We had two visits within 2 months and both were great. My husband is a big fan of prime rib and AJ's has a prime rib special on Thursday evenings. So this is the place to go if you enjoy prime rib! The waitstaff has been terrific each time we've had a meal here. There is seating outside on the porch as well as inside. They have a tradition of free peanuts in the shells and people dump the shells on the floor. I can't quite get used to doing that but others do. The chocolate chip skillet sundae is the best. I have been here a few times, but not in a long time! The food is always good. The outside and the inside are so beautiful. Lots of seating is available in both places. I went on a Saturday around 4:00 and the front part of the restaurant was pretty busy, so I sat in the back where there wasn't as many people. There's a fireplace that is so cozy. I love all the wood too. It did take some time to get waters and menus, but the staff was very nice about the wait. I got a cheese pizza and it was so good! I love a good bubble and there were a few on the crust of the pizza. So good! One of the coolest things was the to go pizza box comes inside out. I had never seen that before, so I asked the waitress if they put the box together wrong and she told me it was one of their signatures!! I love it. I had the Sirloin Tips, that was approximately 6-7 ounces of high quality sirloin, well trimmed, and served with fried onion and green pepper. The entree comes with two sides, and I had the Caesars Salad (very good), and the onion rings WHICH WERE THE BEST ONION RINGS I'VE EVER EATEN BY FAR!!! The wife had the Tuna Wrap with fries, and it was a large, well rolled wrap, and she stated that it was excellent. They have a fairly large,vwell chosen list of draught beers to choose from. We sat at the har where service was very good. It appears that this place is a hot spot on weekends, and they offer a Happy Hour on weekdays. The food was mediocre at best. The nachos were something a 16 year out would make for late night munchies. The fried mozzarella was like warm. The buns for the hamburgers were soggy. When you walk up to AJ'S the first thing you see is a sign out side that says " Please Wait Here To Be Seated". Now for People like me who never been here before I was out there waiting like a fool. Some Regulars who showed up just a minute or two while I was waiting laughed and smiled and told me that the sign is for people who are out on the patio when the place got full. When you walk in the place has a nice cozy warm feeling like you walked into a log cabin in a nice ski resort if anyone knows they know, wasn't dark and gloomy like I was expecting, The Hostess was very friendly and our waiter very soft spoken and nice. My Partner and I ended up getting the same thing which I was kind of hoping he opted for something else so I can also try and review, but great mind's think alike, We both decided on the NY Steak Strip, it was absolutely mouth watering and delicious now we both asked for Medium Rare, his came medium rare mine was medium well, no biggie I can find more things to be upset about then a steak being just a little over how I like it, rather little over than rare in my book. The Baked potato was okay 2 little tabs of butter on the side and a heap of sour cream, it would of been better in my opinion if they gave me one more butter and throw some chives on it that would have been an epic baked potato. Sweet Potato Fries were cooked perfectly, believe it or not some places over cook them or under cook them but they did a great job, but as a portion size they could of put a little bit more on the plate. Now this is the only part I don't like, there's no place you can see Visibly where you pay, what I mean is there is no register up front, the waiter took our card and for 3 minutes the card was not in our site. It is very scary because you just don't know, all we can do is trust the establishment and the waiter. Usually quite busy at Both lunch and dinner time. Well visited place by the touring motorcycle crowds during the summer. But this isn't a 'biker bar' and we always enjoy the food here (the steak sandwich is a favorite). Prices are very reasonable and the servers are always pleasant. They used to have a giant barrel of complementary peanuts always filled up to eat while waiting for the food (like Five Guys does). Lately it's been hit or miss whether they have any at all. Not sure why that is. My young son and I always look forward to having them. All in all this is a solid place at a very good price point. read more

I am a frequent patron of AJ's and the food is always good but my latest experience was very disappointing. I ordered the steak and added on the option for the 6 jumbo Shrimp skewer (menu description in photo). What I received was some tiny baby shrimp sitting on top of my steak. When I questioned my server she responded as if she had never heard of shrimp on a skewer before and stated, "we have never offered shrimp on a skewer" and then turned the the gentlemen sitting next me who was clearly a regular patron and asked him "have you ever seen shrimp on a skewer served here?" I proceeded to show her the menu with the clear description and she did not respond to me and then proceeded to give me the bill for the meal with the words SHRIMP SKEWER and yet still no apology and no confirmation of my concern. Another server looked at the menu and said, "let me see what I can do about this" and NEVER RETURNED. Now the tiny shrimp, the size of my thumbnail, were very tasty and I was good with the charge.....but my frustration was with the fact that I was made to feel like I didn't know what I was talking about. It is OK if AJ's doesn't have the jumbo shrimp but don't put it on your MENU or at least apologize for not providing what was clearly stated on the MENU. read more

The food as always was excellent. The waitress was seriously lacking. Featured special was the lobster roll. Asked the price before ordering it. She gave us a price of 18.00!!! The check comes and it turns out that the price of the lobster roll speicial is 31.00! Plus tax! When I pointed out the discrepancy she said that all she could was offer free dessert! Given that it was HER MISTAKE not mine she should have honored the price that she originally quoted. Apparently her manager did not approve that. I would not have order the lobster roll at 31.00! Not a lot of choices when in Goshen, so we gave this place a try. It wasn't so busy on a Friday at 3:30 pm, with a friendly bartender. Decent drinks with fair prices. Chicken wings were good, mango habanero was my favorite, then Carolina and the Cajun. I enjoyed the French onion soup. For dinner, my BF got the Philly cheese steak and he said it was good. I got the steak tips, medium rare- it was tasty but the mashed potato wasn't good. No taste, no seasoning, seemed frozen and was just reheated. When 2 other tables of 4 that were seated after us received their food before us, seemed bit odd. 10 minutes more and our food arrived. Bit of disarray between the servers. Been to Aj' several times and always for prime rib night. Last time we went we were greeted by a very rude hostess that obviously didn't know what she was doing. We ended up leaving and going elsewhere. We tried again tonight. Same rude hostess but seated us right away. Service was prompt and my martini was good. We both ordered the PR. I asked for the end cut which is usually med well. My husband order med. mine came and it was so over cooked and tough that I couldn't cut it. My husband's was med well. His was also too tough to cut. I ate 3 bites and he only ate 1/3 of his. The waitress asked if we wanted boxes. We said no thank and she cleared out table without so much as an acknowledgment. Went here yesterday w/ the wife. Wasn't sure what to expect based on the mixed reviews, but I had AJ's bookmarked for some time, wanted to finally try it. My wife started off with a Bloody Mary, like she usually does. It was "delicious & perfectly spicy". Good start. We had the Carolina Tangy wings for our app. Very good wings -- meaty with a nice crispy coating. Sauce was flavorful, but not over-powering. I ordered a small bacon & clam pizza, my wife went mahi mahi tacos w/ steak fries. We both enjoyed the pizza, clams tasted very fresh. Tacos were just OK, didn't knock our socks off. What a difference a few weeks , maybe a little longer since my last visit and review. There was some difficulties deciding on my meal but I went with the Admirals platter. The service was terrific and the food was amazing. I want to personally thank our waitress as she helped us settle down our not too happy 3 year old grandson. I wish I had her name , too young to probably be a parent herself , but she got right on getting his food made quickly and brought out to us. Only thing keeping this review from a five star was the decision to remove the Impossible burger from the menu. My wife is a vegan and while it's hard enough to find meals anywhere that help her navigate this lifestyle choice we were able to count on that there. I get it ; it didn't move well enough to keep and that unfortunately is not the restaurants fault. Ajs is an entertaining establishment and have always been back for their nachos. Usually stalked high with layers of toppings and delicious. This item has been consistent not like their sub par entrees. The nachos were thrown on a sheet pan barely covered by toppings. Was there early on a Friday they were not backed up or busy. Our lunch order, with one beer, ran $35.61 - here's the scoop - $7 for a Pink Dragon Wit draft from Broad Brook Brewing, $8.99 for an AJ's House Salad with the $6 Steak Add-on, and an $11.50 Turkey Club Wrap with fries. The salad was mine, and I kind of laughed when our server, Sarah, brought it to our table, because it was served in the biggest metal bowl I've ever had had plopped down at a restaurant table. We heard about this place from a friend. We took a nice hour bike ride here. It looks like a nice place but we did not have a good experience. The service was very poor. All the servers looked confused and un organized. Our server Shannon F. was very lost. The food was poor as well. Except the appetizer, we ordered cajun shrimp which came with garlic bread that was really good but our dinners were not good. We ordered mahi tacos and fish and chips, we did not enjoy these. I read the reviews before we got there and can't understand why an angry vegan was allowed to spout off some anti-meat propaganda stuff, and bring the rating down. I looked into her other reviews, and it was basically the same stuff...an extremist with an agenda. I guess don't go by the star ratings because of posts like hers.
