So I waited over a year to write a review from my lipo surgery May of 2022. Most surgeons say to wait a year for full results. Yes, I'm happy the surgeon removed a good amount of fat. However, I am still extremely lumpy and not very impressed with my results. I've also spent hundreds in post lymphatic drainage massage. The doctor was running late for my surgery that day, making me wait over five hours for my turn. I was only gifted a handful of skin tightening treatments and saw no results from that. Rather disappointing since I spent close to $20k. I also added on under chin lipo and didn't see a single change from it. The location is great. The staff is overall pretty friendly. The office is clean and nicely decorated The doc/surgeon is helpful and friendly. So why 3 stars? They charge close to $12,000 for liposuction for the abdomen/love handle/lower back area, almost double the price of other places I've received quotes from, INCLUDING ONE IN THE SAME BUILDING. This includes a $3000+ anesthesiologist fee, which comes out to roughly $1000 an hour for a 3 hour operation. The median salary of an anesthesiologist in Irvine is $442,000 a year, or $212 an hour, not $1000 an hour. I get it, the anesthesiologist maybe doesn't keep all $1000, but that's not my problem. I feel like the people who set the prices here were thinking "Irvine is full of people with money, let's rip them off". Of course one could argue that the cost of doing business in Irvine is high, but again I received a quote for the same procedure, ....in the same building for almost half the price, or about $2000 less for just the procedure not including anesthesia. I had my eyes on Athenix for a few years now, and I finally decided to get my body contoured. I'm 5 foot 1 and I weighed 122lbs prior to the operation. I wasn't anywhere near being overweight, but I had really stubborn fat that I just wanted to get rid of. My problem is I love food and no matter how hard I would work out, all the fat I would lose would just come back again and I would have to try all over again. Dr. Fellows was my surgeon and he was very kind and caring. He made me feel very comfortable and he seemed very excited to work on my body because they said sculpting someone of my size would achieve more desirable results. I got my arms, back, and abdomen done. Service: The staff is incredibly kind and amazing. Jennifer is awesome and made me feel so welcome and comfortable. My nurse is Amber and she is so genuine and empathetic. She makes me feel so at ease and I truly can feel that she cares. Surgery day: I was the first patient of the day. Every person who was assigned to my care was amazing. Dr. Fellows made sure we started early because he said that he wanted enough time to achieve the results he had envisioned for me, and the fact that he plays deep house music during the operation is amazing. I was given general anesthesia because I was getting multiple areas done. Healing process: I was in a lot of pain for the first 1-2 weeks. I kept the compression garment on for about 2 months. Initially, if I took the garment off, I felt like I was missing a layer of skin lol. I felt like it was holding me together. The compression garment is supposed help reduce swelling as well as aid in the healing process. A couple other patients I spoke with said that their vaginas swelled like crazy after their procedures due to the pressure of the compression garments. However, mine didn't. My upper thighs did experience bruising and swelling, but no pain. Post op 1-6 months: The swelling went down slowly but surely. I felt like I had some irregularities due to the swelling, so I felt a bit self conscious about it. I could tell where the swelling was because certain areas would be painful to touch. I realized that my sodium intake was also affecting the swelling, so I decreased my intake. I also got massages to help decrease muscle congestion in certain areas that felt a bit hard and painful, which helped significantly. Post op 6-12 months: I had gained about 12 lbs since the surgery. I was really disappointed in myself because those irregularities had become more prominent. Dr. Fellows told me that before I decide I want a revision, to lose weight. ADVICE: keep eating healthy and stay active after lipo because the fat will come back and it will redirect as well as accumulate in areas that the Dr. may have missed. Post op 12-14 months: I have lost 6lbs since my last weigh in and I had a follow up with Dr. Go because Dr. Fellows is no longer at Athenix. I expressed my concerns to Dr. Go about certain irregularities despite working out and losing weight. Apparently, the irregularities are my abs? Lol I guess I've just never seen abs on myself before, so idk what they would look like. However, there are a few areas that have a little more fat than others, so Dawn, the manager was super kind and offered me 3 Venus treatments to help correct those problem areas. I'm very grateful. Thank you Dawn! Scarring: My puncture marks are still visible because I haven't been consistent with the scar treatment. They have faded significantly though. I would recommend early scar treatment and staying consistent with the application if you are worried about scarring. The puncture marks on my arms are gone. The only ones visible are the 2 in my pelvic area, 2 above my buttocks, and the 2 mid back. Price: The price will vary depending on how many areas and how much fat you have I believe. They do offer payment plans, which is what I did as well as a free consultation. My procedure came out to $13k. Overall, I've been working out 3 days a week, eating well, drinking lots of water, and my body is looking amazing! Biggest mistake paying 17k for a bbl here, I wish I could go back in time and had never chose this place. 1 for nearly killing me and not telling me it was their anesthesia machine that malfunctioned while I was under and causing me to go into hypothermia, 2 for having a revision and still not fixing the problem, 3 because now my body can't be fixed, 4 because they don't know how to follow up I've been calling myself because they're not capable of doing so or maybe just don't want to because they already got their money. My experience with Athenix Irvine has been exceptional. I went in for a free consultation in September of 2021 and scheduled my very first surgery for December 2021. The consultant specialist (Maribel) was very professional and understood what I wanted right away. She advised me of best surgery dates throughout the year for recovery purposes and really took her time to answer all of my questions. I never knew I had tuberous breasts until my consultation with Maribel, she was amazing. I had a mommy makeover with Dr. Motakef and could not be happier! Dr. Motakef made me feel 100% comfortable from the pre op appointment to my three month post op. He explained my surgery procedure in detail and made sure he answered all of my questions.
