Giving 2 stars because the food is okay. I called to order some food for pickup, came in and paid with a credit card. I handed the old man on the register my card and he charged 34% tip without my consent. Not cool! This is stealing. Thursday 2/22/2024 I ordered in person and the food took about 20-30 min to be ready. I got the chicken souvlai platter (with rice, salad, pita) $14.95, "fat free" gyro $13.95, and 1 peice of baklava $6.50. My total was $39.08 which is way more than I expected but they have a 4% credit card fee so maybe that's why but idk. The "fat free" gyro was an extremely messy and disappointing dish. The gyro wasn't wrapped properly so once I got it out the foil it got real messy. The meat in gyro (lamb or beef) was terrible and to make it worse the tzatziki sauce left a bad feeling in my stomach. The only gyro I had before was from Naz's halal and it was significantly better than what I got here (DO NOT get this dish). The chicken souvlaki platter was solid but slightly overpriced due to the chicken portion. It was a huge disappointment compared to what I expected (there was just 4-5 chicken pieces on the skewer). Finally, the baklava which I can easily say was the best item I had BUT $6.50 for a small piece is ridiculous and flat out overpriced. I'm newer to baklava (only tried this and another) but I can say this is the best I've had: sweet and delicious. Overall, I had a pretty disappointing experience due to food taste, pricing, and portions and that's why I would not come back. read more

I was craving Greek food and we decided to try this place out. We got the gyro platter & side of green beans and it was good. There was only one older gentleman working the kitchen so it took a little longer than expected (about 25 min wait). But it was worth it. You can taste the love they put into their food. I went to this place today after craving Greek cuisine. This place did NOT disappoint. The beef souvlaki was excellent... not the little hard beef chunks that u usually get at Greek spots. The salad was AMAZING, and the pita bread was soooo good. I ordered the platter in a bed of rice (I don't even really like rice) but THIS RICE WAS SOOOO FLAVORFUL.? I will definitely be back. The gyro salad here is so so good - they don't do uber eats or DoorDash but you can call to pick up and they are pretty quick. They make everything fresh and with love. The service is friendly and I love the Greek vibes in the ambiance. Definitely a hidden gem. read more

The food was cooked fresh, the service was alright and the atmosphere was casual. We went there when it just opened. It was a one man operation. He was waiter, cashier and cook all in one. The portion was big and tasted okay. We wanted to try several different things but unavailable. So we ended up ordering the same lamb platter. I would've liked trying the desserts, but they looked like leftovers from the day before: stale and unappealing. So we skipped. Stepping into this restaurant was like stepping back into Greece! Upon walking into the restaurant, I was greeted by a vibrant older woman at the register. She asked me what I would like to order, and I replied "Chicken Souvlaki". You can choose rice or french fries, and I chose rice. I also ordered a lemonade to drink. After ordering I decided to eat inside, FYI you choose your own table. Upon waiting, I took in all of the artwork inside the restaurant while also soaking up the aroma of the food cooking and listening to the staff speak in their Native Greek tongue. It was warming to know that my food was being freshly made. A few minutes later a raspy voice yelled out, "Sir, chicken souvlaki!!!!" I went up to the counter and was handed a tray that was flooded with deliciousness! Grilled chicken, rice, greek salad topped with feta, and four pieces of pita bread! I also asked for tzatziki sauce on the side which I had to pay extra for, but it is so worth it! I began eating and I was in absolute paradise!!! The flavors were so rich and authentic! I dipped the pita in the tzatziki and my taste buds were singing!!! This food was very flavorful and you could taste the love that was put into it! I took my time eating and savored every bite. As I finished up my meal, more and more people stopped into the restaurant to place an order. I am glad to see this establishment getting so much business, with the level of quality food they are putting out they deserve it. Check this place out, you are in for a treat! We get take out at least a couple times a month because it's near Airpark Soccerplex where my son spends a lot of time. Everything is so delicious. Great pita and hummus. I only gave it a 4 stars because I ordered a large order and it was so hard to distinguish whose plate was who's because there was no titles on the top of the boxes and the lamb looked like the beef platter. At the job it was a very difficult time trying to pair who ordered what. But overall food is great!! The amount of meat is not very much but just right!! The deserts are amazing!!! Will I come back? Of course!! The older gentlemen was too kind!! I never been at this restaurant before and I'm excited to try other menu options. This place is the real deal. I have had food here MANY times. My office is nearby plus I am Greek AND I grew up in my parent's and my sister's Greek restaurants. This place is the closest I have ever gotten to my family's homestyle cooking. The food is authentic, fresh and the serving portions are huge. The gyro platters and souvlaki are so flavorful - almost intense. And the traditional Greek dishes like pastitsiou are great. Again, their food is like you've stopped by your Yiayia's house for Sunday dinner. The Greek salad all by itself (with chicken) is too big to eat in one seating; LOVE THAT DRESSING!!! It's in an ordinary strip mall and the restaurant has the typical blue and white decorations, photos of Greece, etc. Service was a little slow, maybe because if couldn't make up my mind. The person who took my order steered me towards the beef souvlaki platter which is a beef kebab, Greek Salad and I requested fries (can also get rice or double salad), pita bread and I had a side of tzatziki. The beef was really good. I'm hesitant to get beef at times because it's so sad when it's yucky. It was tender and flavorful and freshly grilled. The tzatziki was delicious. Let me start by saying that the food is very very good here. It's hot and yummy, BUT (and yes it's a big bold capital but) we waited an hour and 25 mins for our food. The gentleman at the register is warm and warned us that it would be a wait, but nearly an hour and half. I had even mentally prepared myself for a wait, but everyone in my party of 3 was miserable by the time we were served. One major flaw is the fact that if you order take out, your order always takes priority. There were people that walked in an hour after us and still received their food before we did. Athens Grill has been a local gem in the Gaithersburg area. I placed carry out over the phone and came by the restaurant to pick up my food. I ordered (2) chicken breast platters which comes with salad, choice of rice or fries, chicken breast, feta cheese, greek dressing and pita bread. They grill the chicken fresh and season it with plenty of rosemary and other special seasonings giving it a burst of flavor. The pita bread is the most delicious and flavorful I've had versus anywhere else! The restaurant was packed on a Monday during lunch (says a lot about the food!) I came to the counter and the owner greeted me - he knew right away I was there for the carryout and make sure to bring cash to avoid the credit card fees. A lot of local shops have been implementing them to survive the COVID stress that's been placed on a lot of small businesses. Also, the food is enough for lunch AND dinner. It's THAT much food and you can opt out the fries and rice for extra salad which is what I did. read more
