Came here to get my hair touched up by Van! He was very friendly and accommodating! I was able to make an appointment by texting him 2 weeks before my appointment. The pricing was very reasonable and whole experience was perfect. He took his time, was very gentle with my hair, and the color turned out amazing! The location of this salon is close to La Jolla shores but not quite in the main area. It's right next to Harry's coffee shop. My favorite brunch spot in SD! There is ample parking in the back and 2 entrances to the salon. My hair felt very healthy after my appointment and I love the haircut I received as well. I couldn't recommend him more! So I went to Van because my original hair girl couldn't get me until next year and it was over 8 months since I got my hair done. I also heard about van from a friends mom. I saw his Instagram and fell in love with his work, and that's when I decided to reach out and book an appointment. Van is so INCREDIBLY sweet and makes you feel taken care of! I drove an hour and half from Orange County to see Phuong in La Jolla and not one regret! Worth every penny!! She's very meticulous and completes the entire job from start to finish! Phuong was extremely detailed and took her time to do my balayage highlights. Unlike some high end hair salons where the "stylist" only touches your hair for 5-10 minutes, while the assistant does all the actual work, Phuong did everything herself with the help of her assistant in the hair wash and hair drying. I have stubborn asian hair which, can be pretty difficult to match the correct shade of colors, especially blonde, with my skin tone. It did not turn out brassy or orange whatsoever and the hair blended and transitioned so well from my crown to my ends. Definitely will be back for my next touch-up/hair style! read more

Horrible business and cancel on me the morning of for "car problems" and now is completely unresponsive and I'm guessing asleep. So I'd like all you to be ready to have your time waisted and your money forced out your hand. And it's not everyone. It's the dyer "steph" she just couldn't care less about her clients. I used to get my hair cut and colored by Sean Carrick. He is very talented and does a great job, and gets what you're asking for right away. He's not very talkative (which is a bonus if you ask me!). Why would I leave a talented hairstylist like this.... The salon is awful. It is VERY hard to get an appointment if you work 9-5, because they are only open one evening a week. And those appointments go FAST! I used to jam out of work early and fight traffic into the village of La Jolla, busting my arse to get there on time, only to be forced to wait over 1/2 hour each time because Sean was running behind. The receptionist(s) were unprofessional and always gossiping nastily. Whatever, but it's not a "fun" environment. They take credit cards, but you can't put your tip on it (!!) so be sure to remember to bring cash. I like a beer or glass of wine when I get my hair done, and this place doesn't do that. Bonus for some, detriment to others. Lastly, I asked about wedding hair and they charged exorbitant "extra" fees for going on-site, and couldn't even guarantee that I would get the stylist I wanted (Sean). With all the amazing competition in town, I think the salon owners need to work on their staff's customer service skills and maybe think of some more creative ways to keep their clientele coming back. I've been getting my hair done by the same stylist for years but she moved recently and I was in need of a cut badly and went off a referral from a friend to Atelier Aucoin Salon. Brian had done my friends hair and she loved it and so I trusted her advice and I am glad i did. Brian was quick and involved mein the cut process from everything from how I like my part to how long I wanted the front and layers. I was appreciative of him not just cutting away at will. My hair the past few days has been so soft and manageable, I barely blow dry it and it just sits so well and frames my face perfect. I would like to mention I received an e-mail from Jodi about a month ago. I appreciate her taking the time to contact me. She mentioned she would have comped the haircut and would have liked a chance to fix the mistake. While I no longer live in the area, I would still recommend Jodi solely because she knows what she is doing in both cut and color. In fact, after I moved out of the area I drove over an hour every 6 weeks for about a year to see her. The salon's prices are on the high-end, but I do believe Jodi is worth it. I've been here for cuts, color, and just for a shampoo and style and I've had an awesome experience everytime! The salon is cute and modern and the owners have always been friendly to me. I normally get my hair done by Haley and she always does a great job - even with my thin non-volume holding hair! I had her style my hair for my birthday and for new years and I got compliments all night long. The other stylists are fun and friendly as well and I really love the Davines products that they use. so you're asking, "why would you review a salon...WHY?" I would do it because i'm a new yelper, and I had a really good experience here. so "why the 3 stars?" went there twice and had a really good and a not so great experience So I needed to get a haircut while I was still at school. Normally I cut my hair at any random Korean run hair salon or barber because I believe they know the head shape I was born with, but I had some extra cash that weekend and an appointment with "Mia" (in quotes because i don't know her last name). This was my first time at a real hair salon, so I got into one of those gowns and Manny (?) took me in for a scalp massage and shampoo. At that point I knew exactly what my 1 friend who talks about hair with me is saying when she says that hair salons are relaxing. Then in my state of relaxation, I sit down in Mia's station where she asks me what I want. I wasn't sure what I wanted, so I just told her to do something new. She took her time, cut in a way that made my head not look too big, and styled it in a new way I haven't thought about. Prior to this, I would spike my hair, let it grow out, part it, then start the process again after the next haircut. I liked how she did my hair, and looked forward to my next expensive hair cut appointment. A few months later, I went back with another stylist (thinking it would be the same) and was not very happy with the cut, and NO scalp massage. I guess the place didn't have as much an impact on me as the two hair stylists that worked on me...so try this place out and see if they're there... read more

I had been going to a great extention salon in Encinitas when I happened into the salon to buy a pair of earrings. I should have NEVER EVER SWITCHED SALONS....ITS JUST THAT JODIE WAS SO CONVINCING! Jodi explained the breakthroughs she had made in hair color and extension application. She claimed to have found a product that when applied to hair NO MATTER HOW DAMAGED FROM OVER-BLEACHING AND BREAKAGE, there would be absolutly no damage to Jodi's client!'s hair! My hair broke off three inches from my root thanks to Jodi! Jodi also told me she had come across a true breakthrough regarding the placement of the extensions. With Jodi at the helm, she had found another extension miracle!! She told me when she takes out extensions she pins them exactly where they were originally placed on a maniquinn head, eliminating uneven placement resulting in cutting the extension's length to 'even' out the misplaced extensions! So...after meeting with Jodi, one of two owners of what seemed like a reputable salon, she convinced me she was a HAIR EXTENSION GURU AND A HAIR COLOR GENIUS! Jodie put me through EXTENSION & HAIR COLOR HELL! Prior to actually bleaching my hair or applying the ex- tensions, I met with Jodi to pick out the hair colors for the extensions and told her that my hair breaks around my crown and she should work in a darker 'no bleach' color (I know my own hair!) I also stressed that Jodi should put in an array of extension colors...some very light blonde, some a medium blonde and some slightly darker creating definition in the extensions. I told Jodie I'd experienced an extension nightmare where my hair extensions all blended into a dull 'wheat' color throughout my hair because the girl ordered ALL THE EXTENSIONS with a very slight color variance blending into a dull wheat color all over my head! Even though I spent a great deal of time selecting the various colors for EACH EXTENSION, Jodi took the easy alternative....she chose the slight color graduation resulting in a dull wheat color with no color definition. Unfor- tunately I didn't look at my new extensions waiting for me! I just 'ASSUMED' JODI honored my time consuming selection of DIFFERENT SHADES OF BLONDE. Excited, I couldn't wait for the day of my appoint- ment to have my hair colored and 'new' extensions I personally chose an array of blonde tones for hopeful of a more natural definitively highlighted appearance. Jodi's first attempt was a fiasco! I ended up with a 'plain Jane' wheat color throughout and an absolutely dfisdtasteful reddish strawberry blonde running through my own hair in bold segments!! I have a stronge dark auburn color in my own hair. But there's a huge difference between auburn brown hair and tacky strawberry blonde! To top all this, Jodi gave me a long (down my back) Farah Facet look...I'm a senior. So back I go and Jodi attempts to fix the style and cuts a great deal of the length off. Completely upset realizing I should have never left the great hairdresser I had before Jodie! But then my extension hair (much much shorter to my dismay) started tangling in bunches after only a few weeks after I paid Jodi $1000 plus the additional charge of almost $300 for a few strands to give me a 'fuller' look. The tangling became a nightmare and I lost some of my own hair because of it! Furious with Jodi, she asked me to come in so she could see what was happening. She had told me she only used the finest hair so I was com- pletely baffelled! The first time I went back Jodi told me that SOME PEO- PLE have the 'tangle and knotting experience (I couldn't brush through my hair all over the back of my head!) Jodie offered to put a different brand of extensions on my head. Once more I have the discussion with Jodie demanding much more contrast by using different colors in the extensions eliminateing the solid dead wheat color she gave me.I left her salon thinking I was understood by Jodi. Halfway home I had a strong feeling I wasn't understood and drove back to make sure Jodi knew exactly what I expected. I walked into the salon explaining to Jodi that I wasn't 100% sure we were on the same page regarding the variation of the extension color. I wasn't there more than 5 minutes when Jodie pulls out 'different hair' telling me she 'fought for me' and her manu- facturer is going to replace my knotted bland hair with this 2 tone sample mentioning that its much more expensive hair. Another appt. has Jodie struggling with all the tightly knotted extensions in my hair finally 'cutting' many out taking some of my hair with them. The new hair has some of that dreadful 'strawberry red pukey blonde' in it but Jodie assures me those pieces will be in the back of my head and once more, I believe what Jodie tells me..she has a quiet sweet nature and you'd never be- lieve she's capable of such lies!
