I feel like I found a favorite near us. It's not one of those places where I would travel to, but if you're relatively close to Urbana, it's worth a stop. It's a small mart that specializes in middle eastern Mediterranean cuisine and ingredients. They place does not have seating inside, but plenty of seating outside. So plan on either take out or picnicking. They make the food right as you order so things are fresh. The part I really liked about this place was that the sauces were not overly salted - to increase shelf life - and the amount of oil/butter was not overly used to try to mask the ingredients. It's more on the "let the ingredients speak for itself" which I really dig. In the end, you don't feel heavy after the meal and you feel like you had a hearty and healthy meal. My favorite was the lamb shawarma. He toasts the outside pita and it gives it a nice crunch. The lamb is fresher than other places and he doesn't over season it to hide the lamb smell. Other places - if you notice - tends to use cumin a lot of mask the lamb smell. Not here though. The falafel sandwich was okay. It was colder than the lamb shawarma. But the falafels were made right there in front of you. I got the sujuk sandwich too (which is a type of sausage). It was a breakfast burrito basically. Our order took 20 mins to make and he makes it right when you order. So be prepared to stay there and peruse around. Some ingredients there were interesting. The one thing that caught my eye was a bottle of pomegranate molasses. He sells it close to 50% what Harris Teeter would charge and he has various brands of pomegranate molasses. I use pomegranate molasses to make grenadine for cocktails. Also has orange blossom and rose water (also both used for cocktails) I like this place and the guy is nice and sweet. read more

Outstanding!! Reviews were spot on. The gentleman behind the counter /cook was a very nice man. I tried several things, chicken and lamb shawarma's, gyro, falafel poppers and fries. I also tried the sauces which they added for free. Food was fantastic. The fries are a must to try, you will like. This spot has FLAVOR. No dining, small table or 2, but a nice store selling a variety of things I have never seen. Nice clean small businesses. Will return for more of the menu. read more

This place is a hidden gem! The owner is the one who took care of my order and he was the sweetest man! He recommended the lamb schwarma and the falafel. And they were incredible!! Seriously the best Mediterranean food I've had! I really appreciated that the owner explained that he makes all of the food to order and nothing it "ready to eat" because he wants to provide the freshest, best food to his customers. Came in for lunch on a Tuesday. This place is a one man show, so prepare to wait. Not a big deal, as I was in no hurry. Ordered a chicken shwarma and small hummus. Took about 20 minutes to prepare. Not shabby. Shwarma was huge, and tasty. Not the best I've ever had, but good nonetheless. The hummus was creamy, but not smooth. And, it was missing something, but not sure what. Like the shwarma, it was good, but not great. No seating in the store, but a courtyard outside with picnic tables provided a great place to wait and enjoy my lunch. This place is close to the soft serve that we typically get in the summer. I am not sure what to get here but the wraps were decent. We did come close to the end of the day (near closing) and they were fast to get me my wrap. This is also a small grocery store/convenience store for Persian items so there are deserts and all sorts of other things to pick and choose from. I haven't had falafel this good since I was in Palestine!! The food was very fresh and flavorful. We had the chicken platter with rice and hummus and it was simply to die for. Stopped by Jasmine late in the afternoon and was greeted by the friendly owner. He recommended the lamb shawarma, so we got that along with chicken shawarma, tabboule, and hummus. The food was all excellent - I can't think of any ways to improve! I especially loved the lamb and the spice blend used for it. The owner also gave us a complimentary dessert, which was very much appreciated and very good. In addition to the excellent food, the restaurant is very cozy and clean with a nice selection of Middle Eastern products. Delicious food and freshly made. It's one of my neighborhood favorites. The hummus and falafel poppers are a must try.

I regularly drive to and from Washington D.C., and Pittsburgh. Jasmine is the best part of the journey and actually makes it a trip I look forward to. The chicken shawarma sandwich is delicious and easy to eat while driving. My family in both cities insist that I buy them shawarma too, so I call when I'm about 30 minutes from the restaurant and place the order (sometimes for as many as 10 shawarma). When I arrive, my shawarmas are ready, I do a bit of shopping in Jasmine's small market (love the tahini and cookies they sell) and then continue my trip. The shawarmas refrigerate and reheat well. I'm so glad I found this family-owned spot. It's so much better than eating at and financing the big chain takeouts (Starbucks, Chipolte, Panera) nearby. read more

This place is fabulous! Delicious carry out with a small store. If you think the store doesn't have "variety", keep in mind that it's not a mega mart. The joy of it is in finding things you may have not seen before. My husband and I have tried most things on the menu and have been thoroughly pleased by it all. The lentil soup was given to us once by owner. I didn't even know I liked lentil soup! It was delicious and curative... goodbye chicken noodle when I'm sick. Love this place! Swarma is delicious - we're not Arabic but really enjoy it, it's got some veggies and a really delicious dressing inside. Also we come here for groceries all the time. The frozen foods Colonel Kababz brand are in a league of their own - you can't get anything like this at Giant or Costco. The chicken is actually good quality and the flavors are amazing, even little kids love it. We resupply once a month, a life saver when you're busy. Nice new shopping area in Urbana but kind of hidden. This place is more like a bodega and seemed like it was recently opened. They had about three small tables to sit at so next time i will probably get something to go. I got the chicken shawarma and was a little disappointed. It was too much chicken and not enough lettuce, tomato, pickle. actually there were no tomatoes in mine which I'm very particular about. The chicken itself was tasty but not like traditional shawarma. It was more like pulled chicken. The bread was reallyyy good though. The shop had some good middle Eastern products but was limited. What a hidden little gem! We thought we were coming to more of a sit-down restaurant, but don't let that distract you from their delicious, affordable food.
