We've been struggling to find a great restaurant in Torrington. Somewhere where the service and the food are excellent and well worth the price- Sasso's exceeded our expectation. We live around the area kept saying to ourselves throughout the night "why haven't we been here before? We've been missing out on such good food" There seems to be a lot of seating both inside and outside so that's a plus since we were able to get seated right away without a reservation on a Friday night. (they were already pretty busy) Our waitress was so friendly and super attentive even with all the tables she had. Now on to the food! Everything was cooked to perfection and beautifully plated. You could tell that whoever is cooking genuinely cares about the food that is coming out of that kitchen. To start we ordered the Spinach Artichoke Dip w/ Garlic Parm Crostini and the Antipasto Salad. (Not pictured) Everything came out in great portions to share and even the crostinis were packed full of flavor which brought the dip up another notch. The salad was fresh, colorful and absolutely delicious. For our entree we both ordered the Steak Frites-cooked medium. Both of our steaks were cooked to perfection and the chimichurri was herby, savory and even had a little bite to it-it was phenomenal. To add to the mix the frites had parm & garlic to make them even tastier To finish, after a very long day- we knew that an affogato would just finish this meal off perfectly and we were right. It was delicious and the candied walnuts were such a nice touch to add for texture. (My husband now has a new favorite dessert) Needless to say we will absolutely be back, and more than likely bringing many others in tow to share an absolutely wonderful meal! read more

Sasso's has been on my Try List for a while, but I live close to an hour away. I became increasingly interested when they recently made the CT Pizza Trail. I was visiting some spots in Bantam and Litchfield, and I decided to drive to Sasso's to get a takeout Portobello Burrata Pizza. Sasso's is next to the Warner Theater in the heart of downtown Torrington. Cool outside area. Classic inside with lots of wood. My pizza was ready on time. My limited interactions with the staff were all good. I tried a couple slices before I drove the rest of the pizza home to share with my family. Loved the thin crust. Good crisp, but still good chewy too. Some char. The toppings were good. They smartly packed the arugula on the side without me even asking. The arugula definitely would have had a tendency to wilt on the drive home if it steamed inside the box with a hot pizza. I was impressed with Sasso's and I'll be back. 4.5 Stars read more

Idk what the deal is w takeout and this place. After our last takeout order we tried again and once again, they failed. We ordered two pizzas and two orders of meatball apps. The meatballs were LOADED w chucks of garlic that basically burned our mouths. Even my three year old grand daughter would not eat them- which is saying something. We threw out all the leftovers (which was basically the whole meal)- the pizzas were both charred and the cheese on them was so sharp eating them was unenjoyable. 10.9.25 I've been here a handful of times and I gave them a few tries. I mention this because my first visit was pretty much a flop. I have heard so many good things about this place and it unfortunately didn't translate into good visits for me. I have been hearing about this restaurant for a handful of years and I recently finally started coming here. I was dying to try mama cips 7 hour rigatoni bolognese, but it fell completely flat for me. It was very plain & bland. I was so surprised. The meatballs didn't do it for me either. They were unreasonable & also bland. They tasted like plain ground beef balls. The sauce tasted very good though. I soaked and sopped all of it up with bread. Yum yum yummers. Also the ricotta was to die for. It was so creamy, so light with an amazing texture. These two things were the highlights for me. It ended there for the good things. I see so many reviews for people loving their pizza but it didn't make the cut for me. In my opinion, I didn't care for their pizza. And in my opinion, the pizza was also bland. Sorry to say. For take out to go orders the service was lacking, as I stood at the register with the worker playing or texting on their cell as I waited for them to finish. When I was leaving on that visit, it was nice for someone who thanked me for coming. I believe this woman was a manner. She was nice acknowledged me. Great customer service. For dining in the service was good. The restaurant is usually very lively, even on a Sunday night. Good crowd with loads of happy people involved in their conversations. It's a very clean restaurant. Parking was also easy out front on the street. Pretty close to the highway exit on and off ramps. I go usually on Thursday nights to hear the live music from 6:30 to 9:30. Myron and the Trio were great, as usual! I must give compliments to Brooke, Luis, and the other server whose name I cannot recall (but who is beautiful like Brooke and who resembles Paige Desorbo of "Southern Charm" fame). Brooke is an amazing server and the other young lady is taking after her. They greeted me warmly and served me well. Luis is a very kind and considerate young man. And everyone else who worked there that evening seemed exemplary as well, from the servers to the food preparers to back of house where they are washing dishes and cleaning up... and the manager who enforced the rules. Seems like a great team. I will continue to patronize Sasso's as long as the customer service is as great it was that evening! read more

We went to Sasso's after going to Christmas village. We went right into this warm and cozy restaurant. We live in the New Haven area so we are spoiled with good pizza and we would put this pie among them. I had a beautiful char and great flavor combinations. My husband had the Truffalo and I have the sweet and spicy. They are both loaded but balanced. The crust had a good chew to it. It's right next to the warner theater so super convenient for anybody going for dinner before a show. We will definitely be back. read more

Yes. 4 orders from them at different times (and we're talking a $50 order for ONE pizza). 4 times in a row I asked for (and paid for) additional regular mozzarella in addition to the fresh mozzarella on a margarita pizza. Every time this request was ignored. Then my order gets delivered from a door-dash driver with his kid in the car and my pizza on the front passenger floor. I'm done with these jack-offs. Tall broad windows, wood walls, and open pizza oven create a cozy but open ambiance. For those of us who love that coal fired char and thinner pie, this is a very nice option. I am very very particular about how I like my pizza (see my 14+ years of reviews). The ingredients are fresh, the options are varied. The pizza dough has a nice chew and crunch to the edges. Sauce is tangy, although I feel the pizza could use a little bit more sauce. Cheese is buttery not very salty. I prefer the New Haven style with long hot peppers. Excellent service, friendly, accurate, accommodating every time. Other great menu options. The clams are always fresh and excellent. I don't typically write negative reviews. I understand people's livelihoods are on the line, and I don't take that lightly. But this experience genuinely missed the mark enough that I feel it needs to be said. A couple weeks ago, I drove by and thought the place looked good, so I decided to give it a try. I pulled up the menu on Google, which showed very reasonable pricing. Based on that, I figured a large cheese pizza with one topping would run somewhere around $23-$25. Fair enough. I called in my order -- a large cheese with meatball -- and went to pick it up. To their credit, the pizza was ready quickly, and the young man at the counter was polite and professional. Then came the surprise: $35. I questioned it, thinking maybe there was a mistake, but was told that's the correct price for a large with meatball. At that point, I'd already ordered, so I paid and left -- but the sticker shock was real. When I got home and opened the box, things didn't improve. The pizza was extremely thin and lacked structure -- picking up a slice, it folded over completely, almost like overcooked pasta. The sauce was watery, with an overpowering garlic taste that dominated everything else. It didn't feel balanced or intentional. Then the meatball topping -- or lack of it. One slice had a single small piece. Overall, there might have been the equivalent of half a meatball spread across the entire pie. It looked like it was thrown on without any real care or consistency. That's where the issue really is: not just the price, but the value and execution behind it. Charging $35 for a pizza sets a high expectation. That's a premium price point -- New York-level, or places like Pepe's in New Haven that are widely considered among the best. Whether someone agrees with those prices or not, the product at least reflects a certain standard. This did not. For context, I grew up in a pizza restaurant in Hartford's Little Italy. I worked the oven from the time I was 14. I was taught that nothing goes out the door unless it meets a standard -- period. My family would never have allowed a pizza like this to be served, especially at that price. This isn't about being cheap. I'm more than willing to pay for quality. But this felt like the opposite -- high price, low care. At the end of the day, it comes down to pride in the product. If you're going to charge top-tier prices, the food has to match. The only warning I give people is to understand how Sasso's operates.  This is not your typical was it for a table, order, and have your food delivered restaurant process.  You order first at the counter, then are seated and your food brought to you.  We were unfamiliar and were told it would be 30 minutes or so for seating on a busy Friday night.  We chose to wait and looked at the menu, but didn't know to order.  Once we were seated the menus near came.   It wasn't until we asked at the counter we understood their process.  Knowing that, subsequent visits have been great!   Delicious pizza for sure, as was everything else we tried.  Drinks are great as well.  Pick a nice day and you can enjoy outdoor seating. read more

We have been coming to Sasso's basically since they opened. It is absolutely amazing EVERY SINGLE TIME. The staff literally treats you like family. We love seeing all of our favorite faces the second we walk in! Even if the place is PACKED with reservations, everyone always does everything in their power to still accommodate us if there's any possibility to do so. The food is always next level delicious and their cocktails are truly works of art. We have an obsession with the smoked wings, ceaser salad and every single pizza on the menu. Our recent addiction is the hot sausage pie with pepperoni! Matt, the owner is always making the rounds, clearing tables, seating guests when needed, helping his staff and making sure everyone is taken care of. This is a gem. Amazing food. I adore their new menu. My spouse and I keep going back here even with the new restaurants cropping up. Sasso's is our #1 for so many reasons. Lovely diverse HAPPY people, cool vibes whether sitting at the bar or one of their two dining rooms. Outside on the patio during summer is a genuine treat. It's a very welcoming place with legendary espresso martinis, pizza that consistently wins awards, and some truly bespoke dinner items. It also boasts one of the most friendly staffs we've ever met. It's a bit like Cheers in that everyone is friendly and happy and the joy (especially before a Warner Theater show) is impossible not to get wrapped in! If you sit quietly and listen to the crowd, you hear laughter, shared happiness and a kind of magic of mutual joy. This is a delicious place. I love Sassos. I highly recommend any of the pizzas, especially the specials/seasonal pizzas. The buffalo chicken dip is very good, however extremely spicy, so if you're not a fan of spice, I might stay away or ask for the housemade dressing. The spinach artichoke dip is also very good. My friends, parents and I love coming for the drinks- especially the seasonal ones! They are always very festive and taste absolutely delicious. This is absolutely worth the trip- you will not be disappointed. Edited: Came again today for my 4th visit and I was disappointed. Just a quickie update, and since our opinions about Sasso's haven't changed much, there really aren't many changes to our comments about it. Their coal-fired pizza is delicious -- we're fans of the all-meat toppings -- with a crispy, thin crust and plenty of snap to it. Good beer list, friendly servers. Our one issue remains: when it's crowded, it is loud, and conversation can be difficult. That said, if you're heading to a night at the Warner Theater, there's no better place nearby to get ready than a beer and piazza from Sasso's. read more

We were across the street at Kids Play and decided to go for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised! Smelled great. Ordered 3 different pies, Mac and cheese, and spinach dip. Everything was excellent. Well known within the CT pizza circuit, Sasso's is a destination restaurant. Finally got to try this CT favorite and they did not disappoint. Started with the coal-fired, smoked wings for an appetizer. Very tender with nice smokey undertones. Had the garlic and herb wings and they were exceptional. Not overly seasoned, just really, really good. Main course was a sausage pizza and the summer seasonal peach, burrata, and prosciutto pizza. First, both pizzas were thin, crisp, and with the perfect amount of char. Sauce was outstanding as was the sausage. The surprise was how good the seasonal pie was. The combination of savory and sweet between the prosciutto, peach, burrata, and balsamic drizzle made for a unique flavor experience that I couldn't get enough of. Sasso's is easily one of the top 5 pizza restaurants I have eaten at. Checks all the boxes if you are a fan of thin crust, coal fired pizza. We were in Torrington and my husband said he wanted to try Sasso's. I am a huge pizza snob, but decided to indulge his wishes anyway. Well, I was glad I did! We walked in and it was nice and warm and smelled great. There were a lot of great choices on the menu, but we wanted pizza. We couldn't agree on one to share so we got two smalls. The smalls are not small!! I only ate 3 of 8 pieces and I probably could have stopped at two. He wanted the meathead, but I wasn't in the mood for that, I wanted something a little less greasy. He did love it especially the thicker cut pepperoni. There were many I wanted to try, but I settled on eggplant Parmesan. The eggplant was cooked perfectly, nice and crisp. Good sauce, thin crust, and just the right amount of cheese. The prices are a bit high, but the portions are worth it. Especially the apps and salads seemed quite pricey, but everything I saw come out was huge. I was happy with my pizza even for $19. I'll get at least 2 meals out of it. I certainly wouldn't say it beats New Haven pizza, which is just a "thing". But it was a close runner up. Really solid choice especially in an area not well known for pizza. And the Foxon Park soda helped - I love a good root beer with my pizza! Stop in if you're at the Warner, Christmas Village, or just in the area! My experiences there were not terrible although the dining area is claustrophobic, loud and energetic and mostly from the bar which potentially is not family friendly..all of what I previously wrote is depending on day/ time there. In occasions when have sat at the bar my friends and I have been completely ignored because the bartender/bartenders were involved with other patrons and not attentive to other thirsty and hungry people. Personally it is good for what it is but unfortunately with my experience in this neck of the woods, not the only place where if it is busy and you are not a regular or friend of the attendant you may as well not be there. After an awesome day spent in Litchfield, I made a pit stop at Sasso's that afternoon (after having the legendary Sally's Apizza the day before), and was thrilled by the find! First of all, both the bartender and the server who rang me up (had a quick drink while waiting) were not only sweet, attentive, and helpful, but they both complimented my BMW Credit Card, which as we all know, makes me an absolute big shot* They got it. We gave each other the secret nods, etc., etc. Anyway, besides impressing everyone immensely**, I was wearing a T-Shirt with a massive stain near the belly (realized too late) and much appreciated these wonderful ladies not pointing at me and guffawing like crazy. Once I settled up, I brought the pizza out to my BMW (you didn't think I just had the card, DID YOU??) and I ate two slices before I even drove away. Did I add yet another stain to my shirt? Why don't you go ahead and take a guess...regardless, I finished the pieces and was very impressed, truly. Sally's the day before was good, but it didn't blow me away (to be fair it was a little cold when I ate it and I'd just eaten 47 Altoids). Sasso's DID blow me away. Completely! Sassos was a happy coincidence.. as we continue to eat our way through CT we came to town to visit another establishment who no longer serves cocktails (!!??) and they recommend Sassos.. so off to Sasso's we went on a particularly quiet Saturday afternoon and I was mind blown. I love me an espresso martini but I am quite particular and I was hesitant to order from their many customized espresso martini options so I started with a pisco sour derivative and it was delightful. I then asked for a classic espresso martini and I was concerned when I saw chocolate being added to the mixture again. And in between the making of this cocktail, the bartender asked my name, and I thought she was being friendly but she had a different an alternative motive as she customized my drink with my initial -- all of this experiential entertainment is what elevates a small establishment into the five star realm. Thank you Lexy for your amazing craftsmanship. We decided to order the clam pie and it was good but a little onion heavy and soggy in the middle. We are classic New Jersey crispy crust aficionados and I understand with the coal fired pizza you're not gonna get a super crispy crust, but I would say pretty good not the best I've ever had but of course I also love pizza just as much so I would order again for sure.
