Great place for a quick haircut when I can't make it to my regular salon. These days, I have to book really far in advance at that salon due to intense popularity, so sometimes I need to get my haircut within a shorter timeframe. Athens is perfect for this purpose since they are a barbershop (not a full salon). I can't speak for every stylist here since I've only been seeing Farshad and Dino at this point, but I've had great results every time so far with them. Used to really like this place but now they've got a fancy new location around the corner and decided to pass the additional costs to me as a consumer. Not ideal. Won't be coming here again. The stylists are hit and miss. Most of them are average which reflected the good value price before. For $20 I'll be looking for an increase in skill. Was good while it lasted. This place is located in the Metrotown shopping center off of the Kingsway entrance. They offer cheap ($15) male haircuts at a reasonable quality. Note that this place only cuts men's hair. When I went, there was no wait. The only downside is that they do not have wifi. read more

I have been going to Athens for years now. Place is always packed so make sure you phone in for an appointment prior to heading to the mall. I always go see Lydia. I have never been disappointed. I got a cut at Athens jut yesterday and personally probably not coming back.. Whether it was because it was a late time doesn't mean for a fast and unappreciated haircut. I mean we're wearing this everyday at least I did not like my cut. I asked for a specific women to cut my hair so I gladly waited.. Until another older women stylist asked if she could cut my hair and I got exactly what I was assuming to get, a bad haircut and service Could be worked on This was at 7pm 2 hours before closing... Lena cuts my hair for over 2 years now and does a great job. One of the best barbers there, as well as Zoriana and Eddie. The price is really inexpensive, only $16.80 for a cut (tax included), so make sure you leave a big tip. They are open even on holidays, which makes it really convenient. If you're wondering, no appointment required, just show up and pick a barber. Note that sometimes the wait can be 30-45 minutes if you go during peak hours and you want a specific barber. But the mall has free WiFi, free parking, and a food court, so it's easy to get other things done while waiting. read more

Angela cut my sons hair and she was fabulous. My son was very nervous about getting a haircut, but when she started talking to him he calmed right down. He even climbed into the chair by himself with no fuss. She cut his hair fast and did a great job. She kept him at ease the whole time and he didn't cry (also a first) We will be going back to her, she was fantastic with my aspie son. read more

I've travelled all around the world and always try and stop for a quick cut at a local barber shop. I get a cut once every 2 weeks. Coming to Vancouver I had a difficult time finding a good barber that could do a proper fade and clean lines. Then I discovered Jalal at Athens. This man is hands down the best barber I have had anywhere. Not only can the man cut but he always has me laughing with his funny stories. He seems to only work weekends at Athens. These guys dont know how to cut hair. Showed them a picture of what I wanted. The stylist assured me that he can cut my hair like the picture. What came out was completely different, nothing like the picture I showed him. He was also extremely rough with my head. Slapping and pushing my head around while scrapping my scalp with the razor. I have never had such a rough haircut before. He actually made my head bleed. I now have several cuts on my head. read more

Decided to try this vendor again; as they had generally done a decent job of the hair cut part of the transaction. Had the same experience as before. Tried a different stylist this time; told him how I wanted the hair and beard done, told him no products on my hair and leave the eyebrows alone (they are normal looking for cripes sake! Not bushy, not long, just plain and normal). The guy did generally good on the hair, was going so fast that he poked my in the eye with the comb, had some scented product in this water sprayer and obviously did not listen to what I told him at the beginning because he headed straight to the eyebrows as soon as the cut was about 90% done. Hint Number 1: I told you not to touch them, Hint Number 2: I told you again not to touch them and Hint Number 3: I stopped you before you got your electric clippers on them and you acted `surprised`about that when I stopped you. This is an okay hair barber shop and don't go when it's busy because they will rush your cut. Some of the guys cutting the hair need eyeglasses because they can't seem to see the errors they're making. read more

Avoid Khalid, asked for a short combover fade and received a patch of hair in the middle with no fade. He didn't realize where my hairline was until later and by that time he shaved off an excess amount. All the other stylists there seemed more competent. read more

I have been a client for Athens for the past 20 years. The two best barbers I have had the pleasure of working with are Eddie and James. They both are incredible at doing the skin fade or any style you request. Both of their work is immaculate, very meticulous and consistent. I have referred many of my friends, family and colleagues and they all have had a world class experience like I have. I have also had the opportunity to have the owner cut my hair and he also did an incredible job. If you are looking for a long term barber or looking for advise on your hair I highly recommend Asking for Eddie or James to cut your hair. Trust me they won't disappoint. I am very particular of my hair but when I am in their chairs I can sit back and let them do their thing. They have never disappointed me and they Have always been on point. In addition, they have always exceeded my expectation. Ever since they started cutting my hair I receive nothing but compliments when I am out and about. The worst hair salon ever! They charged me $245 for the WORST hair cut and WORST colour/streaks I have ever had in my life. They do not stick to their "100% satisfaction guarantee" - in fact, the owner (who tried to "fix" what the previous hair butcher f - - - ed up) making a bad hair cut WORSE - on top of soaking up another 5 hours of MY time - and not refunding ANY of my money for the trauma of a hair-do they created! This place is terrible. When we first arrived here, my husband and son went to this salon, and had their hair cut by a lovely polish lady with red hair who did a GREAT job. Since then, we have been back twice. Sadly on both occasions the red-haired lady wasn't there and my husband had his hair cut by 2 separate guys. The first guy was all touchy-feely with my husband while cutting his hair (very much unwanted advances and totally inappropriate during a hair cut), and didn't really listen to what my husband asked for at all. The second guy cut my husband's hair yesterday- it was one of the worst cuts ever. The back of the neck wasn't cut straight, it was skewed. The hair throughout the sides and back wasn't cut at one length, it was all different lengths as though cut by a 5 year old. When my husband asked to have his hair cut shorter, the guy cut a bit of the front of his hair shorter and left the rest long. He was so upset with the cut, we had to go and find someone else at short notice to fix it- so we ended up spending twice as much. That guy should NOT be cutting anyone's hair.
