I went to see Albina after reading such great reviews on Yelp while vacationing in my hometown of San Diego. Needless to say when I return home from my temporary exile in DC, Albina will be my go-to person when my brows need work! First off, and most importantly IMO, she takes the time to determine the proper shape for your brows, then waxes, trims and plucks your brows to make sure they're clean, natural-looking and perfectly shaped. She explains what she's doing while she's doing it (which immediately put me at ease) so that you're not lying there wondering if you still have brows left. Secondly, her space is beautiful! It's located on the second floor of Christina Q Salon, and it's clean, spacious and just nicely done. Obviously, not as important as my first point, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Lastly, Albina is sooooo nice! I had the unfortunate experience of being rear-ended on my way to my appointment and was 20-some-odd minutes late. She was totally understanding, super-pleasant and didn't rush through my appointment. Brow shaping (first appointment) will run you $30 and maintenance appointments (follow-up) will cost $20. After all the 5 star reviews, I was super excited to get my eyebrows shaped by Albina. Unfortunately, I will never have that opportunity because I will never ever go back. I made an appointment for 5:15PM on a Friday and left work early and drove 30 mins out of my way to get there on time. I show up at 5:08PM and am told that Albina is with a client and she will be down shortly. I sat on their little bench and waited my turn. At 5:16 PM, another client shows up for an appointment with Albina. Her appointment was actually at 5 but she had originally scheduled it for 4:45PM but Albina had called to reschedule. Uh oh. A few minutes later Albina comes down and introduces herself to me. Even though I was on time for my appointment, I wasn't in any hurry so I was prepared to be nice and offer the other client to go first. But alas, instead she starts off by asking if I received their phone call. Apparently they called me earlier in the day to say that Albina was running late and could I reschedule for 5:35PM. They did call but I hadn't listed to my voicemail yet (as I was rushing there from work) so I had no idea what she was talking about. Now, its totally acceptable to call and request an appointment time change, but if you don't hear back from the client, you have to assume that the answer is NO and you should do your absolute best to keep up the appointment that YOU agreed to in the first place! So I tell her I didn't receive her message and she kept insisting that they had called and did leave a message. Then, she had the audacity to ask me to WAIT 20-30 minutes while she helps out the other client. I politely told her that I didn't have the time to wait and got up to leave. She insisted again that they did call so I told her that if I had gotten her voicemail I wouldn't have been ok with the reschedule anyway. The second and third star is because Albina called and left a voicemail to say she was sorry for the situation. She insisted again that they had called to leave a voicemail (I don't know why she thinks makes a difference) and hoped to see me again. She also offered to give me 2 free eyebrow waxes the next day and explained that she was late due to a family emergency. I empathize with her situation and appreciate the incentive, but if a client doesn't confirm the time change, you shouldn't just assume it's ok. Or at least try calling a second time? Maybe some of you will think I'm being unreasonable but when I have an appointment time, I expect to be seen at that time. Also, in case you get confused trying to find the place, Albina's is located inside the Christina Q salon. Street parking at 5PM on a Friday was fairly easy to find. read more

I don't know why I wait so long between appointments, I'm just a fly by the seat of my pants kind of gal I guess, but it's always a pleasure to see Albina and today I was seen in her new elegant & spa-like space on Torrey Pines. So much nicer than the hair salon style treatment areas of other brow specialists in the area - private and super comfortable. I have thin blonde eyebrows and sensitive skin but Albina never fails to shape them perfectly and add just the right amount of color. For some reason I can keep up the maintenance on them so much better than other places that use templates - it's like she follows the natural growth of my bone structure vs. trying to make them fit in a template! I had never had them dyed before seeing her and it makes all the difference, my eyes pop and I'm not digging through my make-up bag to get the right brow color pencil every morning. Let me just start by saying Albina has the most magical hands ever! Her facials are by far the best ever!!!! She also does my daughters eyebrows and eyebrow tinting and it always comes out perfect.
