My credit card company sent this.

Giving 2 stars because the food is okay. I called to order some food for pickup, came in and paid with a credit card. I handed the old man on the register my card and he charged 34% tip without my consent. Not cool! This is stealing. I will never return but if you decide to eat here , make sure to get a receipt if you order from this place.

Food is always delicious. Love the lamb kebob platter and the spinach pie. The baklava is the best.

The older guy working up front I presume is the owner, he was very nice and the gyro was really good! I would definitely recommend bringing a jacket as it was VERY COLD in there!

Still great! The quality and freshness is still here. Ordered Greek salad and hummus. The best hummus in the DMV! The salad was fantastic!

Thursday 2/22/2024 I ordered in person and the food took about 20-30 min to be ready. I got the chicken souvlai platter (with rice, salad, pita) $14.95, "fat free" gyro $13.95, and 1 peice of baklava $6.50. My total was $39.08 which is way more than I expected but they have a 4% credit card fee so maybe that's why but idk. The "fat free" gyro was an extremely messy and disappointing dish. The gyro wasn't wrapped properly so once I got it out the foil it got real messy. The meat in gyro (lamb or beef) was terrible and to make it worse the tzatziki sauce left a bad feeling in my stomach. The only gyro I had before was from Naz's halal and it was significantly better than what I got here (DO NOT get this dish). The chicken souvlaki platter was solid but slightly overpriced due to the chicken portion. It was a huge disappointment compared to what I expected (there was just 4-5 chicken pieces on the skewer). Finally, the baklava which I can easily say was the best item I had BUT $6.50 for a small piece is ridiculous and flat out overpriced. I'm newer to baklava (only tried this and another) but I can say this is the best I've had: sweet and delicious. Overall, I had a pretty disappointing experience due to food taste, pricing, and portions and that's why I would not come back.

The food was cooked fresh, the service was alright and the atmosphere was casual. We went there when it just opened. It was a one man operation. He was waiter, cashier and cook all in one. The portion was big and tasted okay. We wanted to try several different things but unavailable. So we ended up ordering the same lamb platter. I would've liked trying the desserts, but they looked like leftovers from the day before: stale and unappealing. So we skipped. Overall, it's better than fast food chains, but not something I would go out of my way for.

The layers were perfectly flaky, the filling rich and well-seasoned -- it genuinely transported me. High bar cleared. I also ordered the kotopoulo kebab, and while the chicken itself was solid and the rice unremarkable, the green beans that came alongside were a quiet revelation -- tender, deeply flavored, the kind of side dish that steals the show. Don't skip them. The menu has enough variety that I left already plotting my return visit to work through more of it. If the rest of the dishes hit anywhere near the spanakopita's level, Ela Mesa is going to become a regular stop.

The temperature might have been warm when they brought it out, but it took so long to get napkins and silverware we will never know. The seafood pasta had a disappointing amount of seafood, and the smallest scallops I've literally ever seen (see photo for reference). At least they were so small we knew they couldn't have been part of a castration. The pasta was so overcooked it turned to paste in my mouth. Not a big issue if you have a beverage to wash it down with. A very big issue if you and your partner both have a water cup and a cup for an alcoholic beverage, but they're empty and have been for over 20 minutes. The shrimp was also overcooked, but not quite as abominably as the paste-a. Aside from the food, they had a ton of fruit flies. There was even one in my wine glass when they brought it over. That was swell. Would I go back? No. Should you? Also no. Unless you're someone who has drastically wronged me. Then I hope you go here and waste your life savings on overpriced, overcooked food with fruit flies as your only company.

It's a small mart that specializes in middle eastern Mediterranean cuisine and ingredients. They place does not have seating inside, but plenty of seating outside. So plan on either take out or picnicking. They make the food right as you order so things are fresh. The part I really liked about this place was that the sauces were not overly salted - to increase shelf life - and the amount of oil/butter was not overly used to try to mask the ingredients. It's more on the "let the ingredients speak for itself" which I really dig. In the end, you don't feel heavy after the meal and you feel like you had a hearty and healthy meal. My favorite was the lamb shawarma. He toasts the outside pita and it gives it a nice crunch. The lamb is fresher than other places and he doesn't over season it to hide the lamb smell. Other places - if you notice - tends to use cumin a lot of mask the lamb smell. Not here though. The falafel sandwich was okay. It was colder than the lamb shawarma. But the falafels were made right there in front of you. I got the sujuk sandwich too (which is a type of sausage). It was a breakfast burrito basically. Our order took 20 mins to make and he makes it right when you order. So be prepared to stay there and peruse around. Some ingredients there were interesting. The one thing that caught my eye was a bottle of pomegranate molasses. He sells it close to 50% what Harris Teeter would charge and he has various brands of pomegranate molasses. I use pomegranate molasses to make grenadine for cocktails. Also has orange blossom and rose water (also both used for cocktails) I like this place and the guy is nice and sweet.
