Worst trash service I have ever had at any house I've ever lived in. Cardboard that isn't broken down into tiny pieces? Won't take it. Trash that extends even a half inch beyond the sides of the bin? Confused in RH... I do my part by cleaning and separating my recyclables from the trash. This morning I saw the trash truck pick up the black trash can, dump it and then proceed to pick up the blue recyclable can and dump it in the same truck. It was not a mistake since What's up with that? I tried to ask Athens about it, but the CSR just hung up on me before I could finish asking my question. Load of garbage! Customers Beware! I ordered a 30-yard roll-off for some significant brush clearance on my property on September 26, 2023. Athens charged my card upfront for $718 for the delivery fee/pick-up and disposal/dump fee, with the understanding that based on the number of dumps or weight of the bin, I would either receive a credit or have an additional charge. I delayed the delivery until October 12th and had them pick up the bin on October 19, 2023. I called the following week to inquire about the final amount and was told that I would have to wait until billing at the beginning of November. On November 1, 2023 the invoice was generated and it noted that a $434 CREDIT was due to me for the deposit I had originally paid. I called Athens and inquired when to expect the credit and was told that it should process by beginning of December. I lost track of the pending credit (on me) but then started to look through my statements on February 21, 2024 and realized that they never issued the credit and that it was still showing on my Athens account. I called again, and the agent was helpful and informed me that the credit could take 5 days to post to my card. Effectively, Athens held onto my refund for nearly three months, and I am not sure they would have ever issued it had I not phoned again. I am certain that had I owed them that amount for 3 months, I would have been sent to collections. It's not a great way to treat your customers. read more

I manage a shopping center and we have used athens for over 20 years. Our account is paid on auto pay and is current. Yesterday, Athens Services took our dumpster away without notice. When I called they said they were busy and would haqve it back in, "15-20 minutes". That was yesterday. Trash is piling up. Athens does not answer phone calls. I love how easy it is to set up bulk pick up online. I've only used the service a couple times but they've been very thorough and prompt.

I can always depend on Athens for any waste service. Employees are friendly and helpful. Bulky item pick up service is the best.

Athens Services have been around for many years. Their service is always positive, they will make phone calls to inform you of holidays, a change in dates. They also send you a yearly schedule informing you of the holidays. They make it very easy to pay your bill by calling them direct, or going through a website. If you need replacement trash containers the are fast at replacing with one simple phone call. If you need bulky items picked up extra, they are fast at doing that as well. I would recommend them without a doubt. read more

I've been so disappointed with this company. They arrive and empty the dumpster directly outside our apartment window around 615am every Saturday morning. As a healthcare provider who is scheduled to work very long hours, knowing I will be jarringly woken up each Saturday (which will sometimes be my only day off each week), is very frustrating. Not only did customer service not return my call/voicemail, but they have completely ignored this issue (after talking with someone in detail online)--and continue to show up every Saturday morning at 615am. When friends and family have stayed at my apartment, they are appalled that this level of noise can go on this early in the morning, on a Saturday no less. read more

Their commercial trash bin was left in front of my house with flies and maggots all over it. The placement of the bin was in front of our gate which is a few steps away from our front door. The flies get into our house as we open it which is unsanitary and irritating to have in the house when we're eating. We had already complained once and we had to complain again. read more

Until this week, I would have given Athens a great rating. Unfortunately my experience this week when Athens totally failed to pick up a scheduled extra trash pickup has caused me to reassess that rating. Athens assured me the pickup would be Wednesday, when I called Wed morning to confirm Wed pickup. Wednesday 6 pm the bags were still there. I phoned Thursday morning and was assured the delay was because of the Monday holiday and the pickup would occur without fail that day. No pickup Thursday. Telephone call to Athens Friday and was assured the trash would be gone by end of day without fail. WRONG! Trash was still there Saturday morning. Every day for 4 days I spoke to Athens and they assumed me the promised pick up would be that day. Finally the bags were picked up Saturday after a very annoyed phone call with a supervisor. Would the trash ever have been picked up without daily phone calls? I doubt it. Very nice customer service staff who apologized profusely in all 4 phone calls, but didn't solve the problem. read more

I will spread the word of how utterly despicable this company is EVERY chance I get. Beware you will end up paying for the month that you don't utilize the service. I bought new home back in Oct 2019 but I don't plan to move in till April 2020. I called today to start the service and I was told I will be charged from Oct 2019. This is ridiculous. You will be asked to pay for the service you don't even use. They determine the start date so beware how to answer. You can simply cancel Gas and reactive so that you will get new start date and provide them. Then you will get later start date. Plus the customer service think/believes that they rule the world since it is in monopoly market. Lastly, don't answer more questions from them so that they can trick you to bring all the way back to active your services... My first time paying the money for the service I don't use. read more

This is my trash service in West Covina. I barely had the lid open on my green trash can with all the storms we have had, I had to cut up a tree branch. The guy got out of his truck looked at the can and drove away. Unbelievable how lazy people have gotten these days. When I lived in San dimas we had waste management and you could practically put twice the amount of trash with the lid 100% open and they would still pick it up. read more

This company is a terrible excuse of a disposal company. We have a commercial center where we were paying $460 a month for the trash to be picked up every other day. No due to the monopoly they have with the city of L.A they increased our rate to $1,200 per month for the same service. They charge for overage whenever they want without ever sending any pictures and threaten to cancel your service if you don't pay their demands. Once they stop service they do not credit you for service that was not provided and then again charge you for trash overfilled since the bins were not picked up due to service interruption. Called the city of LA department of Sanitation however they never reach back to us. I guess the bonus they got or the donation they received makes all of these overcharging the customers go away magically. read more

Athens Services violates LA city ordinances by emptying dumpsters in residential areas (Less then 200ft from residents) before 6am. We live in the 6800 block of Melrose ave area and most of the residents in the area have tried to get them to stop waking us up before 6am for a while. The drivers ignore you. I haven't been able to reach anyone to get them to alter their route to arrive after 6am. I wonder I'll get a response here so this situation doesn't need to escalate to the entire block of residents filing complaints with the city. read more

I am forced by the City of Los Angeles to use the colossally incompetent Athens Services for a fourplex property. The DWP has been working on the sewer in this neighborhood and Athens, without any notification began not picking up our bin. After calls they agreed to pick it up on Saturdays when the DWP was not working They performed this service once but failed to do a second time leaving an overflowing, filthy bin. When I called them they asked me, " When will the DWP be finished with the work?" (!!!!!!!!) I explained that I do not live at this location and have not been informed by DWP and I'm not sure the DWP even knows when it will complete its work. In casual conversation with the DWP workers I understood the work was completed at my end of the street. When I checked last week I observed the DWP was no longer working in that portion of the block. There was however a single cone with a sign blocking access. An enterprising driver, excuse me, a non-comatose driver, would find a way to either bring out the bin, communicate with DWP workers or move the orange cone. Wouldn't a decently, responsibly run business take it upon themselves to be apprised and in communication with the DWP and the City? How about showing up before the DWP begins work? It took human kind 10,000 years to figure out that it was better to throw the spear at the mastodon or saber tooth tiger as opposed to standing there moving the spear in and out of an enraged animal. How many millenniums will it take Athens to figure out how to empty the trash? read more

What a racket! You ask for an extra pick up and they don't show! They then lie to you about the extra pick-up when you can contradict them with video footage. You then ask the Company to provide you with a recycling bin and it takes days to process a simple request and they provide inaccurate estimates. I am the HOA Vice President of an 8 unit building in West Hollywood. I have been extremely patient with Athens and have had my HOA management company reach out to them on several occasions over the past 6 months about a few issues in addition to talking to the technician directly when he makes his round on Tuesday morning. 1) Even when BOTH large trash bins are full, he only takes out one, and he doesn't empty it out completely, so garbage that's been sitting for weeks stays in the trash can. No wonder we have had pest problems. I've also asked him to start CLOSING the lids before putting the trash cans back in the trash receptacle area because it's impossible to close them once they are inside (ceiling too short) to keep rodents and flies out, since we do get fly infestations. He began to close one, but not the other. He just doesn't care, and we take pride in our building and ownership of it. 2) I have asked to have both bins replaced as they are 10 years old + and have stains, gouges and are overall in bad condition. No response. The City of West Hollywood needs to evaluate its contract with Athens and look for other companies whom offer better customer service. read more

Horrible. They take advantage of the fact that they are the only service provider to their customers, by giving awful service. I requested to have my old trashcans removed, and on a Monday Athens said this would happen on a Tuesday. Come Wednesday... I called to tell them they didn't pick them up. They said the note in the system said they came by but the cans were not left out for them... LIE #1. Then, they were supposed to come out on Wednesday, "by 6PM." Come Thursday morning, trash cans are still out. I call and they said that they came by again, but once again, the cans weren't not left out for them... LIE #2. My trashcans have been on my curb for 4 days and they said they can't come by until "tomorrow." BAD SERVICE. Not to mention they also told me I have been paying too little for the size can I have this whole year we've been with them.
