand. however the steak came SLICED over the supposedly shoestring potatoes SMOTHERED in a terrible mushroom truffle sauce. literally the fries were swimming in the sauce. they did bring me more fries after I asked for non-smothered ones. NOTHING tasted what it was - the steak, the fries, the mushrooms because of the sauce. lesson learned: ask about presentation and be really specific about not adding extra things. ps - the help staff (I think she's the manager butt I'm not 100% sure) said it was the truffle butter - ask them to not add that to your order. unless your a truffle addict. read more

Even though the Corner was mobbed,as is all of Litchfield at this time of year,we were able to immediately get a table for two! We started with the Indian Summer Flatbread which was very good! However,when we were done,Ann asked me if I had gotten any shrimp on my share and I had to say no! An oversight??? Ann wanted to try the Berkshire Pork but they were already out at 3PM so we both had the Brick Chicken! It's really their version of a pot pie and it was pretty good! Comfort food!!! My husband and I stoped @ The Corner when we first looked at our house a couple of years ago and sat at the bar. I can't remember what we ordered, but know the beer selection was great. Now that we are residents of Litchfield I would say we come here at least once a week. The staff is always so great and accommodating to us. Some of our favorites: onion soup, beet salad, @ the corner burger, pork chops (when in the menu), and more... The menu changes seasonally which makes it so you don't get tired of the same menu and the specials are always fun. Some nights they will feature one brewery in tap and pair different meals with different beers which is really fun. We will continue coming here as long as the beer is good and the food menu keeps us entertained :). Also, current menu has pickled vegetables. Super fun! read more

This place is lively, but still ok for families. Prices were average for Litchfield County I'd say. Street parking out front. My girlfriend got the plain Mac and Cheese and it was loaded with thick rich gooey cheese, perfect for a Sunday afternoon comfort food...or really any day for that matter. I had the Pumpkin Ravioli. It was fantastic, they were large pieces loaded and had chopped pieces of sweet potato I believe, and pumpkin seeds on top. Everything was in a drizzle of a light cream sauce. Very tasty, good lunch-sized portion. Honestly, everything on the menu sounded great, burgers, sandwiches and all the taco type dishes. They had a separate brunch menu as well. They also offer an extensive beer and wine menu with a healthy offering of local craft brews. The only negative ding I'll give this place, really a pet peeve, is the wobbly high top bar area tables. Fast forward to 40 minutes after finishing our app and our waitress comes over to tell us the ticket got lost and our food will be out shortly. At this point we weren't offered refills or even given more water. She offered to get us a round of drinks, but we didn't want them. I wouldn't have ordered more drinks anyway. We usually only get one drink. Meanwhile 4 other tables that sat after us have their food already and are eating. There is nothing worse then good food and terrible service. On a cold, rainy day we took a drive to look at the leaves ended up in Litchfield. We went almost directly to At the corner. We'd done this drive last year. The weather had been better. The leaves were closer to peak. But we'd gone somewhere else for lunch. This year I was determined not to make the same mistake.
